What a great night spent at nightcap. It is such a cute and quaint place for dinner with friends or a date night. It's a bit small as it's a renovated bungalow but the lighting and atmosphere definitely sets the mood. Went here for apps and cocktails, and was not disappointed. We tried the brussel sprouts and the charcuterie board, along with the meatballs. Everything was delicious. The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and charred and the blend of flavors on then we're delicious. The charcuterie board was good, but it would've been nice if we were told what we were eating. Like if the cheeses were labeled or something. Nonetheless can't complain, paired well together. The meatballs though were really the star of the appetizer show! They are wagyu beef and pork in a homemade sauce, just melted in your mouth. Definitely must get! As for drinks, I love the names of the drink, they're unique and funny lol. Such as "Forgive me Father for I have Gin-ned" and "Joining the Milam-High club"!! I got the "I've made myself clear" cocktail and it was so good that I stuck with it and reordered it all night, no need to switch up something this good. We ended the night with the Tres Leches dessert, which I am not a fan of Tres leches anyways, so I wasn't loving it, but my date was and said it was amazing. So if you're a fan, may be worth a try! I came here for a little girls dinner. We were able to get reservations inside which was good because it was a hot day. The food was ok. I got the burger which was ok. It definitely wasn't better than any Whataburger I had. My friend for the chicken fried rice. She was told it was spicy and it definitely wasn't. She was not pleased with it. We both did love the fried green tomatoes and Brussel sprouts. I am giving the spot 2 stars because our server was not very attentive. The bartender came to our table more to check on us than she did. Had past this place a million times but finally took a chance on somewhere new and tried Nightcap out for brunch this past Sunday. I'm a sucker for old houses repurposed as a restaurant and this place is right up my alley! Not only do they have parking but also a decent patio area if your looking to soak up the sun during your experience. They also have live music here on sundays for brunch. As far as the food is concerned I highly recommend you try to fried chicken and biscuits as it was made to perfection. My partner opted for the shrimp & grits which looked equally as delicious. My only critique is it took awhile to close out and get the check but other than that no complaints here! Nightcap is truly beautiful, it manages to be a good mix of nice and cozy on the inside but there's also outside seating for some fresh air. The staff are friendly and the drinks strong! I didn't beg anything to eat so I can't talk about the food. I also love it that they play around with the name of their drinks - The BBC, Ghost 'em gurl, Forgive me Father for I have gin-ned etc. The primary reason I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5 is that the service was lacking. There was confusion about who should seat us and after we sat down, it took a good 25 minutes before we could place an order even though we were the only ones seated inside - so they could see us- and even then, we had to flag them down to take the order. Same thing with our bill. The did check on us several times while we were drinking and I saw one of the staff blow up balloons to go surprise a party that was seated for birthday brunch so it felt like a really nice, personal touch. I'm hoping my experience with the wait was the exception but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Came here on Saturday for their brunch which honestly I had no idea they had started meals outside of their usual dinner and dessert menu. They had a live band playing inside which can get rather loud since it's a small venue but luckily the music was great so we enjoyed it! As for the food, we ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and the sweet potato hash. Both were delicious and definitely a large portion (pancakes being the bigger portion). The hash was really tasty with the carnitas added to it, and the fresh avo on the side. Would highly recommend with the pork. The pancakes were delicious and fluffy and massive. It comes with a blueberry maple syrup which I would definitely prefer more syrup for the massive amount of pancakes but they were seriously so good! For drinks we also ordered a bottle of champagne for mimosas and they let you get all 4 juices if you're a larger group who can't decide on just 1 which I think is a great! This is my second time at nightcap. The first time was pretty great, but now I'm completely sold. Claire took my reservation which was originally set for 8:30 but my date and I were running behind. I called and asked if we could move it to 9p. She asked me the details of my party to be able to accommodate us properly. I thought that was pretty above and beyond, and I was absolutely here for it! We got there and were seated accordingly. Alex was our waitress tonight, and although it was ( obvious, by our surroundings, that it was busy AF - She carried full trays in and out, while multi-tasking and taking our orders, including ours. All courses were accurately brought out, and with great timing. Finally, we were approached by a gentleman, named Drew, who was making his way to multiple tables. He greeted us, and asked us if we needed anything else. We were all set, so he proceeded to thank us for coming out during an unpredictable time. Again, above and beyond! The first thing that soured the mood: someone's random bulldog in the bar area, which was a flagrant violation of every health code imaginable and disgusting/uninviting to boot. Mercifully it and its owner left after 15 minutes. It took the server a loooooooong time to come over, and while she was very nice we wouldn't exactly describe her as attentive. Drinks (following the dumb name trend) left a lot to be desired. One of us ordered the grasshopper for fun and it was like the worst tasting mint cough syrup concoction imaginable. We sent it back and their coffee martini was better but not by much; the eye roll-inducing "Rye You No Call" was OK Dessert options were limited, so we settled on peanut butter cookies and tiramisu. The cookies were OK, nothing special, but the tiramisu was one of the worst we've ever had. Bitter and unappetizing with none of the right textures. Overall, the bill came to a pretty penny just for our alleged "nightcap." Our initial spark of interest and excitement was extinguished by the end of the night. Will say regardless of food experience - I would come back to this place any time just for the vibe. I've been twice now and had the food once which was a little pricey for my taste (got a wagyu burger for about $18 and wanted to be healthy so requested vegetables instead of French fries and that was an extra $4 for "crudite" which was just some chopped cucumbers and carrots in a tiny bowl). However, I LOVE the drinks. I got one called "the Grasshopper" which I think is the sweetest cocktail on the menu (what I asked for!). It was a coffee themed drink with vanilla ice cream in it but it was rather strong! My date got a drier drink, but he also liked it. The place is inside of a converted house and feels cozy, but still upscale. It's also just down the road from good other food options (eg Lin, which I think is also expensive but high quality for dim sum). But when the bite entered my taste buds it was very apparent the caramel was burnt. It was so bitter! I guess the chef did not taste it, but it was dark so they really should have known it was possibly burnt & to taste it to ensure quality control. Okay on to the next dessert- peanut butter cookies with banana cheesecake. I love soft peanut butter cookies. We were given spoons, but these cookies were so hard they needed a knife! The banana cheesecake was an ice cream the 3 cookies were placed on top of. I had to pick up the cookie & bite down very hard. And even though you would think the ice cream would make it softer, it did not. They were plain over done & on the verge of being burnt. We sat on the patio & it was nice people watching. The patio is covered with fake grass. Not sure where to park? We snagged one of like 3 spots behind the restaurant when someone was leaving, so not sure where everyone was parked. Nightcap is a decent happy hour spot but I do not feel compelled to make a return. There are better (and frankly, cheaper) options nearby. The best part of the experience is the patio which is well appointed and situated along west 6th street. They have a mix of tables with chairs, picnic tables, and a couch/sitting area. We ordered a handful of apps. The Italian meat and cheese, brussel sprouts, and the chicken wings. The brussel sprouts were the only one I would order again. We also tried several cocktails. I did really enjoy the cocktails but none of them were standouts. I probably wouldn't order more than one if it were not during happy hour. The standout of the meal for me was certainly the barbacoa grilled cheese! I could eat that every day but certainly shouldn't... I'm sad to say the worst part of our experience was the service. Everything was quite slow. We wanted another round of drinks but by the time our server checked back in on us we had already finished our meal. I really, really wanted to be impressed by Nightcap, because it's been on my want-to-try list for months! This review was written after dining for the 2019 Restaurant Week(s) event, with a pre-fixed menu. If you're not familiar with Austin's Restaurant Week, it's a charitable food event where restaurants create limited time menus with set prices and send a portion of the proceeds to the Central Texas Food Bank. The short and sweet of it: Great food, limited but satisfying cocktail menu, inefficient and off-kilter service. The building itself is a lovely building which has been carefully adapted to restaurant use. The bar is elegant and the dining area is extremely pleasant. Unfortunately the restaurant itself is just not running with all its cylinders firing. We arrived for our reservation and waited in the pleasant entryway for about 4 minutes before being greeted. I was willing to forgive this until I got home and received a notification from Open Table that I had been marked as a no-show. That means not only a black mark on my OT account, but no valuable dining points. Once seated we requested the restaurant week menu, and when the waitress delivered it she made sure to let us know that splitting the restaurant week fare was not allowed, but otherwise no explanation of the food was offered. My husband ordered the special vodka cocktail, and I asked if one of their tequila based cocktails could be made without Pineapple due to an allergy, and if not then a simple margarita would be fine (lots of cocktails had pineapple.) Both cocktails arrived and I asked to confirm the pineapple had been left out... and the waitress apologized and disappeared to get me another, which was very pleasantly tart and spicy when it arrived. I probably should have just opted for wine or something safe, but I love a good tequila cocktail almost as much as I hate the itcy hives pineapples can give me. I'm living life on the edge. Our first course of brussels sprouts arrived and was fabulous, with a great texture and flavor from not only the veggies but the dressing, chopped peanuts, cilantro, and a jam. This was fabulous and I'd order it again, and I'm going to try to incorporate cilantro into my home sprouts recipe because it was brilliantly unexpected. Thankfully we had quite a bit to talk about, because our next dish would not arrive for 20 minutes, though the dining room was not crowded and it was 8pm on a Friday night. I was initially shocked that a chef would choose to highlight chicken breast of all things during a foodie-promotion, but this was a perfectly cooked piece of chicken, plated well and balanced with greens and carrot puree. I was totally impressed. In summary, the food here is quite good and clearly the kitchen is executing well. I was more than happy with the quality of the food we received for our $50 per person meal. However, for the prices I saw on the rest of the menu and the clunky and mildly unwelcoming service (and the hassle of clearing my good name at Open Table) I cannot honestly say it will be worth a return visit. If the front of house can iron some things out, I could see this place becoming a gem, but for now I can just check this one off the list. read more

It's a great idea not greatly executed. The notion of converting an old house into a understatedly-elegant casual dining place is not new - think Green Pastures - but when executed well it can be delightful. I hope these people keep trying. The house itself is cute enough, and there is a smallish parking lot (10 cars?) along with street parking and no valet, so already I like them. Clearly people from the 'hood use this place too as we saw several couples/groups walking around the corner and coming in. Two main dining areas - one to the left and one off just a bit ahead - form the primary dining areas. It was cozy, not tight and you could see the people were relaxed. There were just a few tables available inside, so the place appears to have a good clientele. That's a good sign. A covered porch had another three or four tables available for dining as well and they were full. Down the steps from the porch were picnic tables and an outdoor sofa set around some coffee tables. Restrooms are down a long hallway off to the side, and at least the men's room was adequate but not lit well and not clean. I don't know why you'd have a higher-tier restaurant with a second - or third - tier bathroom. Our hostess was delightful, while the second one was not. After ordering a drink and a cheese plate while waiting for my date at the picnic table it took 15 minutes (with two bartenders working a not too big crowd) to come back and tell me unfortunately they'd run out of that brew. I asked her to see if they could find another one in less than 15 minutes and she took they hint and came right back with a pedestrian, but cold, beer. Shortly thereafter the second hostess arrived with our cheese plate - truly the sorriest little cheese plate I've ever seen - and informed me without any real niceness that "food" was not served outside after 7, and the only reason she was bringing the plate was that I had ordered it before 7. Oddly, later on my date asked to see a menu to see what they offered and she got the same clinical "you have to go inside" reply before may date nicely said, I just want to see it to decide if I want to go inside. Almost grudgingly, the hostess found a menu. This place could use some manners. The sofa lounge seating area was disappointing. The cushions were filthy and wet in some places - the outside is dog friendly so who knows if one tracked water in, spilled their water bowl or whatever - but it was definitely a downer. And the cushions were just not comfortable as you sank way back and struggled to hear your partner given that the place is located right on Sixth with cars whizzing off to MoPac. Pricing for two beers, a drink and a paltry cheese plate was pretty high I thought. The frites it came with were the right oil content and flavor, but a tad on the overcooked side.Great for only the first five to ten minutes only, with a fast decline after that! *Grilled Whole Fish looked gorgeous, bone-in. Did not quite taste as good as it looked. *Roasted Chicken Breast probably the least value for your dollar. The criminis were a nice addition, potato-like purée excellent, as was the moist and moistly tender 6ish oz breast, but really a very small portioned entree. The *Churritos dessert was fine, but nothing I could call amazing or decadent, as reported by others. Honestly a disappointment for $10. I've driven past Nightcap so many times so my boyfriend and I finally decided to stop in for a date night dinner. The aesthetic of the restaurant is great, it's moody and eclectic and there's often live music for entertainment. We were originally seated on the patio right by the door but requested to move because it felt like we were about to get hit every time someone walked in/out. The staff was very accommodating though and had no issues moving us as there were multiple open spots around us. We also noticed a couple that was sat at our original spot also requested to move so I promise it wasn't just because we were being high maintenance. As far as the actual food and drinks, it was great! I started with a mezcal cocktail that tasted like an old fashioned but with mezcal so that was interesting and my boyfriend got a cucumber cocktail that was so refreshing. For appetizers, we got the Spanish meat and cheeses and the dip trio. I highly recommend the dips, they were all so good and different. For the main course, my boyfriend got the carnitas grilled cheese and I got the night cap burger. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Finally, we finished the night with one of their dessert cocktails. It was basically an adult ice cream float which was a fun twist. COVID Precautions: Minimal. Nightcap hosted a memorable 30th birthday party celebration for my wife and 20 of our closet friends. They setup a long bench for our party in the patio area, and even decorated the table and area with beautiful balloons and placement settings. The service was amazing! Donovan is THE man! He has served us before at Nightcap and always comes through with great energy and recommendations. Our guests said that the restaurant experience was the best part of the birthday celebration (we went to a rooftop bar with a private DJ later that night). I owe this to the exemplary service, awesome vibe created by the ambiance and music selections, as well as the amazing food and drink selection. Bonus notes: a DJ played backstreet boys and our entire table started a sing-along with the restaurant; the restaurant owner personally came out with sparklers and birthday shots to help celebrate the special occasion. My boyfriend & I went to Nightcap on a Friday evening, 7:30 reservation. The only positive thing I can say about our experience is that the restaurant is in a cute, converted house in Clarksville; interior esthetics are nice. Everything else was either subpar or downright awful. First of all, there was only a single waitress for 12 tables, one of which was a large birthday party. ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. Service was atrocious. Extremely slow & inattentive. My boyfriend sat for over 30 minutes without a drink after finishing his first beer. I finally had to track down the poor, sweet hostess (I couldn't find our waitress anywhere) to request another beer for him, which then took over 10 minutes to appear at our table. When our food finally arrived, my Ranger Cattle Short Rib was so fatty as to be almost inedible. I gave up trying to eat it 6 bites in, after having to (sort of discreetly - my attempt at discretion decreasing the more annoyed I became) spit out 4 of those bites because they were nothing but globules of fat. My boyfriend had the Roasted Jidori Chicken, which had a nice flavor, although the meat was pretty dry. The table beside ours also received terrible service, to the point where they were about to leave, until the waitress came over & plied them with multiple free tequila shots. NOTE: She openly, right there at their table, joined them in imbibing tequila shots. We saw her do the same with 2 other tables while we were there. At minimum, she had 3 shots of tequila within 45 minutes, which I can't imagine did much to improve her job performance. Unprofessional to say the least. Once we decided we were over Nightcap & requested our check, we waited, trying to be patient, for it to arrive for over 20 minutes. I finally got up, went to the hostess & told her, "We're walking out the door right now, so if you'd like us to pay our bill, we'll do it right this moment or not at all." My boyfriend pointed out that it seems like they have a pretty epic bar at Nightcap (with 3 dedicated bartenders, I might add), which is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. Conclusion: Forget about dinner at Nightcap, maybe give it a try for drinks only at the bar. Although Austin has much better options all around, so probably just drive on by & don't bother. read more

This review is for the bar/drinks only. First off the bartenders were extremely nice! Good vibes at the bar. Super friendly people. I had the west egg to drink and loved it. My partner had two different mocktails which aren't on the menu but whatever they created was amazing. The food smelled great and I'm excited to come back to eat another time! read more

Was hoping this to be a new neighborhood spot for our group. However, with $7 for a cup of 6 oz coffee for brunch never going back.

Everything on the menu looked great. All the drinks looked solid and we split a few apps and enjoyed everything we got. Indoor and outdoor dining available, really great atmosphere and a great spot for date night. read more
