The restaurant is in a renovated train depot. The decor is a mix of styles. We were seated in a comfy booth by a window. Daily specials were listed on a board. Our server was attentive and friendly. She was busy with the lunch crowd, but managed to check on us frequently. I had a patty melt with a side salad. The salad was huge and fresh. The patty melt was covered in fabulous fried onions and melted cheese. It was a tasty and filling. My husband had the tenderloin with fries. The tenderloin was hand breaded and delicious, but could have used a bit more seasoning in the breading. The fries and pickles were good and lunch was filling. The restrooms are clean and gorgeous. There is ample parking in their private lot. I recommend and will definitely return.

My boyfriend asked for a high chair again and this time the lady cleaning tables kindly got one for us and no apology from our waitress. Our waitress comes back for our food order and mid order runs off to grab sweetener for the other person with us and then takes the rest of the order quickly asking no questions about preferences. The food came out cold, the Mickey Mouse pancake was not even close to Mickey Mouse shaped and huge for a kids menu. Never once asked how we were doing, if we needed anything or how the food was. I would not recommend, they were not busy and there were plenty of people working at the time. Prices are somewhat high for the quality you get, I could have made better at home for less. Tables and decor is outdated and worn, but cute. Side note: they threw out a pair of someone's prescription eye glasses as well after two days.

The bar area is old school cozy, and darker hued. Both areas are beautiful! The kitchen is open (always a plus) and filled with a very talented culinary team. Hosts are warm and welcoming. Service is impeccable with great attention to details, yet somehow, not stuffy. We've dined at Joseph Decuis many times over the years. There was a very brief period when the menu was a bit less than expected, mind you BRIEF, but we were happy to experience an evening dinner this past weekend that was once again par excellence! Exactly why we choose Joseph Decuis for special evenings out! As others have mentioned, it is pricey. However, if you appreciate exquisite freshness, innovation, and preparation (truly an art), and are looking for something out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to make a reservation! Photos of tonight's menu and some of our choices (a table of four) with explanations, below.

We ordered tartar as a starter, and tomahawk Waygu steaks and while they were prepared properly, they were both just so bland. Both my business partner and I left the evening saying, "meh. That was underwhelming." I've had better steaks from my own cast iron pan at home with a sprinkle of sea salt. Another point of contention was that I specifically asked for a green vegetable and I was given carrots and peppers. Nothing green. For a meal that cost an arm and a leg, it was disappointing. Stars are for the great servers and the atmosphere.

Sweetie came close, and my cousin can make great ones, but I need it more often than just at holidays. You can't find it at restaurants. Oh, you can find the brown sugar version, but we're talking REAL sugar cream pie, with just sugar, cream, and a little nutmeg on top. This lady does that. Place your order, pull up to her house on a gravel road not quite in the middle of nowhere, and there is pie. For $10 (I think it was on special, normally $12?) you get a real, home-made sugar cream pie. Great crust. Filling that is a cross between pudding and custard in texture, and subtly sweet. Is it as good as grandma's? Close. I'm biased, of course, and we ate the whole thing in a day, so no real complaints. But differences: a little coconut flavor, which must be a local variation? Crust was not quite the same. But on its own, as a pie, as a sugar cream pie, very good. We heard of her on PBS, and had to come by as soon as we were up this way. We will be back. I saw variations like chocolate sugar cream, and she makes many other pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, etc. Well worth a detour!

The chocolate chip was also good but why have that if you can have one of the others. I'm not sure where this business is located as I ate these cookies at Board and Brush. I might have to sign up for another class just to eat more cookies!

The restaurant was a lot more kitschy than I was expecting, which I loved. Our waitress had a wonderful energy. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. The menu had several unique items. It was cold outside so soup sounded perfect. I also got a pepper jack grilled cheese. The soup came in a huge bowl. The combo of the soup and grilled cheese was very filling. My friends ordered the sticky pudding. I had a bite and it was delicious. I cant believe it's taken me so long to eat here. I throughly enjoyed it and cant wait for my next road trip.

She can never finish because it's so much food, which is OK with me because I help her out some. My favorite way to eat this is to mix a little mashed potato, mustard and pork chop together into one delicious bite. We were too full for dessert, but the times that we had the dessert here were spectacular as well. Thank you to all the people that work at Paynes, please don't change anything, you are the best!
