Spicy Tuna Roll & Dragon Roll
    Danielle E.

Great hole in the wall sushi place. The spicy tuna roll & crunch roll were very good. My fiancé enjoyed his dragon roll. Service was fantastic. For the 3 rolls it was around $53. A little on the pricier side, but the quality of the fish was great. Definitely will be back!

I love this little spot. Always full of life. It's grown on me over time. They put out weekly specials worth trying, and the sushi is fresh. Service is decent, simple, and feels family-style. The flavors here are lighter than many other places, but that's what makes it memorable. Not heavy, not overwhelming--just clean and honest. They offer all the staples: bento combos, udon, donburi. Nothing fancy, but everything steady. For a small old town like Walnut, it's a gem. #LocalFind #JapaneseInWalnut #SimpleAndGood

It's been a long time since we come here. Older ladies were friendly to serve us. I have the eel bento. My daughter had the miso sauce with cod. Food was delicious. The cod in decoration. was so tender like jello. A bit too salty. But overall it's delicious. This place probably could use some update in decoration but it's still such a hidden gem.

Came on a Saturday night and there were still some seats left. A bit small, but homey. The sushi and rolls were fresh and delicious. Wait staff were attentive and friendly. Recommend you trying this place out!

We dined here on April 20, and unfortunately I had a very bad experience after eating the tiramisu yaki. About two hours after the meal, I started having diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and felt very sick for two days. I usually order this dish and they normally only serve one piece, but this time they gave me two pieces. While eating it, I noticed the taste seemed a little different, but I did not think too much about it at the time. After getting food poisoning symptoms, I honestly believe the fish may not have been fresh and they did not want to waste it. I just want other customers to be careful when ordering this item.

This is our go-to local sushi spot. It's a small place, but it's always packed -- for a good reason. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and the Japanese side dishes are very authentic. You can really tell they care about quality, not gimmicks. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get, which makes it an amazing value. If you're looking for great sushi without the hype or inflated prices, this place is a must try. Highly recommended!

Food (5/5): Been coming to this restaurant as a child. This is definitely a hole in the wall and gem located in Walnut. Their amazing quality and authentic Japanese food for their reasonable pricing cannot be beat, which is why my family is a patron here. They typically have unique weekly lunch and dinner specials. Love their wide variety of dishes ranging from rice, noodles, sushi, and etc. I appreciate how they offer either water or hot tea (free of charge). We tried their nijyu roll for the first time, which includes toro, yellowtail, salmon, and blue crab wrapped in cucumber topped with a garlic/ponzu sauce. This was such a refreshing roll and for $21.25 and the quality fish you get, this was so worth it. Would definitely order again. Our other favorite is their Dreyer roll, but I noticed the amount of eel/unagi and avocado on top of the roll has decreased overtime unfortunately. I really enjoy their soba dishes. They offer both cold dipping soba or hot soba with soup, both including a side of tempura. Their hot soba includes fishcake. I appreciate how they are open every day of the week for both lunch and dinner now, with their last call for dinner being at 9 PM. They are even considering opening for breakfast! They are also open on Fridays-Saturday for afterhours (9:30 PM - 12 AM) and serve sushi, ramen, appetizers, and drinks. Service: (5/5) The servers are always very helpful and attentive. They always go out of their way to be as helpful as possible and ensure that you have an enjoyable dining experience by clearing plates whenever possible and refilling your tea/water often. They always make me feel right at home whenever I stop by for a visit. Ambiance: (5/5) There are a decent amount of tables inside, but can fill up quickly during rush hours. They had table and sushi bar seating inside the restaurant. They have renovated the interior since I started coming when I was a child to keep their fridge hidden by creating a server area before the hall to the restrooms. Their glass tabletops have menus underneath them, including their speciality rolls and contents, and also include diagrams to distinguish each of the different types of fish which is really convenient and helpful.

Ninja sushi is a small, hole in the wall sushi restaurant that really packs a punch. With homey and welcoming service, I knew I was in for a real treat. We shared a variety of rolls, and they were all delicious but the stand out for me was the spicy tuna roll. While it was the simplest roll we ordered, the flavors were nice and umami with the perfect amount of spice. We finished our delightful meal with the banana tempura dessert with vanilla ice cream. It was the true cherry on top for our meal, delivering a light sweetness to leave a smile on our faces.

Great service! The store feels home-y and the staff is very sweet. Our food came out fairly fast and tasted great! Would come back again

Great hole in a wall sushi place. Came on a weekday and tried their weekday special... it was amazing. Sushi is fresh, chicken teriyaki is cooked to perfection and the side dishes were all yummy. Will be coming back for sure.

Sashimi is great! Teriyaki chicken not so much. Portion sizes for the combo felt small but it was filling enough. Service was good though.

Mixed tempura. Perfectly cooked. Not greasy at all.

We had such a great experience. Great customer service, clean, and great food. Made to perfection! We will definitely be back!

Trying this place with my whole family on a Sunday. This place is like a small mom and pop restaurant and we got there right when they just opened and they were able to accommodate my family with 15 people. They were so nice and made sure we were good. We ordered about 12 of these plates and it was pretty good and filling! It came with a small miso soup too! This plate was about $36 which isn't bad at all! I'd come back to try other food there!

I feel like the service used to be a lot better and now there just seems to be more staff turnover, so whenever I come every few months, there are always new faces, with the exception of the two managers/supervisors. The food is good and sushi always tastes fresh. They use a fairly minimal amount of rice on the nigiri, which is a plus, so I can eat more of the fish...hahaha! One of their best things is the baked mussels and to date, they are still at the top of the list compared to all other sushi spots I've been to (and there have been A LOT). They are almost always busy, (unless you come during odd hours between lunch and dinner) so be prepared for a wait. And if you do come during the busy hours, it can get a bit noisy in here, but I don't mind this at all; it just means everyone is enjoying themselves, and I'm all for people being out and socializing. (Get outta the house and off those phones!) Overall, a reliably good sushi spot, if you don't mind 'just okay' service.

I was also confused about why they offer a regular menu if they're going to push everyone to do the all-you-can-eat option. I was fine doing all-you-can-eat for the adults, but I asked if I could order bento boxes for my kids and was told no, they also had to do all-you-can-eat. It just doesn't make sense or feel worth it for a 5-year-old who is barely going to eat enough to justify the price. Overall, the long wait and lack of flexibility made the experience disappointing.

BROILED SALMON & MIXED TEMPURA BENTO BOX: I ordered this to go and it came with a scoop of rice, 4 spicy tuna cut rolls (used to be 6), a small clump of salad, tempura (came without the tempura sauce), miso soup, and the saddest/hardest clump of fried/broiled salmon (came with side of teriyaki sauce). The portion has SIGNIFICANTLY shrunk especially for the salmon. The salmon was basically the size of the sauce dish container...I finished it in 2-3 bites. Due to this, I will sadly not be returning.

Dont miss it by pulling into the market plaza, but im sure you may park there. The place is small and not too busy when i visited. They offer a physical menu with limited selections, along with a QR code on the wall to scan that includes additional dishes. Before we even ordered, they quickly brought out complimentary salad, miso soup, and steamed edamame. What a nice surprise! Uni Rice Bowl was listed as market price but was very reasonably priced . It had about 4-5 pieces of uni, served in a very presentable sea urchin shell. It was light and very good. I can never pass up uni when it's on the menu! We also ordered some rolls, a variety of sushi , and toro sashimi. They do prepare sushi with a lot of rice, but I loved that they generously portion with large pieces of fish along with it. The fish was fresh and were great quality. Oh and free yummy green tea icecream to end our meal too!

The rolls are stuffed so big that they can barely fit in your mouth, the fish is incredibly fresh, and the variety is top notch. Some of our favorites include... the sunset, 4 corner, the crunch hand roll, the Cajun yellowtail, the samurai , and the salmon belly. Holy cow the 4 corner roll is our new favorite! What the heck the magical seared Cajun salmon literally melts in your mouth. And because it's Cajun it has those smoky flavors that mesh so well with the sauces. Our eyes were rolling to the back of our heads with this one. Sunset is our go to. Salmon outside and crab inside. Perfection and the bite size portions are huge! The crunch roll was ginormous!!! So good! I was craving a shrimp tempura roll but wanted the nori so this hit the spot. It had shrimp tempura, avocado, and an overflowing amount of crab! We loved the 4 corner roll so much, our server recommend the Cajun yellowtail nigiri.... Insane. The samurai was really good too. Shrimp tempura, crab, and avocado inside and spicy tuna and fried eel outside. The salmon belly was crazy good. I've never tasted salmon so soft and melty. Asha our server was so so amazing! She brought us the salmon belly on the house, she was patient, kind, attentive, and so friendly :) Please do not hesitate to come here when you are craving some good sushi, great service, and the best ambiance!!!! i dined here about a month or so ago. service was poor. i…read morewas served FROZEN toro. not at ALL worth the $14/piece pricing. it was so beyond disappointing. but the main point for my review: it seems that there are management issues in this restaurant. during my meal, an employee came in asking for their paycheck. i think the "argument" had something to do with the employee's earned tips as she was demanding to see tip calculations. in response, one of the chefs, i'm assuming the owner and manager of the place, was yelling and seemed to be making threats.. something about sending a lawyer to the employee's house. what was weird was that this was an open argument in the front of the restaurant. everyone, including me, was looking at the both of them. it seemed fishy to me. although i don't know the full situation, it looks really bad that the chef (manager/owner??) was yelling at their employee, to the point where she cried. whatever the situation is, making threats and yelling in public space isn't acceptable. must've been so humiliating and traumatizing for the employee. i didn't bother leaving a tip.. the service wasn't great either. the chef (most likely the owner) seems to be taking advantage of their employees. WILL NOT BE RETURNING. poor food quality and service, but on top of that, terrible management.
