This place is such a vibe. It is cash only and dog friendly! The drinks are pretty cheap and they have a little area for outdoor seating. They often have live music, I was there for a banjo-fest!

It was the Saturday before Halloween and it was the most eclectic Halloween party I have ever seen! People of all ages. The costumes were pretty damn good for going to a bar party. Think pimps, Benny's lawn bags, Evil Knieval! The bar was packed. Live music was playing ( think something out of a Weezer video but with axe headbands.) We had fun.

Spent a recent Thursday night here and had a great time! The beer was pretty cheap and they had live music going. The crowd was pretty laid back and there were a few groups playing pool. Cash only!

Cash only dive bar that takes you back to your youth. Live music and the world of drinkers. Enjoy !

Live blues, chill people, dim lighting, cheap beer. Welcome to Thursday night, Providence.

Best jukebox in Providence Friendly people A true barfly's bar Nick-A-Nees has perhaps the most impressive collection of blues/country-rock north of the Mason-Dixon line and east of Nashville. The double jukebox is rife with treasures that look as if they took great care to assemble, and I don't mean to surf-search on a WiFi-enabled internet machine. The juke system is a crown jewel piece of hi-fi excellence, and if this Jewelry District spot needed more to tout, it's ten plays for one thin dollar: SIMPLY UNREAL. Because it's such a treasure, let me call to your attention some jukebox stand-outs: The Best of The Meters Shane MacGowan & The Popes "The Snake" -- the disc that heavily features Johnny Depp on slide-guitar Tom Waits "Closin' Time" North Mississippi All-Stars featuring R.L. Burnside Standards you'll find: Leadbelly, Loretta Lynn, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Robert Johnson, Ralph Stanley, Otis Redding Strangest birds in the bunch: The collection itself is a stand-out from the normal sets you'll find, which means that the five-odd college rock discs that made the cut look out of place. Still, we're talking about Beck, not Chumbawumba. Also, Rod Stewart's "It Had To Be You" has been good for some laughs. Nick-A-Nee's is a true gem that's worth the stop even for teetotalers...but even if you don't drink, their beer prices will tempt you to start. A sizeable sailfish, a hockey stick coat hanger, and a velvet banquette probably assembled when Buddy Cianci was still in short-pants speak to the décor here. You might not be bringing your mom here for lunch, but you're definitely bringing your uncle in to knock back a few and help you hustle some friends in pool. What else: Cash only, Holmes. Dogs allowed. Tasty food selections. Awesome hand-slide shuffleboard. ATM. Billiards (with pool tournaments on select days). Typically one muted TV with the game on. It they ain't got it, you don't need it. I love this bar.

If you're looking for 'the dive bar' in Providence, please make your way to Nick-a-Nees. Recommended by one of the top bartenders in the city, this was what we expected it to be and was more than that as well. Amazing ambiance with a very laid back atmosphere even before you walk inside. There are musicians playing outside and groups of people having a good time, listening to music, with their dogs/pets and just chilling like it should be. When you walk inside, you are greeted by a pool table and a live band that is playing right in front of you. There are communal tables where you can sit along side another stranger who will soon become your friend and listen to the music. They have a number of interesting memorabilia on the walls and surrounding structures but one important thing that struck out were the airplanes made from beer cans which was really cool. They have a small but good selection of draft beers that includes local and imported beers. It is a full bar, so they make cocktails as well. They have a limited food menu which includes a stuffie, few sandwiches and other bar snacks that can be purchased. We got the stuffie just to try it out, wasn't great but who cares when everything else is 'amaze-balls'. Overall, definitely go here if you're looking for a place to chill with / without your pet and listen to some great live music. 4.5 stars.

Great dive bar! Cheap drinks and good service... Definitely a great place to start the night. Only downside is the lack of street parking.

Nautical-themed neighborhood bar in a scenic part of Providence near Brown University…read more My girlfriend and I had planned to come to Captain Seaweeds while visiting the city and stopped in right when it opened. The building is pretty unassuming from the outside as it is located in a quiet part of town, though there is plenty to stare at as soon as you walk in the front door - the walls are covered with interesting trinkets from ship wheels and pirates to a 5-ft tiki sculpture in the corner. The outdoor patio is even more decked-out - much larger than I was expecting and fully-equipped with private tables and unique decor, including a coy pond and life-size statue of the ol' Cap'n himself. The best part of our time here was spent interacting with Michael - the man behind the bar. He was very friendly, engaging, and had plenty of great stories to tell. We felt very welcome the entire time and will definitely be stopping in again the next time we're in Providence!

Years ago, we wandered in for a cocktail & we have been telling people about the bar ever since. Nautical decor everywhere you look, a pool table, sports on the TVs & a cute outdoor space. For us, it is more of a beer & a shot or simple drink place, never once seen a frou-frou drink (but maybe that is because I am not looking for one). No food service but they allow you to bring it in from an outside restaurant (many great options on Ives Street!). Great way to get your evening started or one for the road! Highly recommend. Entry is $10, or $35 annual memberships (start September every year). The prices of the cocktails are so reasonable and rare to see in Providence at $10 to $12. The beer offerings vary from cans or draft, with impressive offerings such as Bissell Brothers from Portland, Maine. As someone in their 30s, I do give warning this is more an undergrad/grad place so late hours are usually crowded with students (after 9pm). I usually drink there earlier in the evening as a pre game spot lol I will always recommend Grad Center Bar.

We visited around 8pm on a Saturday, and there was a line of about 15 people in the stairwell. We waited about 20 minutes to get in, with $5 entry fee per person. And it was well worth it all because - honestly, you just gotta experience it! It is a typical dive bar with affordable drinks, but it's not shitty drinks either! We got a green tea shot to get our night started - Jameson whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix, sprite. Very refreshing and goes down pretty easily, can't even taste the alcohol but it's definitely there! Such a chill place to wind down and catch up with buddies! Maybe play a game of pool while you're at it!

A friend of mine from RI told me that RI does Italian well so I came here. It was a bit loud inside so I asked to be seated outside. I enjoyed the plant enclosed outdoor section I was seated at. The octopus body was grilled to a tender tenderness, though the tentacles were slightly charred and bitter, which is normal, but the sauce was far superior. The kale was cooked until smooth and thick, with a distinct sweetness that completely eliminated any strange vegetable taste; the white beans were also soft and creamy, adding thickness and aroma to the sauce. This sauce paired perfectly with the bread served before the meal. Pizza with Sweet Corn & Spicy Oil: In Providence, you absolutely must try grilled pizza. The waiter recommended this one, saying it was his favorite. It was the first time I'd ever had a pizza like this. The crust was thin and light, with noticeable charring, and a slightly crispy texture, which inexplicably reminded me of the Indian roti that I always had at Cantonese restaurants when I was a child. The tomatoes and corn were in season, and a touch of chili oil brought out a lively blend of sour and sweet flavors. Delicious. Bacaro's "Farmer's Salad": This was the first time I'd had a salad with snow peas, and it had a raw taste. I also tasted a hint of minty, refreshing herbal flavor, which was interesting. I searched for the ingredients but couldn't find the source, and the waiter couldn't explain it either.

Somehow, despite having lived here for years and spending plenty of time around downtown…read moreProvidence, I had never been to The Eddy. I'm honestly not sure how I missed it, because this is exactly the kind of place I like finding. It is the true definition of a small cocktail bar. The space is tiny, intimate, and has a very specific atmosphere, so if you're looking for a big place with plenty of tables, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a great cocktail in a cozy little bar, however, you're in the right place. The cocktail menu is excellent. There are a lot of creative options that go well beyond the standard collection of Old Fashioneds, Margaritas, and Martinis you'll find at most bars. The drinks are imaginative without becoming gimmicky, and the combinations we tried were really well balanced and interesting. You can tell there is some serious thought behind the cocktail program, and it makes ordering something new a lot of fun. Our waitress was fantastic as well. My wife ordered a drink that apparently isn't something every bartender is familiar with, so our waitress went back to the bartender to ask about it. The bartender immediately knew exactly what she was talking about, which was a nice little reminder that these people actually know their drinks. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy without hovering over us. The music deserves a mention, too. It was fantastic and fit the atmosphere perfectly. The Eddy has that comfortable, slightly dark cocktail-bar feeling where you can sit down, have a drink, listen to good music, and actually enjoy being there rather than feeling like you're sitting in a loud restaurant waiting for someone to bring you your check. My only real warning is that this place is genuinely small. That is part of its charm, but it also means getting in and finding a seat can be difficult at times, particularly when it's busy. You probably shouldn't show up with a large group expecting to immediately find a table. For two people looking for a couple of really good cocktails, though, it's pretty much ideal. The prices are also quite reasonable for the quality of the drinks. You're obviously paying cocktail-bar prices rather than dive-bar prices, but I didn't feel like we were being taken advantage of. Considering the creativity and quality of what we were drinking, I thought the prices were perfectly fair. I'm actually a little annoyed that I went this long without knowing The Eddy existed. Providence has so many cocktail bars that you can spend years here and still keep discovering places you've somehow walked past a hundred times. The Eddy is definitely going on the list of places we need to come back to, and we will 100% be back.
