The building is pretty unassuming from the outside as it is located in a quiet part of town, though there is plenty to stare at as soon as you walk in the front door - the walls are covered with interesting trinkets from ship wheels and pirates to a 5-ft tiki sculpture in the corner. The outdoor patio is even more decked-out - much larger than I was expecting and fully-equipped with private tables and unique decor, including a coy pond and life-size statue of the ol' Cap'n himself. The best part of our time here was spent interacting with Michael - the man behind the bar. He was very friendly, engaging, and had plenty of great stories to tell. We felt very welcome the entire time and will definitely be stopping in again the next time we're in Providence!

Years ago, we wandered in for a cocktail & we have been telling people about the bar ever since. Nautical decor everywhere you look, a pool table, sports on the TVs & a cute outdoor space. For us, it is more of a beer & a shot or simple drink place, never once seen a frou-frou drink (but maybe that is because I am not looking for one). No food service but they allow you to bring it in from an outside restaurant (many great options on Ives Street!). Great way to get your evening started or one for the road! Highly recommend. Entry is $10, or $35 annual memberships (start September every year). The prices of the cocktails are so reasonable and rare to see in Providence at $10 to $12. The beer offerings vary from cans or draft, with impressive offerings such as Bissell Brothers from Portland, Maine. As someone in their 30s, I do give warning this is more an undergrad/grad place so late hours are usually crowded with students (after 9pm). I usually drink there earlier in the evening as a pre game spot lol I will always recommend Grad Center Bar.

We visited around 8pm on a Saturday, and there was a line of about 15 people in the stairwell. We waited about 20 minutes to get in, with $5 entry fee per person. And it was well worth it all because - honestly, you just gotta experience it! It is a typical dive bar with affordable drinks, but it's not shitty drinks either! We got a green tea shot to get our night started - Jameson whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix, sprite. Very refreshing and goes down pretty easily, can't even taste the alcohol but it's definitely there! Such a chill place to wind down and catch up with buddies! The espresso martini was genuinely like nothing I've had before--incredibly flavorful with the perfect top froth. Even though I was feeling a bit introverted that evening, sitting at the bar was a great experience. The bartenders were warm, attentive, and made sure I was completely taken care of, even in a loud, bustling crowd. For food, I ordered the sliders and the mac and cheese. Calling it the best bar food I've ever had feels like an understatement--the flavor and seasoning rival fine dining at half the price. I even ordered the steak skewers to go for later! Whenever I'm back in town, Red Door will definitely be my first stop. Two thumbs up--keep doing God's work!

The octopus body was grilled to a tender tenderness, though the tentacles were slightly charred and bitter, which is normal, but the sauce was far superior. The kale was cooked until smooth and thick, with a distinct sweetness that completely eliminated any strange vegetable taste; the white beans were also soft and creamy, adding thickness and aroma to the sauce. This sauce paired perfectly with the bread served before the meal. Pizza with Sweet Corn & Spicy Oil: In Providence, you absolutely must try grilled pizza. The waiter recommended this one, saying it was his favorite. It was the first time I'd ever had a pizza like this. The crust was thin and light, with noticeable charring, and a slightly crispy texture, which inexplicably reminded me of the Indian roti that I always had at Cantonese restaurants when I was a child. The tomatoes and corn were in season, and a touch of chili oil brought out a lively blend of sour and sweet flavors. Delicious. Bacaro's "Farmer's Salad": This was the first time I'd had a salad with snow peas, and it had a raw taste. I also tasted a hint of minty, refreshing herbal flavor, which was interesting. I searched for the ingredients but couldn't find the source, and the waiter couldn't explain it either.

Somehow, despite having lived here for years and spending plenty of time around downtown…read moreProvidence, I had never been to The Eddy. I'm honestly not sure how I missed it, because this is exactly the kind of place I like finding. It is the true definition of a small cocktail bar. The space is tiny, intimate, and has a very specific atmosphere, so if you're looking for a big place with plenty of tables, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a great cocktail in a cozy little bar, however, you're in the right place. The cocktail menu is excellent. There are a lot of creative options that go well beyond the standard collection of Old Fashioneds, Margaritas, and Martinis you'll find at most bars. The drinks are imaginative without becoming gimmicky, and the combinations we tried were really well balanced and interesting. You can tell there is some serious thought behind the cocktail program, and it makes ordering something new a lot of fun. Our waitress was fantastic as well. My wife ordered a drink that apparently isn't something every bartender is familiar with, so our waitress went back to the bartender to ask about it. The bartender immediately knew exactly what she was talking about, which was a nice little reminder that these people actually know their drinks. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy without hovering over us. The music deserves a mention, too. It was fantastic and fit the atmosphere perfectly. The Eddy has that comfortable, slightly dark cocktail-bar feeling where you can sit down, have a drink, listen to good music, and actually enjoy being there rather than feeling like you're sitting in a loud restaurant waiting for someone to bring you your check. My only real warning is that this place is genuinely small. That is part of its charm, but it also means getting in and finding a seat can be difficult at times, particularly when it's busy. You probably shouldn't show up with a large group expecting to immediately find a table. For two people looking for a couple of really good cocktails, though, it's pretty much ideal. The prices are also quite reasonable for the quality of the drinks. You're obviously paying cocktail-bar prices rather than dive-bar prices, but I didn't feel like we were being taken advantage of. Considering the creativity and quality of what we were drinking, I thought the prices were perfectly fair. I'm actually a little annoyed that I went this long without knowing The Eddy existed. Providence has so many cocktail bars that you can spend years here and still keep discovering places you've somehow walked past a hundred times. The Eddy is definitely going on the list of places we need to come back to, and we will 100% be back.
