Nasty, RUDE service. I've been needing new glasses for a couple years now, was referred here by my insurance and eagerly went in just to browse frames. I was initially hesitant to enter because the signs on the door were in Korean so I was skeptical that they'd help me, but then I thought That's ridiculous, we're in the United States, why wouldn't they help me? And went in anyway. It turns out I should've trusted my gut. Big time. Literally the second I walked in I was rudely told by the receptionist "We're closed". It was 5:10pm on a Monday. Their posted hours said open til 6pm. So I said "I thought you close at 6?" A crotchety old doctor man interjected abruptly "We close at 5:30". Their rude aggressive demeanor was not ok with me, so I said "You say you close at 5:30, but it's only 5:10, so that would leave me 20 minutes to browse frames, right?" Crotchety senile doctor barks "No!". I said "Oh really? From 5:10 to 5:30 isn't 20 minutes? Is my math wrong?" They all just looked at me. Then the receptionist said "We need time to put the frames away." Um first of all that's only if I actually saw some frames I wanted to try, but more importantly that's part of operating a business. And as I'm looking for something specific and can tell by looking if a frame will suit me or not, it's unlikely I would've even touched many frames. And *on their website* their POSTED HOURS are until 6pm Mondays. I definitely won't be spending a penny here and would encourage anyone else to go elsewhere. I went to a different optometrist not far away in Encino - owned, run and staffed by Americans - and could not have been treated better. read more

Good doctor, very good selection of frames, and generally friendly staff. Prices are generally good too. But one scheduling receptionist does not seem to have the word "sorry" in her vocabulary. I was originally scheduled for an afternoon appointment. A day before, I got a text asking me to confirm the time, which I appreciated as a good use of technology. However, on the morning of the appointment, I got another text asking me to confirm a time roughly 30 minutes later than originally scheduled. I confirmed that last-minute change by replying YES. Then I got busy and didn't check my phone again. Apparently there was a follow-up text saying the new time was a mistake and asking me to confirm the original time. I never saw it in time. The right thing to do in that situation would have been to make a phone call and leave a voicemail, or at least try. I'll admit I arrived a bit late due to unforeseen traffic. However, the first thing the receptionist asked was whether I had gotten the text, in a tone suggesting it was my fault for not re-confirming a last-minute change that originated from her own error. When I pulled out my phone to check the messages, she reached over and touched my phone, scrolling frantically to prove she had sent a correction, a message I never got the chance to read. On top of that, when I calmly tried to give feedback to the doctor one-on-one in the exam room, she overheard and rushed over to point out that I was late. That's fair, but even setting the traffic aside, the root cause of missing the original time was the poor communication on the day of. To be fair, I was seen not long after and it didn't end up disrupting my schedule. Also worth noting: this was just one receptionist. Everyone else I dealt with was kind and professional. I'd been a returning customer, and I think the doctor is great, with a strong selection of frames and good contact lens options. read more

Not good, lacking people skills. I went to their place on 5/29/26, and they said my glasses would be ready in about 2 or 3 weeks. On June 9th, I asked for the status of my order, and their response was the same as before: 2- 3 weeks, and this time they added the statement "we will text you as soon as they are in." I never received any kind of notice or text. On June 30th, I walked to their location and asked about my order, and finally, they gave them to me. I asked when they were received. And to my surprise, they did not know. The worst part is that they handed me the glasses all dirty and smudgy, did not ask me if they fit right, and the prescription was the correct one for me, to top it off, without a case. When I asked them if the glasses would not fit properly, what would I do? They responded that neither they nor Medical would be responsible. I think, regardless of the form of payment, the way you treat a person should be more respectful and show a bit of professionalism. Being kind and courteous when it comes to dealing with people is one thing that could make you grow as a person. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Chae at New York Style Optometry since about 2008, when my parents and I first realized I was having trouble seeing the whiteboard at school. Dr. Chae has been my optometrist ever since, fitting me for glasses and then later contact lenses so I could play sports without worrying about glasses on my face. She usually has glasses frames I like in stock, but the one time she didn't she was more than happy to just write me my prescription so I could order the glasses through RayBans's website so I could get the specific frames I wanted. Dr. Chae is consistently professional, communicates about the state of my eye health very clearly, and is also just a lovely person. I live in NYC now, but I still see Dr. Chae for my yearly eye exam whenever I visit my family in LA! read more

Their appointment process is pretty rigid. They are unable to schedule appointments for my mother, grandmother and me on a weekend because they reserve the weekends for other people who need shorter time to get help. This rationale absolutely makes no sense and they have no motivation to make any accommodations for elderly and disabled people who require more time for their appointment. I'm disappointed in the lack of care and flexibility that this business offers. I would take my business elsewhere. They were more tentative and concern about my needs then the 1st phone call I had. They have followed up with me regarding my needs and made great progress in the end. I have been going to Dr. Chae for years! I've moved a lot throughout LA and even if it's a further drive, I still come here. Dr. Chae is so nice and gentle. I work freelance, so I never have vision insurance, but she will do her best to make the price fair. Her staff is accommodating and any time I've ever need a prescription emailed to me, they've gotten it to me the day of. I've gotten glasses from here several years back and I remember the process being pleasant. The office is clean and they have a wide variety of lenses and contacts to choose from. I've been a patient with Dr. Chae for about 5 years now and really recommend her office. Her care and dedication to making sure you have healthy eyes sticks out. All of the employees of the office also show how much they care about making sure you leave happy and are well taken care of. Glasses in general can be pricey, but I always feel that I get a good deal at New York Style Optometry. They have a great selection of glasses of varying brands and also varying price ranges. My company recently changed vision insurances and the staff took the time to really explain the differences in coverage. Overall, I would give this office 5/5 always. A great example of how the staff go above and beyond is when one of my lenses popped out the week of my wedding. They made sure I had them for my big day and I really appreciated that. This used to be a good place to get glasses. They still have a good selection of frames, but they've become increasingly customer unfriendly. You used to be able to swing by and look at frames just to browse. Now, you can't walk in without an appointment, despite the store being empty, and they require someone to hold your hand while looking for frames. "That's our policy." Fine. We've been customers here for more than 10 years, but I don't feel welcome as a customer anymore. Other stores will appreciate my business. read more

Once all the initial questions were asked and taken, it was down to the fun part. Picking out a new pair of speck. Plenty of designer glasses to choose from. I tend to go for the classic pair. But, the one I was eyeing wasn't available. She was able to look it up, and even went through it with me on selection. Found it and ordered it.
