The young gentleman at the front counter made the ordering process easy! He was very friendly & welcoming. I order a salad, which was pretty decent. However, the crackers out of their jar were stale. I told the young lady who bought my order out & she just looked at me like I was "slow"! She told some one who looked as if he was a manager & he didn't address the situation! The food is always great and for the most part all the employees are super sweet! There are one or two that seem to never be having a good day, but they still do their job. I am much disappointed in my favorite eatery. Ordinarily I would give it 5 stars, but the last 2 times we have eaten there, I got my usual 1/2 shrimp po'boy & salad. To my chagrin & dismay this premium sandwich is no longer 1/2 a sandwich. More like 1/4 - 1/3of a sandwich. Not only that you no longer get 6 shrimp, but only 4 shrimp & the price has remained the same. The first time it happened, we were dining in, but tonite's meal was a curbside pickup due to corona virus pandemic. It was a call in order & I requested remoulade sauce rather than cocktail sauce & the result was no sauce! I am so disappointed & feel let down by the eatery! Through the years I have cheered to see the company expanding into other states & their food is always fresh ( although the Caesar salad had more than it's share of the big romaine ribs & romaine leaves that seem to be bruised). I seem to see the freshness of the food not as good as it has been! Hope this is not the result of growing pains on the part of the company & don't want to see the excellence & freshness of the food compromised. Their record of supporting ovarian cancer research is wonderful & I know Lori was a rock star in her fight against this disease & she will always be remembered for her ceaseless efforts to fund research for this! The absolute WORST Newks in the area. Everyone just stands around, EVEN THE MANAGERS, and just play dumb. Like they literally have no idea what's even going on. I came into lunch today, and there was nowhere to sit because every table in the dining area was filthy, the floor looks like a Logans road house where you can just throw peanuts on the floor. May I add, it was not busy. Maybe before we came in, but we sat for a hour with nobody doing anything about it while there was 3 visible managers, and 4-5 servers just chillin in the kitchen. Also, I'm a dasher and pick up from there often. They treat us like we're such a nuisance, when we're the ones helping their business by delivering their food. Orders will be 15-30 minutes past expected pick up time (even during days when there's little to nobody in there). When we ask about it, they brush us off or huff and puff before proceeding to help. It's ridiculous. This is no exaggeration as me and other dashers have discussed this but we continue to accept orders from there because thankfully their customers are at least generous tippers. Please change. Probably start with the clueless management followed by the rude servers. read more

If only they had more vegan-friendly options, like adding avocado or tofu to their salads, I would gladly give them five stars. My family goes there for lunch pretty often and they are great. They are super kid-friendly, their food quality is extremely consistent, and their service is also very consistent and very good. I order a customized veggie pizza every time I'm there and they have never gotten my order wrong. It's great that they have their nutritional information online. The restaurant is always neat and clean. They always (when I've gone) have a fully staffed ordering counter and consistently greet customers when they walk in. They always read my order back to me and ask if I want a receipt. And they have freshly brewed iced tea with Splenda in it! And of course they have garlic cloves, sweet pickles, banana peppers, croutons, breadsticks, and Saltines on the condiment table. read more

I've never seen the rave about Newks. It's just ok food at best for a too high price. Pizzas are extremely greasy - so I steer away from those. I had Newks special salad recently and had maybe 1 whole grape with all the thin slices put together. Are you kidding me ! One artichoke! ‍ Maybe maybe 1 slice of chicken total. I finally found 3 pieces of pecans in the bottom. Moderate cranberries and really just a ton of salad greens for $11 bucks. Seriously ! Seriously ! You can do better than that. I like good food. DELICIOUS! This is a restaurant where you order first then go to a table and wait for your food to come to you. Had no problem with that. I came here during lunch rush so the manger apologized for the wait and gave me free dessert. Very happy with the service and attention to how the customers are. Food was delicious! I got the roast beef sub sandwich and a chaser salad. Very very good! Roast beef was very tender and had great mustard sauce. I felt very comfortable and enjoyed my first time there. This newks location has always been my favorite but lately the customer service has been terrible!! For example I tried to call in a take out order today, called 5 times during a 15 minute period, and didn't get an answer. So I went to the store and asked the manager why no one was answering the phone but he rudely said they didn't have anyone. I looked around and saw 5 employees and the manager all standing with in feet of the phone not doing anything but waiting for something to do. In my mind, seeing as I also work in customer service and know that sometimes if someone calls out I might have to fill in and do their job, one of those 6 people could have picked up the phone snd taken an order. Yum! One of my favorite places to eat while I was staying in Jackson. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, my favorite dish (half Cesar salad, w/ dressing on the side) varied from location to location. The one in Flowood did an amazing job of always providing the same salad, however in Brandon it was always a hit or miss. Be careful of the cheese on the condiment table (one bin is usually super fresh, and the other is stale and foul smelling). Also, the staff at the Newks in Brandon, were very rude, and we're not so quick to offer a replacement salad whenever they got the order wrong (hello! i'm paying $6.00 for some lettuce and cheese the least you could do is get my order right). This Newk's location has always been fairly decent over the numerous years it has been open. I am one of those folks who find something delicious and stick with it forever. I would say that an easy 8.5 times out of 10 visits the staff is friendly. This restaurant is always clean and the food is always fresh. The pizzas are yummy, but too greasy for my stomach to handle; if that doesn't concern you, I can personally recommend the spicy shrimp pizza dipped in a side of their homemade ranch. Yass, queen! My girlfriend loves the Newk's Q, but she seems to never get a consistent amount of the white BBQ, so she just asks for extra recently. The sweet tea is delicious! I'm picky concerning pimento and Newk's recipe is delicious - way overpriced for some cheese, but I usually cave in and get some a couple times a year. Although I haven't tried every menu item, I can recommend my favorites: the steak sandwich, the Royal (my absolute favorite, and typical order), Caesar and simply salad, their brownies and their homemade Rice Krispy treats that are about as big as my palm and like 2-3" thick. I wish they had better options for sides - one can choose from chips, fruit, bland pasta salad or an odd take on a black eyed pea salad (aka their "caviar"). The story I heard is that the people that started McAlister's Deli (and subsequently sold it for big bucks) also started Newk's. The result is a great casual restaurant with gourmet pizzas and sandwiches, fresh salads, and good hearty soups. Just a great lunch spot overall. Felt like getting Newked tonight. Have seen the places all over Jackson and finally decided to try it before I head to Chicago next weekend for a long while. Food was good, had the Italian with pasta salad. Friendly and helpful staff. Decided to get a dessert because I saw the awesome looking cakes, The Red Velvet was calling my name, so I got a piece to go. Once I got back to the place opened up my package to put in the fridge was a little disappointed...the piece of cake was about half the size of the piece they had sitting in the window. I like to give positive reviews, but lately the Flowood, MS area has been disappointing. The person that took our order was nice,but the person next to her was so freaking rude!! The person who took our order asked her a question and the rude person looked at her like she was stupid. It wasn't a stupid question. The same rude person took our family member's order and was extremely rude to him as well. The manager, on the other hand, was walking around delivering orders to tables with a smile on his face. They should fire the rude person. She ruined our experience there. I wish I would've gotten her name! I would call corporate office to complain about her. :( read more

Our family ate a late lunch at Newk's. The place puts me in the mind of a Panera, but with much more flavor. The Newk's Q sandwich was amazing! The pizza was also really good. The advertised "SEARED" Ahi Tuna Salad, should read "previously seared and refrigerated until sold". It also says "sushi grade" Tuna, but once opened and "seared" will become slimy as was the case of the tuna in my salad. While it was served ICE cold, the texture and flavor was proof it was definitely not fresh anytime recently. I mentioned this to a server who asked if I wanted to speak to management. I said no as I boxed up all but the one bite I took, however, he sent the manager out anyway. I really hate the way he treated me too. When he approached he asked, "do you need help?", I replied, "no, thanks." He persisted, so I repeated the same to him. For the life of me I cannot understand why he bothered coming out. Perhaps I was the problem because I wasn't satisfied, not the just-thawed tuna or the way it's advertised as "seared". It was clearly MY misunderstanding. He was very short and basically just said, "Oh, sorry, we don't cook to order" and walked away. Now, why would management approach to resolve or offer assistance if they only planned to place blame back onto the customer with a "sorry" "not sorry" attitude? That was as much of an insult as paying $21...yes, $21 for my (no others, just me) meal. I got the salad, $12.99, a sweet tea over $3 and I fell into the dessert trap when the cashier told me the "lemon whoopie pie" was fresh and soft and that's why she liked them. Nope. It was cold as ice and barely defrosted. A fork would not cut through it. How much? $3.99. I feel like I was duped on the entire meal. Sweet, the cashier gave me a $2 off coupon for my next visit. This is my absolute favorite place to stop for lunch. The best cole slaw ever. I always get the chicken salad sandwich with a side of cole slaw. Sometimes the cole slaw is different when I go in there, which can be disappointing because it has such a distinct flavor that when its off, you can tell. I went a long time without ordering anything else here, but then I started ordering the pimento mac and cheese since Newk's said there were no nuts kept around those ingredients so I should be safe ordering it. About a month ago I ordered this to-go and had a severe allergic reaction to it. I carry Epipens around, but even with medication, I was sick for 48 hours afterwards. I called the store and spoke to a female manager. She apologized and said it shouldn't have happened (even though it clearly keeps happening). I requested that Newk's put up notices at their restaurants inside where patrons order food stating that allergies can't be accommodated, but they won't do it. She said the website already has a statement like this, but I didn't order on the website-I ordered at their location where there are no warnings posted and their staff claims they can accommodate allergies. I could easily have died, and I feel like my experiences were blown off. I don't want anyone to die from an allergic reaction because Newk's is stating they can make accommodations they clearly can't. I found all of this to be extremely negligent. I am sad to say I will not be back. read more

I have been around Newk's for a fair amount of time, and I will make a statement to say the food is fantastic. Providing service to us and to others are within the best reach that they can provide. But there is one thing that I have noticed. I have noticed the job security of the employees to be highly degrading among the many. The workers were once happy and felt more at home. They were willing to come to work and have many things to look forward to. They may not aim to play and not be sincere about performing their duties, but they do strive to their perfection to earn income to feed their wombs. I have once seen them in their own state of happiness, but now I see the majority has fallen into madness. It is not the madness of the customers, for there are many customers that respect them for what they do. Surely, there are customers that may not and will never understand the struggles of an employee working a restaurant. But there comes a time when they feel their humanity is at stake. How they feel the need to be able to keep their sanity when they open the door to the world of labor. It is never an option for there to be control amongst the superiors. The control that is needed to destroy the humans' natural state of mind. Question it, some may do. But there should be an agreement between both the higher power and the laborers to reach a mutual understanding. They are not animated figures nor should the place feel it is a juvenile center. Be assertive, but be mindful of the outcome of the scenario. There are also actions that should be thought of more before making a decision. As a customer I should feel much more comfortable between both roles without the high tensions. read more
