We had ordered food for dinner today and they messed up our order and the food was very bland and flavorless and there were couple of parties going on today so we think that may have caused the mess up! I catered from Jhopri for my event and I could not have been happier. The guests were raving about the idli, vada, authentic temple tasting puliyogare and curd rice. People were surprised that the food was from a restaurant (in past years I've catered from home cooks, and they just don't have the scale and professional service like Jhopri). All the trays were nicely stowed into a huge hot pack container so the food would stay warm until we use it. Best part is they do both south and North Indian food, so you can get both under one roof... both are equally good! HIGHLY recommend Jhopri catering for your next event! read more

Went for lunch buffet on 4/15/2026. Entire dining area was almost empty, with only a couple of tables occupied. There was no one at the entrance to greet or help assign me a table. I prepared my buffet plate and sat at one of the unoccupied tables. Suddenly, after about 10-15 minutes, one of the servers approached me and started talking rudely while I was mid-way through my meal. He wanted to know who assigned me the seat and I should not be sitting there as it was a 'reserved' table to seat larger number of people and I should have waited at the entrance to get seated, even if the entire dining hall was nearly empty. He did not try to listen to me at all and kept on talking in a harsh tone. I felt really bad and uncomfortable. I paid the bill and walked out quite upset with the whole experience. I am a local resident of Plainsboro and have visited this restaurant many times in the past. However, due to the rude and unapologetic behavior of Lester, the server, I'm never going back to that restaurant again. I'm a Senior citizen and he had no respect for age, or sense to understand that I was occupying only 1 seat in the entire empty hall that could easily seat over a 100 people. read more

I've been going to Jhopri since its inception and have always been a fan. However, recently, I held two events here and was sorely disappointed by the food. Some items were cold and others were over cooked. My husband I decided to give it one last shot and try their Valentine's Day Pre-fix Menu. The food was wonderful and they had live music, which was a nice surprise. It was like we were at a different restaurant with a different chef. The overall, 3.5 rating seems accurate as the consistency in food quality seems to be lacking. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite nice and I've been happy with the overall service. read more

We were a group of 12 people went to Jhopri for dinner on Saturday, July 5th at 8 PM. We called ahead the appetizers that were ready when we arrived. We ordered tandoori mix grill appetizers (loved shrimp and salmon) and grilled vegetables (loved the grilled pineapple). We ordered baingan bharta, chicken saagwala and Chicken kolhapuri (was good but the cardamom spice was slightly overpowering. Service was excellent, we enjoyed the food and the ambience. Price was very reasonable. Definitely recommend. The menu is quite extensive. read more

Went to Jhopri for my birthday with my family. They know I love Indian food and culture, so my son selected this amazing restaurant to take me. What a terrific experience. From the atmosphere to the excellent service, and most importantly the food! The menu included all my favorites along with many dishes I've never tried before. We ordered several plates to share amongst us, including the Tandoori Mixed Grill, Coconut Shrimp and Tikka Masala, and a couple others. Include a few varieties of naan, mango lassi and some great wine we brought, it was a terrific meal that will be remembered. We will certainly be back! Thank you so much! read more

This place is terrible for a large part. Slow service, the food was burnt so we had to give it back, the food was okay, not enough wine glasses, not enough naan, no music. I recommend not coming here for a party. If I took my wife on a date then it might be litter better. read more

This place used to be really good, but it has gone downhill, sadly :( They basically only service sauce and there are barely any vegetables and meat inside the dishes. The meat you can find is very dry and the seafood is really "fishy" tasting (usually indicating that it's not fresh). The "vegetable" dishes are basically three pieces of mushed cauliflower in a pot of cream sauce intended to fill you up quickly. Almost every dish is oversalted (probably so you drink more water). There are only 3 meat dishes and 5 vegetable dishes. There are 2 appetizer dishes that are usually flour-based. I used to go every week but then I discovered Crown of India and I go there all the time now because it's a lot better. Unfortunately, Jhopri probably gets more customers because the strip mall it's in has more foot traffic. Crown has a lot more dishes (like 20 total, Jhopri only has around 10). The meat is a lot more tender and the seafood is fresh. The vegetables are also actually vegetables and not just sauce and everything is seasoned to perfection. The manager (who I think is the owner?) will also walk around and personally greet everyone at the restaurant. I've never seen the Jhopri owner. Such a shame because like I said, Jhopri used to be very good but now it's just sauce. read more

(+) The place is nice & clean inside. I can see people holding special events or parties if they wanted to reserve it. Food-wise, the Naan was good, warm & fluffy. The green chutney tasted fresh as well. Same with the chicken Biryani, tasted very good. (-) There wasn't enough selection. With meats & veggie selections, there was only 5-6 trays to chose from. Slim pickings. Compared to a few Indian buffets I've been to in Edison, was expecting a wider selection of food. Also as other reviewers noted, they did not refill the food trays. Only caveat though, it was getting close to the end of the buffet time so I kinda understood why they won't want to refill it. It's an okay buffet for the area. My buddy recommended this place and so glad that he did, it was fantastic! The Harabhara kabab was like a ball made from spinach, potatoes and green peas. It went well with the tamarind chutney and the mint one. Panir tikka was homemade cheese which tasted more like tofu because of the texture, it was packed with flavor! The onion kulcha was a type of naan with onions and coriander and was very delicious, first time having it and never saw it when I was in India. The panir masala and Navratan korma vegetarian style were also packed with flavor and were very thick without a ton of oil like most places make. The ground lamb Seekh kebab was way too spicy and ended up not finishing it. Asked for the Indian pickle AKA Mango Pickle or Aam Ka Achaar. It was perfectly flavored and not too spicy. Went for buffet yesterday and it was a sheer disappointment. Appetizers were cold and the palak chat was soggy. In main course not a single dish was good. Even the basic dishes like butter chicken was a disappointment. When i entered there was the promo for Wednesday biryani night , but after tasting Bringal biryani , part of the buffet , i have no desire to try their biryani. By the way i didnt know there is something like brinjal biryani existed, it was a bad attempt of making brinjal pulav that was served as biryani. Unless you want to spend your hard earned money on a sub par Indian food then definitely Jhopri is way to go. At least for me it was first and last meal at Jhopri.. i had big hopes from the new management of Jhopri but it was a big let down. Giving it one star for the effort to put food on table. So I came here to pick up some food before work. I heard about this place from work because other co- workers ate from here. I also heard this place is tied to Cross Culture in Princeton. One thing that this place does NOT have is lunch specials . They have a lunch buffet but no lunch special or else we would order more from here for lunch. Anyway I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic naan. It is expensive here -$16 for dinner. Yikes. Only comes with rice. Garlic naan was like 3 more bucks. Anyway they had my order ready in less than 15mins. Place is very cute/nice inside . The Garlic naan was ok. But the Chicken Tikka Masala was DELICIOUS. Big serving for being $16 bucks . Was here for dinner around Wednesday 5pm. Since it was an early dinner, no one was around except us. As an appetizer, we had aloo tiki which is fried potato patties and green peas. They were very tasty. Garlic naan came out cold and didn't tasted good. As an entree, we had palak panic, Indian cheese cooked with mild spices. Didn't see or tasted any spinach as mentioned on the menu. Tandoori mixed grill was ok- the salmon was too salty and lamb was not tender. Had better tandoori elsewhere. The bill came out $60 with a tip. Probably have to eat here at lunch buffet for fresher and a variety of dishes. Also, the service was poor. New ownership and a fresh new feel! Visited this place for a Sunday buffet lunch and were pleasantly surprised to see that the quality of the food and the options had taken a definitive turn for the better! It was snowing when we walked in and the food was piping hot! The tandoori chicken, dahi kebabs, onion pakoras were fresh and delicious; the Goan shrimp curry packed some heat and the chicken tikka masala, paneer makhini and gobi were all a notch above par for the course. The tadka dal and madras jalfrezi did make this menu a tad more veggie-centric than usual, but left us feeling satisfied with the robust flavors and their inherent freshness. 2 desserts rounded things off and I almost forgot to mention the star of the buffet - a delicious dum chicken biryani that would put the nearby local Paradise and Persis biryani franchises to shame! When Indian buffets feature a variety of fresh and tasty food, their value is simply hard to beat. We initially drove to Paradise biryani in Princeton and decided to drive past and visit this place in nearby plainsboro and we sure were left satisfied with the outcome! And, the last word in is on the service. The wait staff were pleasant and efficient and the 2 managers stopped by to check on us. If that happens at a buffet it can only augur well for a dinner experience that beckons. Forced to pay tip!!! Super shady!!! I've been coming here since this place opened. Food and service has always been good. However, this last time i noticed that tip was already added to my bill. I understand if this was a large group but I was eating alone this time. Also, it was already charged to my card so you couldn't not pay it unless you had them reverse the charge. Furthermore, if you're not careful and only look at the credit card slip then there's a good chance you'll double tip. I usually tip 15-18% even though it's a buffet. I wonder how many times me and my friends have double tipped. Feeling cheated. I don't know if I'll be back. read more

First of all thanks to Venkat and Nilesh! They made my life easier right from the beginning in taking care of the menu items, tailoring as per my need for my Kid's birthday party. Honestly the quality of the food was excellent. One thing all my guests asked me was about the Restaurant that catered the food and the location. Being a non-vegetarian , I loved the mutton curry/chukka and the Ambur Chicken biriyani to the core.. all my vegetarian friends had a blast with the food too.. :) It wouldn't be justice if I dint mention the Pineapple kesari and sambar (Tamil Nadu style).. 10/10 This is one of the finest restaurants in the Plainsboro, Definitely I would recommended when its comes to Quality and service. read more

Today's buffet was mediocre to say the least if you step in as a vegetarian expect no more than 4-5 items on the buffet. Pav Bhaji had become extremely dry as the pav was probably getting toasted for hrs. Mushroom appetizers were missing mushrooms altogether. Taste is good but portion is so small...rice is only 1/2 pint for a regular dish. Comparing with Moghul express, it is not worth the price.

Jhopri is a beautiful little restaurant in a Plainsboro area. This is a relatively new Indian restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and is very pleasant. The food was outstanding and the service was efficient at the dinner time. We ordered a few typical Indian dishes from the menu. Paneer Tikka and kofta's were cooked to perfection. Bread baskets were filled with very authentic breads of India. We also tried the mango lassi and one other desert. Both were very good. This place is a BYO so feel free to bring a bottle of wine or any other alcohol to enjoy with your meal. We would certainly like to return to this place. We had take-out from this place yesterday. Tiranga kofta, Bhindi masala, Vegetable Jalfrezi, plus naans. Very very disappointed, especially since we've had much better food from there before. Tiranga kofta taste was fine, but one of the kofta balls had a neon green color (part of their attempt to make it tri-color). Bhindi masala -- a lot of the okra was undercooked and therefore tasted terrible. Veg Jalfrezi -- this had large pieces of zucchini and broccoli which are not traditional Indian vegetables, and the gravy tasted very different from anything I have had before. I didn't like it. Also, the amount of rice they give with an entree is small. Overall, very poor value for the money. read more
