We had the incredibly good fortune of having Caroline as our server. She was fun, interested, and interesting. After deliberation, we narrowed down our top choices. Honestly, I wanted to try at least seven different things on the menu. Note: Neither one of us care for oysters, but there are plenty of other things to choose from. So, don't let their emphasis on oysters deter you! For maximum variety, my PC and I decided to split things. That ended up being a great decision as everything was fantastic. We started with the cheese puffs (think popovers or the texture of Yorkshire pudding) but they were filled with a hot camembert cheese, with a touch of honey & parmesan. They were magical! We had sides of Potato Grain and Wood Fired Cabbage. Both were delicious. The potatoes are super rich and creamy. We split the Parisian Gnocchi and it too was delicious. Now this might be the time to mention that in true French style, these are not huge portions of entrees. There were probably 4 decent sized shrimp and maybe that many small bay scallops. But they were FRESH and delicious. No mistaking the freshness! Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we even splurged and got the baked apple cobbler (not what they called it). Absolute perfection to the point of making me rethink my normal practice of being a bit heavy handed with my cinnamon and nutmeg when I make apple desserts. Oysters are great! BUT when entrees are $34-$60, a 2.5% convenience fee to dine there is uncalled for! Friendly hostesses as soon as we walked in for our 5 pm reservation on Monday. Have dined here in the past (from Michigan) but was the first time for our family visiting from Sarasota. Kallie was our amazing server and answered every question we had. Her knowledge of the menu was off the charts. We started with two dozen of a mix of happy hour oysters and the beef tartare. Insanely delicious. Chicken Cordon Bleu, tile fish and whole roasted snapper were the main course with haricot verts and potatoes au gratin as our sides. Saved room for baked Alaska and house made chocolate ice cream with cookies and crème brûlée for dessert. With espresso martinis of course!! We will be back!! Went to Nico for happy hour recently with a good friend. We decided to make a reservation to sit at the outside bar which is heated and covered for winter. We started with the baked Scallops, which is a newer item on their menu. It was 4 medium sized scallops served on the half shell with harissa butter, parsley and baguette. They were good and perfect to share. We also decided to order a 1/2 dozen of the happy hour oysters which were Bekah Bays from NC and they even gave us one extra East Cape oyster to try for free. As you can see, the oysters were quite large and tasted great. For my meal I ordered the Camembert oysters with the delicious camembert cheese, garlic, white wine, shallots and baguette. They were delicious as always and actually quite filling since they are in such a rich cheese sauce. Yum. My friend ordered the Lyonnaise salad which was mixed greens served with poached egg, crouton crumble, lardon, pickled onion, parmesan and a tarragon vinaigrette. It was huge and delicious! My wife and I sans kids stopped in for a belated birthday "dunch" on a recent Saturday afternoon and had the entire place to ourselves. For starters, the building itself has an interesting look and feel (I'm convinced it was a Pizza Hut in a past life) with a heated patio and warm driftwood and glass finishes. We started with a half dozen NC house oysters, French onion soup, and baked scallops. The oysters were sweet, clean and refreshing, served with eyedroppers of lemon juice and horseradish sauce. Quirky but effective. The soup came in a dainty bowl but met expectations. The scallops were a bit of a mystery--completely white without any sort of sear. Unfortunately, a couple may have been undercooked, as my wife felt nauseous after we left. For entrees, I had the bouillabaisse, which delivered on all fronts with a rich creamy base. Perhaps some baguette on the side (rather than two small croutons slices) would have balanced the richness better. My wife had the lobster roll. Delicious chunks of lobster were served on a thin strip of baguette--which prevented the bread from overwhelming the dish. Very savvy move. It was served with shoestring fries and cheese fondue. The fries were pedestrian--a bit soggy and without any seasoning. I could be wrong, but they did not seem to be freshly cut in-house. The fondue quickly coagulated as it cooled--perhaps a small candle could have been used to prolong its dipping powers. Finally, we rounded off the meal with a crème brûlée served with three chocolate cookies sprinkled with sea salt. Yum. Overall, a solid meal and refreshing change of pace to the typical Shem Creek seafood offerings. Our server was efficient and attentive. A few small missteps with my meal cost Nico's a star this time around*, but easily remedied. I look forward to our next visit. (4 stars). *My wife, also a Yelp reviewer, may not be as forgiving. Started with the scallops ceviche with grapefruit and it was just ok the grapefruit is over powering and that's not my ideal classic ceviche. The bacon clams were the star of the show, definitely a must try. I had the smallest most expensive bland lobstah roll I've ever had the opportunity to taste. For $29 you expect more protein and the fries tasted like McDonald fries (hubby made that comparison and I agree). I didn't finish my fries which is very telling. Just expected more from a place that advertises pomme frites. Hubby had the French seafood stew bouillabaisse and I tried to talk him out of it because I just had a feeling it wouldn't be great and boy was I right it was so tasteless. Service was excellent - the wine Jacquere in the style of a Sav Blanc was the perfect pairing for our lunch. Lobster roll was delicious- chilled in the Maine style, the meat was tender and scrumptious and paired perfectly with the toasted roll. The fries - all fries should come with cheese fondue. My teenager was in heaven. Then we sampled the oysters - Bekahs Bay, Glidden Point, and Single Ladies. The tuna oyster was a surprise - tuna tartare on the house oyster. The food: We shared some oysters, ordered the lobster roll, bouillabaisse, and Parisian gnocchi, and finished the night with the molten chocolate cake dessert. The oysters tasted really fresh and were absolutely delicious. All our entrees were flavorful and a good portion size. The dessert really stole the show for us- that decadent warm chocolate brownie cake with a massive ball of rich chocolate ice cream was a chocolate lovers dream. I'd come back and eat that as my dinner. The food was excellent. The service: I made a reservation for 6pm and they showed me to my table which was already set and had menus ten minutes early. I love that. The hostess was really nice and made validating parking really easy. Our waiter was very friendly, made good recommendations, and came back to fill our waters frequently. He was great as well. The atmosphere- The patio is really nice because it has heating and curtains to block the wind as well as lots of natural light. Had an amazing experience at NICO, recommend by multiple family members and decided to check it out. Enjoyed a bottle of Maison Darragon with an order of house oysters on the half shell. My second course was an order of the Provencal roasted oysters with parsley and butter that came with a side of baguette slices. Third course was Parisian Gnocci accompanied by the potatoes gratin. Over all, 8.5/10, everything was nearly perfect. To start, Andi was a knowledgeable and professional. Andi provided service that was attentive and proactive, such as clearing plates, dropping silverware, refilling water, etc I was dining alone and Andi made me feel comfortable and I enjoyed the conversations I had with other team members as well. Everyone was very polite and friendly. Team members explained menu options, wine selections, specials, and checked on me through the meal to make sure everything was delicious. The menu was approachable but upscale and had a lot of options for any true seafood lover. The menu featured a variety of raw bar selections and cooked items to try. The team was also very graceful and the courses arrived seamlessly, it was easy to sip wine and relax on the patio without any distractions. There was not much time in between courses and everything arrived beautifully prepared and prompt. The oysters were high quality and fresh(which is clear because the adductor muscle was not cut, the cups were filled with liquor, and the oysters were bright and plump). Oysters were presented on a bed of ice with a small eye dropper of lemon juice and hot sauce, cocktail sauce, seasoned crackers, mignonette, and an inedible garnish of a very large conch shell. (I couldn't eat it or hear the ocean... but it was interesting and brought a vibrant color compliment to the blue plates). The house oysters had larger shells but a shallow to medium cup size. Medium to high salinity , a nice creamy texture, and balanced finish. The oysters were very clean and didn't have sediment. Overall they were tasty and very enjoyable. The additional condiments were a nice touch as well. The roasted oysters were flavorful and sizzling upon arrival. I tried a few alone but the additional of lemon and hot sauce made them better, which usually isn't a good thing but it was nice to try everything. I finished with the Gnocci and a side of potato gratin ( a great suggestion) and I wasn't disappointed. The Gnocci has a bright and savory flavorful sauce and had a good balance of different textures. The legumes had a nice crispy layer on top, smooth sauce, and tender potatoes. Nico hits the spot everytime I go. We started off with Wild Harvest Oysters and Calamari, both were very good. The salmon is hands down my favorite dish here, the chive beurre blanc is very good with the salmon. Today I tried the duck confit for the first time and it was really good as well. With the fire roasted fish, make sure you let them know how you want it cooked, because different people have different preferences for how they like swordfish to be cooked, so the normal way may or may not do it for you. These mushrooms they have are my favorite mushrooms!! The best I've had anywhere! Nico always has great service also. This is one place I definitely recommend. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary with the best food, and we are so happy that we picked Nico! We live in Meggett, so it was a drive for us, but we'll worth it. We were greeted with champagne for our special day, which was a nice surprise. Our server was professional and kind, and told us all about everything and then some. We started with oysters and scallop ceviche. I love the oysters I picked and experiencing different flavors from the northeast, midatlantic and the good ole lowcountry. The ceviche was delicious, although the bitter grapefruit was a little bit of a surprise. All components eaten together worked very well, however. My husband opted for trout almondine with a side of ratatouille. He loved it, but wasn't used to a ratatouille without eggplant. I had the bouillabaise and was not disappointed. I am super picky about bouillabaise, as I was part of a French family for many years where the recipe was made from scratch for special occasions, and it was a true southern France delight. Nico's recipe is spot on. Perfect flavor, perfectly cooked seafood. I would have only preferred more bread and no potatoes, but I ate it all and loved every bite and slurp! It's really sad to say that over the last couple of years this place fell off completely. Last time my wife and I came here it was one of the best meals we had in Charleston. This time it was by far the worst we had all week. From the poor service (lacking personality and the self awareness to say anything when our food took 45 minutes to come out) to the bad food (raw burger, poor tasting octopus, average drinks, and bland cooked oyster) we were definitely disappointed and likely won't return or recommend this place when talking about all the great restaurants of Charleston. I have to say, from start to finish it was a great experience. Showed up early for our reservation. We asked if we could just sit at the bar and have a drink and wait for our reservation time. (showed up an hour early) Our waiter greeted us at the bar (Brendon). We ordered a couple vodka martini's. As we sat at the bar sipping our drink we watched the staff shucking oysters. They were so skilled and it was awesome to watch them make short work of shucking those delicious oysters. We decided to order some ourselves, and they surely didn't disappoint. We ordered 3 different local S.C. varieties. Yum! Next we had 2 different appetizers. The Beef Tartar, and the wood fired roasted octopus. Both were so good. We practically licked the plates. HaHa. Next we shared the Chicken Cordon Bleu. It's was very well done. Served with a delicious sauce and gnocchi with mushrooms, and peas. To finish off an already great meal we shared the Baked Alaska. As with all the courses, it was just wonderful. I think the best part of the experience was the staff. Levette, at the raw bar, Brendon our waiter, Nick who I think was the assistant manager, and everyone we encountered. He thinks I was ruining his champagne and I was looking to have an extra kicker to his house champs. Either way, it was not served correctly AND the portion was small, like his attitude. We split the croque for an appetizer---THE BEST HOLLANDAISE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! You usually get the mix, but this was the real deal--sunny and lemony. It's just a well balanced dish, saucy Hollandaise, a beautifully laminated puff pastry, scrumptious bay scallop goodness, and finished with bright micro greens, YES!!! 2nd course of lobster rolls with actual French fried frites--roll was perfectly buttered and toasted with a generous portion of lobster salad---just enough dressing to accent the lobster, without being overbearing. Don't skip dessert!!! Several nice offerings but we tried the peach cobbler. ***If your sharing, get two scoops of ice cream. It was a huge dessert!!!! NICO unfortunately does not match its rating. The space itself is modern and overall nice (minus the exposed spray insulation above). The staff is kind but expect to wait a long time to put in any of your orders in. For example, we put in our order around 11:30am but did not receive the food until around 12:30pm. After waiting an hour for food, you expect something delicious, right? Unfortunately, the food quality is not worth the wait or the price tag. The food tastes fine but the portion size is pitiful (especially for how much you are paying!). On the bright side, the staff is at least polite and somewhat attentive. Given the wait time, portion size, and high prices, I would not recommend going to NICO. I would check out the other restaurants in the area to get tastier food with better portions and price point. Had lots of oysters in Charleston and these were simply not the best. Next came the roasted oysters and THOSE however were PERFECT. What a great place to add real seafood options with a unique spin to the shem creek area. After being a fan of chef Romo at Fish, I've been excited to try out Nico. They've created a really cool space with the open kitchen and seafood on display like a fish market. The presentation was top notch too starting at the driftwood menus to the crostini served out of a conch shell! We shared a bunch of appetizers. The pommes frites had this cheese fondue sauce you don't want to miss out on. I had never the periwinkles before and you get a ton with the order. It's fun fishing them out of the shell, but there just isn't much to it... all the flavor comes from the sauce and bread. I think I would like these better warm as I know that's often how you get them in the northeast. The octopus was good but I've had others I've enjoyed more so maybe I wouldn't be so quick to order it again here. It could have used a stronger sear and maybe more of a citrus flavor. The shrimp cocktail were excellent and were a crowd pleaser. You get a good amount of shrimp to share and the seasoning on them really differentiates from your standard shrimp hanging onto the rim of a glass. I ordered a skillet of scallops with a bed of asparagus wadding in a buttery sauce along with some bread to soak it all up. Scallops are one of my all time favorites and this one was excellent. The scallops were a good size and cooked perfectly. I was lucky enough to sample the Trout (special that evening) covered in pesto and sliced almonds. Everyone at the table fell in love and this was probably the winner of the night. Our service was great and towards the end of our meal, Chef Romo came out to say hello and ask about the food. We ordered a bunch of legumes, fromage, ceviche, and oysters. I don't eat oysters, but my husband loves them. He ordered almost one of each on the menu. Unfortunately, he spit one out and said it tasted a bit spoiled. He asked the waiter if had the right names next to them on the ticket. He said yes. The manager came up and told my husband that they checked all of their oysters and it must have been that my husband doesn't have a complex palate. OUCH! My husband is a chef, and even if he wasn't, it was shocking for a manager to say that to him in front of me and other guests. My husband was offended. The legumes and fromage were fantastic. Now to start, I am not really a seafood fan, we came in for my wife's birthday and she is a huge seafood fan. We had heard really good things! Quite simply, I wasn't disappointed, but nothing really blew me away. We requested to sit on the outside bar patio which by the way is a very cool environment. It is closed in with heavy plastic tent material and it keeps the heat in so it is very comfortable. My wife and I enjoy sitting at the bar due to engaging in conversation with the bartender and seeing what they recommend and what not. Now I can't say I remember the name of the bartender we had, he was a good bartender but not personable really at all. If we ever had an interaction it lasted less than 5-10 seconds. He did provide us a complimentary glass of champagne when we sat to celebrate the occasion which was nice. He just seemed much more focused on drink service than bar service. Don't get me wrong. It was fairly busy, but we just felt like we would have gotten better service at a table which is usually the opposite in my opinion. We decided to order a 1/2 dozen baked oysters and a 1/2 dozen raw happy hour oysters. This is the first time I have EVER tried an oyster. I'll say that the topping had great flavor but I was kind of hoping it was cooked a little more. It just reminded me of a slimy mushroom lol. My wife liked them but said they seemed a little undercooked. She enjoyed her half dozen raw. I also ordered a bowl of their Nico Chowder and unfortunately never received it. I didn't make a stink about it at all after realizing it wasn't coming due to knowing I wouldn't now eat my dinner if I had it. I just didn't realize it wasn't coming until we received our dinner. Little instances like that make me wonder why bartenders don't write down orders... For dinner my wife ordered the Seafood Gnocchi and I had the chicken cordon bleu. Both were very good. It was one of the better Cordon bleu's I have had in a long time. We also ordered the Potato Gratin. I wasn't particularly a HUGE fan of the potatoes as I felt like the nutmeg was a little much. It was something I was willing to try but just wasn't my thing. We ordered the Baked Alaska for dessert after googling on our phones what it was. We were presented with three options for dessert. It is verbal only. The first were explained to us and then he said "the third is Baked Alaska" and left it there. Not knowing what it was we searched for it and ordered that. Although it looked nothing like it did on Google lol, It was pretty good. Different from what we would normally order, but very tasty. I would recommend it My wife said she enjoyed pretty much everything to eat but nothing really blew her away. It was a good date night spot. I really teetered between a 3 and a 4 for the review. But the fact that I didn't receive my chowder made it a 3. I would recommend due to the atmosphere and location, but not my type of spot read more

OMG! My little family of three won the food lottery tonight. After a long day at Patriots Park and Fort Sumter and a terrible drive out to Isle of Palms and back, we found Nico! We were there around 5:30 so even though we didn't have reservations there was a table. I wouldn't advise that move! For starters we had the cream puffs which have a Camembert cheese sauce in the middle. We also had the roasted Camembert roasted oysters. Both so yummy. The boys had the gnocchi with seafood. It was awesome . Little puffs of potato heaven with seafood in a rich sauce. I had the scallops. Loved my choice also! For dessert, we got the cream brûlée and the Baked Alaska! Both were great. Cream brûlée was less sweet so that was my favorite and the boys loved the Baked Alaska. So far it is our best meal in Charleston! read more

Nico is by far our favorite restaurant in Charleston. Came in here with my husband and in laws and we sat in the heated outdoor patio and were very comfortable. The server was excellent and made great recommendations. We ordered the Octopus, a couple different types of raw oysters and clams, the Potato Caviar and Escargot with Provecale Butter to start. All of the ingredients used were so fresh and delicious even the little things like the Serrano Pepper dropper for the oysters were very nice touches. For our entrees we ordered the Nico Quenelle, Parisian Gnocchi and Whole Lobster which were all amazing. The Parisian Gnocchi was our tables favorite dish. To finish off our meal we enjoyed the Baked Alaskan and Creme Brûlée which were so sweet and enjoyable. If you are looking for a great meal in Charleston look no further than Nico. read more

We ended up at Nico's for happy hour based on a recommendation. We were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. I loved that the tables included a pump bottle of hand sanitizer! We ate in the outside area which was really an enclosed area free from the elements. We came die the oysters and were not disappointed. I ordered the house white which was a nice Spanish dry wine and hubs ordered an IPA. Since it was Monday, oysters were half off so hubs had the waitress select a mix of oysters and I opted for the house oysters which were 1.50 each during HH. The presentation of oysters was the prettiest I have ever seen!!! That in itself was worth the visit. We will definitely be back for a meal next time we are in town. Highly recommend! read more
