I will always seek an original "Art Deco Bar" to experience, until Joe's Saloon. The originality of the wood bar itself is the primary draw, so I thought. The regular clientele that actually pay money to keep this place in business could give 2 shits about it! Take one step away from the vintage bar and it just looks like any other remodeled beer joint. The Illinois Gaming Commission has a stronghold here with their foot firmly up your ass! The back bar is borderline TLC and the vintage red neon light fixtures now feature LED lighting...that's just wrong! "What makes this a "Saloon"?... I guess because Joe says so... "Is this a worthy destination?...Only if your a local beer guzzler. "The Saving Grace?"...They serve Schlitz on tap.

I went with 5 stars because you just don't see bars like this anymore. Don't judge this book by it's cover, as I did for so many of my post-legal drinking age years. It's not bad looking on the outside, it just gives no illusion whatsoever as to how retro-awesome it is on the inside. The bar and woodwork are beautiful. Complete with old Schlitz beer light, framed Alberto Vargas pin-up girls, and glass-encased orange neon (think old-school roller rink. That's what it reminded me of.) To enter this bar is to take a step back in time. This is the kind of place our dads went to for a shot and a beer. It's perfect. The waitress / bartender that was there during our visit was friendly, helpful, and downright hilarious as all hell. We each had two craft beers, (can't remember what they were, natch) and some snacks. I had the chicken tenders with honey mustard sauce, and my husband had the chili. Very, very good pub grub. They have a totally decent menu which also includes a few sandwiches and pizza. We will be back for sure as we have such a fondness for places like this that have been run by the same family for generations and are not pretentious and stuffy, but rather banking on the fact that they know what they are doing and do it right. Long live Joe's!!

The original wood bar from 1939 and all of the accents at Joe's are beautiful!

A very cool- beautifully restored- art deco place from the 1930's...they have Schlitz on tap(!) (along with more hip beers) and some great wings. The setting is very nice and relaxed and the bartender was friendly. I'll be back!

Great space to have a party and easy to decorate!

Excellent bar food to share as well - the nachos plate is truly one of the better bar nachos I've had, with loads of melted cheese and plenty of toppings. The ceasar salad was great too with actual fresh lettuce (sometimes hard to get at a dive bar). The spinach and artichoke dip is tasty and delicious when consumed hot and fresh. The tots and fries are great - the crinkle cut kind. Drinks are pretty decent too! They make a great margarita and aperol spritz. A fun suburbs find!

Revisiting tonight left me feeling disappointed to have to leave a 2 star review. A local high school playoff game left Kenny's staff organization and service subpar. Their team was hustling to keep up but simply couldn't with demand of an unexpected full house. Upon arrival, we quickly saw it was packed and loud. We sat ourselves at a table and after 15 minutes of no one coming to us, I went to find our own menus. We flagged down a server who unkindly told us we weren't her table. When our server did come, we decided to order everything at once to not delay. Our appetizer came out with our entrees which was disappointing and then had to ask for silverware. Our server never checked in on us once we got our food but only when we needed the bill and a box. Thankfully we didn't need refills on our drinks but waiting another 10 minutes just to pay our check. The only saving grace was the food. Their menu offerings are simple but tasty. I've never seen them this crowded when I've visited in the past but sadly I wish I had dined somewhere else tonight. I hope my next trip back when in the area can prove to be an improvement from tonight!

Pete took care of us and went above and beyond to make our visit special. We ask suggestions for cocktails and he had great recommendations. My husband got the Adventure Land and Pete made me an "off menu" Last Word cocktail with mezcal he had been loving to make. This drink was amazing to say the least! It was frothy yet fruity and very balanced. The Adventure Land was also great and exactly what one wants in a summertime gin drink. I later also tried the One Upon a Time in Mexico which gave more of a mezcal spritz vibe. It was lighter and refreshing. For food, we shared the Scallops as well as the Gnocchi. All Starters are 25% off during Happy Hour. Items can still come at a premium but they had so many options to choose from, portions were standard sizes, and quality was great. Pete offered a free birthday dessert but we were too full to accept the generous offer. I highly recommend stopping into Fourteensixteen to explore their menu and drinks!

My friends and I have stayed away from here due to rude staff, riff raff, fights, etc. in the last several years. We decided to give them a try a week ago as we were assured by another patron that it was under new ownership. The new owners supposedly cleaned house and removed all the previous troublesome staff. Everything seemed to have improved from our visit here a week ago, but that's because Michelle was not there. We had zero issues with the staff that day, we were served without issue, and overall we thought the renovations were an improvement. The prices have gone up but they have added premium beverages to their selection. Unfortunately, Michelle was not included in the staff overhaul, and mistreated my friend during a recent visit. It is a real shame that The Cordial Inn continues to have problem bartenders, because this place *used* to be a gem. It's now a far cry from cordial. The interior renovations are not worth it for any of us to tolerate disrespectful behavior from bar staff. I am beyond offended that the new owners allow the bar staff to treat customers badly. There are plenty of other choices in the area, and my choice is to spend my money where the staff appreciate my money and patronage.
