    French Toast, Chilaquiles Breakfast
    Kimberly D.

Food, service, and ambiance were all good. I ordered the red chilaquiles but they were not the best. They didn't really have enough flavor. I was able to call over one of the waiters and get some salsa and it kind of saved the plate for me. Without it it would not have been enjoyable. My friend ordered the french toast which looked good. If I were to come again I'd try the sweet breakfast items instead. Staff were friendly and came around pretty regularly. The chair I was sitting on was broken so it was really awkward to talk with my friend. But if you're into diners, you might appreciate it more. Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5

waited way too long for a mediocre diner.. arrived around sunday noonish and waited about 25 min to be seated on a small table outside it took another 15min after we were ready for the server to take our order ~Food~ pancake: 6/10 just ok slightly dry and nothing special corned beef hash with scrambled eggs: 4/10 the corned beef was soooo salty i've never had such a salty dish?? i didn't even want to send it back cuz then i would have to wait another 15 min to track the server down eggs benedict: 8/10 solid dish and large portion ~Service: very slow. friendly but we had to keep tracking the server down. they need to increase the amount of workers here ~Cost: ~$20 per dish ~Parking: some street parking available, might need to walk a bit

Sad to see the place, it has good reviews but, food its ok, nothing special , place doesn't look clean and it's not a vintage look for sure, they can make it look cleaner. Service is good, I can't complain about that but i can't give more than 3 starts.

I've driven past Nick's Cafe several times and finally stopped by with my friends to see what the hype is about. There was a bit of a wait, maybe 30 minutes before we got seated, but the lively energy and the food made it totally worth it. We ordered the breakfast burrito, and it's super hearty and big, making it an amazing meal. We also tried one of their specials. I don't remember the exact name, but it comes loaded with egg, gravy, rice, and a protein, and it tastes absolutely delicious. They serve their own house salsa here, and it packs the perfect punch that goes well with everything on the table. The service and vibes are great, and I'll totally be back.

    Biscuit and Gravy Plus

Classic long time diner, slight wait times during weekend services. The staff are attentive. The aesthetic is nostalgic but the food is just ok. Ordered biscuits and gravy with eggs. The biscuits were thick, not really buttery, the gravy was decent but could be from a can or premade batch. The pancakes were too thick for my liking. If I'm in the area for breakfast diner food, I might don't to try other options.

What I Ordered: -Huevos Rancheros $25.95 Can you believe it? I've lived in LA for almost two years and never had Huevos Rancheros until now. I heard great things about this place from many people. My Yelp friend, Eric H. recommended the Huevos Rancheros, and that was all I needed. I finally made it to Nick's Cafe this week, and I did! I almost felt a bit blasphemous ordering something without pork, especially with pig pictures everywhere. I really love this no-frills diner. I will never come here on weekends; the lines are intense. The best time to come is during the week, outside of breakfast and lunch rushes. I went on a Wednesday at 1:10 PM, and there were still people eating inside and out. The Huevos Rancheros come with corn tortillas, fried egg, shredded beef, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, homemade ranchero sauce, Ortega chiles, cheddar, cotija cheese, sour cream, and cottage potatoes. It was excellent! I'm at a loss for words, but it was a truly great and extremely filling dish. The price is a bit high, but the portion size makes it worth it, and it could easily be split between two people. I was greeted outside when I arrived. I was second in line; the person in front of me was ordering to-go. I was eating in and was told to seat myself. I found a seat next to the pig napkins to see the cool art. The service was helpful and attentive. I even chatted with one of the servers, who asked where I live and recommended a bar nearby. It's nice to have conversations with other people when our heads aren't in our phones. This diner is the best place to do that. The portions are very large here, so keep that in mind when ordering. I wanted more food, but I'm glad I didn't because I'm so full. I look forward to coming back and trying other dishes. I considered ham, but I'm not a fan. So I went with the Huevos Rancheros, and I'm glad I did. Nick's Cafe is great and worth the hype. Can't wait to come back!

Better get here early because this place gets packed! Luckily we got in before the rush! We sat inside at the bar. Cool old school spot with fun things to look at. Servers were friendly and easy going. The coffee was good and served in the mugs that make coffee taste even better. We ordered banana pancakes with eggs and bacon and waffle to split! These plates are huge! The pancakes were enough for the two of us to split in themselves. They were extra fluffy, had a great flavor, and too filling! The waffle was good too, but we were just so stuffed! I will definitely return. Enjoyed free parking too!

WOW WOW WOW!!!! We love a great hole in the wall!!!! We stayed overnight in LA and were looking for a recommendations for breakfast joint and came across this. BOY was this find amazing!!! We got here early! It was in the 40's outside so we opted for inside seating. Seating is extremely limited inside but PLENTY of outdoor seating. We sat at the bar and the ambiance was rundown, nicknacks of pigs and cop cars everywhere, shabby 50's diner in all the best ways. Theme is definitely pigs and (cop theme) aka pigs . Nice play on words, Super catchy and unique. The staff and service were amazing! They were receiving shipment but also serving the guest and was hustling since 7:00 am. They did not skip a beat with service and worked like a well oiled machine. We ordered the green salsa Chilaquiles Breakfast for $23.95 with Tortillas chips, scrambled eggs, green salsa and cilantro sour cream with chicken and boy it did not disappoint. It was a huge serving and worth every penny. Off the griddle we ordered the french toast!!! 3 huge slices of toast topped with whipped butter leaves you in a comatose state from how delicious and mouth watering it is. The Chorizo And Eggs Combo for $23.50 features scrambled eggs with chorizo--bells--onions is a really good contender. All in on, STOP BY! You won't regret it.

Est. 1948- Is Nick's cafe, LA's original greasy spoon? Could be. It doesn't look like much has changed since they opened 77 years ago. I read somewhere that Nick's last remodel, was sometime in the 1960's. From the drop ceiling, with fluorescent lighting, to the Venetian blinds and laminate counter top, Nick's looks like something out of a film noir movie. This classic greasy spoon is the type of place that modern 'retro' diners try to emulate. All the action is at the counter, that's where you want to be. There are only 25 stools, so you may have to wait to get seated, but it's worth it. On one particular visit, I showed up within an hour of closing, so there was no wait. I ordered the California Scramble (ham, scrambled eggs, cheddar, bells, onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado) and a cup of coffee. The food came out in reasonable time, and it was quite tasty. I also recommend the Huevos Rancheros. This dish is loaded with fried eggs, shredded beef, corn tortillas. ortega chiles, onions, bellpepers, tomatoes, cilantro, cheddar & cotija cheese, ranchero sauce & sour cream, served with cottage potatoes. I think this is the BEST Huevos Rancheros, I've ever had. On another visit, I ordered the Famous, Ham & Eggs. This is a giant slab of ham, baked with a brown sugar glaze, I ordered it with hash browns and toast. This is about the best example of a classic American diner breakfast as you can get, and Nick's is possibly the best example of an old school breakfast/lunch counter as there is left in LA (maybe Russell's in Pasadena - 1930?). The service is good, and the staff are nice. Another star of Nick's is the home made salsa, which is served in squeeze bottles throughout the cafe. This stuff is excellent. I would buy it to take home if they would let me. Nick's Cafe is a must visit for all Angelenos. One note of caution - The 25 stools at the counter are very close together, so you will be sitting as close to a stranger as you would on a subway. Be sure to wear your deodorant. Nick's cafe is a favorite stop for Bosh, and it is for me as well.

First time here and was not disappointed! Arrived slightly after 10:30am (sat) assuming it would be busy. We waited about 15mins maybe to be sat. The menu has many options and the "Light eaters" caught my attention! I ordered the First light (1 piece of toast+egg+meat), it was the perfect amount! The toast was a good portion. Absolutely loved it! * Also walked in and they were faintly playing Juan Gabriel (a favorite) and took it as a good sign!!

Best ham and I've ever had. Thick slices cooked to perfection. Good hash browns too. Generous portions at a decent price. The eggs and corned beef hash is super tasty. Its hard to find homemade hash this good. The place is old and a little beaten. The potential for a nice patio exists. Currently setup with canopy's.The service was good and the food came out fast. I would definitely recommend.

    Tuna melt + Fries
    Lawrence K.

This is my 3rd time at this diner and it hasn't disappointed. This time, I tried the tuna melt & fries. I was impressed by how much actual tuna they loaded on. In most other places the tuna is drowned in mayo, and you can't taste any tuna at all. Bread was buttered sourdough, crunchy & fresh.

    Melissa P.

I always love coming here! Everything is delicious! Except the coffee. it's just ok. It's mediocre but what makes it taste good, is sitting at the counter with strangers. The best hospitality is always from diner counters, and this one is definitely the best! It has a vintage feel to it. There's lots of artwork from customers placed all over the place. It shows how much they appreciate their guests love for Nick's

The food: Recommended *Kara Kara Tamales: braised oxtail with a peanut butter sauce. Wow! The taste was wonderful! Hard to explain but Filipino/African food meets Latin food. It was on the "shared plate" menu, which to me means it will be a lot. But the 2 tamales were not very big. Still, they were so rich that the 2 really were sufficient to share. Quite filling. I couldn't get enough of the sauce! *Crab fried rice: Very tasty and generous portion. Plenty share! Not recommended: The street eats menu. Now, this is what pulled us in - the sights and smells of the food being grilled outside the restaurant. Most of which was on this meme. Like a tasting menu. But for price to portion ratio, it simply isn't worth it. I ordered the skirt steak. 4 oz, cut in half. Cooked down to what looked like .5 oz! Each on a toothpick sitting in a paper plate (or maybe it was cupcake holder?) IDK. I just know it wasn't a good presentation and the taste wasn't memorable. Regular. More grill smell than taste. Not at all worth $8. Service: Really nice. And mostly good. Though they did fail short by (1) Using only small appetizer size plates and (2) Not bringing a fresh plate to eat the crab fried rice on after the peanut butter sauce laced tamale appetizer was eaten. The server brought the fried rice, but didn't bother to give us fresh plates (nor silverware). My son was mortified when I grabbed a plate from one of the empty tables! (Teenager energy on full effect). But after initial attentive service, the variety of different servers whizzing by didn't stop to ask if we needed anything. And I sat waiting at least 8 minutes staring at the rice. I assured my young man that the servers would be fine with me getting another plate to save them from having to. And once I did, he suddenly started eating from my plate of my peanut butter free fried rice. And of course, when a server did attend to us and I let her know, she was glad I took matters into my own hands instead of not eating for 15 minutes. Thoughts: Go for dinner, and order from the full dinner menu, skip the skimpy street eats menu. With reservations you can sit in the main restaurant area that has some view to the outdoors. Without it - back to the black room you go! Know that it will be expensive. And it will be original. Not sure I'll go back. It's very "special occasion" upscale dining. But If I do it'll be with reservations. The meal was memorable and worth experiencing.

My wife and I stopped here a few weekends back for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed the food. The ambiance here is pretty generic, white and bright and very copy and paste of a lot of places popping up recently. The staff was super friendly while taking our orders and dropping the food off, which is always appreciated. I ended up ordering the Santo's Turkey Melt which is smoked turkey, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and chipotle aioli served on sourdough with a side of french fries. The sandwich was really good and the same can be said for the french fries and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fries given, so thumbs up to that. I forgot what the food costs so I visited the website and for some reason they don't think it's important to put that online, which is pretty darn stupid if you ask me. Overall, I didn't have a bad experience at Sandcouch Cafe and I would visit again in the future thanks to it's convenient location. The food was solid and the staff was friendly, and that's really all I need when ordering a sandwich.

It's conveniently located to the LA Convention Center, Crytpo.com arena, and LA Live which makes it a must visit before or after an event! I am obsessed with their happy hour, which offers healthy items at discounted prices with generous portions! I have been here so many times throughout the years but most recently found myself here during a busy World Cup match! Regardless, the service and quality of food was not sacrificed! I was greeted as soon as I got there and the bartenders were overwhelmed but still friendly and helpful. I was so tempted to get a margarita, since theirs are amazing, but decided to keep it dry and just get their vegan nachos. I was able to score a table outside on their lovely patio, which felt secluded enough from the main street. My food was brought out quicker than I thought and I was delighted, as I was famished! The vegan nachos here are fantastic and the happy price is only $10, which is a steal for what you get! They are costed in the most magical concoction of a bean puree, cashew cheese sauce, and guacamole which all have the most creamy, luscious and savory flavors. It's so hearty and well seasoned and not only filling, but you feel great after. Parking is pretty easy, as there are usually ample meters available nearby. I cannot wait to return again soon the next time I'm in Downtown LA! I am hoping to try more of their vegan options and next time I will for sure get a drink to go along with their delicious food!

I ordered the Espresso Martini, and it tasted pretty watered down and lacked the bold coffee flavor I was hoping for. On the bright side, the food was definitely the highlight. Overall, I'd come back for the food, but I'd probably steer clear from cocktails and order a real drink. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensured everything was perfect without being intrusive. We ordered the tostaditas de atún agua chile negro, beet salad, carne asada taco and Al pastor taco and watched the World Cup game. To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. After looking around the museum and enjoying the artwork, I went to Manuela, the restaurant inside the museum, on October 3, 2021, and again on October 9, 2021. One time, I went with just one close friend, and the other time, I went with a group of seven friends. On October 3, we made a reservation in advance and had brunch there. On October 9, we all went to the museum together, but since we hadn't made a reservation, we weren't able to eat there that day. I remember the atmosphere being really nice, and I remember that everything we ordered was delicious. All of the staff were also very friendly, and I remember the prices being quite reasonable. My friend and I, of course, split the bill evenly. Since it was five years ago, I obviously don't remember the exact prices in detail, but I do remember feeling that the food was reasonably priced. The only downside was the valet parking, which I remember being around $20. Other than the parking fee, I really liked the place overall and had a very good experience there.
