OMG, I love this nursery. They have a great selection of unusual plants (especially for perennial gardeners)--I have found some of my favorite plants here, and they are always so much healthier than what you find at chain stores. Their gift items are awesome, too. Their staff is very knowledgeable--I have yet to have a question they couldn't answer. Why are some of the cashiers at NH not very nice? The store is amazing but the attitude given at the register almost makes me want to stop going there. It's not that way every time, but it happens a lot with the older lady with the pearl earrings. Be nice lady! read more

I wouldn't buy anything here, they don't stand behind a dissatisfied customer. I bought a ceramic pot that wouldn't work in my house, tried to return it but they wouldn't take it. If you're gonna charge like the Neiman Marcus of flower shops then act like the Neiman Marcus of service. Good riddance!! read more

This is the best nursery in DFW, by far. We live in Dallas and drive 18 miles to get there. Their selection is huge, and sometimes they are the only place in town to have certain items (like the time I was looking for several birch trees). The staff there is super friendly and will haul you around on a golf cart to find the perfect selection. There is a full selection of growing material, including mulches, rocks, fertilizers, and soil amendments. They are also quite knowledgeable about where and when to plant items, what types of fertilizer to use, and other tips and tricks. We really appreciated the growing advice. read more

This location, there are two on the same street, is the indoor location for plant decorations, pots, household items, and household plants. big enough location for indoor items. Most unusual and creative plant and flower arrangements anywhere. You won't find anything better in NYC or San Francisco. Merchandise selection is also best in class. Nothing else close to it in Texas as far as taste and creativity. Nlite: Berings in Houston leaves NH in the dust on the customer service experience. What is lacking in spades is customer service. Stanley Marcus said it best: Take care of the customer in front of you. NH views customers, wants and needs to be an unfortunate but necessary evil at best. Unless you're buying flowers or plants or need the merch immediately, just google the item and buy it from Amazon. Note: NH cannot be bothered to not charge Texas sales tax on out of state sales and Amazon shipping rates are significantly less. Been my experience over many years that Jeff Bezos and his minions provide much better service and a good bit more care and concern re your retail experience than the folks at NH. Go there to shop but let Amazon handle all the details of actually buying the merch and getting it home. read more

Staff here is excellent. I asked a staff member for help and she brought over another worker who was more specialized in the kind of plant I was looking for. She had in depth knowledge of everything I asked about. Everyone we interacted with was so kind. We were looking for plants, and found this place on Yelp! We went to the out door one first, not even knowing there was a specific indoor shop a few miles down the road, and well we fell in love! We got two plants to add to our other babies, and made a deal to come back once a month to add more to our home. Disappointed how the manager spoke to me. I ordered plants online from their wholesaler and received two emails indicating their store would contact me when the plants were delivered. Nobody called me and they tried to lie and say they attempted to contact me after the plants arrived. I verified with the manager that I received the email saying that the plants were shipped to Nicholson-Hardie so he apparently thinks I am supposed to just know when they were delivered to their store when I didn't even know where the plants were coming from. They said they could try to keep the plants alive until I picked them up but wouldn't guarantee it after I told them a family emergency had me out of state. It was just rude how I was treated. It was just, oh well lady. I was able to get a refund from the wholesaler but it wasn't their fault. Nicholson-hardie just tarnished two relationships. I'll never do business there. read more

I drove 25 miles one way ( gladly ) to get a $90 peony for plant . it was labeled pink double dandy , just the color my wife wanted . When I got home and planted it , it blossomed deep maroon . I called and asked what they could do about this and they said dig it up, bring it back , and get a pink one . I said " that's it ? " I now HAVE to drive 50 miles just to exchange it ?" The answer was yes from 3 different people, or they would refund me half . I was not happy with the offer so I told the manager I would bring it back myself for a full refund . The owner called 2 days later and said not to set foot back in his store. He offered a refund over the phone so I wouldn't bring the plant back myself and blamed the plant growers for his mistake . The owner said he would not have his employees treated the way I treated them ( he accused me of abusing them ). Needless to say I won't be spending my hard earned money with Nicholson Hardie again . I love this plant shop! Unassuming shop from the outside, but when you enter you are wowed by the assortment of plants and goods inside! Very charming and easy to maneuver layout. It smells so good when you enter, bonus! Out of all the plant shops in Dallas, this is probably my favorite one. There are so many types of house plants here including some hard to find ones. I can't say they have the best prices, but the plants here are healthy and look like they are well cared for. Beautiful orchids here if you're into that. Not very cheap either, but they are nice and healthy. I haven't had luck with those though. There is an outdoor area with bedding plants, outdoor plants, and larger plants. Checkout is in the middle of the store behind the front entrance. Definitely worth checking out this place for any plant lover! Friendly people inside. Tip: small parking lot, but you can usually find a spot. If you don't, just make a loop around and someone is bound to have left by the time you get back. read more

I mainly come here for the seeds. I've lived and gardened in several Texas cities and this Nicholson-Hardie (the one by the Toll Road) has the best seed selection of any brick and mortar store I know. They carry Baker Creek, Kitazawa, Seed Savers Exchange, Botanical Interests, and Native American Seeds. If you're interested in heirloom varieties, hard-to-find veggies, wildflowers, or Asian vegetables, this is the place for you. You usually have to order these brands online and pay for shipping. We're very lucky to have a local source. They also have a large offering of bulk seeds along the back wall. The organic fertilizer selection is decent, too. Plus, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a great selection of home goods, greeting cards, and houseplants. They also have unique colors of pansies and violas that will make your garden stand out. read more

Went to go browse this nursery for the first time. Ended up buying many plants even though I'd really thought I wasn't going to buy anything. Upon checking out I find out there is another location! I'm thinking I just bought all this stuff and I'm not even at the correct location??? Both locations are great but slightly different. Have to visit both! Why not. They're close to each other but one is more outdoor and ones more indoor and decor. I got some good stuff at both places. Mainly I am surprised I got a Monstera Adansonii. Great selection of exotic, tropical, indoor, outdoor, dessert plants. If you're looking for that special place that has plants and decor that no other nursery has - this is the place! I bought a beautiful 14" Jade plant that is rare and hard to find anywhere. If they don't have what you're looking for, they will certainly try to special order it for you. After having the Jade plant a few weeks, it did not respond well to watering and Texas high heat. The owner/manager was kind enough to replace it for me and ordered a new one. You don't get this type of service from chain stores. Extremely impressed with Nicholson Hardie!!! read more

I've been a customer of NH garden center and their nursery for many years. Their service and attitude was always subpar but attributed it to the Park Cities mentality. I happen to love orchids and African violets and have great luck and experience in maintaining them. Over the last few months, I purchased 7 African violets from NH ranging in price from $19.99 to $24.99. Sad to say that they all suffered the same demise which was they went limp and lifeless. Others purchased from another nursery are all thriving . I went to garden center and was directed to an employee who could barely speak English and he did not have an answer. Last week, I called garden center and voiced my concern and wanted to speak to maybe a manager. Later that evening I called again and spoke to a "Greg" who started to lecture me on how he grows his African violets. Ok, understandable , since he didn't know that I was experienced in house plants. I felt that the issue was with their vendor, Lone Star violets, and I asked for them to be notified . Anyway, he said he would call me back "momentarily" , but he never did. What a shame. I'm also a business owner in the same area and would never dream of ignoring a customer . Needless to say, they all went in trash. Also, lost a customer. read more

They lied to me about trees I was buying and said they would take full sun. They did not, plus they were infested and leaves were browning and had holes. They would only refund one tree because I had torn all the dead leaves off of the other tree. Additionally, the Manager, Jesse, was extremely angry and rude to me. Go somewhere cheaper. Their plants are outrageously expensive, and even if they have a Master Gardener to answer questions it doesn't do any good if they lie to you. Go to Northaven Gardens or Lowes or Home Depot. They'll take their diseased plant back. read more

I shop here frequently and have for the last 10 years. They have a wonderful selection of indoor plants at their location close to the Tollroad and exterior plants at their location west of Inwood. Sadly, I find the customer service to be quite hit or miss. I was shopping today for orchids and they literally turned the lights off in the entire flower/garden section at 5:50pm... 10 minutes before the store was to close at 6:00! Seriously! What high end store does that?! So I abruptly had to end my shopping and walk thru a completely dark section of the store to go buy my $150 worth of orchids. When I asked about the lights being turned off the counter person responded "Yes, we do that sometimes before the store actually closes." I was shocked and felt that was incredibly disrespectful to myself and the other customers shopping. I think the employees need to understand that closing at 6:00 means 6:00 and not 5:50 plus they need a refresher course on Customer Service 101. A once great store is going down hill. read more

This is an over the top nursery, landscape design, decorate your backyard, accessories and catch all store. Very unassuming from the outside, but once you step through the doors, you can be lost in the gardening section, pottery section and candles galore. They are very helpful as long as they are getting your money. I inquired about an item (which they said they would be discontinuing) and the manager refused to provide the manufacturer's name even though he said that he would not be continuing the product line. I had only asked in case I could not make it back to purchase the leftovers of what they had. Very disappointing and unbelievable for an established organization to act so slimy. Makes me wished I didn't make all those purchases I made in the past. After a little search I found the exact merchandise online (same size, style) but way less expensive than theirs. Their merchandise is nice but not many items there that you can't find elsewhere. I saw this place in passing and had to check it out. I have been wanting to add plants to my balcony. I went in with almost no idea what kind of plants to get. They directed me to the section that had the plants that require partial to full shade which is what I need. After I picked out my plants they helped me find low price pots (what I was looking for), and explained the care of each plant I picked out (watering, how well they do in shade/sun, and what to do when it gets cold outside). The customer service was wonderful and everyone was so nice. They had a good selection as well, and I had a better experience than if I went to a chain that sold plants. I will definitely come back when I am looking for more plants!! read more

I always enjoy going into Nicholson-Hardie to see what they have. Their buyers have a good eye and the products are high quality. The merchandise is displayed in a pleasing and artistic manner. Unfortunately things are overpriced, in my opinion, so I don't buy too much. The customer service is hit or miss; some of the employees are very helpful and some aren't. But I will still go in periodically to get inspiration and ideas. It's a good place to window shop. read more

Sun., 9/6/2020 was my First visit to N-H. The cashier was very friendly and helpful on the phone prior; also, she said hello to me upon entering the nursery. High Class garden center! Granted the price points are slightly higher than other garden centers; understandable so, as this is by Park Cities (as Mrs. Lovey T. Howl III would say, "Oh Darling, Highland $ Park you know.") You get what you pay for, in life. That is exactly why I came here for superior, Excellent, old-fashion customer service with a smile, impressive client care with "red-carpet" service. Love this place! Not only do they have a plethora of flowers, plants, they have candles, planters and unique accessories. The people here are knowledgeable as far as horticulture. Looking for Mediterranean Myrtle that, beautiful true Myrtle unlike those false "Myrtles" that people are so fond of in this area, has purple to red berries that you can make a liquor out of, and its leaves lend great flavor to meats, a piece of Sardinia I need to get back in my home. I called them last week, and they promised to call back and guess what... a week later they did! The search for Myrtle continues but they gave me other numbers to check... Awesome customer service! After a lousy experience at Jacksons (see the review), we went to N-H for a new design of our pool area. We were given an expert designer (Marcus) who was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. No pressure to buy, no rushing - only patience with our ignorance on landscape design. I'm so confused by the bad service comments. I go here exclusively for the service. They are always very patient with my lack of knowledge and also with my 6 and 8 yr old when they have projects. It's more expensive, but the plants are better taken care of before they sell them and I have never had any problems with bugs being transferred to my yard...unlike Home Depot. In addition, I know people who have murdered their plants and NH replaced them. Bad service? In general, I am a low price shopper, but Nicholson Hardie on Lovers is feel good place and for many plants, worth the price. read more
