The atmosphere was very "we're better than you," which is ambitious considering half the room looked genetically connected to famine survivors and dock workers. The confidence level in that building deserves scientific study. I walked in expecting casual dining and somehow ended up in what felt like an audition for "Medieval Lords of the Suburbs." The staff acted like they were protecting ancient bloodlines instead of refilling ranch dressing. At one point I honestly wanted to ask: "Sir, are you judging me... while wearing a polo shirt with barbecue sauce on it?" The energy was aggressively holier-than-thou for a place where the main cultural contribution is fried appetizers and vodka seltzer. To be fair, the food was fine. But the side of racial superiority was a little harassing for my ego. If you're looking for a place to drink with historic levels of racism and naturally redheaded bartenders, this is the place for you!

Nice place ya got here buddy…read more I was seeking a bar that was roughly halfway between Oak Park & Orland Park (meeting someone, heh heh), and I happened to stumble upon this über-divey treasure. Miller Lite was the only beer they had on tap, but you could get a bucket of it for like a nickel. Hyperbole? Maybe. A 60oz pitcher of the classic domestic swill cost only $5, which is pretty damn tough to beat if you ask me. Liz behind the bar was super friendly and introduced herself not long after I sat down. Once my +1 arrived, Liz was nice enough to make a bag of popcorn that she gave us to munch on. Talk about being given a warm reception! They don't accept Discover and have a $10 minimum on credit card purchases, but for a small operation like this it's to be expected, so I can't fault them for that. Some of the barstools are a teensy bit ripped-up, although in a dive bar setting like this, I find that they truly 'complete the look'. Great homey feel and a jukebox loaded with tons of tunes for 50¢ or a dollar per song. They've got billiards tables and a few slot machines that I imagine get a lot of play from their 'regulars'. They also feature Karaoke on select nights of the week. There's a very tasteful piece of nude art behind the bar, which I'm told is a painted portrait of someone who works there. Being a big fan of all things naked people, I found this to be a nice touch amidst the cans of Old Style and half-empty Smirnoff bottles. ....and unless I'm mistaken, I definitely met/talked to/received free shots from *the* Jimmy of said namesake bar. His taste in Huey Lewis & The News (along with his great taste in hats) didn't go unnoticed. He was hilarious and insisted that I stick around for a while [keep in mind this was at 11pm on a Wednesday], but I had to decline. Lyons is generally off my radar, but for the way I was greeted and taken care of at this establishment, I'd not hesitate for a second to stop back in, if I were to be in the area again.

My favorite and most memorable item on the menu were the corn fritters. The best way to describe it is smashed up corn, battered and fried up. SO GOOD! We each had 2 beers each, their selection wasn't that great but they had Blue Moon and Anti-Hero, which we stuck to. It's a dive bar, small, cozy and I'm sure that's where all the locals hang out. They have quite a few TV's and there is some betting machines in there too. By the time we left, around 9pm, our bill came out to around $60 including tip. WOW! Now that's what I'm talking about! Cheap drinks and good food.

I travel all the way from Blue Island, Illinois because I appreciate the atmosphere, camaraderie, and overall ambiance here--it's by far my favorite location. Unfortunately, during this visit, the experience fell short. The bartender, Ariel, did not make us feel welcome. My uncle was overlooked when trying to order a drink, and my aunt was hungry but unable to get assistance. After waiting and feeling ignored, we decided to leave and go to another bar. That said, I've noticed the level of service here can be inconsistent depending on the day or staff. Some visits have been great, while others haven't met the same standard, which is disappointing given how much I enjoy this place. I truly want to continue supporting this location, but consistency in service would make a big difference. For now, I may limit my visits to Wednesdays, as those experiences have consistently been positive.

The beer is the main thing but try some food including those big ass pretzels.
