To be honest, I have only been there a handful of times, but when you know, you know! Unfortunately, I missed the owner, Kathy, tonight, but every time I see her there she greets me with kind words and a hug. It makes me feel like a regular or even a long lost best friend! I probably visit this business about 3 times a year. Yet, every time I do I ask myself why don't I go here more often! On this visit, I was lucky enough to see one of the old bouncers, Daniel and met the new bouncer, Bobby. They were both very cordial and welcoming, while their wandering eyes and presence seemed to remind us patron's that our conduct was being monitored. Tonight, Danielle was behind the bar. She slayed it!!! It seemed like there was not an empty cup in the house (unless by choice). She was very attentive and efficient. It was as though each and every person in the bar was her most important customer! It was refreshing (much like the tasty drinks that she poured). This is not the first time I left Nu-Rays feeling this way, as Rose may be one of the best bartenders I have come across... always quick to welcome new arrivals with a friendly smile when the time allows, but when the sh*t hits the fan and the clients are circling the bar ready to pounce on a drink like a cheetah on an antelope.... Rose is all business passing out drinks like Rich Gannon to Tim Brown. Lara is another bartender that come to mind. I was very impressed with Lara. She was quick to answer questions with a recommendation for a drink that may change your life.... Or at least your mood for the night. In fact, I have been impressed with all of the bartenders that I have met there. I own a business in Martinez and have found myself at a couple of the drinking establishments in the area and none of them... and I mean none of them... can hold a candle to Nu-Rays! I've tried them all at one time or another and I must say Nu-Rays is top notch! I Love the old school down to earth feel... and you know what... after thinking about the cheers vibe.... I'm going to try and make them yell "COREY!!!" when I come in the bar. That my friend is what they call icing on the cake!

This cool and casual spot was perfect for spending time with family and friends after celebrating a birthday at a nearby venue.

It was so funny because we saw The Office storefront and thought it was a different place, so we went through the hallway from the back where the "secret" entrance was. You can choose to sit at the speakeasy-designed area where there are no windows, or there is another area where you can people-watch. It was surprisingly not as busy, but also it was only 8PM. Our bartender was so friendly and told us we should try the food, but we were too stuffed from our dinner. We decided just to have a quick drink and head out. I ordered a Strawberry Smash and the hubby got a Tropical Sunset. My drink was really delicious and huge. We only stayed for a drink because we were tired, but I would love to return when I'm back in the area.

That completely changed when we encountered Cece today. From the moment my sister-in-law and I walked in, there was no greeting, no engagement, and no hospitality. The very first thing Cece said to my sister-in-law was to tell her to remove her hoodie and glasses. I explained that her glasses were prescription transition lenses that change with lighting, Cece acknowledged the prescription but dismissed that explanation and claimed it was for "security." Within just a few minutes of us arriving, she was already treating us like a concern. The only clear difference between us and everyone else seated at the bar was our skin color. No other guests were questioned or scrutinized the way we were. The experience felt like blatant racial profiling, and it was incredibly uncomfortable and disappointing. We left and went to Nu-Rays on the next block, where the contrast was immediate, warm, welcoming, and respectful. When we mentioned what happened, the bartender and other local guests seating at the bar even commented that Cece is known for profiling guests, which made the experience even more upsetting. It's sad and unacceptable that behavior like this is tolerated. I sincerely hope ownership and management address this issue, because no customer should feel targeted or unwelcome based on the color of their skin.

This felt like a made up rule to protect non-mother customers, and Benicia is known for that. Horrible. What made it worse was how it was handled. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. I even tried calling afterward to speak with a manager, but no one answered. Overall, it left a really bad impression, and I don't feel comfortable coming back after this.

First off, respect for using thighs for the chicken. I feel like chicken breasts are doable but I feel like ultimately chicken thighs are the way to go for Orange Chicken. I really think that chicken breasts should just be reserved for something like Lemon Chicken. I also like that they give you a good amount of chicken too. A tiny more than I normally expect. Or at least thats how it felt. The flavor wasn't bad either but I the texture wasn't the best. Lots of the breading on the pieces were coming off easily which isn't the end of the world but it just felt like a single fried was used instead of a double fry for extra crispy. Not saying that happened but thats just what it felt like. It could have also been that it was sitting at the restaurant longer than usual. Im guessing it was the latter since I ordered DoorDash. I also ordered the Beef Chow Fun. It was fine but just overall found the sauce lacking. Same deal with the Potstickers. The texture was fine but flavor was just ok. I was really excited to try these too since it seemed like a favorite in town. But they were just ok imo. I honestly just felt like a lot of food just was rushed a little. The interesting thing though is this place also does sushi too so Im curious if their Japanese part of the menu maybe better than their Chinese side? Or Vise versa. Hard to say but I do want to try them again soon.
