Excellent Ice Cream! This is a nice, quaint neighborhood establishment that has been a fixture here for more than fifty years. The food is quite good--the menu is basic and what you'd expect for such a place. The inside dining area is small, with a few tables though there is more seating outside. I go here often and I recommend it to anyone looking for a great soft-serve ice cream or hotdog, hamburger. read more

Went to Nick's Nest for the first time today. Yelp reviews seemed ok so we had to check it out. Place was cute and quaint but the food was very disappointing. Hot dogs were bland and cold, the baked beans were sour and had no bbq flavor what so ever, and the chili cheese fries were soggy and tasted like they were straight out of the freezer. Disgusting! Sonic is WAY BETTER!! Go there instead... We ordered four hotdogs, an individual side of baked beans, and a large chili cheese fries, which totaled up to $27!! Ridiculous!! Never again! Would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family. read more

I am a sucker for these kind of charmy places! i usually hate hot dogs but these ones are perfect! theyre served in new england style buns and loaded with toppings - they dont cheap you on the product even though the price of the product is very cheap! the atmosphere is also very cool. The walls are covered with old fashioned random stuff which seems to be from the restraunts original opening (its really old)! its on a main street in Holyoke and can get pretty busy but theyre always real efficient and nice with the service. For all the chain burger places, there are no chain hot dog places and this is the only true hoe dog place in the area. Im surprised they never opened a second location because these are WAY better than Nathans! A smaller nicks nest in downtown springfield would do fantastic! Ive also never tried the beans but have heard theyre good and 9 out of 10 orders at this place include the beans, so they are certainly one of those "never tried but highly recommend" items. They also now serve ice cream for dessert! this is ONLY place i go if i am in holyoke and get hungry! It isnt THAT far from the mall and is easily worth the 10 minute drive! read more

I grew up in Holyoke MA. and Nicks was a respected place to get dogs. The food quality has declined and the prices are much to high. They are trading on their name now. Nick's Nest really does have THE best hot dogs around! You can't find hot dogs like them anywhere. Their milkshakes are also great and they now have an ice cream window. The whole feel of the place is so cute. It's really small but usually that isn't a problem but it has the whole 20's feel and I love it here! read more

My only complaint is that the people working don't organize the traffic coming in. I came here and stood in line and a couple of jerks clearly walked in 5 min after me walked right up to order and nothing was said to them by the person taking orders. read more

"Frankly" these dogs are delicious. If I don't grab a hotdog from Big Dog downtown than I head to Nick's Nest for equally the best! As a bonus they offer baked beans, soda, etc. worth a shot if you're looking to mix it up from the usual. read more

I came and ate here with my wife after many, many years. The food was fine and the nostalgia was great. I left my wallet at home and the manager said not to worry about it, which I thought was cool. I returned later that day and paid him. Nice people. read more

The hot dogs with sauerkraut here are top notch. Nicks nest is the perfect spot to stop by for a quick bite to eat.

Grew up eating here whenever we would visit family. Easily the best lunch I will ever have. Nothing better than a milkshake, a hotdog (or two), baked beans and popcorn. So good! Driving by you would not expect much but this is an amazing place to eat some of the best hotdogs. read more

I like hot dogs here and there and let me tell you at nicks nest, you get what you payed for. The employees are friendly and when your in the resteraunt, you get a old school diner feeling, like being in there takes you back into holyoke's history. Very disappointed in our recent trip to Nick's Nest - hot dogs have gone down hill and last night Not good at all. Skin actually came off hot dog while eating. Used to be good years ago but won't go back. One star because like the place - just not the food. read more

Stopped here on a road trip with the family, was told they had the best dogs in the area. Did not disappoint. They are steamed, and rolled in, what I was told is their secret sauce, not butter as I had thought. Buns are also steamed, soft and warm. I had one with "the works" onion ,relish ,mustard and one bacon and cheese. Their home baked beans are okay, a little too thick. I had a chocolate "frappe", I just wish they had malt. The service was great. Employees were friendly, patient, and helpful. The place is incredibly clean, and the atmosphere can make you nostalgic for a period you weren't even a part of. And an employee will get the door for you on the way out, via a rope behind the counter- don't see many of those anymore. We walked to the other side of the building after for some ice cream, which was average, they have a lot of soft serve flavors. Hot fudge was a little off, I wouldn't recommend getting any on your sundae. read more

The hot dogs are just hot dogs and if you go at off peak times they taste like they've been swimming in the grease for a while. But what really annoyed me was at the soft serve window. I ordered a strawberry sundae. Usually you get some sort of strawberry, either canned or frozen, but an actual strawberry. They gloped on a sort of glue type substance, like you might find between layers of a very cheap cake. Bright red and slightly bitter and gelatinous. Gross. But this confirmed for me that these people bought a well loved institution and they kept it going, which is nice, but they don't know much about food. read more

While this cash pit is quaint, and the hot dogs are play it safe mild in nature, it is vastly over priced. When two hotdogs border on 5 dollars something is seriously very wrong. This is stark greed at work. As I said, the dogs are of quality, and no worries of becoming ill, but they are mild thus not pronounced in taste. I strongly suspect these are very similar to "Blue Seal" hot dogs made at Falls Provision in Chicopee, and sold at many stores, I thing around 5 dollars for a pack of 10. I guess the ones Nicks Nest use must have gold shavings in them to validate the extreme cost? In addition, these dogs are boiled in mass volume in the back room for I have seen this. They later come to rest on rollers with what some in the business call "flavor fry". Milk shakes also extreme in cost for nothing really special at all. Denies is cheaper for shakes, and just as good. On the dogs, well, if you do not mind passing up an old house with neon as the bait, try 7-11 down the street that sells all beef dogs at two for two dollars. Maybe go further up into Northampton, and go to Packard's and get their giant chili dog which is a meal in its self and high quality as well. However, if you need the neon, I strongly suggest going down route 202 in Granby headed towards Belchertown and going to Cindy's. Here you will find long dogs at just over a dollar apiece and sometimes two for one. They have truly outstanding ice cream , the real deal. And it is quaint, much more so than this over rated Nicks with prices that offend decency. Of course what would you expect by two former Friendly's managers on the take? You can do much better. Much better than the mediocre food served up by two former business managers in a dilapidated house with neon lights serving as bait, and on the side of a heavily traveled major route going but 10 feet in front of it with noisy trucks and commerce. My advice? Don't take the lure. read more
