    Shiso sorbet

Great but pricey Japanese dinner in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle! Our favorites were the black cod (one of the best in Seattle) and the huge portion of hamachi kama broiled and seasoned to perfection. Chirashi had a good variety of fish but the flavors were a bit muted and for $42 I expected more special ingredients like tobiko or ikura or amaebi, or even just more than one slice of hamachi. Miso soup was very good, I enjoyed the strong bonito flavor. The shiso sorbet was refreshing if you like that flavor, and the matcha ice cream could have been more bitter. Ambiance is great and service is fantastic, I really appreciate them taking care of our large group with professionalism and pro-activeness. Parking lot is tiny so be prepared to park on the streets.

I've been a long time fan of Nishino! Located near the Arboretum in Madison Valley, and unless you're specifically looking for it, you may just miss this gem of a Sushi restaurant. The first few times I came through in the '90s, I had their Chawanmushi, and I'm so glad they kept it on the menu, it is a staple order for me every time! Although Sushi is what most people come here for, I actually love their other dishes, like the Miso Black Cod. I usually take a look at their specials because they feature items that are in season and fresh. Not too long ago Nishino featured a 4-course meal for $40 on select weekdays. It included a soup, appetizer, entree and dessert! A total bargain and it brought us back! Just follow their IG page for specials like this!

Pretty loud and service can be slow when the place is packed and the day that I went, there was no air conditioning. They just had oscillating fans running. I didn't see any Japanese people other than the chefs working so that could explain the standards. The food was perfect and filling without being too much although the prices are very high for what you can get in different part of town overall very good for quality Japanese food on this side of the hill.

Sushi was fantastic. Sashimi chefs choice was really good, but be prepared for sticker shock. Yellowtail hamachi was literally so good. Highly recommend. Tempura oysters were not great. The tempura was too light to make the dish balanced- the oysters kept falling apart with the fry. Ambiance is definitely higher end- a great special occasion area (~100/person with apps drinks and sushi) Service was great too.

A friend of ours recommended we try Nishino on our trip to Seattle and it was one of the best recommendations we've ever gotten! It's an unassuming somewhat hole in the wall restaurant, but the food was absolutely incredible. As soon as we arrived, we were seated promptly by smiling, friendly staff. The dining room was very clean, and decorated simply but beautifully. The ordering style is à la cart, where you actually right what quantity of which item you want on the menu. It was fun! To start off we got the shrimp dumplings, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We then got salmon tartare on crispy rice, which was literally probably the best thing my husband and I had on our entire trip in Seattle. It was so good! We then tried a few pieces of sushi (salmon and Hamachi) which were both delicious. We also had the black cod with miso, which had a perfectly buttery composition and flavored deliciously. We also had udon noodles with chicken, which war by far the best udon noodles I have ever had in my life. Lastly, we had the banana tempura for dessert, which is always a hit!

What an outstanding meal! Delicate flavors, beautifully prepared, and the service was outstanding. We tried some things we had never had before, and they were delicious. Tempura parsley and sweet onions, so delicate, and tasty. Who would have thought? The miso glazed, black cod was delicious, as were the pickles that came with it: lotus root, and mushroom with ginger. We also would highly recommend the albacore tartare with taro chips. For dessert, we had the shiso sorbet. The flavor was delicious, although the texture was more like chunky shave ice, not as smooth as I would have expected for a sorbet. One more really nice thing about this restaurant space: it is not noisy. One can have a thoughtful conversation, and not hear other conversations nearby. And there is no mood music to interfere. Highly recommend.

Nishino is a solid sushi restaurant in Madison Park area, but nothing compelling to return to. The ambiance reminded me of an older cruise ship style - muted tones, white linen table cloths, basic nonthreatening appearance. Any restaurant could be here. They had a small white board with specials written on it that they brought table to table. Felt a bit weird. My friend and I were the first customers of the night and they sat us against the wall. Not a problem. I noticed the table density was tight - it wasn't possible for the waiter to turn around between our table and the table next to ours without stepping out and then stepping back in. I thought no biggie, I bet this place will not be full by the time we leave so no worries. The next party of two they sat at this closest table. Not to either table against the same wall as the table we were against - despite that they were at a much more comfortable distance away and the one never was occupied while we were there. Nope, they sat this party of two right beside us and I felt like we were part of their conversation. I learned more about these strangers than I think they'd be comfortable with. Now Nishino isn't a basic sushi restaurant. They marinate their fish. They are quite heavy handed with their vinegar. I didn't mind it, but it was certainly noticeable. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll along with a variety of nigiri. The nigiri was solid. The shrimp tempura roll was more cucumber bits and rice than it was shrimp. I don't need a wide roll - I am fine with a narrow roll that tastes like the primary item versus being drowned by the others. The multitude of cucumber slivers also didn't hold up. They'd fall out of the roll the instant the seaweed wrapper was broken. The waitstaff was delightful. Very polite, very prompt. They are the reason I'm giving this three stars versus two. It's a solid restaurant but in a city with no end to sushi restaurants I can't see a reason to return.

Absolutely amazing food, great service and simple clean decor at this Seattle gem. You cannot go wrong with their food and its quality. Pretty much every dish is authentic and served like it should be. Japanese food is an art form and yes there are the 'Nobu' of the world but Nishino excels in its culinary presentation across all its range of food presentations. Love it!

    Shrimp dumplings. Delicious!

Finally had dinner here, year after moving to the area. I wish I had not waited so long. We are outside, and it was raining hard that night. We stayed dry in the cute tent they had set up, which was romantic. There was a space heater on our legs, and we kept our jackets on. We enjoyed sushi, miso and vegetable tempura. He had the spicy mushroom soup which was delicious and definitely worth ordering. The dungeness crab dish (crab and mushrooms baked in a spicy creamy sauce) was a dish we were divided on... he liked it, I did not. It was too creamy for my taste. The shrimp dumplings were been my favorite dish. Service was great! I look forward to eating here again!

Covered and heated outdoor dining space

Nishino, located in the picturesque Madison Park neighborhood, serves authentic and fresh sushi and small Japanese plates! They have a spacious, heated, and covered outdoor dining area for a safe and warm outdoor dining experience. 1) Service (+): Our server was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We walked in on a Saturday evening and were able to get seated right away as the restaurant was empty. 2) Ambience (+): I love the cozy and brightly lit atmosphere that the restaurant was even able to replicate outdoors! The restaurant had good COVID safety protocols with the server wearing masks and gloves the whole time. All menu's are one-time use. 3) Food (+): We really wanted to do the $80 Omakase, which featured an assortment of small plates, sashimi, and dessert but were a bit disappointed to learn it was not available that day (I'm guessing this was due to the low demand volume). Instead, we ordered several rolls, which were all delicious and fresh, along with miso soup, shrimp and vegetable tempura, chicken skewers, and the calamari. It's quite difficult to find decently price and authentic Japanese food in Seattle so I was quite impressed by the quality at Nishino! 4) Alcohol/Drinks (+): There is a large selection of sake and cocktails here. As a big fan of gin, I had the gin and sake martini, which was light and refreshing. It came garnished with cucumbers and ginger for a zingy twist. 5) Value for Money (-): The prices for rolls are great here for the quality ($8-$13/roll), but dishes like the tempura ($24) and calamari ($16.50) are priced a bit steep.

    Ask the Community - Nishino

    Do we need reservations?

It's a good idea, and is required for the omakase.

How many courses is the omakase and how many pieces of nigiri are included in that?

They don't offer omakase anymore. Instead, it comes in the form of "chef's choice sashimi platter": you can tell them what you like or your budget, and the chef will choose and serve you the cuts of fish all at once.

Anyone know if it's air conditioned? A fairly new seattle problem.

You would be comfortable there, last time I checked...ac was working. That problem is everywhere atm.

She was attentive, made sure waters stayed full, checked on us often and just made the whole experience feel easy. She pointed me toward the fish and chips and I am so glad she did because they were delicious. My fries were actually hot, which feels rare these days, and the fish was fresh. Both things matter more than people realize. I also had a wedge salad with mixed greens and what I believe were pears mixed in, and it was really, really good. My stepmom got a hamburger and fries and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. To finish things off I had a nonalcoholic mojito mocktail and it hit the spot. It is nice seeing more places offer solid mocktail options these days. Overall the food was great, the service was even better, and the view did not hurt either. They also give you a little coffee or tea to go as you walk home which is nice, and the cups are pretty cute. One thing to note, is we had the non-alchoholic drink pairing, and thought it would be more like cocktails without alcohol. I would suggest you look more at what it actually entails via the drink menu before you have it. It's a lot of fermented items, so if you don't like kambucha then I would suggest getting something else.
