I really like their gyro platter. The gyro meat was seasoned well and was probably one of the best tasting gyros I've tried. I also enjoyed the salad and the dressing was like a Greek dressing, which was really good. The only downfall was the fries were not crispy. 4/1/2024---Oh, how I wish I would have read the reviews before visiting. Fresh off a Lenten fast I was craving a gyro sandwich after work. I've been here once before, many years ago, and remember saying I'd never go back because I wasn't impressed. I honestly don't remember what I had the first time (probably a chicken sandwich), but I do know I had no intentions on ever returning. But, hey, we're all entitled to change our minds. So here we are, disappointed for the last time, for real this time. I ordered a gyro sandwich with extra tzatziki, giardiniera, and fries. My standard order wherever I go for a gyro. As mentioned by a prior review, the staff is very gruff, I was ok with that. I chalked it up to them being very regimented and behavioral plasticity from constant public interaction. Considering they have heavy drive-thru traffic and constant carry out orders. Wait time for food was about 5 minutes or so. When I opened my food, I was instantly turned off. I eat with all 5 senses. So, to see my food looking like vomit, I was done, yet I still commenced to eat. As a self-proclaimed giardiniera connoisseur, I've never seen it orange and didn't like the taste. The"tzatziki" was indescribably horrible, so that could have affected my impression of the giardiniera. The consistency of the "tzatziki" was that of mayonnaise and tasteless. Speaking of consistency, the gyros texture was mushy like wet paper (think paper straws). The fries are what carried this meal for me. Crinkle cut, crispy bite with soft potato inside. If I thought it would have made a difference, I would've told them the gyro wasn't edible and asked for my money back. I chalked it up as a loss, knowing I'll never return. The lack of quality ingredients at a price point that isn't congruent is abhorrent. Food is too expensive now to also be disgusting. They've been in business over 30 years according to the sign in the window, so for those who love it, eat til your hearts content. Housekeeping items: I dined in. The dining area is well kept. You can order it delivery or pick up, go through the drive-through, or eat inside. It's typical fast food service. The place is old and it shows, but they try to keep it clean. read more

I ordered a Chicken Gyro it was dry and tasted terrible not to mention the tzatziki sauce was some made up of some sweet mayo sauce that made it worse. I took the sandwich back in to the restaurant. The owner was being very cocky and I could tell he didn't like that I brought it back. Instead he gave me a regular gyro which wasn't that much better. I couldn't eat it either. We were out visiting the Homewood Artisan Fair and worked our way over to Ariston at the corner of 175th & Kedzie for lunch afterward. Now who doesn't like a hot dog for lunch? We are fans of Don's on 151st (now closed as it burned down) and Mickie's over in Worth, but you can never have too many hot dog places. And we liked Ariston. The sign outside shows that they specialize in gyros and hot dogs were the last item on the marquee, but that didn't stop us - thankfully. We each had a dog (4 star hot dogs) - one with just mustard and the other with everything but peppers and boy were they good. Nice snap to the dog, and the condiments (5 stars for the everything version) - whether you had a little or a lot - were fresh and tasty. The hot dogs were all beef Vienna dogs. Comparatively speaking - we liked Ariston's hot dogs better than Mickie's, but Mickie's had the better French fries. Ariston's also had great service. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and they did a nice job keeping the place very clean. Now this little corner restaurant has indoor seating of about a dozen tables (pandemic spaced count) and a busy drive up window outside. Either way you get fresh made food and it comes out fast. Next time we visit we'll try the gyros - they looked and smelled fantastic and this place does not skimp on the meat. Most of the people we saw coming in ordered gyros ... so that's our next lunch out here. Their beef sandwich with giardiniera also looked fab. Give this little place a try - although you'll have to enter it from about 100 feet down on either 175th or on Kedzie as there is no entrance in front. read more

Worst customer service ever!!! I just left Ariston for a second time, literally still sitting in the parking lot writing this. My first visit was the drive thru, where I ordered a Philly cheesesteak, veggies cooked well done, and please add mayo. I get home, took my first bite, it was BLAND!!! No seasoning whatsoever!!! I took another small bite, just to be sure...and sure enough...STILL BLAND! So I immediately take my food back and explain that my food tasted bland and I would just like another sandwich. But the little leprechaun in the front was adamant about giving me my money back, all the while, I'm explaining that I really don't want the money, just another sandwich with some seasoning! The best thing about Ariston are the hours. They are usually open when everything except McDonald's is closed. Tonight I had my husband pick up a Polish and fries. Fries did not automatically come with the polish. The food was decent but the fries aren't worth it. I had 10 fries wrapped inside the same paper as the polish. Given that they charge extra for fries, the fries should come in their own bag. Then maybe I'd get more than 10 french fries. read more

Disgusting. Please avoid if possible. I ordered a Gyro plate. It took forever!! Then I received my order. The lettuce from the salad was wilted, fries were mediocre, and they gave me ranch sauce instead of tzatziki sauce. I inquired about the ranch thinking that it was maybe just a mixup. Several of the people behind the counter became defensive/upset stating that it was indeed tzatziki sauce. Gyro meat also tasted really cheap. It was a waste of $10. Inedible. There aren't a lot of places where you can go and the taste and quality of the food do not change. You can add Ariston to that list of places. I've been coming here for over 25 years and I enjoy the food just as much as I enjoyed it on the first day. I might enjoy it more now since I live in Virginia and don't get to have the food as often as I did when I lived here. My go to meals are the polish and fries, gyro plate, and the cheeseburger and fries. Today, I took a trip down memory lane and had the polish with fries. The polish was right on point. It was fresh cooked and included all of the things that made it the best polish in the south suburbs (poppy seed bun, mustard, hot peppers, chopped onions, and tomato). While eating this one, I honestly wished that I had ordered another one so that I could just continue the enjoyment. The fries were so good that I never once considered ketchup. This was a very tasty trip down memory that may continue because writing this review is having me crave another one. read more

Tonight 1/5/19 I placed a togo order for a chicken philly pita with everything and a side of fries. I told the guy to put extra mushrooms on my sandwich. The last 4xs I've ordered take out the philly chicken pita is always under seasoned. I politely ask the guy over the phone can they please season the chicken. He replied they always do. Not in the mood to argue, so I didn't respond. I went through the drive thru to pick up my order. I taste a few pieces of the chicken and it is bland as usual! On top of that there wasn't that much mushrooms I pointed out to the cashier my pita didn't have extra mushrooms. After speaking with the cook, the cashier come back to the drive thru window to tell me and I quote, " the cook said he did put extra mushrooms. He will news for you to come inside because he will have to cut new mushrooms for you." I explained, my little guy is sound asleep and I cannot leave him in the car to get mushrooms. I ask can the cook make them for me and put them in a to-go container. The cashier told me no, the cook need for you to come inside. I am disappointed with my meal. I ate my fries when I arrived home. The fries were not seasoned! This meal cost a little over $10, what a waste! Save your money and time. Don't eat here! read more

Reviews are good guidelines but what if your tastes are different from the reviewers? There are many places in this area to get a gyro. I looked at Yelp to help me decide which one to eat at and I ended up here based the great reviews. I like a cucumber- yogurt tzatziki sauce with a slight garlic aroma and some dill or mint notes. This "award winning" sauce is SWEET! Tastes like ranch dressing. . . cheap ranch dressing. No yogurt, no sour cream flavor, just an overwhelming sugary yelch poured over my gyro with a heavy hand. If you end up here wondering if you're going to like this sauce, get it on the side. Then you can decide how much you want to dump on your gyro! If I could get past the god awful sweetness of this sauce I might still have appreciated it because the meat was dry and tasteless. Not dry with crispy edges, just dry. I don't get it. Add some fattier cuts of meat to the mix. I want that juice running down my wrist! One of the reviewers had mentioned the pita being perfectly toasted. Unfortunately that wasn't my experience. I would have appreciated my pita placed on a hotter grill or a little more time on the grill. If you want it toasted, ask specifically. My pita was warm but not toasted. On the up side, the pita was generously filled with meat and the staff was friendly and efficient. The lobby area was clean and if I had liked the flavors of the gyro I would say I had received good value for the money. I also ordered a Greek salad. It was not horrible but I would not recommend it. With so many other choices for gyro in the area, I cannot recommend Ariston's gyros. read more

I used to think that this place was 5 stars. Now it's a 2 at best. The employees must be genetic defects because they don't care about special orders. Want a taco with no tomatoes and no onions? Not happening. Want a flour tortilla? Great! We'll give you corn. The cheese fries? It's actually more a small fry with a dollop of cheese. I'll try again when it's late and I'm desperate but there are better places out there so I won't be racing to eat here again anytime soon. The only good thing was the taco once I pulled all of the tomatoes and onions out. The beef was good but ruined by the corn tortilla. I just wanted flour. Standard hot dogs but not even a true Chicago style - no pickle or celery salt. The buns also seemed stale and were hard. Ariston's is always good, been eating here over 10yrs. I usually get what I know but every time I try something new I'm never disappointed.

The food is great and the owner is a really nice person. I've ate here for years.
