Pretty nice dive bar--it's got an older crowd until about 9pm, and then it becomes a banging night spot. Karaoke is great--solid mix of people (it's on Thursday nights as of 2024)--and while the DJ is terrific, I've never been to karaoke that wasn't tip-to-skip before here. Always tip your DJs and bartenders, but just keep it in mind. The whole joint gets so crowded that you're not gonna get more than two songs in. read more

This is one of our stops for our annual ugly Christmas sweater bar crawl and we always have a good time here. We came the first week of December about 6 pm on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Only downside is that there isn't much seating if you do have a larger group. We call ahead so the bartenders expect our group and they're always prepared. One of the bartenders has long curly dark hair and she's awesome! She was very attentive to our group and and was lively behind the bar. She was flipping bottles and catching them while making our drinks, just overall a great bartender. Prices are incredible by the way. I think our mixed drinks were $6 or $7 and they were strong! This is a dive bar and you get the full dive bar feel in the best way when you're here. The decor around the holidays makes it feel extra cozy. They randomly were passing out green balloons at one point!? We had a bunch of fun. There's dart boards and even karaoke on some nights! The location is very convenient, steps away from the Metra train! Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a fun night. read more

Oh my JEEZUS, I have been sick all day and night. They did not have Long Islands so the bartender said she would make me her speciality. I don't know what the bartender put in her "speciality" drink but I was throwing up for TWO HOURS last night, I couldn't even sit in the car - I had to sit on the ground in a parking lot for an hour. They closed around midnight and I didn't get home till 3 b/c I had severe motion sickness and I could not go anywhere. it's 4:30 in the afternoon and I am still in bed and all I had the one drink and a shot of patron, I have been drinking for years and have never felt this level of sick. I don't know what was in the drink but I'm going to assume it was death b/c that's how I feel. read more

Nice enough neighborhood bar with karaoke (which is what I went for). But I paid $5 for a Mike's Hard Lemonade, which I thought was CRAZY. For like another buck or two, I could have bought myself a six pack and sang at home. :P They're right off the tracks, so it's a good option if you don't have a D.D. The bartenders were nice enough and pretty quick. I didn't like this place as much as the Pot Bell but can't really say why. It was ..pleasant. but somehow off. Which isnt always what you wnat in a divey good time. It's really loud in there and can't imagine how they could have a band in there and be able to hear the next day. And the people in there were ... odd. The owner himself tried to intimidate me to leave his bar while talking junk with my friends. I could see how he might think we or I am trouble but we were quiet and keeping to ourselves. Guy goes easy way or hard way so I ask what the hard way is..apparently the hard way is calling his buddies at the pd to remove normal paying customers that he doesn't like. He said he's got no use for people that bring no one else in. Gave two friends the address tonight to meet me. You're welcome old man. Was curious to explore a new place for a Sunday morning cocktail. When I call I was greeted by the rudest most impolite person I have ever have the misfortune of talking to. I simply wanted to know if I was able to get a beverage around 10am the response was "yes that's what we do at bars" as a result I chose to visit and have my beverage. My boyfriend and I just moved to Westmont on my 21st birthday on Sunday 9/8. We have been wanted to explore downtown Westmont, and we wandered into Uptown on Thursday night (9/12) and found that it was karaoke night! It was pretty busy, but we got 2 seats at the bar and the bartender made us both awesome Vegas Bombs! Then we met Michelle, and she was awesome!! There's bartenders, then there are BARTENDERS! Michelle was so sweet and treated us very well for my birthday night out and she seriously ROCKS at her job! The Uptown will now be frequent for us! Can't wait to go back!! This is seriously as good as it gets in Westmont, IL. Where else could you find: recent WHS graduate townies, creepy 50-year-old drunkards and crazy suburbanites celebrating birthdays because there's no where else to go? The Uptown of course!!! This place has been in Westmont for... years. I'm pretty sure some of the customers have been in there since 1971 - I mean the entire time since that year. Most of the people inside on a "regular night" are three sheets to the wind by 10. I think we all thought it would be the greatest moment ever when we would finally be old enough to visit the Uptown. And boy were we right. The night that we visited was filled with drunken insanity - not on our part. There were crazy old people celebrating a birthday, the same old crazy drunk regulars and us - the weird 20somethings. It was seriously the most hysterical night of all nights. The bar itself is actually not as gross or crusty as I had always imagined. The staff take good care of the place and, even though it's a dive, it's still a pretty good place to hang out and have a cheap beer. There's plenty of tables and room at the bar, arcade games (including Golden Tee!) and some snack food if you're so inclined (chips, peanuts and the like). Reading these reviews makes me thing someone is punking me. This place is a pit. I love dive bars and all but come on! This place is right across from the train station so it's super convenient right after getting off the train. But it is totally a "regulars" place. When you walk in they know you aren't one and they almost make you feel like you've stumbled into one of their secret meetings. I always feel like I'm going to have to put on some white platforms and "Pee-Wee Herman" my way out of there. And I don't want to talk bad about the clientele, but yikes! I wanted a fun dive bar to break my corporate traveler routine...and found Uptown! :) We made the Westin shuttle driver take us here and he looked as us like we were crazy...but when he picked us up at 1:30am and saw our drunken smiles as we asked him to take us to White Castle for some late night munchies -- and he knew we got the good time we asked for at Uptown. Cheap drinks, darts, several arcade games, friendly bartender (shout out to Michelle!), and a liquor cabinet for to-go purchases = purely awesome! Amazing. I grew up in Westmont, very near the Uptown and I always wondered at this small, dark, mysterious place. We jokedfor several years about hving our first legal drinks at the Uptown, mingling with the townies and taking in the small town, old person bar environment. I'm a rather new face to the Uptown. It's a good little bar though, eclectic tastes. You can hear anything from Patsy Cline and Frank Sinatra, to Pantera, to some electronic dance stuff I have never even heard of before. Michelle is tops. She's one of the best bartenders I have ever met. I always.. I repeat I *always* drink Woodchuck Cider, and some form of Cognac, generally, Grand Marnier. After one lone, singular visit, she had my drinks down pat. I may have to wait a little bit of time between drinks, but she, and all the bar staff really, perform admirably, and they appreciate the patience. If you're patient, respectful, and all around not an arse, then she will treat you right. I cannot stress enough, how awesome their bar staff is, with Michelle leading the pack. As a new resident to Downers Grove, I have found two bars I like within walking distance of my home. They are Ballydoyle's and Uptown, with Uptown being the top place. It really reminds me of some of the bars I used to frequent back home. Michelle, PT, and the rest of the Uptown crew, Deuce says keep up that damned good work, and let the haters hate. Hesitant to review because it's nice that this place is a well kept secret from some of the snobbier residents of Naperville and Downers. Located near the westmont train station this dive bar is a warm call back to a grittier more fun bar scene. The bar tenders are fun and crazy, in a good way. And the crowd is always incredibly friendly. I didn't grow up in this neighborhood but every time I go I make a new friend. This place rocks, it's like cheers on a vodka Red Bull. read more

I live a few blocks away but do not frequent this place enough to be a "regular" and that's how I like it. You never know what you will see at Uptown. The bar regulars are a very diverse mix of laborers, young adults, gamblers, and day drinkers. The Bartenders will help you get the buzz you are striving for by always asking you if you'd like another. Every night this dive has something going on; jam sessions, karaoke, and local music legends. Try to stop in where Pistol Pete is playing. Their prices may be a few bucks higher than neighboring bar Potbelly, but the lively and strange atmosphere is worth it. They typically have 1-2 craft beers on tap; that's it. They always have a cheap beer options and offer take away packaged goods. Perfect for grabbing something cold to go, on your way to the Metra stop located directly in front of the bar. The first one was horrible and she insisted that she will retry it. The second try was a little bit better but i felt bad wasting all that Jameson so I just sucked it up and drank it. We came in here with 18 people on a train at crawl. Everything was great until a new bartender came on shift. She accused my group for of smoking pot in the bathroom and then proceeded to kick people out and treat everyone in my party like we were she involved regardless of the fact that we had no involvement. Full disclosure: I've been coming here pretty regularly for a pretty long time. -Michelle is awesome. I'm at a point now where I don't order my drink; I drink what she gives me - and it's usually something awesome. Let her know what you like, and she can mix up something great. -Prices are awesome. -It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that caters mostly to regulars. Everyone has always been super friendly there, to me. -The ladies' room has always been clean - this is important to me. -Karaoke night is actually awesome. I'm not a singer, but I enjoy the show. -They do breast cancer fundraisers on occasion - I like that they support a good cause. -Keep clear of the corner of the bar closest to the front, against the wall - that's where the trash can goes for bottles, and if someone doesn't see you there and throws one... not a good surprise. -They have darts, an array of board games, a jukebox, and a lotto machine. -You can buy your cigarettes, and "take out" booze here. -They have a decent selection of snacks - like Combos, chips, and stuff - as well as beef jerky and a small pizza oven for simple pizzas. Very simple, cheap bar food. -There are hooks under most of the bar; hang your purse or coat right where you're sitting :) -When a dance party breaks out, watch out! The bar is small, but the cheaps are drink and compared to the other town bar in downtown Westmont this place is less threatening. many towns have a rink a dink bar like this.
