These guys are good. I had a couple pairs of pants hemmed. Hemming is not a difficult job. So what I judge them on is turnaround time and price. Price $10 a pair (cheap) Time 3 days (fast). Very pleasant service at reasonable prices. I arrived 30 mins to closing time with a request to repair a dress and jacket I needed the following day for a wedding. I came in to get a pair of (expensive) bootcut jeans turned into skinny jeans, and I was less than thrilled with the results. It cost $30 which to me seems like a lot - perhaps this request was more work than I thought. 'D sliced my hand, so wasn't able to try on the jeans there. When I did so at home, I found the jeans were made into straight leg vs skinny and shorter than I requested by a good amount. I'm short, but I like my skinny jeans to bunch a little at the ankles. Clothes were not even started the day I was told to pick them up. When they were finally ready, they were not finished correctly. Dropped them off once again, decent work. Some time ago, I bought about 20 long sleeve Polo shirts (retail about $100-130 each) that I got for an incredible bargain online (about $20-30 each) at an end-of-year sale. The only problem is that, being 6'6'', I had to buy tall man sizes and the sleeves were all too long to where they mostly covered up my hands. I tried to wear a couple of them, saying to myself "it doesn't look 'that' bad...", but I knew they were ill-fitting and I looked pretty sloppy. So I resigned myself to the unhappy fact that I was just gonna have to sell them on eBay, LetGo, etc. and not be able to wear these great looking shirts that I got a price that I would never pay for at full retail. Then a buddy of mine suggested Mr. Chinh. Being no stranger to Tha Tre (that's 3rd Ward for those who don't know what I'm talking about), I'd driven past this unassuming shop for 25+ years or more, but never paid much attention to it. Well, I'm glad I listened to my boy's advice. Mr. Chihn shortened the length of each sleeve to fit me perfectly, and did so the proper way by removing the cuff and the placket. This procedure takes a great amount of skill to make look right. So much so that a half-dozen other tailors I called wouldn't even attempt to do it, and the other 2 or 3 that would wanted to charge double or triple what Chihn charged. Long story short, all my shirt sleeves were beautifully done and fit perfectly. They looked like they came from the factory. And on top of it, Chinh gave me a 20% volume discount to boot. He's done some other work for me since and it also turned out flawless. I've never done a Yelp review in my life, but felt compelled to give this one as it's well-deserved. If you want clothes that you'd given up on to look and and fit better than you ever imagined, while at a very fair price, go see Mr. Chihn. He'll hook you up!! read more

Chinh was extremely careless on my order. I brought in 3 pairs of NEW jeans, a coat and a few sweaters. Each pair of jeans needed different tailoring (hemming, sizing, etc...) Chinh did the same thing for ALL 3 pairs. He ruined 2 new pairs of jeans, when only one pair needed to have excess fabric cut away. Now I have 2 super skinny jeans that don't even fit. I also brought in a coat that needed to be let out. Chinh told me there was enough fabric to let the coat out 4 inches. However, only 2 inches were let out and he did not even replace the missing button that I had requested. The coat is not a big deal, but I just wanted to illustrate his carelessness. To the shop's credit, they did attempt to remedy the situation. However, the clothing has already been ruined beyond repair and there's nothing short of Chinh paying for my ruined clothes to make things right. Stay away, you have been warned. read more

I've had 2 pairs of jeans hemmed here, and 2 dresses resized. An excellent job was done on all of the pieces. The dresses in particular were very well done - I asked him to remove built-in shoulder pads as well as reshape the dress for a better fit, and he did it all for I think $20 for one dress? It was quite a bit of work for not much at all. Hemming pants will run you $10-12. All in all, I highly recommend this place. It's become my go-to spot. read more

After having a pair of pants ruined by the seamstress at West Gray Cleaners, I came here to have them fixed along with 3 other pair of pants and 3 skirts. All of my items were perfectly tailored, and the pricing was reasonable ($15-20 per piece, depending on what needed to be done and if it was lined or not - compared to $35 at West Gray for a shoddy job). I've been to several tailor shops (in the rice village and the chinatown--bellaire area) before arriving at Chinh Tailor, and I honestly am very happy with the service here so far. I am extremely body-conscious and my clothes need to compliment the hard-work I endure in the gym and Chinh did a great job, every time, to make that happen. At other places, I have different people pinning the clothes for adjustment on different visits (usually for the first time the owner would do so but as I became a regular, they slacked off the quality of the work declined); not here, it's Chinh every time pinning the clothes as I am wearing them: he would go through every details and discuss how he'd fix it and if he could fix it at all (if he couldn't or if it'd turn out badly after the fix, he'd tell me and refuse to accept the job even if it'd be a revenue loss for him!!). He also tells me what alterable details to look for in certain types of garment when shopping and what type of clothes that would never be fixable for my figure and expectation. I have several of my expensive clothes from major brand labels fixed here and they all turn out great. I have mostly shirts, t-shirt, tanks, and shorts done so far but I will come back for my formal wears pretty soon since the work has been exceptional so far. Pricing is extremely fair (if not even cheaper compared to some other places around town): mostly 10-15 bucks for minor changes such as sleeves shortening/ hemming/ zipper fixing/ general tightening of the garment for better fit etc. Other complicated works may cost a bit more but it's always comparable to the fabulous outcomes. Turn-around time is always good. There was one time that I have a sleeve shortened but after trying it on, I wanted it to be shorter and he just did it right then and there while I was waiting with no additional charges. Pretty good place with good friendly services and decent price. read more

I took a satin high low dress with double layer to get altered. I was priced about $100 at another location and I was able to get it altered at Chinh tailor for $75. I told them i was not in a hurry got dress back in 2 weeks. They were super speedy and the dress looked fantastic. I took my dress home and I changed my mind in wearing my newly altered dress for my event. My event was a week away and I bought a new dress and I brought the new dress to get altered and they altered it in 3 days as I needed it ASAP! They altered my bust area and shorted the dress for $60. I had also dropped off my mother dress for the same occasion it was a one layer dress that was shortened and i was charged $25. I was told to come get both my dresses the same day and when i came to get the dresses my mothers dress was not ready! But they busted their tails right in front of me and has it ready in an hour!
