Nhu's Tailor & Alteration - Main alterations room. - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Houston, Texas

The parking lot for this tailoring business is pretty tough to navigate, but Nhu is extremely talented fast and helpful. She thoughtfully had me try on my clothes so she could measure it exactly, discussed options, was forthright about pricing, and returned the item quickly. I would come back!! Nhu doesnt call when she's done-- I think she expects you to remember and come back to pic up your item, just fyi. read more

Nhu is an absolutely wonderful tailor and an even better human being. She was very patient in suggesting alterations and did not try to add things that weren't necessary. She was communicative and I love how my dress turned out! Would recommend coming here! read more

Nhu is pretty good but she's wayy overpriced. To alter 1 plain $40 dress may cost you $150. All I did was take a few inches off the bottom & made it a little tighter on the top. There definitely are cheaper places. Sorry Nhu. Love her energy though. read more

I don't have a ton of experience with alterations, so I was wary about the pricing, but Nhu made it worth the cost. She's incredibly kind and patient, and took the time to do two different fittings for my bridesmaid dress when other tailors have not been so generous. I saw some of the dresses she's made and they were beautiful! While I was there, other customers came by, and you can clearly see that Nhu is loved and has a loyal fan base. The only tip I have is to check the times she's open for business! I didn't read it and showed up on a Tuesday when she was closed, but that's entirely on me! read more

I love this place. They are always so sweet and accommodating, and it's affordable. Plus, it's centrally located so it's easy to pick up.

Nhu is so sweet and very reasonably priced. Love supporting a small business. She had impressive turn around time as well!

My wife and life partner loves beautiful clothes and footwear. The only material things she loves more are beautiful clothes that fit her perfectly. Yesterday, as I was unhappily "doing something close to nothing the same thing as the day before", she asked me to go with her to a shop for alterations of her latest purchases. "Which one?" I asked. She suggested local dry cleaners. I said, "I don't think that is a good idea. What will happen if they ruin the clothes. When will the work be done?" So, happy to have something to do that was "something close to nothing but different than the day before." (Yeah. I am a fan of Prince), I logged onto Yelp and quickly read Mrs. Nhu's reviews and suggested we go to her storefront (near Trader Joe's on S. Shepherd) It is nestled in a small strip mall with the TokTok Thai Massage, a barber shop and a vintage clothes store. I personally like the mix because it is a much smaller version of Montrose without the thick cloud of millennial hipster smug that I find uh. . . . or more correctly, ugghh. Mrs. Nhu greeted us at the door. She and her new customer immediately hit it off. Knowing I might prompt some laughter because I am often a punchline for people I don't want to know, I retreated to my portable man cave in the parking lot, turned on NPR and opened up an uncompleted Saturday New York Times Crossword. My bride emerged one half hour later. Very pleased with her choice. Mrs. Nhu is very experienced, works quickly, lets her customers try on the altered clothing. And, for us--retired and carefully budgeting--prices her work appropriately. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Nhu!!! She worked miracles on my bridal gown. I didn't have an emotional "Say Yes to the Dress" moment when I originally bought my wedding dress -- but I teared up with joy during my final fitting with Nhu. I brought in a difficult piece: an off-the-rack sample that was several sizes too big. She took in the entire fit-and-flare dress (which had a boned corset and intricate detailing), added a French bustle (adding extra attachment points for different looks), and closed the plunging neckline. My dress fit like a glove and looked like it was custom-made for me, which it basically was. Beyond this, Nhu is lovely. She gave me her expert opinion, didn't try to over-charge us or cut corners, patiently talked to my mom over the phone, and handled our pickiness with grace. She worked late into the night to incorporate our last requests on the dress. Nhu is a true seamstress. I can't recommend her enough. read more

Nhu is amazing! I love coming to her for all my alterations. Her quality is amazing and usually pretty fast turnaround. I brought her linen pants that pretty much needed reconstruction and she was confident about the work that needed to happen. Well worth it!!! read more

AMAZING. I went to Nhu earlier this week to fix a top for my engagement party, it ended up perfect. But then the shirt was ruined the day before the party by the dry cleaner. 5 hours before my party I was able to find a replacement dress that was too big, I went to Nhu in a panic & showed her what happened. She calmly told me she'd fix & have it ready for me in 2 hours. She even pressed it for me before which was such a nice surprise. read more

I have been here twice after a friend recommended it (as she had her own wedding dress altered here.) Once for a bridesmaids dress and another for my own wedding! Both times the dress was too big prior to alterations. For my wedding dress, I was pretty stressed as I bought a dress off the rack from out of state (which was 2 sizes too big, with intricate lace work on the bodice). I needed it tailored within 2 months and she came through big time it! It was done a few weeks before, fit perfectly, hemmed, bustled, and had straps added. The lace work was beautifully laid as well. It's extremely nerve wrecking to bring a one of a kind dress to another area to be worked on, but I knew I was in good hands! read more

Excellent work. Very reliable and on time. Nice owner and well established. Highly recommend.

The owner was as sweet as can be! Very unfortunate to not see her business as visibly due to the crazy construction going on Shepherd currently. Located near Kipling next to Trader Joes! But Good pricing and makes your clothes feel like new! read more

I'm somewhat vertically challenged, so nothing ever fits me right. Thankfully, the Yelp app helped me find Nhu's Tailor & Alteration. I was headed to a girls' trip and Nhu was able to fix two cocktail dresses the day before I left town. It was $60 to alter the two dresses and the rush fee, which is kinda pricey, but I really had no choice. Good thing is that they were ready the next day by 10am. Nhu's really kind, full of compliments (she thought I was still in college and insisted my dresses go shorter, that is, until I told her I'm damn near 30.) I'm a fan and will return with so many more dresses and jeans. read more

Nhu is awesome! Her work is impeccable!! She is very skilled and speedy. Her personality is great and she takes pride in her work.

Nice little shop. They did a great job tailoring my shirt and pans suit. The owner is a nice person and she even gave me a little discount. They clothes were ready in a few days. Parking is pretty tricky here. Few spots and the turn from the other side of the street can be killer. Overall, I think it's a good place. A bit pricier than other shops I've been around to, but I haven't had any problems with my pieces. read more

The alterations we needed were expertly executed and the service was wonderful. Can't recommend this business highly enough.

After many years of searching for a talented and affordable tailor, I found Nhu's located in River Oaks. She is kind, professional, and does amazing work. When I was getting married back in December 2015, I was looking for a quality tailor to hem my expensive reception dress. I was nervous about how it would turn out, but my worries soon melted away as I met with Nhu about the changes that needed to made for my dress! I asked for a quote first and it is a little more on the expensive side. However, the service and end result was worth it! I had brought in my shoes to try on with the dress and Nhu meticulously cut away the 5 layers of tulle. She was friendly and professional! The return time of my dress was 2 weeks. As you can see in the picture, the dress just barely grazes the ground so that I wouldn't step on it. I would definitely come back to Nhu's to alter other expensive dresses. read more

I probably shouldn't have jumped the gun and submitted my rating until after the day of the wedding, because the alterations proved to be subpar. My dress was dual layered and had a fabric underlay with a lace top layer, and so multiple bustles needed to be added- a total of 6. The day of the wedding, it took 5 people about half an hour to 45 minutes to locate the bustles on the dress, FOUR of which popped off during the reception. The bustle loops were too dainty and thin to hold the weight of the fabrics on my dress. In the end, safety pins proved to help, but at what cost? $400 for bustles that didn't bustle. read more

I had to get dress shirt altered before a job interview. Nhu did it on the same day and it fit so well afterwards. I would definitely use Nhu's services again. We are lucky to have people like her in town. read more

She's really sweet! I took my wedding gown ( mermaid style) to her about a month ago. Dress was due for pick up/ first fitting last Saturday. When I tried it on last Saturday I felt the dress was a bit shy of perfect! She pinned it and agreed to work on it again. Wednesday, I went back and this time my dress was a disaster! Creases everywhere, didn't fit well at all. She agreed to work on it again and make it perfect! Yesterday, she stayed in until 7 to make the dress fit right while I was waiting. She pinned it, took it to the back, sew it, and I tried it on. We did that 3 times and we finally got it right! I am ready for my wedding next weekend. I definitely recommend her! read more

Nhu saved my wedding day! After having a terrible experience with the seamstress at the store where I had purchased my wedding gown, I went to Nhu in a panicked state - only 2 weeks out from my wedding - to see if she could fix my dress. Not only did Nhu reassure me that she could fix it to my liking, she didn't even charge extra for the rushed time frame. She was very attentive, and even though I had just met her, I felt like she truly cared. Whereas I had walked in feeling panicked, I walked out feeling calm. Nhu had eased my nerves. I picked up my finished dress today and it is absolutely stunning and perfect. Nhu took it in on the sides and also added a bustle. I highly recommend Nhu! read more

Life saver. Brought a pillow cover here to have the zipper fixed that one of my dogs chewed up. Very reasonable prices. Warranty that I paid for doesn't cover broken zippers. And rooms to go said that it would take 90 days to receive a new pillow. This place saved my life. read more

If you are looking for a place to take your wedding dress look no further. Nhu's took wonderful care of my dress and I was very impressed with her overall service. I needed a decent amount taken in from the hips up, which meant remaking the back panel of the dress, and with just one fitting Nhu nailed it! I arrived 6 weeks later and it fit like a glove, I was truly impressed. It's hard to trust someone with something so important but she did an amazing job and I would recommend her to anyone. Nhu was a serious lifesaver. The tailor I originally scheduled for my wedding dress alterations went out of business suddenly and I was scrambling to find someone! I had about a month before my wedding when I walked in her shop and it was seriously a blessing. Not only is she a dream to work with, but her work was impeccable. I will say that the cost was a bit more than I was expecting but not completely outside the realm, especially considering the quality. For all of my visits, there was a constant stream of people coming in so it's obvious she's very popular in the neighborhood. This lady is seriously making a killing off of people naive enough to pay for her overpriced services. But I suppose since the demand is there, she keeps her prices inflated. Case in point; I wanted to make a simple, sleeveless dress with material I purchased on my own. For this, she quoted $500 claiming custom made clothes are expensive. This is not my first, or tenth time making custom clothing so I am aware it can be pricey, but not outrageous (especially given the style requested). I went elsewhere and for the same style, I was quoted $100 by a male tailor a friend suggested. The tailor had numerous sytles waiting for pick up and the ones he showed me were tastefully done. He also lines most of his work at no extra cost. My friend even sent me a picture of the dress he made for her and it was very figure-flattering. Nhu might be good at what she does but this is Houston... there are other people who can replicate or outdo what she does for a fraction of the cost... including alterations. You just have to be willing to drive out of this section of the central Houston bubble. BTW, she wasn't at all "nice" as some people have mentioned. She's probably nice to the people who pay for her services, or people who fit a certain profile. read more

I am exceptionally choosy when it comes to getting my clothes fitted because I am considered small even by Korean standards. I won't share with y'all the horrible experiences I've had walking out of places like MW as a teenager with a "tailored" clown suit. I miss my tailor in Philly, and so a shameless plug for Royal Custom Tailor in center city. Nhu has a gift for faces, not to mention a sharp eye and skilled hands. I think that more than anything, what makes her so darn good at her job is that she seems to never forget her client. I've seen dozens of people come in and she remembers their tailoring preferences and is able to pick up the conversation with them exactly where it left off. It's hard to describe, but she has a motherly vibe. You know she's going to do a good job without question, but you should also know that she won't repeat any mistakes more than once or twice. Prices here are completely reasonable for the level of work. I've had dozens of work shirts and pants, and even an ugly suit from my teenage years transformed from formless blobs into sharp, second skins. She has a very reasonable policy for any rework that you need. I also appreciate the input she has to provide. Sometimes when you aren't quite sure what the best fit is, a good tailor like Nhu can step in and help shape your personal style. Nhu is a neighborhood staple, the best kind of small business owner who recognizes that people, not clothes, are her business. Working with her never feels like a transaction, but more a relationship between neighbors. If you're like me and value the quality of interaction as much as the product you receive, know that you will not be disappointed. It's been a two year journey, but after flying back to Philly to get work done, I've found my new tailor in Houston. read more

You get you pay for. Nhu's is certainly not cheap. If you go, expect to pay a lot. That said, I can say without a doubt, she has done the best work out of any tailor I have gone to in the city. I've tried about four tailors. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. All of the other tailor's I have tried have been ok, but not perfect. Nhu, has always nailed her work. Amazing attention to detail. My clothes come out fitting exactly how I want them, and the attention to detail, and quality of work like the thread she uses, stitch, etc is top notch. For very simple things like hemming pants, etc I use a cheaper tailor near my house. For things like taking in business shirts, sports coats, suits, shortening shirt sleeves and things like that I go to Nhu's. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! I am an OCD dresser when it comes to my work wardrobe. I love collecting sports coats, suits, and ties. I have brought Nhu at least half of my dresswear wardrobe and they have made everything look tailor-made. The quality of the work is perfectly on point, and Nhu is an amazing tailor! Outside of the quality of product they are very friendly and courteous. This place is always packed with brides from the area, which we know are not easy to please, and they are always walking out happy. Highly recommend if you want good results. I once brought her a thrift store vintage sports coat that was way too big, but beautiful, and she tailored it to make it look like I had it handmade for me in Italy. This is my go to spot for getting dapper! read more

If it wasn't for my procrastination, I wouldn't have found nhu! I didn't know any good tailors in town that I could trust or friends that recommended me any for their dresses but finding Nhu was a hidden gem and all thanks to yelp searching! 2 weeks before my sisters wedding, I needed to get my dress altered and hemmed. I called on a Sunday since yelp didn't list the business hours and she actually answered. Even though they weren't open on Sunday and she happened to be there for a clients fitting, she let me come in on an emergency. After I showed her what needed to be done, she knew she could fix it and get it to me in time for my sisters wedding. Nhu is the sweetest lady and she did a great job working on my long flowly chiffon bridesmaid dress. It didn't even look like work was done on it. The price was a bit pricey but it was pretty last minute and in times of desperation, I didn't mind spending the extra $$. read more
