I had a baked haddock dinner here last night for less than $15 includiing a non-alcoholic drink. The meal included about 10ounces of perfectly cooked haddock (topped with crumbs that were browned but not scorched) with two side dishes. I selected the rice and tossed salad for sides. The food arrived quickly along with the food for the other three people who were dining with me. One of my friends had a fried clam dinner with french fries and onion rings that she loved too. It's easy to get to from Boston via the Teddy Tunnel with parking close to the entrance. We will be back. read more

Nick's Steak and Cheese is the standard by which I judge all other Steak and Cheese / Cheesesteaks by. I've been enjoying them since around 1983 or so because that's where my Dad and his employees went for lunch a few times a week. Their other food is good as well, but I go to Nicks for the subs and the buffalo wings (yum!). Pizza is okay.. nothing special but good value. There are better choices for just pizza, but Nicks usually wins my order due to the overall choices/quality. Buffalo Wings.. yum. The move to the old Micky Dee's building was great. It's amazing the crowd that they pull in there nightly. The McD's drivethru window is one of those "why didn't anyone else ever think of this" ideas. It's SUPER to be on the way home in the car, call ahead about 15 minutes out, and pick up dinner on the way home, all without leaving the car! I'm not a fan of noise while eating (super understatement). I'm never going to eat-in here. The noise is incredible at times. Right after school lets out it's darn near implausible. If noise doesn't bother you, then this place is full of life (and teenaged drama). Between the fast delivery and drive thru pickup window there's no need to eat in anyhow. The thing to remember about ordering here is that they are BUSY BUSY BOYS and GIRLS and you will need to confirm your order or risk them screwing it up. They're all highschoolish girls usually with a line 5 deep on the other side of the counter (all of whom are screaming at each other.. cocktail party effect) They can be a bit brisk on the phone, but you're calling to place an order, not chitchat. When I order I say one thing at a time, and have them confirm it each item. I'll have a Small Steak Bomb. Ok, small Steak Fries. No, Small .. Steak .. BOMB! Food is great. I'm a regular. Any supporting function however such as counter girls and delivery boys are less than desirable. To call in an order my blood pressure usually raises 20 points and delivery boys normally forget at least the drink. If management could get the young careless staff to pay a little more attention a fifth star would emerge. read more

I've lived in Winthrop all my life and Nicks has been a part of it. They always had fast friendly service no matter how busy they were. Their food was great and a Winthrop mainstay. Now, it's a mess with sub par food and lousy service. The employees are surely and sarcastic to customers when they mess up orders or when orders aren't ready. I've been overcharged twice and the pizza on Monday specials has shrunk making it no longer special. The last time I got a steak and cheese is was a greedy mess and when I mentioned it I got attitude from the counter person. Three times I've had issues and brought it to their attention and in all three instances i got passive aggressive attitude. It's sad because Nicks used to be the best. This place doesnt even deserve any stars. I heard about the food spoiling not to long ago and it made me feel sick to my stomach knowing about all the times ive eaten in there. The cleanliness deserves a Zero, its absolutly filthy in there. Their employees are rude as rude can be. We got food poisoning from Nick's on 15August-baked haddock dinner and steak tips,Greek salad-sharp stomach pain,diarrhea,24 hrs of lethargy. It's sad. Nick's used to be one of my favorite places to order. Ever since they moved, years ago, it's gone done hill. The large subs are the size of small subs now, smaller amounts of food are in the sandwiches, and their prices increased. Because it's a small town and they are in a great location, people continue to go there. It's like what most of these reviews have said, the management is rude and there's no customer service. Nicks is in an old converted McDonalds, it is a cross between a pizza place and a sit down restaurant, with a huge menu that you would never think of finding on a menu for a small pizza joint, such things as Lamb Shanks, a variety of steaks and other faire. The food here is consistent and not bad, the pizza is very well done and the Italian subs are quite enjoyable. I would recommend trying out this restaurant but suggest takeout, the food is more enjoyable at home then in the restaurant. I am giving the restaurant 3 stars based on the food, the atmosphere is nothing special at all and the service is worse. The counter help is usually always friendly, but the last time we ate in the restaurant the food was delivered to the table by a young woman that obviously did not like her job or was having the worst day of her life as the food was pretty much just thrown down on the table and she stormed away. Two weeks ago I order a BLT Club sandwich from Nick's Place the food was great until I started eating my thin fries and saw a piece of long hair in my food and I threw it out and also I called back to talk to the manager to get my money back and he said next time you call back and order the same thing then you get your money back in my opinion I should not have to call back and order the same thing just to get my money back and he also said this to me all the workers wear hair nets and in my opinion he was lying to me because if his workers were wearing hair nets I won't have a piece of long hair in my food and the following day I called the Winthrop Health Department to put in a complaint about the long hair in my food from Nick's Place. read more

First off it took an hour and twenty minutes from the time I ordered me food until the time I got my order at my house. I live maybe a 5 minute ride away. We got a BLT sandwich and it had more mayo than anything else. The chicken kabob salad was horrible the chicken was beyond dry even my dog wouldn't eat it. The hamburger dinner was dry the fries were cold and the onion rings were horrible. The large roast beef was sopping in sauce and I asked for light sauce. Such an absolute waste of almost $50 plus tip if you value your hard earned money go somewhere else to enjoy your food because the prices are ridiculous for the quality you pay for. I love Nick's. Of all the places that deliver to me in Revere, Nick's is probably my favorite. The salads are really good! I'm on a low carb diet so that's pretty much the only thing I can eat when I get takeout. And lets face it; takeout salads are not usually good. Well....they are at Nick's! The grilled chicken (any flavor) that they put on is so moist and almost shreddable. The dressings are all homemade and quite yummy. My go to place for crowd pleasing takeout. First- no lie, they have the LARGEST STAFF I've ever seen. Think about it... an ARMY of people producing fast and delectable food. I'm in heaven. Second- portions are HUGE. Enough to share Nicks entree with friends. Finally- Food. Yum. We are downright spoiled to have a sub-shop like this. This place is great! They are open late and their food is always good. I highly recommend the Buffalo Calzone.

My roommate and I order from Nick's pretty regularly. We almost always order delivery but have also picked up a few times. The food always arrives quickly and as ordered. It's just your standard pizza and subs, but the prices and the food are both pretty good. My one complaint is that the driver will sometimes call and just say he is outside rather than bringing the food to the door (we live on the first floor!) This place mass produces garbage food. It USED to be great but now their quality has gone down the toilet. Roast beef was OK at best but the bun was stale and cheese wasn't even melted. They gave me plenty of fries... too bad they were cold. Their Fish is at a reasonable price but you get what you pay for, soggy, mediocre pieces of fish. Oh, and next time you're in there, save some money... The large sub is almost EXACTLY the same size as the small and Don't tip your cashier, the owner doesn't let them keep it... just throws it in with his earnings at the end of the day. read more

Oh my what a delight!! My son was directing a play nearby and we needed a place closeby before heading on to Nashua NH. My hubby and I had stopped in earlier for just a cup of coffee ( which the waitress made sure she fixed a fresh pot for me). I started to drool over the "Special Grill" lamb,chicken,beef and steak! Ive ordered from nicks for years. Some good experiences and some bad.great menu diversity,subs are good calzones are huge but heavy, and saturated in grease. anyways i placed an order online used abbreviations to specify my order.i waited 1 hr forty minutes,called them took another twenty minutes. after that food came cold and wrong. spoke with a manager he wanted to send new food no problem but at that point i just wanted my money back they came gave it back but seeing as it took hrs and the screwed up my order (and im a great tipper)and order frequently they could've made it right and said on the house I'm done with nicks.get the order right the first time and there wont be a problem,he said im sorry i didn't understand your abbreviations and my response i work in a restaurant and these are universal abbreviations. Why wouldn't you call if you were not sure he said i was too busy taking care of other customers. I said ok what am i? So thats that. If your going in for pickup your good delivery they tend to always screw something up. Which is fine if its made right but rarely ever is.the reasons im giving two stars and some of the food is good and reasonably priced.. The people are nice but delivery has always been horrible. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Let me start off by saying I worked in the food industry so I'm usually pretty easy going and understanding. I ordered my first meal of a haddock sandwich (delivery) and it came so over cooked I couldn't eat it. I spoke to the manager about it the following day and he said "the soda is on me" when I wanted to try the place again. Wow so generous (note the sarcasm). After bringing the issue to their attention I expected better. I ordered and 4 minutes later called back for honey mustard. I was told my food wouldn't be here for 30 minutes prior and then when I called back was told the driver had just left. So of course when my food got here my club sandwich was cold and sweet potato fries had been sitting so long they were cold and complete mush. If you like crappy service and cold mushy food then I say go for it. I will not be eating here again and advise you don't waste your money. They need better management that is for sure. read more

OK, I finally give up. After the last 6 times I have finally realized that this place is incapable of providing decent service. I always order the same thing so you would think they would get it. First of all they are rude when they first pick up the phone. You have to scream for them to hear you and repeat your order at least 3 times. They still don't get it right. Also, what has happened to the food? The chicken wings were breaded and fried - greasy and gross. Again they did not bring the blue cheese dressing! I got Italian. No surprise. At least this time it wasn't chicken fingers. I guess I screamed loud enough into the phone this time. The pizza was ok this time. Last time it barely had anything on it. We have been ordering from Nick's place for 15 years. It was always a pleasant experience until tonight. We were ordering like we usually do, but, this evening we had a woman with an Arabic accent, who was completely rude to us. Now do I care what accent this woman had nope!! But when I called back and voiced my disappointment, describing her as Arabic, I was told that "I" was the rude one. The manager said,"he didn't know who the woman was and I just said she has an Arabic accent...I mean it's common knowledge, so what. I mean how else am I suppose to describe her ? I told the young man, that's its cultural, and he asked, "what did I mean?" I guess he thought that was rude, because he himself didn't know what "cultural" meant. It's an academic term that's all. I suggested that she may not be the right person manning the phone, clearly she needs training on phone protocols. I did say that if this was an example of Nicks's phone service that people will not stand for rudeness. It's simple, but, my father owned a restaurant so my expectations are high. I'm a minority myself and if you heard me speaking Spanish then yes, I'm Hispanic. No issues but here we are doing what we love "Nick's pizza" only to be told that I was rude. Yet this woman was very rude to my friend by saying, we don't do chopped mushrooms.... and as PC goes it can't possible be her fault. I have many friends of all faiths, am very well travelled and went to a top Boston university . Actually, I was hurt by the managers response instead of being objective he choose to dismiss this workers rudeness. He lectured me that I had the problem and it really kinda stung a bit. This is the first time I've had someone who knows nothing about me lecture me. I'm so disappointed . I have so many Arabic friends. It's sad.
