If you are a local to the walnut area you will know about Ninja Sushi. Growing up in the neighborhood it has always been a favorite of mine. From awesome service from the staff to fresh sashimi you will not be disappointed. Ninja is a small sushi restaurant that is always busy with dine in customers and to go orders. I only have a picture of their supreme chirashi bowl because it's what I usually get but everything there is amazing! They have a great lunch box special (highly recommend getting the beef with sashimi). And I usually always get the doctors roll with ginger and onion as well. everything here was soooo tasty and the servers are so nice/attentive. my friend and i personally LOVED the fatty salmon 1000/10 this place is a local hidden gem and my bf told me that the sushi here is outstanding. the cut of the fish is so buttery soft and not fishy at all! i tried lots of new flavors and textures with the assortment platter and enjoyed the ono, aka white tuna! it has an interesting spongey texture, yet soft. the poki roll was also a new one we tried and it was good! nothing fancy, but the chili sauce they mix with your choice of tuna, salmon, or yellowtail for the roll is so good. their spicy tuna roll is top tier though, always my fave this place is definitely more traditional with less complicated rolls and sauces, but it's so good every single time and the servers always treat us well. it does tend to get busy during dinner hours and seeing as they are a smaller restaurant, there will be a wait, but it's what comes with good food :) read more

This place was recommended by a Costco worker. Glad we took him up on his recommendation. My wife and I loved this little spot. The waitress made us feel welcome even though our kids were louder than the TV's they had. Not to mention the food was tasty. The sushi was fresh and quick, we waited less than 10 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered. We can't wait to go back and enjoy more rolls. We will be rollin' in soon again read more

It is a small mom & pop sushi spot that doesn't stand out much. It's located in a large plaza, so there was no issue finding parking. I ordered the salmon handroll & deluxe chirashi. I ordered the deluxe chirashi since I would get uni, sweet shrimp and a few other different types of fish. They normally serve it with Toro, but that night they did not have toro and it was substituted with something else. I'm not quite sure what it was substituted with, since there was just so much going on. I was a little disappointed that the deluxe chirashi did not have ikura (salmon eggs) as the regular chirashi did (the couple next to me ordered the regular chirashi), nonetheless the amount of fish given is more than normal. This is the first place where I have experienced serve surf clam, clam, and a poke variety of fish in their chirashi. I don't suggest ordering the deluxe chirashi unless you really want uni or fried sweet shrimp head (one of my favorite things to munch on) but even then I think you're better off ordering the sushi ala carte. The salmon handroll was really good, it was definitely over stuffed. I did not mind though. I will be coming back to try their ankimo, and more sushi ala carte. read more

This is a very old school Japanese restaurant. It may not have some things very fancy or creative, but they provide you a quality traditional Japanese food. Ive in love of this place since i was a student in mt sac and cpp that talking about almost ten years ago. their lunch deal is always unbeatable and dinner is reasonable price with good quality food. You can feel their sincerity by the tea that they serve you, it is a really nice cup of sencha. In ninja, my personal favor are the sashimi deluxe and the teriyaki beef. The sashimi in sashimi deluxe are fresh and quality, specially the toro and Japanese sweet shrimp and the teriyaki beef is grilled by medium rare that makes the beef juicy and chewy but still soft. of course, their teriyaki beef and don tonkatsu also are amazing. So I thought I would pop into this place because it had some good reviews and have a little bit of sushi I ordered the spicy salmon roll Salmon skin roll and a few pieces of sushi the quality was just okay nothing to write home about. But halfway through my spicy salmon roll I bite into something hard come to find out it was a thumbtack yes a clear sharp pointy thumbs tack I'm very lucky I did not fully bite into it which I almost did. The staff was very apologetic and almost in disbelief as was I they did not charge me for the role offered me a free drink but really there was nothing that can make up for finding a thumbtack in your sushi roll. How it got there who knows how often they put thumbtacks in their food I doubt often but still could have been worse maybe think twice hopefully they do some better quality checks. A hole in the wall restaurant next to Vons with authentic nigiri. Their amaebi (sweet shrimp) and ika (squid) nigiri are my favorites! They will ask how you'd like the shrimp head cooked - fried or in miso soup, I like the latter. Both nigiris are very fresh and live up to the price. I've also gotten crunchy roll, unagi don, and chicken katsu don with egg before, all are solid but can't compare with the nigiris. The quality of the sashimi is top tier. It is a small restaurant with very limited seating, and going on a weekday led to no wait! I especially loved the sweet shrimp and salmon. Wow, SOOOOO GOOD!!! I'm not sure if it was just timing yesterday, but their fish was the freshest I've ever had. They had what appeared to be like 50 to-go orders, so maybe I hit the jackpot because the fish tasted like it was freshly cut. The tuna and yellowtail were so tasty. It hit the spot but I seriously want to go back for seconds and thirds! I'm sad that they aren't in North OC because there's not many good options with most being Korean supplied ACYE types with really poor quality fish. There is only Oshima and the wait can be horrible and it gets really expensive. For $14 at Ninja, you can get 10 thick cut sashimi pieces and another side. Anywhere in the OC would cost you $20+, even poke bowls are $15... all of which aren't as fresh. Ninja is legitimately Japanese run by the same workers for like 20 years! read more

There isn't many choice in Walnut for Sushi. That is where Ninja Sushi comes in to fill the void. The service and food is good. Especially the price is more reasonable then another places. If you are a picky eater, don't eat here as this place is mostly family oriented restaurant without the glamour and jazz if that is your thing. So expect solid food that are good but not great at Ninja Sushi. The tempura is delicious. Now you know where to go for Japanese food in Walnut.
