The outdoor patio in the summer time is the best and the do have umbrellas so it is a little shaded. I love Lemont so have been checking out their various spots. Hughie McClafferty's is an Irish pub with a decent beer list and most importantly, Guinness. When we visited I ordered fish and chips and a Guinness. The Guinness was poured correctly. The food was ok... not bad, not great. I'd probably try something else if I went back. An okay Irish pub or about as good as you can expect. Hughie McClafferty's is one of the many bars around here. It happens to be next to the tracks in downtown Lemont. Every now and then hear a loud train blasting by when the door opens and then your ears throb awhile. The drinks of course include plenty of Irish whiskey, and the food menu has typical Irish food along with a few salads. Fairly quiet the last time here except for the TVs, and some slightly drunk patrons at the bar. I was enjoying watching some games with the others and got some drinks and food. This is an Irish pub so that means you need to get Irish whiskey. It's $7 for a large pour. The food has less to be intrigued with. It has typical Irish cuisine. There's bangers and mash. I had a Southwest Salad because it's one of the few meatless choices here. It's $9 for a big but not so filling one. This has avocado slices, black beans, chipotle ranch, corn, lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, and tortilla strips. It was vegan except the dressing. Try it with an oil or a vinaigrette. It was kind of expensive just for vegetables in a bowl. This thankfully had lots of avocados in it. Basic Irish pub menu you can find. It could use more plant based items. Thought I would explore the downtown streets of Lemont with my two youngest in tow, I decided we would have lunch somewhere in the area. I know and understand now that downtown is a bar town, and I was a bit dissapinted not to be able to find a family friendly place. Outdoor eating does not expose the littles to too much bar hijinks so we went with outside eating at Hughie McCafferty's. The set up is fine enough, with two tables directly in front. There was another gated off section, but I had no idea whether or not that location also belonged to the bar as there was no signage. Hence, we went with one of the two tables up front which happened to be next to the other table where someone was smoking. Perhaps we should have just dined in? The waitress was nice, although it freaked me out that she wasn't wearing a mask. I'm assuming she is also vaccinated, per the CDC? At any rate, she was courteous and attempted to explain the vegetarian options. I wanted something light and so I went with the Southwest Salad($9). I ordered the two littles a Grilled Cheese on potato bread(($6.50) with a side of fries(an extra $2.50). Never order a salad at a bar, but I should have known better. I could have made something better in my kitchen. Whereas it looked pretty enough the corn and black beans were obviously canned and the chipotle ranch tasted funny. It's lack of cheese was also significant for the price point. The avocado was the best thing in it. My daughter's grilled cheese was good, though. Irish cheddar was used and whereas my daughter nor son enjoyed it, I could have easily eaten the whole greasy thing. Definitely bar food, although it did not come with the coleslaw as advertised. The french fries were fresh and decent. Weird part of being in the Irish pub was that they continuously blared country music? Definitely catering to the masses, but were we not in an Irish pub? I am sure everything would have been ten times better had I also been imbiding, but I am attempting to make the rounds in the area and I feel Hughie's could have an actual veggie burger or something of that nature. I will probably be back some day for drinks with the husband, but overall I felt they have room for improvement. read more

I have been here now quite a few times. Tonight came on a date. Sat outside. We brought a dog. Loved that it's a dog friendly spot. They even provided a bowl for water for the dog. We first ordered the fried pickles. Delish. Then for our mains....I had a corned beef sandwich - which is what I always get at an Irish establishment. My favorite! I always order it a bit different and they absolutely accommodated me. My date ordered the chicken sandwich grilled with all the toppings with the sweet potato fries. He loved it. Very tasty. Service was excellent. Very friendly. Even the patrons were nice petting the dog. Each time I have come here has been a positive experience. Definitely recommend. read more

I placed an order for pick up. The lady never took my name; however, she told me twenty minutes. Got down there, and I had to wait for someone to ask me what I wanted. The waitstaff and the barstaff were just too busy with the drinkers, than help em with my order. My food wasn't even ready. Had to wait another 10 minutes for it. My wife ordered the Chicken Curry; my son ordered the Fish & Chips; I have their Classic Rueben. First, they put the Chicken Curry in a Styrofoam tray; it was like warm. My son's meal was warm as well. He even said that he wished that the fish was a little more crisper. My Rueben was warm, but didn't have a lot of Swiss cheese on it. Great addition to the Lemont area. Stopped in for lunch this week and then again for cocktails on Friday night. Place feels very comfortable with a great bar, great atmosphere, good food and friendly family staff. The menu is limited but we had the burger, salad and beef stew. Would give zero stars if I could. Horrible service from bartenders who seem miserable, which translates into poor a experience for customers. The food is overpriced and subpar for what is supposed to be an Irish bar. They are also notorious for closing early and kicking customers out into the cold. Well this puts the cherry on top, went to the bathroom and saw kitchen, which looked disgusting, and the cooks were making the food without gloves! I have been to Hughie's several times now and each time I wonder how this place is still open. The service is horrible (and ditzy), the food quality is below average, and the prices are not reasonable for what you get. Christine and Manus are the owners and I guess they run a pretty sloppy ship- they have been rude to their customers, they let in underage kids during the night hours, and they close early when they want. I was in Hughie McClafferty's last night with my husband and his friends for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere started off laid back, breezy with the windows open. It does turn into a fun night life bar come about 9:00 pm. Food was great for a pub. What I do need to comment on are the two bartenders, blondes, maybe sisters. They worked their booties off behind that bar. We went to a few other bars in the area and not one of them had girls with the work ethic of Hughies- and the bar was packed! If I owned a bar, I would want those 2 behind it for me. I just wanted them to know, great job ladies! Can't remember the girls name, something very Irish, which was fitting for the Irish pub. First let me say that this bar is in a great location in Downtown Lemont, and that the staff was extremely attentive and enthusiastic. That being said the beer selection was just average and the food was not that good. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie - it smelled great, but the taste was lacking. Ordered an appetizer after another 10 minutes. That arrived in about 15 minutes. Ordered soup and dinner. Another couple came in and sat next to us. They got their soup AND their dinner before ours. We'd been there for 1 hour and 45 minutes at that point. I canceled our food order. The nice waitress came over after about 5 minutes... our food order was up, did we really want to leave? Yes. She brought the check and pleaded to give them another chance. No fucking way. You don't even take anything off the bill after we were waiting for over 2 hours for food and people who arrive well after we did get their food first??? Good luck on this business. I wish my review of our towns new Irish Pub could be more positive but it fell short of expectations. Although the beer selection was very good my food selection was bad. I ordered soup and sandwich combo which was reasonably priced at 7.95. The soup was tasty although was only a half bowl full and lukewarm. The worst part was my half of corned beef sandwich. I picked up the marble rye bread and it was cold and hard like it was either frozen or refrigerated but I was hungry and figured once I got to the corned beef I could get by that. My bite of beef was complete grizzle and fat. Now I know some corned beefs are fatty and I don't mind that but this was not chewable. I spit out and opened my sandwich to see all the meat was the same. So I pushed it away and said nothing. Soon the bartender asked if anything was wrong and I told her. Just so happened that the owner or manager was standing right beside me speaking with a salesperson so the bartender says to her this gentlemen says his sandwich is all grizzle and fat and the owner says absolutely nothing and turns away I was stunned. To make the situation worse and show me the lack of business class this place has the bartender told me she would take the sandwich off my bill and that's exactly what they did. The place has a good feel for an Irish Pub and they have a decent beer selection. We didn't eat so I can't make a comment on the food.
