If you're ever in Gary, do yourself a favor and stop by Kelly's Soul Kitchen. This spot became a…read moremust-visit for me every single time I was in town--and for good reason. My go-to plates were the fried catfish and the jerk chicken, both packed with flavor and cooked to perfection every time. The collard greens and potato salad were absolutely on point--true comfort food done right. Everything on the menu just hits. What really made this place special though was the people. After a few visits, they started calling me "New York," and from that point on, it felt like family every time I walked in. The owners are incredibly welcoming and genuinely appreciate their customers. One of my favorite moments was being introduced to their strawberry banana pudding. I'll be honest--I was hesitant at first because I'm not big on banana flavor, especially when it tastes artificial. But this? Completely different. It made me a believer. So much so that now I even make my own from scratch at home. That's how good it was. It's a small, no-frills spot with just a couple of stools at a bar-style table--no real seating--but honestly, that doesn't matter. When the food is this good and the people are this real, you don't need anything fancy. Whether you're grabbing food on the go or standing there enjoying every bite, it's an experience. Kelly's Soul Kitchen isn't just a place to eat--it's a place you feel.

The day was my first visit Friday, June 6. The best catfish I've ever had. I will be going back.read more

Last time I tried turkey chops for the first time and they were delicious, moist and flavorful. The yams are always on point and so is the Mac and cheese. Each dinner easily could feed two people! CONS: 1. The corn muffins were a bit dry/overcooked and were more savory than sweet like I'm used to. (Still tasted good though) 2. The mac and cheese was a bit drier than what I was expecting but still had a good flavor! PROS: 1. Rib tips/bbq sauce had a great smoky and sweet flavor! It was also super tender. 2. Smothered cabbage and potatoes were simple and flavorful. The gravy wasn't too salty or super thick. 3. Catfish was bomb! They have a variety of lemon peppers to choose from and I was recommended the chipotle lemon pepper. It was flaky, moist, and had a good crunch! 4. SO MUCH FOOD! 5. Very kind staff :) Overall, great experience and definitely will be coming back!

The hostess was insightful and inviting, like eating at someone's house who loves you. Outside of all of that the Mediterranean lamb was phenomenal. As someone who has eaten lamb in the Middle East this was delightful, with the rice and flavorful kale it's a wonderful bite full. Large serving sizes...and that grilled pound cake lawd

Music is pretty loud in this small space. We decided on the 3 entrees for 69.00 with a glass of wine. We chose the pepper steak, smothered chicken, orange chicken, catfish and spaghetti, and the bbq catfish. Overall the food was ok., The bbq fish was a little to fishy and the smothered chicken was heavily salted. The star of our 6 dishes was the fried piece of catfish. The food came out quickly but nothing was piping hot. The server was OK as well, he did exactly what we expect of a server nothing more nothing less. I will say next time I would take the drive to the West side location, to me the food choices are better as well as the service.

Since it took so long to be corrected it became an order to go. No offer was made to compensate us for the mixup in the order or the time it took to to give me another order. Poor customer service. Nothing special about the greens or mac&cheese. I will not be back.

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile so finally, 10/15/25 was the day. My friend and I…read moremade the drive from the city of Chicago to Monee, IL which was about 40 minutes. We get there and there is a cute young girl who greets us with an apron and chef's hat on. She seats us and takes our order - she was our waitress which surprised us. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup to have before my meal. I'm glad I got a cup and not a bowl. The cup was only half full. The soup was lacking flavor so I added pepper. The woman who is GrannyMa delivered the soup. She didn't speak to us or anything the entire time while we were there which didn't feel too nice. They were sold out of the beef liver, beef shortribs and sweet potatoes. We ordered the fried chicken (menu states it takes 20-25 minutes for the chicken) and the salmon croquettes. Each dinner comes with 2 sides each so we got the macaroni and cheese, green beans, dressing and mostaccioli (slight extra charge for the mostaccioli). Fried chicken was crispy and delicious! Seasoned well. The croquettes were good also - they give you two big patties in the dinner. We weren't impressed with the green beans as you can tell they came out of a can. The dressing was only okay. The mac and cheese was pretty good but the best side was the mostaccioli - it had a layer of cheese on top and was really yummy. I wish I had gotten that as a meal, it was that good and highly recommend it. For dessert I got the peach cobbler sundae which is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. The cobbler sauce was very thin. I like cobbler that has alot of flaky crust but this didn't have that but it still was good enough to eat the whole thing. The young girl brought us our bill. The prices are so reasonable for what you get. Our bill was only $62 with tax for all of what we had. The place is bright with warm colors inside. We conversated with the son-in-law to GrannyMa's, he was very nice and personable. Although the young girl was sweet, I felt some kind of way of her being our waitress because clearly she is underage to be working. We were told they have a Sunday brunch from 11-3 that includes a DJ. To my friend and I, the food overall was either hit or miss. One review mention about GrannyMa engaging them in conversation - she never came over to our table except to drop off the soup and she is the owner of the restaurant. Not a good way in customer service if you ask me. Overall, okay.
