This is my "I'm busy working and I need something to eat for lunch and fast" place. I prefer to get a burger and fries. I have also had the fried chicken sandwich. The fries are my favorite thing to order, so sometimes that's all I pick up. I usually pick up at off times, so service isn't the best off of the standard meal times. I find I have to wait around quite a bit. But they do have a lot of little extras I like to those tiny bags of Doritos my mom used to pack in my school lunches, sweet potato pie slices, and even take out alcohol drinks when we were deep in the pandemic. I can also easily walk here, which puts it top of the list for last minute take out meals. When I eventually move, I will miss it. Super convenient, and solid tasty food. read more

Friday Night Dining with #thoseWilliams ‍. In CELEBRATION of Black History Month we will be dining with a Black Owned Restaurant every Friday this month! Tonight: Soul food @nextphazebaltimore. They are not fully open for dine in yet, but they so kindly allowed us to do so. Customer service was excellent and so was the FOOD and Drinks ! Donell had the catfish platter with greens & Mac n . He said it was Delicious and the catfish would make a good po'boy (rating 9). I had the bayou pasta with chicken and shrimp. The pasta was so creamy and it was plentiful (rating 9). Alyse had the honey old bay wings (her FAV) platter with fries & Mac n . She enjoyed it all (rating 9). She said there could've been a little more old bay on the wings (she's a Bmore girl ‍). Cornbread came with each platter. And we also got sweet potato pie for dessert which Donell said was Delicious! I'm saving mine for later with whipped cream!! The drinks are totally worth the money, and the live entertainment is something I've been missing and searching for on the Baltimore scene. I've been twice this week and my first time was Sunday! I came here for the first time for karaoke night. They had one server. One. There were about 40 of us there and naturally she struggled. I ordered salmon with collards and fries. An hour later....I'm still sitting with an empty place setting. I inquired with the waitress and she mentioned that she would check. Fifteen minutes go by and she hadn't returned. I then walked up to the counter and shared that I'd ordered over an hour ago and to cancel it because I was leaving. The cook and manager overheard and asked what I ordered. I told them and the cook said that they ran out of salmon some time ago. My face..... I go to walk away and the manager begged me not to leave. He told me to order anything else and that he would pay for it. I ordered the grilled catfish, collards, and fries. I then went to look for the waitress. I shared with her that there isn't any salmon in stock. She said she didn't know the kitchen was out. Soon other customers are coming up frustrated because they had no service or were waiting a long time for food. About 20 minutes later, my food comes. Here is where the good news start. The catfish was dynamic! It was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The collards were everything. It was seasoned well without being salty. I ate in pure delight. Unfortunately, our entire table ended up with free food. The service was that horrible. I was disappointed as this is a black owned establishment. I do appreciate the manager taking responsibility and compensating our meals. The quality of their food earned them grace. I definitely intend to give them a second chance. For now, I say, come with low expectations in the service but be amazed by the food. The chefs are definitely skilled. read more

Had jury duty, and someone from work had told me there was a new Southern food spot near the Courthouse. As a transplanted Memphian, I have had a hard time finding well seasoned Southern food in Baltimore. This place does it right. The catfish tenders were fried expertly and the fish was moist and flaky. The sauce, which was a template, was amazing for dipping. But the collard greens...wow...they were perfect. The right texture and seasoned like they should be. I am full, happy, and don't even care if I get sequestered on a jury if they let me order food from here during the trial! read more

If you're looking for a place to come when on jury duty, look no further -- great value and right around the corner from the courthouse. So the food and service here was AMAZING!!! My dining companion and I both had the crab cake sandwich. I was concerned the crab cake would taste like it contained mostly batter and not enough crab but that was put to rest after my first bite. I tried it without the sauce they included first and the sandwich was pretty good on its own. Once I added the sauce it took the taste to another level. We had the honey lemon pepper wings as an appetizer. I never heard of that combination for wings but trust me...it was amazing!!! I liked everything...the crab cake sandwich, the fries, and the wings. I wish this place was in DC. Also the service was incredible. From the person who took our order, the bar tender who made our drinks while we waited for our food, as well as the manager who on the premises; he checked many times to make sure we were taken care of. I really appreciated that. The bar tender gave us a good pour on the drinks. Also while we were waiting I did observe the staff packing lunches for what looked like a charity event they were preparing for the next day. I know I'm two weeks late writing this review but I was way too relaxed after having their fantastic food. I can't wait to go here again. I loved it. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Also, from what I can tell this place is black owned, if that means anything to you. I liked it and I would like to continue to support. The catfish sandwich is incredibly delicious. The seasoning on the fish is perfect. The breading is crunchy and the fish is flaky. The fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned as well. I ordered delivery, and the fries were actually still crispy when they arrived, which is generally not the case for most restaurants. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future. I went around 2 on a Saturday afternoon. The quick service did not compromise my meal. I ordered fried catfish and collard greens. The crust on the catfish was truly amazing. It appeared as if the breading complimented the filet. It was crispy with a pleasant crunch just before you reach the thick layer of the firm, but moist inside. I wish the platter offered more than one piece. However additional were available for a just under $10 a piece. The collard greens were tender, not soggy. The cut was manageable. I found the not overly or under seasoned. Definitely not salty or vinegar based. One plus I do not take for granted was the plastic fork. It was sturdy with tines longer than a cake fork. A muffin shaped Cornbread came with the meal which I have not eaten at the time of this review. Only reason not 5no yams. read more

This place is really just okay. I haven't experienced the live entertainment. I still won't at this point (considering we're still living in a pandemic). I've tried the fried chicken wings platter with collard greens and mac and cheese. All of it was good, but not great. I make a better mac and cheese and the batter used for the wings was a little too salty. I've also tried the Cajun salmon. The salmon was cooked well but the "Cajun glaze" had a weird texture and wasn't good. The bayou pasta was also not good. A bayou pasta should have some kick to it. This dish is just a really cheesy and tasteless mess. I probably won't go back because the portions are also rather small for the prices paid. However, it is a short walk from my home. read more

Fish is cooked well and not sure what kind of sauce is given with it, but the flavors pair well together The mac & cheese and greens are seasoned well. Another favorite is the shrimp & grits. They appeared and tasted like they were fresh, breaded tenders and not frozen premade. They had a nice mildly spicy kick. Overall, a very good lunch. A new restaurant that's opened on Lexington Street right by the downtown courthouse. With limited lunch options for jury duty it would be a good choice that wouldn't break the bank. Next Phaze has wraps, sandwiches, and a variety of southern inspired seafood options. They have also recently increased their hours a few days a week to include a dinner service, with specific specials on Fridays (entree with two sides). For the most part the meals are well priced, and the restaurant itself is clean. I've only done pick-up orders, but the staff have always been nice. On the first first visit, I got the buffalo wings which, while not special, were cooked and sauced well. On the second visit I got the catfish fritters and fries. The fritters (think fish strips) were well fried and came with a tasty tarter sauce. The fries were good as well and topped with an herb salt. They do advertise some jazz nights but I haven't been able to try those. I settled on the 4-star rating because I think the restaurant accomplishes what it set out to do, and has something to offer the downtown market. The service at this place is going down hill! We live in the building next door and have frequently visited here over the last three years. Lately, weve gone in and for our usual dessert take out and have had a variety of worse and worse experiences. Tonight, we went in and placed an order for pie (after waiting in the mostly empty restaurant for while the counter attendant avoided coming to the counter). Eventually she came to the counter - we ordered- and she said she would need to go to the back to check if they had any left. (No problem). We then waited a full 15 minutes waiting as she checked on another guest (the only one in the restaurant) and then she received training instructions from a manager (on how to ring up a check) awhile we just stood there waiting. We finally just gave up. Guests should be the priority - wait to train someone until your guest that are standing there have been served. Too bad, the food here is great but the service has just gotten worse and worse. read more
