i love NINJA sushi :) it is absolutely wonderful I feel like i pay less for the food i get, which is...... absolutely wonderful because it is hard to find a sushi place that you feel like your money is worth it. Try their Chirashi, you can see how generous they are with their food and their sashimi they put on top. Their rice on the bottom of the Chirashi is heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone like raw spicy scallop? Because that is my favorite among with UNI. Guess what, their UNI and their RAW spicy scallop are both so good, you can't stop ordering them or stop getting addicted to it, It is so amazing! This place has wonderful wonderful quality and quantity of food, Their staffs are great also but it is so busy you barely get to talk to them. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 stars is because I've had better sushi, but that's not to say this one didn't taste great. I think the roll that I liked was the H&D roll due to the sauce. My friend and I didn't want to go to a chain restaurant and didn't want a big place so we made our other friend decide and that's how we ended up there. The price was the same compared to other sushi places. The spanish mackeral was awesome though, got to be one of the freshest I've ever had. However, if you plan on going and want a table it'll take you awhile unless you have a reservation. We didn't, therefore we sat at the sushi bar. **update** So apparently some of their rolls are nasty according to a friend, such as the mel roll. Guess it really depends on what you order. This place is all right for a quick lunch if you don't care too much about trying new items or wanting to have a memorable meal. I come here without expecting much, but it works out in the end. This place has your typical sushi and combo meals. There's really nothing to rave about except the presentation looks great and fish tastes good. However I didn't particularly enjoy the teriyaki beef, because it was thin, dry, and too chewy. The waitress served us promptly almost in a hurried manner. We've gotten takeout from here at least three times now during the pandemic and every time very impressed. Their sushi is excellent with good portion sizes. Their chicken teriyaki is by far the best I've had at any Japanese restaurant, and I've had a LOT of dry chicken teriyaki at other places. The fish is always fresh, my favorites are the Spicy HAB handroll, spicy seafood handroll, fatty tuna(it's like butter), the meatloaf (I know kinda weird but really good, it's not like American meatloaf), and the fresh oysters, I normally don't care too much for fresh oysters but these are really good, and last but not least the shrimp boat. Was in Walnut and feeling like Sushi so I saw this place on Yelp and decide to give it a try. Pros- The food was pretty good. I ordered a few of the specialty rolls. Not as much selection of specialty rolls as other places but a pretty decent list. Cons- No "All you can Eat" option. The service really need some help. They have 2 servers trying to take care of the 12 tables. Acting as the greeters, waitress as well as bus boy. That is the biggest downside of this little sushi place. Happy Eating !!! read more

Took a friend here and ate at the sushi bar. The fish is very fresh and amazing and we both loved it. I ordered yellowtail, tuna sashimi, eel to name a few and it will not disappoint. If you want good fresh fish this is the place to go in the West Covina/Walnut area. I would have given 5 stars because the sushi/sashimi is just that, however, the service sucked. The chefs were great but the two waitresses that were there were very rude and just not nice. I still recommend this place though. Will go back and maybe service will be better lol then I can give a better overall rating. read more

I Heart Ninja for the food and everyone on staffs!!! Been coming here for the past 4yrs whenever I have my sushi crave so that means about 2-3x/month. I never EVER ate anything not fresh from Ninja, so I dont know what the other reviewer is talking about. I know they're always fresh cuz I never got irritation around my lips like the way I do whenever I ate some not-fresh sushi/sashimi from other sushi places. Great portion for an excellent price and the crew are so friendly~! It is owned and operated by all Japanese so u know they're not americanize type of sushi. Premium chirashi bowl is a must try! They give you a huge, huge serving of sashimi and the rice to sashimi ratio is perfect! I usually hate when restaurants skimp on sashimi by giving you a bunch of white rice but this place does not do that at all! had take out here a few times, not the greatest but they have some decent items. I like their katsu donbori, which is a popular pork cutlet on rice dish with an egg and japanese gravy type sauce. I've had this dish a few times here and decided to try their beef donbori to mix it up. I expected a similar dish with beef, I think most people would. What i got was a small portion of rice topped with a VERY small portion of teriyaki beef. I was VERY disappointed and asked the waitress why the beef donbori is so different from the katsu donbor, is there something missing? She tells me no, thats how it is. Well if thats the case I wanted it replaced with something like the katsu donbori. The waitress tells me no but you'll know next time. If you look at the picture of the beef donbori i posted on here you will understand why I was SO MAD. and no i did not eat any of it before taking the picture. oh and fyi the beef donbori is more expensive than the katsu donbori. read more

How could an experience be so different within 2 weeks of visit? I've been back to Ninja for 3 times within 2 weeks. First time I ordered a chirashi bowl and it was really fresh and good portion, so I went back 2 more times. The second time I ordered sashimi lunch, but the size of each fish was much smaller and not filling after, so I was a little disappointed, but still has good impression of the restaurant. The 3rd time I ordered the chirashi again. Since it was really good at the first time, I was expecting the experience to be similar. However, the 3rd time was far from the first. The size of fish was significantly smaller and not as fresh. I was so puzzled while I was eating. Is this the same bowl that I had 2 weeks ago? Aside from my chirashi bowl, my wife's eel bowl also reduced in size. Did they change their management during this 2 weeks? I will still go back since my other experience a year ago was also really good, so hopefully my last bad experience was just an exception. It would be really sad if they can't keep their quality consistently. That will really keep a lot of customer away. read more

The most important factor when choosing a Japanese restaurant is that it be Japanese-owned and operated. Most are not. True sushi connoisseurs (not to be confused with cono-sewers), know that freshness, cleanliness and the pride of the craft are what make raw fish delectable. Ninja Sushi is a tiny restaurant in a sleepy neighborhood. There is nothing happening for miles around and 8pm on a Saturday night is about exciting as listening to the crickets chirping from the horse trails nearby. However if you are into excellent sushi prepared by real Japanese chefs, this is the place for you. Their prices are reasonable and in line with most full service Japanese restaurants. Service is ok but this is primarily an eating establishment and not a Yamashiro's or ocean-front veranda where you impress your dream date and pop the question. The fact that Ninja is always full shows that they are doing something right despite the less-than-glamorous location. It's a place where you come for really good, fresh sushi and not to be entertained, impress your date or the big nite out. Ninja is my family's local sushi restaurant. The beef curry udon is delicious. The shrimp tempura udon is delicious. The doctor roll. Halibut sushj (hirame). Their house green salad is a must. The only thing bad about this place is the service. The waitresses aren't friendly and give you attitude when you ask for something. This is my #1 choice place for Japanese cuisine and sushi in particular. It is Japanese owned and run, and it shows. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the floor is clean as well as the rest of the place, and the food is spot on. The fish is always top notch. My favorite thing to get here is probably the Philly hand roll. I also enjoy their Ika, as it's kinda hard to get really enjoyable Ika elsewhere. The Unagi is just right as well. I once left my special Snow Peak chopsticks there on accident, and they were kind enough to hold onto them and return them to me! read more

For sushi i generally hit up an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet to completely satisfy my sushi and sashimi cravings. however when a friend suddenly wants to go get japanese food, we looked on yelp for the closest and highest ranked sushi spot, ninja sushi popped up. my friend and i both got a sushi roll and sashimi. i do love raw fish and this place serves them fresh unlike some sushi buffets, our salmon and albacore sashimi were great. i forgot what my friend had but i ordered the caterpillar roll which had avocado and eel. it had a little too much sauce and not enough eel but it's still delicious. so if you're nearby, especially if you just finish class at mt sac or cal poly, swing by. i went on a Thursday around 5:30, no line no wait. service was excellent. the only thing I'd complain about is the price, probably because I'm used to having much more sushi for a little bit more money. read more

this is in the Von's plaza on the right hand side (when you are facing Von's). there is a big sign on top of the restaurant that says, "SUSHI". so you have to look closer to see "ninja" in the window. plenty of parking as it is in a plaza with Von's. i was surprised that this little restaurant in the strip mall actually had pretty good japanese food. their lunch combos are a deal at about $10. i had the sashimi, beef teriyaki, california roll combo (came with rice and miso soup). in the combo, sashimi: 3 pieces of tuna, 3 pieces of salmon, california roll: 6 pieces. =) their sashimi portions came out bigger than i expected. yellowtail collar was up to par...so was the monkfish that cousin ordered. flavors were delish. i guess they were a bit busy...but it seemed to take forever for my lunch combo to come out. the tables are close to each other...which brings me to my story of the annoying lady who blocked the small aisle. there was a lady who stood right behind us. she bumped into someone she knew and started chatting. she didn't care about her family who were waiting for her to sit down at the table so that they could actually order. the reason i bring her up is that SHE WAS GETTING IN THE WAY OF THE SERVERS and very close to us. her husband kept waving to their friend goodbye to signal that they should leave so that she could sit down. hate people like that. she kept yapping. "lady...if they were your good friends, you could just catch up later.." maybe those people tried to avoid her until they were forced to be in the same room.. okay back to ninja sushi review...glad there was a good quality sushi/japanese food place. =) read more

The sauce that they used with the Sherry roll does not go well together. But the albacore and sear tuna on top was pretty good though. The sauce is an area of opportunity for them. If you are looking for a nice lunch for a good price, go for the combo A Chicken. It comes with sashimi, teriyaki chicken, salad, soup, rice, for $6.99. Yeah, can't beat that huh. Other than that, the weekly special is usually pretty good deal just a bit more expensive(say around $8.95). I come here regularly(around once a week) and the quality is very consistent, the staff is always very nice, and I don't recall having to wait at all. But I have only been here during lunch so can't comment on dinner. read more

First time here. It's a tiny restaurant in the Vons strip mall. You'll see the sign "SUSHI" in huge letters, and "Ninja" in small letters. (Funny). We got there a little after they opened and it was already half full. By noon, the restaurant was full. They only had seats at the bar. I also kept hearing the guy taking phone orders. Busy restaurant. Good sign. The menu itself is not huge, but they got their bases covered with the usual fare. Since my daughter and I don't eat much, we usually share an entree. And because there is not a wide variety of things she'll eat, we shared the beef teriyaki lunch special (boring, right?). The beef teriyaki was good. The beef was juicy and tender. There was too much sauce on it, and the sauce was a bit too sweet and salty. Maybe next time, I'll ask for it on the side. The tempura was perfect. Not too much batter, not too oily, perfect crunch. My husband had the pork cutlet shashimi. Both were excellent. The fish was fresh and plump. Although the restaurant was hopping and it looks like there was only one waitress, she did a super job in catering to everyone. We'll be back. read more

Came here several times since it's very close to my house. Honestly got hyped up from all the reviews but did not meet my expectations at all. The service was honestly kind of slow. The majority of people there were usually locals every time I went so I don't think they really minded but I had to always ask for more water myself and they never really came by to check if everything was okay. The food was pretty average. Not amazing but not horrible quality either. I've had better sashimi and I've had worse. The pricing was pretty ridiculous though. I've been to quite a few sushi joints and I have to say the quality of food they have definitely does not match the prices they put on their menus. They honestly could have dropped a couple dollars per item and I still would have thought it was too pricey for the food they had. The place is surprisingly quite busy whenever I went. Like I said, it's usually locals and it does get quite loud on some evenings when there's a usual group of old men that are drinking off in the back table. I've seen them more than once when I've been there and each time they get a little noisy. The decor is pretty average sushi restaurant styled. The typical wooden fences with the occasional Japanese art or pottery. It seemed clean enough but it's very clustered and small. Almost to the point of it making me feel sort of claustrophobic. But it was surprisingly very clean there and everything was well kept. Only downside would be the space. Overall the place was pretty average. I'd go if I was desperate for sushi and I didn't have the time to go out to anywhere better but besides that, I definitely wouldn't pick this place as my go-to sushi restaurant. read more

You don't come here for the ambience or a place to impress a date/client you come here to fill your belly on a casual dinner out with the Misses.
