I ordered my meal on DD and it came pretty quickly and was still hot. I ordered the catfish platter with cabbage and Mac and cheese. The cabbage was really good. Seasoned well and not too mushy or overcooked. I really enjoyed it. The Mac and cheese was a good texture but it could have been seasoned a little better and a little more sharp cheese. But the consistency of the Mac was great and I did eat all of it. The fish was fried crispy and seasoned very well. I think the sizes of my pieces of fish were decent. No complaints. I'm a regular customer at Next Phase, and I truly enjoy the food and atmosphere, which is why I keep coming back. Now for the food, I ordered a Catfish Platter with string beans and Mac & Cheese. The catfish was fried nicely, no complaints. The Mac & cheese was flavorful but it wasn't my favorite and the string beans were good but they didn't taste super fresh. Overall the plate itself was 6.5/10. So I had jury duty. Otherwise I dont think Id have ended up here because where am I parking. Reading the other reviews seems like I need to check out Karaoke though. The place is a little dark its kind of in a half basement situation. Ms Peaches was so nice helping me order my wings with mac and greens and she laughed at me ordering a glass of Champagne at 1pm. The Mac had its own flavor and style which was a change from usual Mac's I've had in this area but I welcomed it because being honest the best Mac I've had here was at Chick-fil-A. I am not a fan of their cut because I do love stems but smaller ones would make this better than the Mac. Otherwise this was cooked very well. I went there on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday with friends and family. The place reminds me of like a cool jazz lounge you might find tucked away in New York City somewhere. Very nostalgic and I loved every minute of it. Our waitress was very accommodating and attentive. The man at the front door who was either the owner or the manager was very nice. Our food was beyond amazing. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, and the drinks were very, very, very strong! and if you don't drink, alcohol, the mocktails were yummy. The band performing that night was Cafe Red and they were perfection, they even gave me a birthday shout out. I had a nice time during my visit at this black owned business. My waiter was good. The owner was very nice and welcoming. You can tell that he really cares about his customers having a great experience. The food was delicious. I ordered the bayou pasta with chicken and salmon with a side of cornbread. Next Phaze Cafe has been in my black-owned restaurant foodie visit list for months. When I noticed that the restaurant offered delivery through Grubhub, I jumped at the chance to give them a try. Sad to say, my experience was just "ok". Their menu is very small and they don't offer many sides. I ordered the catfish for myself, shrimp and chicken for my sons. While the flavors were good, they were really something you would write home about. The restaurant doesn't have a niche, something that makes them standout amongst all of the soul food restaurants in Baltimore. I will say their prices are comparable to another restaurants, but the food is as forgettable. I will keep an eye on their menu with hopes that they will make some changes or add more options.
