After stopping by Output Lounge in Berwyn for drinks during a local event, we were eager to come…read moreback for a full meal. Inside, the pub features over 20 big-screen TVs--which would have made it an energetic spot to catch the World Cup games earlier this summer--though the hard surfaces create a fairly loud atmosphere. Because the weather was nice, we opted for one of the seven sidewalk tables out front. Unfortunately, another diner was smoking marijuana nearby, which spoiled the outdoor setting. Be prepared to use your smartphone, as menus are accessed strictly via QR code. We experienced significant timing issues with the kitchen. We ordered boneless teriyaki wings to start before placing our main entrées. Surprisingly, my Cobb salad arrived first--10 minutes before the appetizer. My husband's meal didn't arrive for another 15 minutes after the wings. Quality-wise, the Cobb salad fell short. It used exclusively iceberg lettuce--a cheaper alternative to the typical blend of romaine, endive, and iceberg--and was served with Thousand Island dressing instead of a classic vinaigrette. However, my husband's turkey club was a hit, served with crispy, perfectly cooked tater tots. Ultimately, while it may appeal to others, it wasn't the right fit for us.

The drinks can be pretty stiff, and the prices I cant complain with. They also have suck-n-blow shots which is a must try if you have never done one! They have a digital juke box, and a dart board in the back. There is one person bathroom for the ladies, so be patient. All in all it's a great bar, with character, and yes a large group of cival servants of all kinds frequent here!

Their beer and drink selection has always been a plus for me, but since I'm currently on a healthier eating kick, I really appreciated having plenty of lighter options to choose from. And you can turn any salad into a wrap. They also have a great kids menu, and our toddler's meal happened to be free that day. A free toddler meal? Say less. Our waitress was kind and very attentive and honestly we've never had an issue with service here. It's also a great stop after spending the day at Brookfield Zoo. Good food, plenty of drinks for the adults, options for the little ones, and everyone leaves happy.

My Paloma was okay, heavy pour which is appreciated, made better after squeezing an extra lime. Large menu, drinks & food selection is crazy big. For food, my husband ordered 3 sliders with only the patty & cheese; smelled great coming out. The patty portion was smaller than expected but with the special going on, hard to complain he said it tasted very good. He also ordered tater tots, which did not arrive after waiting awhile, it was decided they weren't necessary so no fuss. I will say we weren't charged so could've just been an honest mistake. I ordered wings & chips with salsa. Chips were nice and hot coming out, salsa verde was fine with a bit of heat not sure if it was made fresh or not. Wings are HUGE but flavors were lacking. I picked Mild & Cajun dry rub. Cajun was much better as the Mild felt a bit soggy.. Very very clean for a "sports" bar, large selection of games on the TVs so everyone had something to watch. Server was very kind and personable, checking in at least once after our initial food was brought out. Would I come again? Maybe just for drinks if an important game was showing. Price felt a little high for what you get, but our server was still nice so no reason to take it out of her tip!!

It's a great way to end a hard week at work. Phil's is pretty big, a typical no-frills strip mall suburban bar. I've never eaten at Phil's, but they have standard bar fare and I must say that the pizza looks awesome. But again, I haven't eaten there (yet). And, by cheap drinks, at least the last time I was there last fall, a Jameson served neat was $4 and a generous pour! Needless to say, I was good 'n buzzed just in time for the fish fry across the street!

Man, I'm SO mad someone got to review this gem before me. 3 Stars!? C'mon. This mo-fo is a…read morefiver. Be forewarned, I use the word "gem" loosely. The previous poster was right, Joe's Saloon is on 47th Street just west of Plainfield. If you're coming from 1st Avenue, it's about a Mile west. I like this bar because of the odd, undeliberate charm, cheap drinks (ahem dollar Schlitz all day everyday), decent jukebox (used to be awesome before they went digital... Patsy Cline awesome), and the infamous Dollar Mystery Shots. Your choice of A, B, and sometimes C, depending on what stock the owner, Ellen, thinks they need to get rid of. Bartenders are laid-back and can put a drink to a face -- I rolled in after not being there for 6 months and they had it poured before I could say hi. The late-great Joe is adorned on a small canvas above the windows and REAL!? wood paneling on the east wall. Soft orangish-red neon illuminates most of the saloon, glowing up from behind wood molding - Not an ideal lighting plan, but almost accidentally the PERFECT lighting level. The bar isn't really a "kept secret" at all -- housed in a stand-alone building with all-season Christmas lights framing the peaked roof, it's not that hard to spot. That said, it owes a lot of its odd mix of clientele to it's location. People that roll into Joe's aren't there on accident. The south side of the street is a vast empty expanse that used to be a massive train depot for the nearby quarry, and the north side of the street is an industrial/9-to-5 business strip where even the liquor store closes early. Now that I've played the alcoholic sociologist, lemmie posit that the out-of-the-way-ness of the bar directly contributes to what kind of people come through the door -- people that specifically left the house to be at Joe's. Aside from College Break overspill (Easter, Spring Break, Winter Break), there's always a place to sit and rarely an loudmouth over-served coed to scowl at. This place can be blue collar, no collar, and popped collar at different times of the day (and if a sporting event is on). There's live music for a cover sometimes, but nothing too consistent. There's a terrific Quizzo once a month, though the questions skew towards the 40-something locals that attend and run the quiz. (One standard category is called "Where are you in the Western Suburbs", another was "Local TV News Anchors".) But, you're there for the experience anyway, so, whatev. While other locals are living past glories with their gym teachers at Kenny's, avoiding eye-contact with old flames at Palmer's or packing it in at local cavern-turned-Irish-bar Brixie's, what filters through to Joe's are the low-key neighborhood joes of all ages looking to sit back, drink, play Meatloaf on the jukebox and maybe play a round or two of Word Dojo.
