I had seen something somewhere about this place and had to try it. I can't remember if it was pictures of the food or just someone mentioning it. Glad I made the trip and checked this place out! Absolutely delicious and very generous portions. I had the Bronx plate and it was fantastic! Layered with rice onions peppers steak and gyro and topped with NY sauce. Accompanied with lettuce tomato and sliced pitta bread. This dish was really enjoyable and so unique. To find a gem like this serving food this unique in northwest Indiana is rare. I can't comment if this is the best version of this type of meal having never tried something like it before, but I found it to be absolutely delicious. I will be a repeat customer after this experience. Other things I can mention, the gentleman behind the counter was nice and friendly. The service was okay. The man did his job. I mean its Gary, Indiana ... so the ambiance of the place was equivalent to a sharks chicken or something. I thought it was weird that they have a wooden board covering the side of the sweets fridge? Maybe so we can't see what's is going on in the kitchen..? The food was mid asf. I ordered the flamin hot wings with loaded fries . The wings had a natural buffalo flavor that overruled the flamin hot. They threw hella cheese on it and the chicken was dark asf . I ordered the catfish platter and the peanut butter cookies. The fish was fabulous. Not too greasy. They were crispy and well seasoned. I was hungry and I wanted something different. So I decided to go to New York Plate in the (Miller area) of Gary, Indiana. The young Lady (Shawna) who served me was simply Delightful and very knowledgeable about the menu. There were so many great choices that it took me a minute or 5 to make my selection. The menu has lunch specials, dinner specials and the add on menu items. The ambiance is nice and quaint but very clean with comfort in mind. I finally ordered the teriyaki chicken sandwich with fries. The desert options are plentiful as well. The sandwich & fries were good. I would definitely give it a shot. read more

I'm so upset with this place. I don't even want to give it a star. I had to give it a star just to give it a review. The food was trash it was greasy and I couldn't even eat it. I paid $16 for a flaming hot Fried Chicken meal that was so gross but I had to throw it out. The chicken tasted and smelled spoiled and was overpowered by burned Grease. The fries were greasy and smelled bad topped with nasty processed cheese and a whole lot of crumbled flaming a hot Cheetos. I was so ready to try this and was so disappointed when I tried it. I will never eat at this restaurant again. The food was horrendous. This was the greatest Miss of my money that I have ever used. I was so upset that I paid for this. I am now disputing this payment because I couldn't even eat the food it was so nasty I threw everything in the garbage. Belly busting. I came here for lunch since a coworker said the sizes were generous. I skipped breakfast and was super hungry. Im going to preface this by saying I'm a midwestern corn fed lady and when I'm hungry I can put it away. I was sooo hungry but this is all I could work through (see photo) I'm stuffed and hope I don't crash asleep at work. It wasn't what I expected. For some reason I figured it would be a chicken gyro and rice was on the side. Truth be told at first I was a little disappointed though happy about how much food was there. Hoping this would taste decent and I was very pleasantly surprised. Don't let the look of the food fool you. It was very good and had a nice flavor. I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. Weeks ago, I purchased a chicken wrap with fries. Arrived home, I ate the unseasoned fries, and cut the wrap in half. Strange orangish yellow color. Using a fork, I tasted the meat. BLAND! BLAND! BLAND! Called the place and employee, Rice, (that's the name on my receipt) placed me on hold for more than 5 minutes. Hung up and I called back. She picked the phone and immediately hung up. Thus occured more than 5 times. Drive back to the restaurant and explained the reason for returning food which I didn't want a refund. I wanted seasoned food. That ignorant, illiterate, untrained, unprofessional employee used her nasty ass fingers to move the food. The same unwashed fingers in which she answered the phone and scratched her wig. She insisted the meat was seasoned stating 'that food IS seasoned. THERE SUMTHIN' WRONG WITH YOU YOU!' Contradicting herself, she added 'we don't add seasoning to our food. You gotta ask for seasoning!' Huh!?! She accused me of biting the sandwich! I asked her to show me a bite mark. She stared at me because I didn't bite it. Then she told the cook to take my wrap, which she fingered with her nasty hands, to add seasoning. She told him not to make a fresh one! I responded 'I don't want a wrap that you put your nasty fingers in!' Ignoring me, she asked another customer for his order. As he asked questions, she continually and rudely interrupted him. Calmly, he said 'stop interrupting me while I'm trying to order.' Immediately, she interrupted him. When he finished ordering, she ignored me', again. I calmly said 'just make my damn sandwich so that I can get out of here.' At no time did I raise my voice because it wasn't necessary and I knew she didn't have the mental capacity to handle confrontation. She shouted 'BITCH, I'm calling the police!' I replied 'ok, I'll wait.' She comes into the lobby, calls the police and stands near me. As she provided my description, I help her describe me to the police dispatcher. While waiting, she turns to a male customer, who she continually interrupted earlier stating, how rude I was to her. Customer replied that I wasn't rude to her and never raised my voice. I was very calm even after she call me a 'bitch'and threaten to all the police. He added 'YOU were wrong.' She became upset and accused him of 'taking up for her!' Office finally arrived and I let Rice to give her version. She added 'this customer said I was wrong because I called her a bitch. He's trying to take up for her. I told her to leave and she refuses.' Officer stared in disbelief at her. I provided my version on which two witnesses confirmed. After the nonsense, Officer stated it was a civil matter. Rice doesn't want me in the store. Ok, the food is horrible and I'd rather use my financial p?power (money) elsewhere where customers are appreciated and great service is provided. You're probably wondering what happened to the chicken wrap in which Rice used her nasty, unsanitary hand to finger the chicken. Well, another employee placed it in a bag and gave it to me. I threw it in the garbage. Owner, train your employees! Stress the importance of not making false accusations; unnecessarily wasting city resources by calling police because the employee is upset; practicing sanitary guidelines; and offering to remake a NEW food item instead of arguing. Although, I've lost less than $10 on an unseasoned chicken wrap, your business lost revenue and is receiving a negative review. Sure, you can post a rebuttal about me not being a customer. However, I still have my receip and photos. I could've filed a police report against Rice. Unnecessary because I wouldn't want to add an additional hardship on someone who has an opportunity to become successful and have a great future. read more

Though this is a little off the beaten path, the portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the blue two-person tables are intimate. We left satisfied, with at least one meal for later. NY Plate is across the street from one of my favorite diners Arman's so they have a bit of friendly competition going on. I've ordered a few dishes from NY Plate and overall I liked the food. I especially enjoyed the baklava that they were selling in their dessert section. I find though if they tell you the food will be ready in 15-20, it's better to come 30-35 minutes later to pick up. Another thing is the cooks working behind the counter aren't the most polite. I find Arman's definitely has better customer service. This place has excellent Gyro plates I will not deny it. As a matter of fact I would say they have the best gyros in Miller, but the last time I visited this establishment, I asked for my gyro with tzatziki sauce on the side. When I got home (which is about 20 minutes away) I was extremely disappointed to find I had no sauce at all!!! I would have gladly said extra sauce and just delt with soggy mess it makes! I haven't been back to the establishment since and I might continue to hold the gudgeon against them! The thing that put me over the top is when I called and complained, the person who answered seemed as though he could care less! I was really happy with the food I got (gyro plate no veggies). The gyro was seasoned very well and the portion size was enough for 2 meals as expected. I also ordered the New York Plate for my mom and she said it was different than the one she had in New York but it was delicious and had a huge portion as well. This place has the best fried shrimp! The jumbo shrimp are truly jumbo. You can opt for rice or fries along side your meal. The rice is really good and it's nice to have a non-fried option as a side.
