While in the area checking out homes, I had to satisfy my appetite. I didn't want something that was going to leave me hungry before I got back home, so I stopped by Flavor Brunch & Bar. From the outside, it looked packed. That was because most of the patrons were sitting towards the front and against the window. But there was plenty of room. I sat at the bar, given there were enough seats to enjoy my food without having others on top of me. I ordered catfish with waffles. There were two large, meaty pieces of catfish, which was a plus considering so many restaurants give a thin piece of catfish and often just one piece. Both filets were fried in a batter that wasn't so thick that it felt like essence of fish, and there was enough seasoning without being salty. The waffles came with a Hennessey caramel. I'm glad they didn't do something like add walnuts or pecans. Oh, it wasn't just Hennessey flavor. You could taste the Hennessey in the caramel. Big ups to the bartender who suggested the caramel for the waffles and recommended the fish over the chicken. One thing to note is that I didn't know if the hostess was really the hostess. There was no "Welcome to Flavor Brunch & Bar," but there was a quick acknowledgement of me entering after I held up my "church" finger to indicate just me for dining in. I really wanted to give this place an amazing review but I'm very sad to say I cannot. First, we were seated and no one came to our table to get our order for 20 minutes!! Closing time was at 3 and we were seated at 2:30 but literally everyone who came after us were already eating or gone by the time we ordered and it was 3:30 when we left the restaurant. The lady who did come help us seemed puzzled why no one came to help and we were very grateful for her coming to our aide. Since it is located in a strip mall, there is plenty of parking in the lot. Our server was Miracle and she was awesome! She went through the menu and told us which were the popular dishes. First one was made completely wrong and was charged for a drink instead of a shot. Oh and I was uncharged for that. I went and paid and was about to leave. They offered to remake the drink. That would have been fine. When she was about to remake my drink the right way, she took the whole drink to the back with her and thought I was going to still drink it. I just walked out. I actually have mixed feelings about this place. I live a good brunch and always seem to find myself ordering chicken and waffles so of course that's what I ordered here. We were told the wait would be 30 min and we were told to wait outside. This turned into almost an hour wait. Service from the waiter was great minus leaving us at the end with no direction on how to pay the bill. As we sat waiting on the check to come, the host made sure to keep her eyes on us. The place was virtually empty, but their policy is to not seat guests until the entire dining party has arrived. My mom was late, so my friend and I ended up standing around for about 15 minutes until she arrived. I don't frequent restaurants with such rules, so that was an immediate turn-off. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, which was a plus. I opted to have the breakfast combo, which consisted of grits, pancakes, sausage, and eggs. The grits were pretty good, but they could have kept everything else. The pancakes were hard and dry. I ended up picking over the food mostly. My friend had the catfish and grits, which she loved. I will warn that there is a sign up front that they won't seat any parties until all guest of that party are there. Thankfully it was just my GF and I. The drinks were on point. I had a Henny Rita and my Gf had a strawberry Long Island no vodka add tequila. Needless to say she ended up ordering another because it was so tasty. We both chose the Catfish and Waffles and I added a mini Shrimp and Grits (loaded with bacon). The catfish was crispy and flavorful seasoned well. Anyhow, I've tried this place about a handful of times, and this is my last. I really wanted each visit to improve, and it didn't. The positive consistent factors are the servers. Aside from that, it's a no for me. During this visit, the restaurant was basically empty. 4 other patrons. We still had to wait for everyone to be present to be seated. Once seated, our drink and meal orders were taken promptly, and that's when the timeliness ended. We waited so long for our food to the point that it wasn't just me being hungry. Most of our order was fried, besides the gumbo and grits, and we all know fried foods and waffles don't take long. When our food was brought out, it was room temperature at best and lacked flavor. We had to ask for fresh hot food, reluctantly. None of us were pleased with our order. We didn't make a fuss over it, just a mental note never to return. My previous visit lasted long enough to be seated at a dirty, sticky table only to leave without being greeted by a server. I vowed then it would be my last visit, but I took this one for the team. This is a place to go when you have time to linger. It took almost 20 minutes to be acknowledged once we sat down and after we had to ask a passing waiter. We were ready with our order by the time the waitress arrived. She did thank us for our patience although it was not crowded. Half the restaurant was empty and closed and there was enough of staff; she just kept walking past our booth. Food also took a long time. My chicken was hot but neither my waffle or my friends salmon cakes or waffle were. So it seems like they were waiting on chicken to be completed to serve. There was a complaint about a salty item from the table behind me and they requested chicken in its place so we assumed they got my chicken and that is what held up our order but who knows? The red velvet waffles were okay but better with the cream cheese butter that came with. We both liked them, just wished they were at least warm. Decided to bring my friend here because it's always a favorite of mine. We sat outside since indoor dining is not permitted right now. The outside set up was nice. We arrived right at 9am. Did take a bit of time to get seated and have our order taken. But I'm patient. We ordered the blackened catfish dinner and salmon croquettes for breakfast. I ordered my grits loaded, but they didn't come that way so it did take a bit of time to get the order correct. The food is always delicious. I was a little sad I couldn't get a mimosa though. They said alcohol isn't served until 10am on the weekdays. So word to the wise. My favorite thing was that the food was served in to go containers already, which was very safe, clean and easy to pack up when it was time to leave. The entire experience was almost horrible. I'm only giving one stars because our server, Legend; did the best that he could within his means and it's the bare minimum Yelp allows. He was also easy on the eye and made great iCandy throughout our debacle. If not for him, I personally would pulled my entire team (group of friends) from that establishment. Long story short, after we were seated; we had no server assigned to our table. Twenty minutes in, we asked them what is the problem? That's when we were assigned Legend; our sexy cute sever; because they never assigned us one. It took for what felt like 24 hours for water, coffee and cocktails to be delivered to our today. And then, the food took another twenty minutes. When our items started to come out, the coffee and the food were cold. It was a nightmare of flavors. There's no way I'll ever go back to that place. To the owner, plz take this as constructive criticism: 1: It takes entirely too long to be greeted once seated at the table. A glass of water and server early acknowledgement buys you some time. 2: It takes entirely too long for food & drinks to come out once an order is placed. Waiting 45 mins to an hour for drinks you lose interest early. 3: If ppl order waffles/pancakes have syrup on the table or brought out before food. I had to wait another 10 mins to eat my waffle cuz no syrup. No one likes a dry waffle. 4: Servers need a few customer service lessons. Serving food with airpods and large headphones is unprofessional. Seems like you're tuned out and not trying to hear any requests from customers. 2 girls had headphones in while serving our table. Maybe she would of heard my syrup request earlier (see point #3) 5: Food is good 8/10. Bar drinks could be better. FYI a peach Bellini should not be the same color as a mimosa. 6: Having bomb food does not make up for poor customer service. I only saw two waiters for entire restaurant. Yet there are overseers who I assume are managers that didn't even step in to help. As a leader, when you see your team sinking, step in and help. Of course I've been to Flavors off and on over the years they have been in business. Yes, sometimes is a hit or miss. I know that the staff will take care of you if your order isn't right and they will try their best to correct mistakes. That's being fair. Their food is well seasoned and does have the Cajun style flair to it. I do have my favorites which Cajun Wings, Catfish and Blackened Catfish is definitely the favorites and potatoes. I've been to Flavors twice in two weeks and I wasn't disappointed. (After church, I didn't feel like cooking ). I see that Flavors must be under new management because they have came a long way. The place is clean and the R&B vibe is great to add to the atmosphere. The last two times of my visit, my server Brandon is so down to earth and amazing. You would think we became friends instantly .
