It's the perfect hangover burger: simple, juicy, and served with just a side of chips. Sometimes less is more, and they nail it. My only small gripe is that they don't serve bacon or offer many topping options, but honestly, the burger is so good it barely matters. Whether you're grabbing a late-night bite or recovering the next day, this place always hits the spot.

My friends and I have stayed away from here due to rude staff, riff raff, fights, etc. in the last several years. We decided to give them a try a week ago as we were assured by another patron that it was under new ownership. The new owners supposedly cleaned house and removed all the previous troublesome staff. Everything seemed to have improved from our visit here a week ago, but that's because Michelle was not there. We had zero issues with the staff that day, we were served without issue, and overall we thought the renovations were an improvement. The prices have gone up but they have added premium beverages to their selection. Unfortunately, Michelle was not included in the staff overhaul, and mistreated my friend during a recent visit. It is a real shame that The Cordial Inn continues to have problem bartenders, because this place *used* to be a gem. It's now a far cry from cordial. The interior renovations are not worth it for any of us to tolerate disrespectful behavior from bar staff. I am beyond offended that the new owners allow the bar staff to treat customers badly. There are plenty of other choices in the area, and my choice is to spend my money where the staff appreciate my money and patronage.

You can also order your own party food to the bar! Jim was so nice. He helped us set up and take down. He and the other bartender were quick behind the bar so no one ever waited long for a drink. We had about 40-50 people and the party room was a great size! 100% recommend Slagers for the easiest party ever.

It's the only place we could find on Yelp that had some kind of bar food around the area, and since we were all "starving" we decided to check it out. There are only about 9 items on the menu, and we decided to order about 8. Haha It's all bar food and between 6 hungry adults, we devoured everything on our table. My favorite and most memorable item on the menu were the corn fritters. The best way to describe it is smashed up corn, battered and fried up. SO GOOD! We each had 2 beers each, their selection wasn't that great but they had Blue Moon and Anti-Hero, which we stuck to. It's a dive bar, small, cozy and I'm sure that's where all the locals hang out. They have quite a few TV's and there is some betting machines in there too. By the time we left, around 9pm, our bill came out to around $60 including tip. WOW! Now that's what I'm talking about! Cheap drinks and good food.

Unplanned stop here but what a welcome surprise on a winter evening at this neighborhood pub that hits the sweet spot somewhere between "watering hole" and restaurant . Lively and cozy, "Livozy" (oh yes I did just coin that) is the best descriptor for this cool little pub right across from a commuter rail stop. Very decent selection on tap. The crowd is mostly local and very friendly. The tenders crushed it in terms of friendliness and efficient professionalism. Zubar has figured out that if you deliver a satisfying experience at very reasonable prices--good value, you will ensure return customers--again and again. (As an aside though, it is a bit of a shame Zubar has not "claimed" this Yelp page projecting the "we're too cool (they are) who cares" vibe but there's a lot of good vibe coming there way...I'll bet they peek anyway.)

Even those not going to the zoo can enjoy it. This is right off the Metra zoo stop, and I'm wondering how many times I can mention the zoo in this review, maybe 20 times or so. A convenient stop along the Metra gets you here. It's almost seriously there as soon as you get off. This is obviously located on the way to the Brookfield Zoo. It makes a pretty good stop when coming back from walking around. This is pretty much just a little bar with drinks and slots. It's about $5 for a simple cocktail. There's basic liquor. Good place to hang after walking around the zoo and needing to get a drink. It doesn't seem to have food anymore but you can bring some in. There's also entertainment like a jukebox and pool table.
