As i reflect on my experience, i would describe it as a whole as good not great. Nothing in itself was bad but nothing was overwhelmingly amazing. The staff: as a whole, they were friendly, polite and welcoming. Though our server was absent and seemed not confident or maybe overwhelmed. Not sure if the team was understaffed but it felt like it. The environment: it is a nice quaint little location. It can feel crowded at times inside and with covid i didnt like that very much. Music was loud and made it very hard to carry on a conversation. Drinks: we had multiple cocktails. They were pretty average as well. Nothing that blew my mind even with their signature ones. You will spend $$$ on drinks here for sure. Food: nothing really blew me away here either. The ceviche was expected - light and refreshing. The grilled cheese was probably the stand out with the carnitas. We then had the chicken and the short rib. The short rib was unsurprising. For wagyu, i would expect a more stand out flavor but it tasted like every other short rib i have ever had. The chicken on the other hand was the knockout of the night. It was tender, had a great crunchy skin that was blackened and the pureed feta was a nice touch. Finishing: we would have liked to stay for more drinks and dessert but we felt rushed out. We were reminded that there were others waiting for a reservation so we felt pressured to leave. We decided to try another place for drinks and dessert. Holy $h!T. This place is absolutely amazing. One of our all time favorite bartenders, Tommy, we saw a couple weeks back and told us he is here. Made a reservation, sat outside with the bangin' tunes. What to order??? 4 of us, so one of each was not going to work. Salmon, burger, quail, carnitas grilled cheese, 69 shrimps & some trifecta spread thing. Awesome is an understatement. Alyx gave us great service all night long. She kept the drinks flowing and was extremely attentive. She anticipated our every desire. The after dinner drinks....we couldn't decide, so we did one of each. We are still debating which is better. No clear winner, with the group, but I vote Tommy's Mexican Coke float cocktail. I would give this place 3.5 stars if possible, but because my $30 entree was so terrible, I'm going with 3 instead of 4. This place is really cute and has all the makings of an upscale gem. When I first walked in, I was really surprised but how nice it was and was glad I had dressed up a little. My party and I split the burrata which was fine- but nothing special as an app. And then for entrees, we split the burger and the octopus. I would say that the burger was pretty good and their fries were absolutely divine. The only thing in question with this dish was if it was worth $20, and I'm not sure it was. I am only writing this review because of how bad the other entree was. We ordered the octopus and it was so charred I couldn't taste anything except the char. And for $30? I came looking for a glass of wine and a quick bite and on the walk over I saw the added bonus of the happy hour menu. I ordered their burger as my quick bite and it was lackluster at best. The bun was massive compared to the patty and it was untoasted, the wagyu burger patty was either previously frozen or absolutely killed on the grill and there was so much sauce that I couldn't taste anything else. It really shouldn't matter if it is a Happy Hour menu or not when it comes to the quality of the product. They are marketing that they are using high quality beef making it all the more disappointing that it isn't showcased in the burger. Oh, and there wasn't even soap in the bathroom during a pandemic; just slimy hand sanitizer mistaken as soap. Yikes. In terms of the atmosphere and ambiance I will give them a big plus. The indoor seating is pretty and the outdoor seating is very spaced out and has a nice groove to it. I may try Nightcap again in the future to see if the main menu has any more inspiration but after the hand sanitizer bathroom incident I was put off to try any more food. When I saw the menu online, I literally thought it was a joke as it contained about 8 items with 2 of them being dinner choices and I thought it was a joke until we arrived and the joke was on me. Our waitress explained that every Wednesday the plan is to add 3 additional items to the menu...sadly, we were there on a Tuesday. We should have left and dined elsewhere and then I would probably be writing a better review...but, we stayed. I am a huge fan of brussels sprouts, but after having them at Soto just days before, these did not measure up. They just had too much tomatillo jam on them. I typically like quail but if it tastes too gamey, it's a done deal for me and I was done. My husband loves wagyu beef, but his burger was covered in so much special sauce it was literally dripping on the plate and he was not impressed. The jidori half chicken was good, but the panna cotta was salty and bland. I was not impressed with the service we received from Alyxandra B. as customers should not have to tell you that their water carafe is empty and that they need clean plates. When you literally only have 3 tables, there aren't any excuses to be made for lazy service. Would I recommend Nightcap? The lawn is super cute, I like the catchy phrases on their sign, and I just looked at their menu and sure enough as of today, it looks as if more items have been added and more will arrive soon. We had a lovely dinner at Nighcap. First, they have a really innovative cocktail selection (love The West Egg). The food is also spectacular and fits a range of food preferences. Do not sleep on the local winter salad...sooooo good and the dressing is fantastic. The arroz con pollo and the potato gnocchi are two of our favorite dishes to share. Finally, the service was outstanding! Victor A. was our server. Victor is knowledgeable, kind, and friendly. We've never had to wait, it's never overly crowded, and everyone who works here is sooo nice. We always bring our dog along too - they are super dog friendly, she loves coming here. we chose this restaurant for the final dinner of my bachelorette weekend bc of the menu and reviews. i had very high hopes for this place, and was sorely disappointed. the good: - we arrived for our 7:45 reservation (group of 8) and were seated fairly quickly - the yellowfin and local melons, watermelon carpaccio, and crispy brussels were delicious and were served in a reasonable amount of time the bad: - we originally ordered 2 orders of the wagyu, only to be told afterwards that they had sold out for the evening (this was around ~8:00 to 8:15), so we settled on salmon (well done, fully cooked) and a burger - we waited close to 2 hours to be served our food; our server stopped by ..3 times? the first time to ask about drink refills, second to clear the table and let us know that our food would be coming soon (it didn't) - when the food arrived almost 2 hours later, the salmon was "seared" on the outside yet cold to the touch and completely raw in the middle. our server then stated that "thats how it's supposed to be" and "it looks cooked from here" - a manager eventually came by after we sent back the food and comped the salmon but did not seem to care about the experience we had. ultimately, we ended up leaving disappointed by the service and food. read more

Put in our entire order to avoid delays. Order comes, food is good, time goes by and again we are forgotten... we wanted another round of drinks and water but never got there...meanwhile table directly behind us gets spoken to and fully addressed this entire time by our same server?!. I couldn't help but compare our service to the one next to us. I was expecting better from this fun trendy place, but initial reaction was a very pretentious vibe from most of the staff. Loved the vibes and aesthetic of this bungalow turned bar/restaurant! The servers are friendly, they allow dogs on the patio and even provided a water bowl, and accommodated our custom drink requests. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Nightcap, but on a Tuesday night at 8:30, I was in here thinking "This is pretty cool." They've taken the best from Austin's latest & greatest checklist and condensed it in this remarkably renovated house. The craft cocktailers have their own bar, and even a living room space. You pretty much have me at dark two-top, soft candlelight. They're big on micro-greens, one chef's puffed sorghum is another man's popcorn, but I did have some genuine double-take moments - like the pretzel rolls and a really superb fettuccine. Incidentally, I think impeccable service done casually is a gift. Our person Liz was an art form. I'm curious now what their daylight Sunday brunch is like, and I hear happy hour is a good deal. It was also the first time I didn't do any desserts, just so I could return some night from 10pm to midnight, and do all of them. And maybe even split that late night burger special, which sounds pretty intriguing. Yeah, that would be my kind of nightcap. read more

*This review is just on drinks.... and the universe* Lemme start by saying, this place literally called me to come and when I got there, it jus felt..... right. I know that sounds crazy, but check this out and you'll see. I'm at work and unbeknownst to me, the owner Christin and her chef, Matty were sitting across from me. Over the course of their time there, Nightcap is mentioned and I mistook it for a bar I had been to, but I remembered having a great time there. I realized I had the wrong spot and said I'd be sure to check it out sometime. The VERY NEXT DAY, I'm at the gym and see a guy wearing a Nightcap tee. Explain my meeting the day before and he says he's Tim, the bar manager. No way! I'm off work, so I made it a point to pop in and say hi. The place is a little bungalow tucked away a little west of the downtown craziness and even though it's on a Main Street, it's very quiet. I walk in and aside from the physical structure being a house, it FELT like a house and not like a restaurant. They built the place around the house instead of trying to force a house to be a resto. Christin was behind the bar and I gotta say she crushed it. I scanned the bar menu and love the assortment of cocktails as well as the clever names! Very on-time. Shortly after I got there, a gang of regulars showed up and Christin is holding like 6 different conversations at the same time. Hell, even I got started talking to a couple. A hot spring day, sipping whiskey, meeting new people and feeling the love she's got for her business and her patrons. I was thankful the universe decided I should go. I spent a couple hours in there and was only supposed to go for one drink! I didn't scan the menu, but Christin chose for me and Chef Matty prepared an excellent hamburger + fries. Just the right amount of salt on the fries, long and crispy with an amazing dipping sauce. Burger was rich and decadent with the toasted buns so perfect textures and flavor profiles. This is EXACTLY what every neighborhood bar/resto should hope to attain. Great atmosphere, good music (downtempo, ambient electronic soothing tracks), repeat customers, just enough cocktails to not overwhelm, low key beers up to fancy liquor/wine. Really like this Happy Hour. Cool spot off the street in what looked to be a renovated house. Nice yard, good porch, and a living room feel while dining inside. Happy Hour stretched all day on Tuesday and was throughout the restaurant. Wine for $6 was a good deal as this was some fantastic cabernet. Cocktails looked good and were good price. Did run out of a cocktail (which not sure how that happens) but each had its own thing going on so no issues. Small menu to begin with, but virtually the entire small plates were on sale for about 30% off if you do the math. Brussel sprouts were the star in my mind with a nice sized dish and good flavor all around. As I like, the sprouts weren't smelly and didn't have that flavor lingering after eating. Nightcap is a cool spot, but very limited in the choices. I find it more of a "nightcap" spot where you want some finger food like shishito peppers or brussel sprouts or bread to snack on while drinking, rather than a 7pm dinner reservation. With that being said, I do really want to try their burger and hope it gets lifted to the Happy Hour menu so I can come back on a Tuesday and get a steal of an experience. But overall a nice spot and perfect if the weather is right to just chill outside and enjoy light fare and strong drinks. read more

We've been longtime patrons of Nightcap and a lot of that has to do with Christin and the staff who she leads. The entire staff wants to make your time there exceptional. The bartenders are experts at finding out what you like and if its not on the menu will concoct something unique and more often than not it hits the mark. As for the rest of the staff and kitchen, they are just as good. The menu works, not overwhelming just good food made from local ingredients and well prepared. By the time we leave we feel like we've spent an evening with friends. Tonight we did the carry out because we know and trust them and we were not disappointed. I had a chance to visit Nightcap for some desserts about two years back, so when I had a mini-reunion with friends in Austin, I requested if we could revisit Nightcap for our dinner. I was so glad the group agreed! The atmosphere and service at Nightcap was impeccable. Different staff members visited us to explain about the menu and checking on our experience. We really felt welcomed being there. For drinks, we eyed the watermelon-infused cocktails, but regretted the decision since the alcohol taste was overpowering. I had expected a much fruitier version, but was delivered a shock instead. I will remember to ask for suggestions next time on drinks! Foodwise, we started with the recommendations from the waiter, which included the Housemade Pretzels and Hamachi Kudo. The Pretzels were so-so, nothing out of the ordinary. My friends really liked the Kudo--I am not a big fan of raw fish, so I cannot judge it. For our entrees, we got the Roasted Chicken and Seared Scallops. The chicken was AMAZING! The skin was crunchy, yet the meat was tender and moist. I so wish to be back to Austin to enjoy that chicken dish again. The potato and mushroom sides were spectacular as well! One friend and I definitely could not fault that dish. My other friend enjoyed her Scallops plate. I do want to come back to try the scallops though, since it looked pretty good! Now, the desserts were equally the main stars of the night as the entree, and we ordered all 3 dessert items on the menu. They said go big or go home, right? The kid side in me absolutely jumped in joy. My favorite dessert dish was the funnel cake. The funnel cake was crunchy and hot, paired up with the molasses, grilled peach and buttermilk ice cream. Oh, and we also added the foie gras. That was heaven!! All the different flavors fit together nicely! The chocolate flourless cake was also great as well. It was definitely rich and very moist. However, the coconut pudding left a lot of room for improvement. I was vastly disappointed when the presentation looked more like a "watermelon/fruit" dish. More importantly, the watermelon was marinated/infused with ginger water or so, so much that the ginger flavor overpowers the entire dish. The watermelon also lost its crisp and juicy flavor you'd normally expect as well. I really liked the small islets of coconut pudding available on that dish, but I pretty much stayed away from all that watermelon. Overall, I would love to come back to Nightcap for the Roasted Chicken, Seared Scallops, and some more of that funnel cake! Please stay as a gem in Austin! read more

I love this bar! We had dinner reservations with friends or we would have stayed longer for more drinks. The vibe is elegant but fun, with a nice list of cocktails and an outdoor area for games and hanging out. The happy hour is incredible, with most of their cocktails priced at $7. They have a small menu for food but it looked good. We sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing.
