This review is long overdue but this tailor literally saved my banquet dress for my convention back in August. I showed up with my dress needing new nude lining in the cleavage area and the fit was weird. I ordered it online and like an idiot I tried to fix it myself. Had no time to fix it before heading to Houston for the convention and I was panicking. Mr. Chinh out of the kindness of his heart chose to help me last minute and fixed my dress. He kept adjusting it until it was perfect. While I was waiting I observed his interactions with other customers and he has the most integrity I've seen in a tailor. He educated a young man on the proper measurements for his suit and explained how what he was requesting would be too costly for him and may not even look good. He could've easily charged him an exorbitant price and done what was requested but instead he was honest with the young man and gave him other options and a place to buy better fitting suits. Other customers I spoke with in the sitting area sang his praises as well. And the price he charged me was way less than I expected or that I've ever paid for simple alterations in Dallas. I actually didn't get my dress tailored here but I am so thankful of them. I came in with the intention of getting my dressed altered for a wedding. It was a week before the wedding and I was told it would be done in time. I tried on the dress and then the heels, after inspecting the dress he told me I didn't need an alteration. Showed me why that was and gave me tips on how to zip up so I don't struggle. He could of easily charged me to make money, but instead told me I didn't need to spend money the dress was fine at that length. For future alterations I will always come here. read more

Watch what he writes on your receipt. Keep your receipt! He may say one price, but writes another. If you don't catch it... you better have proof. I have been here a couple times with great results but this visit not so good. I had some cleavage sown together due to me not having enough boobs lol. I was rushed from beginning to end. We agreed on a price in store an again I was being rushed so I just grabbed my receipt and left. When I made it home I realized he put a completely different total. It was a Sunday they were closed so I called. The man assured me "No problem, I wrote wrong number." When I arrived on Tuesday to pick up my item 1. You guessed it I was rushed, I allowed a gentleman to go in front of me so I may have his attention, I also brought more items to conduct business but by the end of talking to him, it was a NO for me. 2. I brought the item in on Saturday, we agreed on Tuesday for it to be ready. He disclosed that my item wasn't ready yet an I see his assistant working on my item. 3. The item was complete in no time since it was just adjustable cleavage. But I was very aggravated that it wasn't done an scared they rushed job it last minute, but it was fine. The BIGGEST problem I had was he still tried to charge me this made up price. Watch what he writes on your receipt and keep your receipts! He assured me he didn't know what I was talking about, shammed me for not having my receipt on hand. I went over everything he said to me over the last days but I assured him it was fine an just to charge me what he liked, I have a wedding to attend on Thursday. After having words about the situation for a few minutes he finally honored his word an charges me the original agreed price. It was embarrassing to go back an forth with him especially in front of other people/ customers I already stand out enough. Horrible service! The male tailor ignored me and denied me service for approximately 25 minutes, while servicing or attempting to service three other customers who came after me . This tailor refused to so much as even put a pin in my suit jacket for 15min. Before he even put a single tailoring pin in my jacket, he took a phone call and searched 7 min for someone else's finished order. When he eventually returned to me, yet another customer walked in. The male tailor then proceeded to ask me to step aside for this, now third customer. I felt completely disrespected. I am a black man. The customers who seem to receive preferential treatment were white individuals, one male and two females. read more

Three days to get an off-the-rack two piece suit altered, which included: taking in the sides of the blazer, bringing in the waist of the pants, tapering at the ankle, and hemming. read more

The hubby and I love this place! Though located in an awkward part of town, with a nonexistent parking lot, the service here is stellar and the prices superior to many other tailors in the area. The hubby came to get his jeans shortened- for $10. I then returned to have a pair of dress pants tailored-$27. Definitely worth it. This tailor is great! I've taken in several things and each has come out wonderfully. I think a lot of people expect tailors to be super expensive (and some are) but the prices here are good. $25 to take in a dress, jeans around $12 each for a hem and couple tucks. $35 to take in the chest of a jumpsuit and add some elastic for a better fit. What really impressed me, though, was recently I brought in a dress that I bought in Italy. That was a trip I never thought I'd go on for various reasons, and this dress was bought in Venice, the city of my dreams since I was a small child. It was probably $8 USD, low quality, did not fit quite right, two different layers of fabric, but I love the concept and design of it. I'm extremely emotionally attached to this dress. So I took it in to Chinh and asked... anything you can do? It doesn't fit and it's weird and.... he stopped me right there. Yes, of course they can take it in. A few nips, tucks and pins later my cheesy, weird dress was ready to become a beautiful piece of my own. Doesn't matter whether it's an $8 dress or an $800 dress... they can do it! Parking is complicated as it's only a small driveway shared with another building, but there are neighborhoods nearby which offer plenty of space, so just park around the block. Efficient, quick, friendly. This is a great business and it is worth supporting them! read more

This incredibly sweet man who you will find out is a tailoring wizard, genuinely asks you how you are. He remains totally calm and gives you all the attention in the world as several more customers come in behind you. - You ask him to work magic: "Um, idk how but can you make this look more flattering?...can you make this one appropriate for work despite high cut slit?" He lays out your options and warmly tells you, "next time don't go out and buy the fabric you think you want me to use, I have so much fabric here and that way you don't waste your money buying too much!" - He adds it up and you are AMAZED at the low prices!!: - take in a skirt: $15 - add a pleat underneath dress slit: $10 - turn long sleeves into short: $10 - I also appreciate his honesty: once I brought in a blazer that looked boxy and i wanted it fitted, and he explained why it wouldn't work and what to look for next time I buy a blazer expecting to be able to tailor it. - finally, fast turn around! I heard one customer getting same day service. I had no rush so I said I was good with whenever, and his version of no rush was 3 days! -this is definitely no frills, but the man knows his stuff. This is a third tailor I am using in Houston. Phnom Penh shop in midtown was closwd so I turned to yelp and I'm glad I have. I am very happy with the service. I took two pairs of pants to be taken in and to my surprise I was told that it would be done in 2 days. While all tailor shops advertise same day service from experience that generally means at least a week. Once I had to wait for a month for repair. Therefore, a two day service was a great 'feature'. I went to Chinh Tailor to get my (non-traditional wedding) dress hemmed for my courthouse wedding. I went based on the glowing reviews I saw, and they weren't exaggerating! Here is how my experience went: 1. The other reviews that mention that the parking situation can be a bit tricky weren't wrong, but since I knew that going in, I just drove around the block and parked on a side street. 2. I went in and was greeted and they confirmed that I was the one who would be wearing the dress (rather than getting it hemmed for someone else). I was directed to a little changing area behind a curtain and put on my dress with the shoes (if you're getting a dress hemmed, always bring the shoes you'll be wearing!). 3. They helped me hook and zipper the back (and gave me a few helpful tips like that! Apparently, when putting on a dress like mine, you should always hook the top clasp in the back, and then zip it up. When taking the dress off, you should unzip and then do the clasp. This is supposed to help keep the zipper from breaking/wearing out) and then I stood on a stool while they asked me where I wanted the hem at (the floor, the top of the sole of my shoe, or the top of my shoe). They then used an amazing little chalk contraption to mark where I wanted the hem to be. They also had me look at the dress from different angles to make sure it didn't gape at the breasts when viewed from the side, etc. 4. I changed and gave them my dress. They gave me a claim ticket, told me my total, and then asked when I wanted it by. I was in no huge rush so I went with a week later, but another woman came in while I was there and she asked to have hers done by the next day, which they had no problem with. 5. I waited a week, called to confirm that my dress was ready and that they take credit cards (they do, for those wondering!), and parked on the side street again. Be sure to bring your claim ticket with you! 6. They got my dress (it took them a moment to find it -- it looks like they do some serious business), I tried it on to confirm that everything is how I wanted it, changed, paid, got some tips about how to store it, and was on my way! It was a great experience! I have no idea about tailor pricing, but about $40 to have a lined maxi dress hemmed with pretty short notice in a major city like Houston seemed reasonable to me. They made me feel really comfortable and I learned more about garment care. I am usually a jean and t-shirt sort of girl, but I'm hoping to go to them the next time I need jeans hemmed or work clothes tailored because I would love to be able to continue to support them! read more
