First of all let me say the food has always been good all the times I have been there.So has the service. Today we went for lunch and the like I said the food and service were excellent!The strangest thing happened..we ordered dessert and wanted coffee the waiter who was excellent said we don't normally do coffee .All the times I had been there it has never been an issue or questionEd.They said they don't like to cross over to the Egg House.So basically when the Egg House closes no coffee or tea probably for dessert.He was able to to accommodate us but kind of hesitant no fault of his own.Then on the bill coffee was listed as "custom" seriously?. I realize it's a "Tavern Restaurant " but with dessert comes coffee or tea" in a restaurant usually. I thank you to the waiter but probably will never go back. read more

The Grove offers really good vibes and atmosphere and really just okay food unfortunately. We love the outdoor patio, service is quick and it's a great place to get a drink and maybe some appetizers but we haven't been impressed yet with the entrées. The most recent time we went, I ordered the French dip which was tasty, but there was not nearly enough roast beef in the sandwich, so it was very bread heavy. My partner ordered the brisket and for a place that's supposed to be known for barbecue...This brisket was not good. Low in flavor, high in fat. The cocktails were nice and presented very beautifully and we also enjoyed it an ahi tuna appetizer and that was the best thing we had there. We might come back to enjoy the outdoor patio, but plan to share more appetizers and do drinks. read more

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite between dropping one of our kids off and killing time before picking up the other. Yelp led us to Grove Tavern. I've driven by this place hundreds of times and never noticed it. I'm so glad we got to stop in. The staff was super friendly. It was a slow time, so they let us pick our table and still let us order from the happy hour menu even though we were t sitting at the bar. The potato skins were so yummy! I loved them. We split the smoke meat quartto and had leftovers to take home. What a great combination, we really enjoyed it! The restaurant itself is lovely, with a great looking outdoor space as well. Grove Tavern is easy to pass by on the crowded strip in downtown Lombard. But DON'T PASS IT UP! This place fires on all cylinders and is a must-visit! We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and were able to snag a table in the busy place. We setup in a cozy corner and began looking over the menu. Our waiter stopped by and we immediately knew he was going to be top notch. He was so friendly but very chill and seemed like he was reading our minds when it came to suggestions. After finally deciding, we placed our order and were impressed by the speed at which our food came out! It was fast for a sit-down restaurant! While we devoured our meal, which was INCREDIBLE by the way (I had the meatloaf and it was delicious!), our wonderful waiter continually checked in to see if we needed anything (but not to an annoying level). Then the manager (I think?) stopped by and even the owner (which I found out who he was later) asked how things were. And it wasn't a check-the-box, they were genuinely interested in making sure everything was to our liking. The restaurant/bar-ish is a bit of a mix. It has a bar feel but is right on the cusp of being something more upscale. And they should embrace that because their food and service level support something leveled-up! On the way out I tapped the owner on the shoulder and told him what an amazing time we had - he appreciated it. We'll be back here again, many more times! read more

Back at it again at Grove Tavern! I love the ambiance here -- everything feels welcoming, and the servers are always attentive. We started with the pretzel bites, which were super fresh. The cheese dip was also really good -- not quite beer cheese and not nacho cheese either, but tasty in its own way. For my entrée, I had the fish tacos. They were a great size and full of flavor, though I do wish there had been a little more sauce. My friend got the potato skins and said they were absolutely delicious. For drinks, we had an espresso martini and an old fashioned -- both were a solid 10/10. This is definitely a go-to spot! read more

Still like this place but it seems odd that they can't put the sound on the TVs. We were one of two tables in the place on a Monday night and the room was silent. We went in for lunch their opening week. We had the Cobb salad and the Brisket Melt with fries. The server was sweet, attentive and fast. The salad was enough for two and I got to take some home. I would skip the melt and just order brisket because that was the star of the sandwich. It was the hand-cut fries that were my favorite. Good fries around here are hard to come by. It was our first time there, and we were seated immediately with our choice of table. We chose a spot by the window, which gave us a nice view and added to the relaxed vibe. The decor is warm and inviting, with earthy tones of brown and green that create a cozy, modern atmosphere. The chairs were surprisingly comfortable, which made settling in even easier. Mary, our server, greeted us with a friendly smile, promptly brought water, and took our drink orders. She was attentive throughout the meal without being intrusive--a perfect balance. For food, my friends ordered the Cobb Salad and the Pulled Pork Plate with tater tots. I went with the Patty Melt and fresh-cut fries. The food arrived quickly and looked fantastic--and tasted even better! My melt was cooked exactly medium-well, just as I requested, and the fries were piping hot, just the way I like them. We never had to ask for refills; Mary was on top of everything. Overall, it was a great experience. WE are definitely planning to return during happy hour to check out the half-off starters. I was so happy to see this place open up! A perfect location and the vibes are great. They've got the cutest outdoor patio too! We received amazing service - came in on a Saturday evening with a baby and stroller and they were able to accommodate us right away. I love the menu - a lot of variety but not too much. Went in for lunch and Tammy was our server. First, Tammy's joy is contagious! Love her! Second, food was delicious. I had the Steak Salad, kids had the cheeseburger and grilled chicken melt. Lifelong Lombardian checking in! I used to go to the Grove Restaurant all the time back in the day and I think the Grove Tavern is owned by the same family. Went for the first time and loved it! Highly recommend the fried cauliflower and pulled pork sandwich. Really appreciate how substituting sweet potato fries was only an extra $1. Our waitress was attentive but not hovering. My friend and I actually split the sandwich because of how full we were! You won't leave hungry that's for sure. I saw an outdoor dining space so this would be a great place on summer nights. I will start this review stating I have visited Grove Tavern around 10 times. I have noticed over these visits that the food has been very inconsistent. Some times it is amazing, others it is dried out and tastes old. My last order was placed on a Friday night and simply for a cheeseburger, medium rare. What I received was a bean burger. When I called, it was takeout, the hostess passed the phone a woman identified herself as the owner and that their ticket indicated sub a bean burger. Instead of either replacing the item or offering a refund, she decided it was better to argue that I was incorrect. I may or may not return, certainly not anytime soon, but hopefully they work on their service. If you want a good burger, go to any of the other options available within walking distance of Grove Tavern. If you want inconsistent, overpriced, mediocre food, then this is the place. On a positive note, the space is comfortable and the outdoor area is nice. But really, if service is terrible there is nothing ambiance can do to help. Save your money, save your time, go somewhere else. read more

Our first time trying Grove Tavern and I'll definitely go again. Our waitress was so sweet and everything came out really fast. We sat outside and I loved the lights and another patio in dt Lombard! The food was all great and the drinks were pretty good. Mine tasted a little watered down, but I'll try another cocktail next time. However, an issue is that people are allowed to smoke and vape on the patio. There was a large group of women tonight that were continuously blowing smoke *towards* other tables!! They let their vapes sit on the table the entire time and multiple wait staff never said anything. As an asthmatic I'll have to be wary of coming back if this is an allowed policy to occur in a restaurant. Pretty disappointing honestly. I was planning on saying something to the host but they were not there when we were leaving. I hope the restaurant gets a little stricter and doesn't allow smoking of any kind in their restaurant. read more

We had Brussel sprout appetizer, they were cooked unevenly, some mushy some undercooked, and had so much sauce on them that they weren't enjoyable. Smash burger was just OK, there's way better options in the neighborhood so I wouldn't order it from here again. My partner had the fish and chips and liked the fish. The fries were pretty average. The service was fine, checked on us once, the manager personally checked on all the tables which was a nice touch. So overall, I'll visit again after they work out some more kinks. read more

To the me, the word tavern implies alcohol served later than 10 pm on a Saturday night. We were warned to get our food order in as the kitchen closed at 9:30.
