Years and years ago, when I had the perfect supermodel body and was the elusive size 2, I came to this seamstress to have my Vanessa Riley gown tailored for my senior prom. My gown was absolutely gorgeous and very high end, but unfortunately it was a bit too big in the waist area (the dress was a size 4). I bought the dress anyway and sought the help of S H Tailor. Not only did she alter the dress perfectly to fit my body, but she also reinforced my hemline. Oh, and she did this all in five days. Knowing that most of beauty queens around Houston come to her for her services, I thought that was very quick! When I wore my gown it was so beautiful and unique to my body and I felt great all night. So that was then and this is now. Since that time, I never went back for anymore alterations. To be honest, I actually simply forgot about this place. However, now that my body has changed drastically (ain't no size 2 anymore lol) I remembered how great and professional this place is and decided to come in a few days ago to have a few of my clothing altered. Especially my jeans. I have a small waist and a big butt (Oh, hey Kim! Hey, Nicki!) and my jeans have always never fit right around my waist. It always created that weird space around my lower back. Anyways, I put on my jeans and she puts pins around the area where I wanted my jeans to hug my curves. She is really busy around this time so if you're in a rush bring in your clothes a few days earlier if you have an event to go to where you would need to wear your clothes that are being altered. I found out about this place from a FB page I follow. Someone on there was asking on the group page for recommended tailors and this place had so many recommendations so I decided to take my bridesmaid dress here to get altered. I am just SO SOO happy I did! Not only is the turn around time on your clothes extremely quick for how busy they seem to be. The owner Ms.Thanh is THE sweetest and most kind person I have met in a long time. She is also super picky (which is a good thing) I came in the first time to get it altered and I didn't bring my heels with my dress and she said she takes a lot of pride in her work and wants it to come out right and she did all the other measurements for alterations and told me to bring my heels back the next time to try it on so she can get it hemmed correct so I don't trip. Anyway, my dress came out perfect and I picked it today feeling so happy and at home like I just left my auntie's house. I just love that! Thanh is pretty awesome and she's looking out for your best interest. I took a jacket in to take in the shoulders ($45-80) at other places and she said that it was unnecessary and charged me $25 to bring the jacket in from the back. It took care of the problem and she has also worked on my pants and a winter coat. Overall, I've had no issues and her work is fantastic. A big plus is that she accepts credit cards! read more

I just had my wedding dress altered here. I had a lot of headache and stress dealing with this store for the 2 months that they had my dress. I do have to state that the final end product was ok. It was definitely not what I wanted but I was still able to wear it on my wedding day and look decent. But what bride wants to just look decent on their wedding day? The problem was mainly with the whole process of the alterations. And I believe the owner does not do any or most of the actual alterations/sewing. I saw a lot of workers in the back working on dresses. The problems I had with the owner were with communication, pricing, and the mistakes she and/or her staff made to my dress. Mistakes: When I came in for my second fitting, my dress had a 2.5" oval tear in the skirt and also a dirty stain!! These were definitely not there before so I'm sure either the owner or her staff did that to my dress. I asked her if she could fix these things and she said yes. I am not one to be confrontational otherwise I would have made a bigger deal about it at the time. Anyway, my next fitting with her would be 2 weeks later, and during these 2 weeks I was very upset and nervous about the outcome of my dress. I wasn't sure how she could fix the tear because it was in a very visible spot in the front left of the skirt area close to mid section. My dress was pretty simple/flowy and made of silk organza, so it did not have any beading or fluff to cover the tear. When I came back in 2 weeks, she had gotten rid of the stain and it looked like she "fixed" the tear by taking off alot of material from the skirt where the tear was located and then resewing the cut areas together. And it looked like she had to do it to the other side of the dress as well to make it look even. So the end result was that there was a lot less fabric on the skirt of my dress and it did not have the "poofy" feel and look that it had before. AND there were 2 seams now in the front where there wasn't before. So technically she did "fix" the tear, but by fixing it, she made the dress look totally different than the original. She also cut my train a lot shorter than I wanted. Her excuse for the loss of all that fabric was so that it would make me look skinnier. It seemed to me that she had a lot of excuses to cover up her mistakes. Also, at one of the fittings, she made the top of my dress extremely tight and it required 2 people to zip me up, and so when I tried it on, I had so much frontal and back fat hanging out...it was very unappealing to say the least. I asked her if it was too tight, and she said no, and that it made me look skinnier. I believe she just didn't want to make anymore work for herself to have to adjust it. I ended up having to lose 6 pounds to have less fat hanging out.(Note: I was 5'6" and 143 lb.) Pricing: When I first brought my dress to her to get an estimate on alterations she told me $300. I did go to another bridal alterations place who gave me an estimate for $250. I ultimately ended up going with SH Tailor because her store was a pretty good size and neat, she sold me on how good she was, and she had lots of photos of girls in their pageant and dance dresses. I also figured a $50 difference would not be that much. However, when I came back a month later she told me it would be $350! At this point I did not have much of a choice to go back to the other alterations place because it was already about 2 months til my wedding and I just wanted it to get done. Communication: At my first fitting she told me to buy a bra and a cup so she could sew it into the dress. I brought the bra and cups to her and asked her if she can do it so that I can still save the bra after my wedding (since it was kind of a pricey bra) . When I came back for my second fitting, I was surprised to see that she just attached the bra to the inside of the dress instead of sewing it INTO the dress. She told me she did it this way so I could still save the bra afterwards. However, when I tried it on, I could see the bra when I looked down and I did not want the bra to show in photos or for people to see the bra when I bend over. So, I told her to just sew the bra into the dress because I wanted the bra to be hidden and I didn't care if she had to cut the bra to do it. When I came back for the 3rd fitting, SURPRISE! She did not sew the bra into the dress like I had asked. Her reasoning was she wanted to save the bra for me and she could just adjust the seams a little bit to hide the bra. I only wish she could have called me to tell me these things beforehand instead of me being shocked each time I came in for a fitting. Again, the end result was wearable, but definitely not what I imagined it to be. I'm not sure if I was just unlucky or if she does this to a lot of wedding dresses. Either way, I would not bring any more clothes here. read more

I'm so surprised she doesn't have any reviews yet! My sister-in-law came here to get her wedding dress altered and so when it came time for me to get my wedding dress altered I decided to try SH tailor. Thanh, the owner is the sweetest woman ever! She turned my ball gown wedding dress into an A-line dress for my destination wedding. I had about 4 fittings, she first adjusted the top of my dress to make it tighter, then worked on the million layers of tulle, then the hem and lastly, the bustle. I know my dress was a pain to work on but never once did she comment on it. She does a ton of alterations on pageant dresses, prom dresses, wedding dresses, and I've seen a few men come in to get their suits altered too. I would definitely recommend her. I just wish she was closer to me because she's in the Bellaire area and I live in Missouri City. But, she's open until 6 during the week so I could always come by after work. Thanh has been my tailor for over 10 years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else! (I've been traveling from Cypress to her shop in Bellaire for almost that long!) Whether its letting out a hem, altering pants or a suit to give it a custom fit or handing her a picture of an outfit and material for her to duplicate (without a pattern, I might add), she can do an amazingly professional job on anything I've given her!! In addition, if I need something altered within a certain time frame, she always has it ready for me. This vietnam lady really has some attitudes towards Asian. I simply called her this morning and politely ask whether she can help me alter my wedding dress because it is way too small and I wondered can it be done next week for my wedding. Then she just kept blaming me why asked her at the last moment, and I told her I only got my dress a month ago and I thought I could lose some weight. Then she kept complained that, people always find her at least a month ago and get the dress done one week before wedding. Plus, she said she was busy with so many jobs on her hand. To this moment, I still think she could just say: I am sorry but we don't accept rush work. I don not deserve your fuxking judgement OK?！The last straw pissed me off was when she said: there is NO STORE can alter your dress in this short time. So, I just said bye then hanged up.
