No deep fryer so the menu is limited to burgers, patty melt, grilled cheese, etc. However, you won't find a better 1 lb burger for $10.75 anywhere. It felt like 2 lbs. Instead of deep fried appetizers or sides, I recommend the pretzel bites. They are warm, soft, and buttery. The bartender doubled as a server and so did the chef. Everyone pitched in and the service was great. There were no douchebags among patrons, just laid back people having a beer. The dining area might seat 20 people, so while there were no scumbags cussing and being obnoxious, and while this lack of scumbaggery generally makes even a "tavern" kid friendly, I wouldn't bring kids that run around like maniacs or are loud and annoying (which your kids shouldn't be anyway, but this place isn't Pizza Hut). I've been here several times and never been let down. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the menu is somewhat limited. Even without a deep fryer, they could grill some fish and throw it on a tortilla and serve some beans. They could do a little more. But overall a great place. read more

Nick's? Where have you been all my life??? Hidden away in Lemont, this bar is a cross between a dive bar that serves food and a neighborhood pub. Had it not been for fellow Yelper, Robert R., I never would have found it- for it was here that we met one night to enjoy "burgers as big as my head" (his description) and icy cold beers. His promise did not go unfulfilled. For within 15 minutes of ordering- there arrived on our table, paper plates groaning with the weight of the burger it was being asked to hold. The burger and bun overlapped the plate and the toppings were piled high. And this giant mess of meat was perfectly cooked but it was almost a shame to cut this giant in half just to be able to eat it. If you can't see any of the the thousand signs in this place that say, "No Fries", know that they have, no fries. But bags of chips are in abundance. Service was friendly and this is obviously a place full of "regulars" as there was a lot of back slapping and hugging going on with everyone who walked in the door. And this place has one of the nicest women's restrooms I've ever seen in a bar of this type. But the funniest thing? They close whenever they want. Slow night? Close it up. Bartender needs to go? Close it up. I think on the night we were there they kicked us out around midnight. But not without a smile on our faces! read more

Cool little bar. The tap selection was a bit off for me. But they had what I drink in a bottle. I was hungry after work and asked the nice lady tending bar if I should eat here. She looked at me like I just kicked her brand new puppy. "Of course you should!" I ordered the hamburger. No fries, only bagged potato chips. Good with me, that way when I leave his little place I don't end up smelling like a line cook. When the burger came out it was bigger than my freaking head. I have been visiting Nick's for about 23 years. When i started eating here a 1lb burger was 5 bucks! What a deal! Well I'm here to tell you , it's still the best deal around Chicagoland. Not just because you get a 1lb burger for 9.50, but because it is one of the best burgers in chicagoland. They are made to order. I'm a medium rare fan and they never disappoint. They do NOT have fries. Bagged chips if you want. The other food is great also, but the Big Nick is where its at. They keep pretty much the same staff over the years and they are all nice. One of my favorite places ever! It's an absolute local tavern which makes the best burgers EVER. I wouldn't recommend goin at peak hours with a large group, it's a small tavern and it fills up quickly. I go with the nick burger with cheese, grilled onions and steak sauce...delicious every time. On my way home from work today, I realized it's been waaay too long since I've stopped at Nick's and so I checked my glovebox and sure enough, their menu was still there. When ordering, I try to keep the toppings to a minumum so the flavor of my burger is not to be disguised. That's how I tell how good the meat really is. Anyway, one quick call and in no time, my burger was ready and waiting for me when I'd arrived. With 10 minutes still to go before I was pulling into my driveway, I buried my meal behind the seat so I wouldn't start nibbling at it on the way back. Sometimes you just do what you gotta do. I'm only giving this place 3 stars due to the service. I work in the food service industry and expect a certain level of customer service. Can't say the bartender did anything but her job. She took our drink order and food order, but that was it. She didn't check back in on us until we were done with our food. We were there to watch some football on a saturday night and it was not too crowded, but there were some really loud talkers and people yelling as they played LCR (dice game)... I love LCR, but don't need to have someone screaming in my ear for 30 minutes straight about it. But, their jukebox (frozen in time at 1974?) played all kinds of classic rock from the sixties up to 1974 was a nice diversion from the screaming going on. Maybe I'm just getting too old? Good food for a neighborhood bar. I don't quite understand all the 5 star reviews but they did help me find this place. You probably have been to a place just like this many times before. An ordinary bar. Some tables and booths to eat and drink at. A limited menu of standard fare, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc... No fries, just bagged chips. The only thing notable is the size of the hamburger, it's the size of a small frisbee. I can't bring myself to follow the crowd and give them more than 3 stars. It's just OK. Not great. Worth coming here even if from far to experience it since these type places are few and far between. It's ok to bring kids even though it's a bar, I would suggest an age where they can sit still. Best place for a Fred Flinstone brontosaurus burger...as in they are huge! First time back since the new owners and the burgers almost seemed bigger, still great. Takes a while to cook them because they are so huge - gives you extra time to drink beer! The bartenders are friendly and are focused on customer service.
