Petros has the most friendlier family type of ambiance. Customer service is great and they always give a lot of food for a reasonable price. Thank you guys always for the welcoming experience. read more

Thank you, Petros, for still being there to enjoy family run restaurant food. All that's left, it seems, are chain restaurants that all follow formulas for what they offer. Petros is a really good value for the money, with large and tasty portions of food in a friendly atmosphere. Please don't ever close like so many others (Commanders in Munster, for example). read more

I ordered a 5 egg vegetable omelette. It came to the table looking like a 2 1/2 omelette and the vegetables were skimpy. The waitress took my soup to the table behind me. About 5 minutes later they told her it was not what they ordered. Then she took the food off of their table to serve to me. That is cross contamination and I refused it. Other patrons had complaints too. She was speed balling the whole duration. The service was bad and the food did not taste good. Do not eat at New Petros unless you want ill service and nasty food. read more

I always have the Lemon Rice Soup, it's the best in Northwest Indiana. Not overwhelming on the flavor or lacking it. Grilled Chicken and Mozzarella w Buffalo Sauce is usually my choice. Omelettes or Skillets for breakfast. A Legacy Diner, used to be open 24 Hours read more

I was looking to order for take out, I went to the "counter" and waited on someone to give me a menu, there were 3 waitresses working the counter, the waitresses served the "regulars" who came in after me and ignored me for 10 minutes. As I was walking out, I went to complain to the manager, which was a woman in her 70s, at that point I wanted her to know what happened and I informed her I probably wont be coming back She replied "Your loss" IMO that is a horrible way to treat a person, forget being a customer, just as a human being, read more

This place has been here forever. It has been one of my go to places if I want home cooked style meals when I am in this area. Most items on the menu are made ok and the portions are large. The pricing is also very reasonable. I don't think I have ever had anything here that I could say was the best I have ever had. I hadn't visited in quite a while, therefore, I thought to myself why not stop by for a quick lunch? I also do have to mention that the older men that run this restaurant are never friendly. So why would I go to a place like this? Well, as I mentioned, the portions are large and its very reasonable. Also, I make an effort to avoid fast food chains; so, I overlooked some of the flaws. Upon my visit this time, one of the crabby older men (He didn't greet me.) Grabbed a menu by the register and waved for me to follow him without making any sort of eye contact. A few seconds later we arrived at a table and he pointed to it as he threw the menu on to the tabletop and said nothing. Well I decided to order one of their daily specials which was chicken breast with spinach. I took one bite and said to my self, " Hey this is tasty". As I proceeded to cut another piece of chicken I noticed the tip of a hair. Okay, so now I thinking, it's probably one of my lashes. So I pick up the chicken and discover that it was a very long piece of hair that fused itself to the chicken when it was being cooked. I totally lost my appetite and quickly flagged down my waitress that apologized and took the dish for further inspection to the not so friendly host. She returned and said that they will replace it with a new chicken breast. At this point, I asked will the same crook make my new plate. She said yes?!? I was no longer hungry, because I lost my appetite and could not believe that the cook couldn't have not seen this very long strand of hair as he was cooking my food! Unfortunately, I for now on will take my money elsewhere to where other people in the hospitality industry treat customers hospitable and have higher standards of sanitation. read more

Went there once. Wait staff seemed like zombies and the food was gross. It didn't even look good. Won't go again.

I used to enjoy coming here. The last couple of times I came I had a horrible experience. I came once for breakfast. I was seated, and the waitress never came back to my table ever. Nobody checked on me or refreshed my drink or anything. I actually had to walk to the front to get my check because it was never brought to the table. Then when I told the manager or owner, whoever he was, he kind of brushed me off with no apology or anything. The time after that, which was the very last time. I got food poisoning from their thick cut pork chops. NEVER AGAIN.! read more

Hell to the naw Definitely not a place I'd recommend. Plenty of other places around that are probably way better. Got the crepes, texture was spongy and more like a rolled up shitty pancake than a crepe. Flavor was good at first till the aftertaste of onion and pepper hit bc they probably didn't bother to clean the skillet after making the girlfriends veggie stir fry (There was plenty of it but, I'm sure a Stouffer's frozen dinner would be tastier and cheaper). Strawberry filling in the crepes was 10/10 canned pie filling crap and cold to boot. Long story short, had 4 bites and had it removed, no offer to have it taken off the bill either. Oh well, eff it, lesson learned. read more

Great foods. Great friendly server. The food was at the right temperature. The restaurant was clean.

Let me tell you, the service is great! The (as I call her) coffee slinger (Gloria) is legendary. She is literally here every time I come and is absolutely the best! The food here is great and an amazing value. You pay like 5 dollars and get a 50 course meal. If you are in the area, stop by and grab breakfast. You definitely won't be disappointed! read more

It's been a while since I've been here. My family and I weren't even greeted at the door. The bus boy that brought the water was the only good thing about this visit. Our waitress seriously seemed like she was on something. (Sorry not sorry) She was leaning on the table to the point where I had to MOVE OVER. She asked if we were ready to take our order and then said okay and walked away! What?! She basically threw our soups on the table. The lemon rice soup tasted like cream of mushroom....We came for the perch because it was Friday during lent. They used to have good lake perch and Mac n cheese. Let me just tell you, that was the worst food I've had. The perch on my plate was like chicken nuggets. No flavor at all! The Mac n cheese literally tasted like someone chewed it first and then gave it to me. I will never step foot in that place again. read more

I'm surprised with these reviews. I've probably been there at least there 20 times. The service and food was great. I like seeing the family owned owners at the restaurant enjoying their customer. Definitely will be back soon. read more

Walked in this afternoon for lunch with my daughter and took my eyeglasses off. Set them on the table and walked up to pay. 10min later I call to tell them I'm heading back to pick them up. And supposedly they don't see them! The restaurant was empty no one could've walked up and took them!!! read more

This place is a busy and ok Greek style family diner. I had lunch and tried their gyros club sandwich - a club sandwich using gyros instead of turkey, for $6.50 (with fries). It was a little slow as it was packed, but it's otherwise decent and offers quite a large menu. My colleague really enjoyed his sauteed perch lunch, which came with soup, salad, a lot of fresh perch for $12. read more

Went there about a month ago and the service sucked but the food was pretty decent so decided to go back thinking it might be a fluke that the service was terrible and was incorrect, the service is horrible horrible horrible I need more staff when it's busy with the owners too stupid to realize it. read more

We loved it! So many choices of food! That was amazing! Everything that came to our table was large, large, large portions! I can not even believe how much food and it tasted great! The waitress was great and she treated us all so nice and she was really sweet to my kids. The restrooms were clean, not spotless, but good. And the price for all five of us getting full dinners and dessert was just under $70.00. I would come again! And by the way everything came with soup and salad! read more

Horrible food, OMG this place is disgusting!! The resuraunt décor is straight out of 1984, probably last time it was cleaned as well. Ordered the bacon cheese burger and it was a hockey puck, cold, over cooked garbage, no flavor, worst burger Ever, McDonalds's puts these guys to shame. Regret eating it should have sent it back. This place is one of the worst I have been to in my life would never walk in the doors again. The place just feels dirty, the silver ware was filthy! Hope I don't end up sick from coming here. The soup they threw in with the burger was terrible too, cant think of a worse place to dine. read more

I thought I'd give this joint another chance. Nope no better than the last time. Waitress was busy chatting away with another customer leaving me with an empty glass. I was half way through my meal when I finally got her attention. The food was ok for $13 bucks I got one breaded veal cutlet no vegetables and Luke warm potatoes. What a rip off .I won't be back again. read more

OMG. NO. Just NO. 3 of us came in on 3/18/19 at about 7pm. When you walk in, the owners are always sitting at a table with friends sipping coffee and chatting. They don't even acknowledge you when you're standing at the host stand. The owners don't even greet you or care that you're there....they are far too busy sitting with their friends. I've been here dozens of times and the food is generally decent and the service can be good too....but lately, particularly on this date, the service was HORRIBLE. Chicken noodle soup was cold...not even warm...room temp at best. We ask the waitress to bring us hot soup. She brings it back and says..." I guarantee it's much warmer now"....NOT! It was about the same. So, not really wanting to ask for hot soup again and again to no avail...we decided to leave. read more

Do not come here if you're looking for consistent quality service. We came here for breakfast this morning at 9:30 (they were not that busy at the time). We ordered right away - I ordered an omelette and my guest got one Belgian waffle. After we ordered, a number of people came in, sat down, ordered and received their food - all within a 15 minuted time period. Forty minutes later, we still did not receive any food. The waitress (who seemed grumpy from the start) kept telling us it will be up in a few minutes. The final time the waitress did her "it will be up in a few minutes" thing, I told her forget it, we're leaving. As we were getting up, the food miraculously arrived, but we walked out anyway. The manager or owner's (who dressed in all black today) only concern is pointing patrons to their tables, making sure all the chairs are scooted in and centered at empty tables and drinking coffee. If your in the Hammond area, I suggest Johnel's Restaurant on Calumet Avenue - that is where we went afterwards and had no issues, or Great Lakes Cafe in Gary. I will be reviewing both positively soon. read more

I like this place the food is decent and they serve you a lot, some of the waitresses are nice but I have had one or two that seem a little grouchy.. I go there because is very close to my house and I usually order the crepes and I like them they r big and good. Im not giving it 5 starts because there's been times when I have to wait a long time to get my food and there's been a time when I returned some of my food because wasn't good but most of the time I have a good experience!!! read more

My husband and I aren't the most adventurous people when it comes to new breakfast joints. But nonetheless, we had a kid free morning and decided to check out Petros. We were more than thoroughly disappointed. The lemon rice soup was chicken rice soup, the service was horrible. The waitresses seemed like they hated their lives and grouchy. The food was below average diner fare. My breakfast burrito was served with French fries, despite the fact that the menu promised hash browns. My husband was served pancakes with no syrup. All in all, we absolutely won't be back. read more

This place is horrible. The food looks bad taste bad and if you order anything with meat be prepared to get a minimal serving of it, tasting how bad there food is maybe that's a good thing. Owner comes over asks how everything is you tell him it is horrible and he gets mad and starts to defend his place " no that's a lot of meat on your sandwich, no that's does not look old and discolored. I have been a regular customer at petros for over two years now. I love dining there as its cheap (student budget), affordable and good quality food. You get a soup/salad and bread free before your main entree. You also have an option to make it a dinner, that would mean including dessert too. I enjoy their chicken noodle soup and chicken scampi for entree. It's my always when-in-doubt go-to dish! I would recommend not trying the stir fry dishes as that's just horribly cooked. Other than that, they have a very big menu and many options to choose from. Definitely find out about the specials for each day if you would feel comfortable going with that. I would say the best time to dine would be before 6-7pm thought they are open till 11-12am. The reason being that I have noticed the bread is not fresh anymore and the soup doesn't taste good afterwards. Their soup quality decreases and they add a shit ton of salt in the soup to bring flavor. So definitely dine in during decent hours and not super late. Service is excellent. There is this amazing lady, Penny who is just the best server ever. Do ask for her, if it is your first time. She gives honest, good suggestions for food. read more

Great food, great staff, great prices. Had funeral luncheon at New Petros and we arrived over an hour early in the middle of the lunch rush Instantly the staff jumped into action getting seating for 20 ready. In less then 10 minutes we were seated and ready to eat. Lisa and Christina were wonderful waitresses and took care of everone without a single hitch. We have a new restaurant to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries etc. Thank you Petros and brothers. read more

First and last! Everything about this place is disgusting! Let's start with the women's restroom that almost made me throw up immediately. Somehow I managed to keep an appetite and ordered the steak cooked medium well. What I received was a bloody "steak" if that's what we're calling it, that tasted like raw leather! I asked for the manager who told me that while I asked for a medium well steak; he decided to cook it medium and he would not be taking it back, so deal with it! The Godfather of Petros basically told me "that I'm going to keep the steak and I'm going to like it!" Not only did he not take it back I also had to pay for it. I didn't want any problems but, I will NEVER come back again and I advise you not to either! It's time for them to shut this place down!! read more

I really love Petros. So much in fact that I have breakfast there every morning. The owner brothers Gus, George, Kris and Peter are always making customers feel welcome. The food is top notch and if you like Gyros, make sure you try theirs. Most of their servers have been there for a good number of years and are very good at what they do. I live about 5 minutes away, but know for a fact that many customers come from over The border in Illinois. As long as I live in Hammond, I'll keep having my breakfast at only one place, Petros. P.S. last but not least, the prices are great too. read more

Service is horseshit! Went in 6/16 at 7 pm. Restaurant was not busy. Were shown to a booth by the owner. Waitress saw us sitting there. Ignored us as she was too busy BULLSHITTING at another table!! Finally looked over to us and said she would be right there, and then continued to BULLSHIT! We got up and moved to a different table. 3 waitresses in that section all looked at us and again, IGNORED US!! Then I hear one of them arguing that she had a table and didnt want any more. That was the final straw! 15 minutes and not one lazy ass waitress even came to our table! We left and I gave the owner a few choice words. Went down the street to The Wheel and had a great meal.
