I was hungry and I wanted something different. So I decided to go to New York Plate in the (Miller area) of Gary, Indiana. The young Lady (Shawna) who served me was simply Delightful and very knowledgeable about the menu. There were so many great choices that it took me a minute or 5 to make my selection. The menu has lunch specials, dinner specials and the add on menu items. The ambiance is nice and quaint but very clean with comfort in mind. I finally ordered the teriyaki chicken sandwich with fries. The desert options are plentiful as well. The sandwich & fries were good. I would definitely give it a shot.

I had seen something somewhere about this place and had to try it. I can't remember if it was pictures of the food or just someone mentioning it. Glad I made the trip and checked this place out! Absolutely delicious and very generous portions. I had the Bronx plate and it was fantastic! Layered with rice onions peppers steak and gyro and topped with NY sauce. Accompanied with lettuce tomato and sliced pitta bread. This dish was really enjoyable and so unique. To find a gem like this serving food this unique in northwest Indiana is rare. I can't comment if this is the best version of this type of meal having never tried something like it before, but I found it to be absolutely delicious. I will be a repeat customer after this experience. Other things I can mention, the gentleman behind the counter was nice and friendly. There is a few small 2 person tables if you want to dine in, but it's mainly a carry out place in my opinion. The wait time was not very long. Definitely cooked to order and fresh.

Food was amazing!! Give this spot a chance if you haven't. It's small on the inside, but it's perfect for just two people to eat together. Friendly staff, food came out quick and fresh. Glad we ran across this place.

This is the chicken plate. I couldn't finish. So good

Belly busting. I came here for lunch since a coworker said the sizes were generous. I skipped breakfast and was super hungry. Im going to preface this by saying I'm a midwestern corn fed lady and when I'm hungry I can put it away. I was sooo hungry but this is all I could work through (see photo) I'm stuffed and hope I don't crash asleep at work. It wasn't what I expected. For some reason I figured it would be a chicken gyro and rice was on the side. Truth be told at first I was a little disappointed though happy about how much food was there. Hoping this would taste decent and I was very pleasantly surprised. Don't let the look of the food fool you. It was very good and had a nice flavor. I had wanted to eat some hummus but I never touched it. Too full. That and my leftovers are going home. I'll actually be able to split the rest with my hubby for dinner!! I'll be back!

Unseasoned chicken wrap cut in half.

I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. Weeks ago, I purchased a chicken wrap with fries. Arrived home, I ate the unseasoned fries, and cut the wrap in half. Strange orangish yellow color. Using a fork, I tasted the meat. BLAND! BLAND! BLAND! Called the place and employee, Rice, (that's the name on my receipt) placed me on hold for more than 5 minutes. Hung up and I called back. She picked the phone and immediately hung up. Thus occured more than 5 times. Drive back to the restaurant and explained the reason for returning food which I didn't want a refund. I wanted seasoned food. That ignorant, illiterate, untrained, unprofessional employee used her nasty ass fingers to move the food. The same unwashed fingers in which she answered the phone and scratched her wig. She insisted the meat was seasoned stating 'that food IS seasoned. THERE SUMTHIN' WRONG WITH YOU YOU!' Contradicting herself, she added 'we don't add seasoning to our food. You gotta ask for seasoning!' Huh!?! She accused me of biting the sandwich! I asked her to show me a bite mark. She stared at me because I didn't bite it. Then she told the cook to take my wrap, which she fingered with her nasty hands, to add seasoning. She told him not to make a fresh one! I responded 'I don't want a wrap that you put your nasty fingers in!' Ignoring me, she asked another customer for his order. As he asked questions, she continually and rudely interrupted him. Calmly, he said 'stop interrupting me while I'm trying to order.' Immediately, she interrupted him. When he finished ordering, she ignored me', again. I calmly said 'just make my damn sandwich so that I can get out of here.' At no time did I raise my voice because it wasn't necessary and I knew she didn't have the mental capacity to handle confrontation. She shouted 'BITCH, I'm calling the police!' I replied 'ok, I'll wait.' She comes into the lobby, calls the police and stands near me. As she provided my description, I help her describe me to the police dispatcher. While waiting, she turns to a male customer, who she continually interrupted earlier stating, how rude I was to her. Customer replied that I wasn't rude to her and never raised my voice. I was very calm even after she call me a 'bitch'and threaten to all the police. He added 'YOU were wrong.' She became upset and accused him of 'taking up for her!' Office finally arrived and I let Rice to give her version. She added 'this customer said I was wrong because I called her a bitch. He's trying to take up for her. I told her to leave and she refuses.' Officer stared in disbelief at her. I provided my version on which two witnesses confirmed. After the nonsense, Officer stated it was a civil matter. Rice doesn't want me in the store. Ok, the food is horrible and I'd rather use my financial p?power (money) elsewhere where customers are appreciated and great service is provided. You're probably wondering what happened to the chicken wrap in which Rice used her nasty, unsanitary hand to finger the chicken. Well, another employee placed it in a bag and gave it to me. I threw it in the garbage. Owner, train your employees! Stress the importance of not making false accusations; unnecessarily wasting city resources by calling police because the employee is upset; practicing sanitary guidelines; and offering to remake a NEW food item instead of arguing. Although, I've lost less than $10 on an unseasoned chicken wrap, your business lost revenue and is receiving a negative review. Sure, you can post a rebuttal about me not being a customer. However, I still have my receip and photos. I could've filed a police report against Rice. Unnecessary because I wouldn't want to add an additional hardship on someone who has an opportunity to become successful and have a great future.

We had high expectations, seeing how graciously Mahmud has responded to all previous yelp reviews, and were not disappointed by the warm pita and well seasoned rice. Though this is a little off the beaten path, the portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the blue two-person tables are intimate. We left satisfied, with at least one meal for later. The signature sauce added a flavor combination both reminiscent of the Mediterranean and New York City, and we will always have memories of the woman beckoning us to eat more gyros.

We get there and there is a cute young girl who greets us with an apron and chef's hat on. She seats us and takes our order - she was our waitress which surprised us. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup to have before my meal. I'm glad I got a cup and not a bowl. The cup was only half full. The soup was lacking flavor so I added pepper. The woman who is GrannyMa delivered the soup. She didn't speak to us or anything the entire time while we were there which didn't feel too nice. They were sold out of the beef liver, beef shortribs and sweet potatoes. We ordered the fried chicken (menu states it takes 20-25 minutes for the chicken) and the salmon croquettes. Each dinner comes with 2 sides each so we got the macaroni and cheese, green beans, dressing and mostaccioli (slight extra charge for the mostaccioli). Fried chicken was crispy and delicious! Seasoned well. The croquettes were good also - they give you two big patties in the dinner. We weren't impressed with the green beans as you can tell they came out of a can. The dressing was only okay. The mac and cheese was pretty good but the best side was the mostaccioli - it had a layer of cheese on top and was really yummy. I wish I had gotten that as a meal, it was that good and highly recommend it. For dessert I got the peach cobbler sundae which is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. The cobbler sauce was very thin. I like cobbler that has alot of flaky crust but this didn't have that but it still was good enough to eat the whole thing. The young girl brought us our bill. The prices are so reasonable for what you get. Our bill was only $62 with tax for all of what we had. The place is bright with warm colors inside. We conversated with the son-in-law to GrannyMa's, he was very nice and personable. Although the young girl was sweet, I felt some kind of way of her being our waitress because clearly she is underage to be working. We were told they have a Sunday brunch from 11-3 that includes a DJ. To my friend and I, the food overall was either hit or miss. One review mention about GrannyMa engaging them in conversation - she never came over to our table except to drop off the soup and she is the owner of the restaurant. Not a good way in customer service if you ask me. Overall, okay.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and found the restaurant virtually empty. There seemed to be a steady flow of takeout pickups, but there wasn't anyone dining in, so we had the entire place to ourselves. Our waitress was a young girl who was pleasant and friendly. My sister and I both had the catfish. I ordered the greens and mac & cheese while she had the dressing and greens. We both loved the mac & cheese. My sister kept stealing bites of it off my plate! Lol She enjoyed the dressing as well. Neither of us liked the greens, though. I believe they were turnips, and we prefer collards. We also didn't care for the Johnny cakes. I prefer mine a little sweeter. The catfish was good but could've had more flavor. My brother had the fried chicken, and his mom had the salmon croquettes. All three of them LOVED the croquettes! I didn't have any, but they were definitely a fan favorite! My brother loved the chicken and sweet potatoes. I had the brownie for dessert, which I didn't care for. My sister didn't like it either. It was dry and was just okay taste-wise. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Since we were the only ones dining in, it was really quiet and relaxing. We sat at one of the large tables, but there are also comfortable benches along the wall and window. The service was excellent and you can tell that the family takes pride in going the extra mile. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and I'd go back.

Ribs are not just "cooked"-they were smoked to perfection, breaking down the tough connective tissue into succulent, melt-in-your-mouth bites. Each piece was exceptionally tender, yet held that signature bouncy, chewy resistance. There was zero dryness here--just pure, smoky collagen-rich tenderness that made the cartilage easy to navigate around. The flavor hit hard from the first bite. The seasoning blend was bold, with a perfect balance of herbs, creating a "low-and-slow" depth that permeated all the way through the meat. The magic, however, was the sauce--a tangy masterpiece with just enough sweet molasses to create a sticky, caramelized bark. The tanginess cut perfectly through the fatty richness of the pork, leaving a lingering, savory heat that keeps you reaching for another piece. I keep creeping up on Ember and Oak and each time, meat and fries consistently seasoned, prepared cooked with an abundance of love.
