Had to come to this interesting looking bar in Lemont after going by here. It has a Blatz sign and not just that but they have cans of it too. Tom's Place is certainly a throwback with the beers of yesteryear. Also it's cheap. You can get wasted on a few bucks it seems. Convenient location in the downtown area. It's next to the Metra station. There's also a ton of other bars around here but this beats all those. About the cheapest place for beers or anything. It's $2 to get Blatz. This is the only place I know that has it around here to be honest. Cheap but it's a good classic beer. It's $5 to get the cheapest cocktails such as Jager and Coke. They have no food except for popcorn. Got cheap beers and cocktails. It's known for the cool sign outside. The cooler thing is they actually have this classic beer, along with cheap ass liquor, and free popcorn, making this a must stop for locals, visitors, or whoever. read more

Tom's Place is a better place to watch a Bears football game. The bartender may take a little while to warm up to, but once you do the service is first rate. Karen is an excellent weekend barkeep specialist. A local bar in its 101st year, from the preserved tin lined interior ceiling to the artisan made antique cabinetry, Tom's Place is a great place to spend some leisure time with friends. The best feature is the draft beer selection is dominated by domestic non-light lagers. Hamms, Schlitz, Old Style and PBR. Plus a terrific halftime charcoal BBQ lunch. read more

I have been going here at least once or twice per year in the last 15 years. The owner is the one that would always be the person behind the bar when I was there. He was always very friendly and an excellent bartender. Tonight (Friday evening) was the first time I've experienced someone new behind the bar. I must say the bartender was one of the worst bartenders I've ever experienced. She was an older, unfriendly gray haired woman in her mid 60's. She completely sucked. She did not greet us as we sat at the bar. She continued to talk to a customer she apparently knew while we sat at the bar waiting for her to greet us and ask what we wanted to drink. She acted like she was being put out when she finally approached us. My friend and I were extremely turned off by her reaction and attitude. After we finished our drinks, we waited patiently for another 30 minutes before my friend got up off his seat and had to interrupt a conversation she was having with another regular at the end of the bar so she could refill our drinks. Again, we felt as though we were inconveniencing her. This apparently is not a job for her but more of a social outing. This bartender is horrible. I was looking forward to coming to this bar because I hadn't been here in awhile and always use to enjoy myself. I'm not sure I'll ever come back here after tonight's experience. Best dive bar in Lemont! Just a note, this place is cash only but there's an ATM on site. You can watch the game or listen to music on their electronics jukebox. If you want to gamble there's poker machines in the back. Mark knows how to pour a drink, extra tasty all the time! And if you want a Bkatz Beer it's the only pkace you can get one around! read more

While waiting for our table across the street, we decided to check out Tom's. One side is the bar area and there is a small room to the side with a couple of hightop tables and the dart game, oh, and a fake fireplace. We were able to sit and wait and watch the Bulls game. It had a rather unusual smell and has not had much updating in it's existence, as evidenced by the black and white photos on the wall. I was enamored by the one of a woman in her mink coat and springy hat, sitting at the bar, circa 1940s or 50s. Looked like it could have been taken last week, I think the exact bar stool is still there, but where would someone have found black and white film? So, instead of standing over people eating their dinner, we relaxed and enjoyed our beverage before heading back to wait an additional 15 minutes to be seated. read more

This is my favorite bar by a long shot. It's very welcoming and warm, and has been since the first time I walked in there no matter the time of day. This historic bar has photo's hung up on the walls from the 30's-the 40's to give you a little taste of the history of Lemont, as well as a taste of the finest cocktails in town (try one of Mark's Manhattan cocktails to see what I mean.) This is a CASH ONLY bar, and the ATM is located around the corner in between the two restrooms. The bar is always very welcoming to musicians, as there is a piano in the other room with the big screen TV and round tables for dining. If you're looking for a real (For lack of a better term)"Cheer's-esque" bar or just looking for some real southern hospitality so close to Chicago, this is the place. I'll probably be there.... Lemont. Who knew? I never knew!! Came to the little town of Lemont with a few pals to check out the new home of a friend. What better way to check it out than visit a few local pubs on a friday night?! Ended up doing the bar crawl (Tom's was the second and last bar on our crawl, lol). The patrons all seemed to have very friendly, smalltown personalities. Very small and enjoyable group. Now, what will make Tom's Place so memorable is Casey. LOL. Casey was our wonderful, funny, attentive, playful and very customer service oriented bartender. I mean, she was great! An absolute riot!! Can we have a yelp page just for her??? Every local bar needs a Casey filling your pint glass about 85% full. lol Oh, they have Green Line on tap, a huuuge plus for me. ($3-3.50?) A night i will never forget, thanks Casey. I have been here quite a few times. I tried to give this place another chance considering the horrible time we had during our last visit, but apparently it wasn't enough. So Tom's is old and full of old stuff like old wood and old patrons, myself included. The prices are about the same as everywhere else in town and the location is central. Unfortunately, the staff is kind of mean. I was here with a small group of late twenty-early thirty somethings a few months ago to grab a few drinks and were treated like crap. The place was almost empty and we were paying customers, yet the bartender made it a point to come in to the little room we were sitting in and tell us not to touch anything and that he would call the cops if we stole anything. We are all mature, working adults. We don't go to bars and break and steal things. The only reason I come here yearly is to get the discount mugs they have made for festivals. Otherwise, I always take my business elsewhere. read more

I. Love. Tom's. Place. We moved to Lemont over a year ago, and Tom's Place has become, without a doubt, our favorite bar. Unpretentious, unassuming, un-alot of things, this place is a hidden gem. The bartenders are exactly the right mixture of surly and friendly, and, if you're in luck, the son of one of the bartenders will be there, and treat you to a private piano concert. Yes, this place is for the locals, but I have come here with people of all walks of live and always felt extremely welcome. Great drink prices. My dad was amazed that there were still places that served Blatz on tap, and it was an awesome moment of deja vu for him. (For me, Green Line all the way!) Keep it up, Tom's. I visited this little bar yesterday and oh my gosh was it great! Lots of character and a great hometown feel that many bars lack now. Everyone was super easy going and friendly. This place is a freak show. As soon as you walk in, it's 1982. Cash only and the place smells like moldy ass and cigarettes even though you can't smoke in there. Anyways the cocktail I ordered tasted like sweaty man balls. I think the bottle of Jack was 15 years old. And I don't mean it was "ages". Anyways some old perverted customer at the bar started saying vulgar and disgusting things to my wife. I told him to cool it and the bar tender laughed at me and said we might be better off across the street and the new stone tavern or whatever. So we finished our dusty glasses of watered down street grade liquor and left. On the way out, I slipped on a spilt drink and everyone laughed and yelled "cut off" to me. Just to be clear it was 8:30 and I had just the one drink. I think someone tried to throw a dart at me too. Anyways. We went to the vault and had mucho whiskey shots. All good. I got hammered and puked all over their sink and then I walked out like a Boss. I'm also good at moonwalking too. read more
