Brookfield has a few bars. It only has a couple that are any good. Pub 78 is one of these. Just a quick walk away from the train station, making this a nice pit stop for a few drinks and some basic bar food. The prices are pretty good and you get a lot. Along the way back I felt like stopping at a local bar. It was a good choice. This is a pretty chill place. Has a pretty spacious interior. There's a few slots and plenty of TVs. Prices are good. They always have a few specials. Domestic beers were on special that night. It was $3 a bottle, and they had some other specials. Food is about what you expect. There's burgers, and shareables like the Pretzel. It's $8 for a big ass. The bread soaks up alcohol, so you can hang out here longer and knock back a few more. Good local hangout with better than expected food. It's a nice place if getting back from the zoo and looking for cheaper alternatives to the food they have. The beer is the main thing but try some food including those big ass pretzels. read more

Was recently here for a retirement party... Great Atmosphere/Great Service and very pleased with the food.

I just moved to Brookfield from LP last May. I absolutely love my neighbors, the downtown shops and restaurants and the fun bars. I'm literally walking distance from downtown. Saturday we went for a bite to eat early 6pm, when we walked in we went to a high top and realized the all were reserve. not a problem. we turned to sit at the bar and the owner/manager yells at me from the other end of the bar "all the bar stools are reserved, standing room only" I was so taken back by her I stopped and pushed the stool back in and realized there were reserved signs across the entire bar. Literally nowhere to go and maybe 5 people in the place. I walked out with my friends disappointed. Someone right then was struggling to get in the door with equipment (the band) I held the door and said have a good night. This is not the first time this has happened. I'm a patron like everyone else you can't call to make a reservation so what gives? I will avoid going and let people know as well. read more

We go here once in a while for the open mic, and have found the owners, patrons and performers to be friendly and welcoming. I just wish it weren't so far from where we live. read more

My husband and I are really trying to support local businesses during COVID. We had Pub 78 last night and the food was really unremarkable. I had an Italian Beef. I asked for it dipped with hot peppers. It wasn't dipped. They did give me an jus on the side but it just didn't cut it. The fries were not good. My husband had a Rueben with pastrami. Again unremarkable. They gave u a side of coleslaw - I make better coleslaw at home. The only redeeming quality in this meal was the pickle. The pickles are fantastic. If you are looking for a great pickle - go to Pub 78. If you are looking for a great meal - go somewhere else. read more

Another Brookfield pub that is absolutely welcome to the neighborhood. Whereas this took over Grand Tavern, they bring a new life to the old establishment with a closeness of patrons not always seen with other bars. The one time I had visited included a fundraiser for suicide awareness. Most excellent, as this is a very important topic to stress upon. The evening included live music and raffles. Nice touch. My favorite part of the evening being the instrument multi-tasker whom was able to play just about anything, including the harmonica. I'm always a sucker for the ability to play musical instruments. Draft beer is very inexpensive, I believe $3 or $3.50 for a pint of Miller Lite. Me likie. I would appreciate more options, but this is definitely a middle class come as you are type of bar. I should know, I reside in the area. Star the bartender was absolutely the star of the night. She was courteous, kind, and lovely to be around. Overall, a welcome establishment in B-field. I went to Pub 78 today after seeing all of their reviews on social media and voy was it good. We were starving so we didn't get to take pictures. We ordered the Cuban, the Pub sandwich and the grilled cheese. The portions are filling and just the right size. Great price point too. I love their fries and the cole slaw, a secret family recipe is the best I have had. They also had boozy shakes. And oh.my.word. I had the White Russian and my friend had the peanut butter and chocolate. They were just what we needed. So the next time you go to Zoo City do yourself a favor and get yourself a boozy shake. read more

Sometimes you just happen to find THE place. Last night I just happened to find Pub 78. We wanted a bite after hitting the range . We took a stab and decided to try a new place. We walked in and the place was spotless, Well lit, and that neighborhood friendly feel. As I said it was late and we wanted a bite... Jen one of the owners had just shut down the grill. She started the grill back up and made our order .. a hamburger with fries and made in the kitchen fresh potato chips. The food was restaurant quality ... GOOD restaurant quality. Coming here just for the food would be understandable. However.. the bar staff was very friendly, professional and creative with their mixed drinks. The patrons were a friendly fun group. Awesome addition to the area! The space is totally redone and spotless. TVs all around, jukebox and large bar with great service. It's a soft opening so no food yet, but can't wait to come back to eat. (hint - there's going to be a fried pretzel on the menu!) read more

Fun place for locals and people to drink and sing in a very tiny room!

They just opened up. New owners. The staff was very friendly and attentive especially Elizabeth. The day I went their she greeted me right away when i walk in. Offered me a seat and a menu. Very nice personality. The owner I believe a blonde hair lady. Seemed like she had an attitude from the moment I walk in. Made me feel uncomfortable. Don't know what was with her but I could tell she was drunk and attitude . I dont know what was said to the bartender . But the owner started yelling at the bartender and to my eyes very disrespectful to Elizabeth.. To the point where she left. You should never yell at your staff no matter what... Unfortunately o'Neill never go back again.. read more

New local grub and pub. Took over the old Grand Tavern space. Menu is basic but what they have they do well. Beer selection is ok. Hopefully will expand to include some local brews. read more

Wife and I went there close to 11pm on a Friday night for some beers. Place was kinda dead. My wife had to use the washroom and she said the place looked trashed and filthy. No toilet paper and the sink was coming off the wall. The rest of the bar looked identical to how it was when it was run as Grand Tavern. Not sure how they expect to revive a business that failed by changing nothing. Hopefully things get better in the future. read more

I really like this place. The food is really good and priced right. The burger was cooked perfect and was delicious. Really good fries too. Chimichanga was awesome. Service has been great, the place is spotless (including the restrooms). Music is generally classic rock, which I like and it's not too loud so you can easily talk. Bunch of TV's with sports or music videos going. The downside and upside, depending on what you want, is the place is relatively dead. I can only attribute it to people not knowing what a little gem this bar is. I think the outside entrance is lacking in appearance and people don't bat an eye at it. I found this place while walking down the street and peeked in the window one night. I think there's a fear people have, if they can't see into an place, they won't try it. If your looking for an alternative to your usual hangout, open the door, walk in and grab a beer, nice people. read more
