    Shepherds Pie

This is a nice, little bar with limited parking in front of the restaurant. I suppose if it got busier, you could find some free street parking close by. I would say this Irish pub is more like fusion, based on the food menu. We decided to get corn beef bites, garlic bread, shepherd's pie, and chicken pot pie. The service was good, our waitress was very attentive. Food came out fast and hot. Portion sizes are more than adequate. Prices were fair. Corn beef bites were delicious, they're bigger than one bite unless you stuff it all in your mouth. Good size swiss cheese and corn beef slices. Make sure you use the horseradish sauce. Garlic bread was okay, it could use more garlic and butter. I felt like it was tasteless. Shepherd's pie was very cheesy. The minced beef was very flavorful and moist. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were also tasty. The chicken pot pie was way bigger than I imagined. The crust was flaky and golden brown. Texture was very creamy. Chicken was very tender. Definitely recommend getting everything except for the garlic bread.

Rafferty's has a great local, casual vibe with a welcome fireplace to sit by in the winter. We started with fried pickle chips as an appetizer. The batter was perfectly seasoned and crisp served with a generous portion of ranch dressing. We shared the fish and chips which had ample chips and two healthy pieces of battered fish filets. Service was good but unfortunately she over charged us for a drink which was corrected after we pointed the issue out. Overall, a great local joint for a relaxing and delicious dinner.

I nearly missed reviewing this place... back in April I had just arrived from a horribly long overseas flight. My friends were kind enough to take me to this pub for some dinner and we were pleased at our food and dining experience. When you walk in you are met with traditional Irish decor, and a lovely fireplace in the dining area. Very welcoming and clean. I liked it immediately. Heather H. waited on us and was very friendly and helpful with making some dinner suggestions. It is a very cute interior and warm environment. My friends got Guiness of course and I was pleased to see they had a surprisingly good selection of white wine, so I opted for a glass of the Joel Gott sauvignon blanc ($9.25). I was starving and got the Wild Alaskan blackened salmon ($19.95) MM MMM with a side Salad and OH YES house made blue cheese dressing to die for. Very generous portion of fish, perfectly cooked. My friends shared a basket of crinkle cut fries ($5), curry sauce ($3.50) and Irish sausage ($6), plus Southwest Chicken Egg Rolls ($7.95). The food and drinks are very reasonably priced, and the food is really good. The dinner menu has a very impressive selection, a little bit of everything.

    Caprice Burger - YUM!

When visiting friends recently, we went to Rafferty's for an early dinner. It's one of their local go-tos. Rafferty's checked all my boxes for a great dining-in-a-bar experience. The place is not too large, but even with a nearly full bar and many dining tables occupied, the place was cozy without feeling overcrowded. Tables are well-spaced. The fireplace added to the intimate vibe. One thing I was a huge fan of is the fact that they played lively music but it was not overpowering in volume. Prices were great. I think my caprese burger was just under $12. FYI, I tried to remind myself of the price by looking at their online menu this morning - those menu prices are outdated (at least the price for my burger was not current). My friend is a huge fan of their blackened chicken alfredo. I sampled it and agree it was tasty. My husband went with the shepherd's pie and enjoyed it a lot. Our server was upbeat and dropped in on us often to check on our drinks. We really hope to visit Rafferty's again in the future!

We biked to Rafferty's for lunch and we will definitely be back. Service was quick, outside seating was nice, and there were sooooo many things on the menu that sounded great. We ended up going with a caprese burger and the Cajun chicken wrap. The wrap was just perfect, the blackened chicken had perfect flavor and was juicy (sometimes blackened chicken can be too salty, too smoky or dried out). The burger was big and flavorful with tomatoes balsamic and mozzarella on top. For sides we had sweet potato fries and tots, both were perfectly cooked and fresh. We will definitely be back to try some of the other choices on the menu! I just wish there was a crosswalk and a walk signal coming off the bike path on Brainard.

This is my favorite neighborhood watering hole. Hands down. Big horseshoe bar. Classic pub but with windows and light and even a deck. The head bartenders are always there (and they've been there forever), they know everyone, and they're always happy to see you. They pour Guinness impeccably. High tops and low tops. Fireplace for the winter. One of the best patty melts i've ever had. Worth every one of the 1,000(?) calories. Get it with a side of thousand island...why not?!?

Jim-may, my man! Nice place ya got here buddy…read more I was seeking a bar that was roughly halfway between Oak Park & Orland Park (meeting someone, heh heh), and I happened to stumble upon this über-divey treasure. Miller Lite was the only beer they had on tap, but you could get a bucket of it for like a nickel. Hyperbole? Maybe. A 60oz pitcher of the classic domestic swill cost only $5, which is pretty damn tough to beat if you ask me. Liz behind the bar was super friendly and introduced herself not long after I sat down. Once my +1 arrived, Liz was nice enough to make a bag of popcorn that she gave us to munch on. Talk about being given a warm reception! They don't accept Discover and have a $10 minimum on credit card purchases, but for a small operation like this it's to be expected, so I can't fault them for that. Some of the barstools are a teensy bit ripped-up, although in a dive bar setting like this, I find that they truly 'complete the look'. Great homey feel and a jukebox loaded with tons of tunes for 50¢ or a dollar per song. They've got billiards tables and a few slot machines that I imagine get a lot of play from their 'regulars'. They also feature Karaoke on select nights of the week. There's a very tasteful piece of nude art behind the bar, which I'm told is a painted portrait of someone who works there. Being a big fan of all things naked people, I found this to be a nice touch amidst the cans of Old Style and half-empty Smirnoff bottles. ....and unless I'm mistaken, I definitely met/talked to/received free shots from *the* Jimmy of said namesake bar. His taste in Huey Lewis & The News (along with his great taste in hats) didn't go unnoticed. He was hilarious and insisted that I stick around for a while [keep in mind this was at 11pm on a Wednesday], but I had to decline. Lyons is generally off my radar, but for the way I was greeted and taken care of at this establishment, I'd not hesitate for a second to stop back in, if I were to be in the area again.

Our waitress checked on us numerous times and kept things going. The food is where I have to say, this place was OK. There are a lot of vegetarian options, so that is a great start for me and my crew. Pizza, black bean burgers, etc. I think the nachos were pretty decent. One main ingredient I'd say they were missing was beans, guac, or even salsa. I guess we could have asked for some, but we didn't. Then we had a hummus platter, which came with a bunch of dipping veggies and some pita bread. Nicely presented, and the hummus was fine. The margarita pizza was decent as well. Crispy and all. And finally, the black bean burger, which we substituted in for the El Diablo burger. It was fine. We didn't leave any room for dessert as all of the above was already a LOT. Again, overall fun times.

The restaurant has a classic old-school Italian supper club vibe. The staff is very friendly, and the owner, Joe, is almost always there greeting guests with a warm smile and a handshake, which adds a nice personal touch. We sat at the bar and were immediately acknowledged by Gia, who has served us before and always provides great service. She took our drink order and returned shortly afterward to take our food order. My wife ordered a 9" thin crust pizza topped with cheese, sausage, tomatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms. She said it was one of the best pizzas she has ever had. The crust was thin and crispy without being overcooked, and all of the toppings were fresh and flavorful. I started with the fried smelt appetizer. The lightly battered smelts were cooked to a perfect golden brown. The light breading allowed the flavor of the fish to really come through, and the house tartar sauce complemented them nicely. For my entrée, I ordered the corned beef and cabbage dinner special, which is available throughout the month of March. The dinner includes Parker House rolls (which could be a meal in themselves) and a choice of soup or salad. I chose the tomato bisque. The soup was creamy with a rich tomato flavor and small pieces of tomato throughout. It was easily the best tomato bisque I have ever had. The corned beef arrived nicely trimmed and had a great, hearty beef flavor without being dry. It was served with a cabbage wedge and sliced carrots. I appreciated that the vegetables remained slightly firm while still absorbing the flavor from the corned beef. I also requested a side of creamy horseradish sauce, which paired perfectly with the dish. Overall, we had a truly great experience and are already looking forward to our next visit.
