I was here for a Yelp event and returned with my wife a week later. This place is great albeit on the pricy side. The staff is so welcoming and warm and the food is fresh and delicious. Almost everything is made in house including the chutneys which are delicious. The chai is the best I've ever had.

Nice ambience and tasty street food. Ordered a chat item and dessert item Togo and they were both really good.

Limited menu at the moment, but we are super excited for when they have a bigger dinner menu and especially brunch.

We would have been grateful enough for a warm restaurant and decent food, but I certainly didn't expect to find my favorite Indian food in New Jersey here (I know that's a big claim; it was just that good). Let's address the elephant in the room here: sometimes Indian food doesn't look camera-ready. For instance, my absolute favorite thing here was the chana palak, an extremely flavor-packed curry with chickpeas and spinach. What shows up (regretfully) as a greenish mud in pictures is actually an absolute flavor bomb in the mouth. Truly, I still have dreams about this dish. If looks matter to you, I also highly recommend the salmon tandoori special. It arrived on a sizzling platter (the kind that makes heads turn and eyes lock as it approaches the lucky table). There was more flavor to be had here, and I adore a dish that's hot enough to carry a blister risk while eating...especially in the middle of an icy snowstorm. Service was incredibly warm, welcoming, and efficient. Our server checked in with us the exact right number of times, and he repeatedly asked about whether we wanted to take leftovers home, the way a friend or kind auntie might after you've dined sumptuously at her table.

I prepared my buffet plate and sat at one of the unoccupied tables. Suddenly, after about 10-15 minutes, one of the servers approached me and started talking rudely while I was mid-way through my meal. He wanted to know who assigned me the seat and I should not be sitting there as it was a 'reserved' table to seat larger number of people and I should have waited at the entrance to get seated, even if the entire dining hall was nearly empty. He did not try to listen to me at all and kept on talking in a harsh tone. I felt really bad and uncomfortable. I paid the bill and walked out quite upset with the whole experience. I am a local resident of Plainsboro and have visited this restaurant many times in the past. However, due to the rude and unapologetic behavior of Lester, the server, I'm never going back to that restaurant again. I'm a Senior citizen and he had no respect for age, or sense to understand that I was occupying only 1 seat in the entire empty hall that could easily seat over a 100 people.

People were surprised that the food was from a restaurant (in past years I've catered from home cooks, and they just don't have the scale and professional service like Jhopri). All the trays were nicely stowed into a huge hot pack container so the food would stay warm until we use it. Best part is they do both south and North Indian food, so you can get both under one roof... both are equally good! HIGHLY recommend Jhopri catering for your next event!

They have a long list of unique dosa fillings including paneer, onion, eggs, Indian flavored lays chips, crushed samosas, and even meat fillings such as lamb, chicken, and beef and sweet fillings such as Nutella and strawberry jam. The items are prepared by the efficient staff known as "dosa jockeys" in an open kitchen with limited seating available. The dosas are delicious with golden crispy edges and tender warm filling. The canteen sandwiches are particularly unique and delicious consisting of three slices of bread with one in the middle toasted with melted chili cheese, shallots, and cheddar. It takes 25 minutes to prepare. The gentleman at the counter who received us was kind enough to bring over a cake with a candle, as it was my birthday and that with a mango juice we requested outside of the menu for our 2 yr old were both covered on the house. Now when it comes to the food, we ordered a Gobi Manchurian, Baingan Bharta with Naan and a plate of vegetable biryani. The Manchurian was cold and lacked salt that I had to request to have rest of the order served hot which was taken care. But we found the Baingan more oily and the biryani not being extraordinary (portion size was huge for two adults) But overall, they have great ambiance and the close-by parking is street parking which might be tight on rush hours.

The place was a bit hard to find at first because I think they still had their old restaurant name up... The inside is fairly romantic and dimly lit, with tables along both walls and a row in-between. I was really excited for the dosas on the menu because I haven't had them in a while, but our server said they don't serve/were not serving dosas. Didn't even get an explanation. We ended up getting the fried appetizer platter, cauliflower paratha, palak paneer, lamb curry, lamb pasanda, and a mango lassi. The fried appetizer platter had an assortment of samosas, veggie pakoras, etc. I thought it was pretty good, especially the samosas. Cauliflower paratha was very oily. Palak paneer was completely off; I've ordered palak paneer from dozens of Indian restaurants, and this just did not taste like what it was supposed to. The lamb curry was alright; the lamb pasanda was much better. Some of the food here is good, and others aren't, so it's a bit of a risk if you're willing to take it. Cool bowls though. The samosa was dry and flavorless. I paid for the pair, asked one to be wrapped up and it vanished never to return. Guess they'll reheat it and sell it the next chap. Frankly that's what it tasted like - reheated leftovers. But that was money out of my pocket. The chicken tikka was leathery and without my flavor. I asked that to be wrapped up and the next server refused. So he grabbed the warm skillet handle to push it towards me as if to ensure I understood my job. He didn't burn himself. I suggested he try again. So I dustily speared the dry chicken chunks and plopped them in the cheap styrofoam container he'd throw on the table then threw the stale cold rice on top. Voila. My thanksgiving dinner the next night. Topping off the experience was the shabby bathroom. I share pics. Hallmark for me of an eatery I won't rerun to is an unclean lavatory. Should have known. Mirrored the exterior entrance. Lack of care and maintenance. Also a couple came in while i was there, sat down but then ten minutes inexplicably left. The sole positives? Low key light jazz in the background and a homey atmosphere. But i could get that at home.
