I really wanted to try this place out, the food itself was OK, and the portions were too little especially for the price that I paid. Ordered some salt and pepper fillet, chowmein and sweet corn soup. Salt and pepper fish fillet is the only good one primarily because it actually had some salt. We have lived in Newark for a few years now, and New Ocean remains our favorite even after trying many others in the Newark and Fremont area. The owner is really nice and food is always prepared fresh, tasty and fairly quickly. We have also ordered for birthday parties too. Our go tos are the salt and pepper spare ribs (bomb), mongolian beef, bbq pork fried rice (best I have had as I prefer the drier kind), honey walnut prawns, and the interesting and flavorful hung tao yee wonton soup. RUDE! I placed a large order through a delivery service, but it was delivered to the wrong address. The delivery service tried to make it right, and placed the order again. A few minutes later a very rude person from New Ocean called me directly, and yelled at me for placing a second order saying they already made my order and they weren't going to do it again. I tried to explain that the original order was not delivered, and she hung up on me. When I called the delivery service to update them, the customer service rep said she yelled at her too! I've been a customer of New Ocean for over 10 years and don't feel good about writing a poor review for a local business that I've been loyal to, but since they hang up on you it's impossible to provide feedback privately. I just met the Asian soup Nazi! I ordered soup and lemon chicken from Good Neighbor restaurant, but went to New Ocean to pick it up by mistake. After explaining to the lady I went to the wrong place and I wanted to order from her, she refused to let me order and told me to go to the other restaurant instead because they already made it for me. I told her I would cancel and just order it from her at New Ocean but she refused me again. So I left telling her I guess she didn't want my business. Last friday I was panicked when my mom invited more relatives than we had food, so I had to use the search function on Yelp to find more Chinese food! I realized this was the only Chinese place in Newark I havent tried. Upon entrance, I was warmly greeted, but the place was empty! I thought to myself, "empty on a Friday night?" Uh oh! I went ahead and trusted my gut, and surely, people were comjng in to pick up their take out orders. The hostess recomennded walnut prawns, so I got two orders, a seafood chow fun, seafood fried rice, snowpeas and bamboo shoots and salt and pepper tofu. Because i spent more than $35, I got free frid rice! Everything was amazingly hood! The walnut prawns were crispy and abundunt! Each order had 15 pieces! The fried rice and chowfun were not greasy at all. Overall, I cant wait to come back and try more from the menu. The place was small and family owned, and the service was great. Love the food strongly dislike the service I ordered over 38$ worth of food because the menu states free fried rice or chow mein for order over $38 free delivery AND (a choice of pork chicken beef or veggie egg rolls) when I said I would like both the chow mein and veggie egg rolls she told me my new total and I was highly confused when I jumped 5.25 plus tax on top of that when confronted about the wording on the menu she insulted me and was very rude! I have never written a bad review to any restaurant but I decided to write one for this restaurant because it was such a bad experience. FYI, their Yelp and Google hours are not updated. The owner lady yelled at me horribly on phone for not picking up the food by 7pm saying that they are closed at 7. She didn't mention that at all when I ordered over phone and I thought they're open until 8:30pm because that's what I found on Yelp and Google! I was already driving when she called me (around 7:30). Anyway, she was very rude over the phone and hanged up. Even that, I still picked up the food and said sorry to her saying that I didn't know they are closed at 7. She again yelled at me nonstop about the tragedy that she had to wait for me 40 mins and talked shit about me in Chinese language when I left the counter (thinking that I don't understand Chinese?). I didn't talk anything back anymore about the google hours or the rude comments as she wasn't listening but yelling nonstop. It was such a terrible customer service I have ever had, and I was so shocked by the horribly rude owner lady. Will never be back! read more

Passed by this place hundreds of times. The hubby was in the mood for some fried rice and we didn't want to drive all the way to Pacific Commons. If you don't get lucky and find parking upfront, pull in because they have a few more spots at rear. There was only another couple eating and we were asked to sit wherever we wanted. Nothing out of the ordinary about this place, you have your everyday Chinese decor and a large water tank with some coy fish. Service was fast but the bringing of the food was not so speedy. Not a bad sign however, at least we knew the food was being made as we waited and not just being reheated. I did use their restroom and their toilet is hillarious. Very bad service. Came here with my mom and 2 year old. For some reason my mom likes this place. The waitress kept passing our table multiple times and never said hello. Took the guys order next to us that came after us. 10 minutes after we were just sitting there she decided to take our order. My 2 year old had a small mess of rice on the table (not nearly as bad as she has in other restaurants). The lady comes to our table, rolls her eyes and says "oh no"! Lady you run a restaurant, you should be used to this. All other places we went to say "don't even worry about it". I noticed that some of their tablecloths have splashes of dried food on them. We absolutely love this place. We always order Walnut Shrimp and Salt and Pepper Pork. The BBQ Pork fried rice is also pretty amazing. My husband has a food allergy and the staff is always very polite and understanding, and cooks their food to order, so we never have any issues. It's that favorite hole in the wall Chinese place that you always go to. It's a little chaotic and the lady owner will let you know it at peak times, but the food is worth it. We always get the salt and pepper "meat of choice", sweet and sour "meat of choice", Mongolian beef, Szechuan eggplant, shrimp chow mein, wonton soup, walnut shrimp, fish in black bean sauce and fried rice. There are other things we've tried and I haven't been disappointed. Um, & your order is always ready in 20 mins, if you know what I mean. Lol!! Oh and you get free item of choice - fried rice, chow mein, or egg rolls with purchase of what used to be $25, then $28, then $32, then $38 & now $42! My office orders from here often. We browse their menu online, order by phone and then pick up. They are very quick with taking your order, and are precise. Great selections on their menu and their green onion pancakes are absolutely delicious. They remind me a lot of the food we make back home. Every time I came to pick up, the order was prepared and fresh and correct. They only have one cashier that is there and she gave me a free soda once, and another time knocked off the change amount making my bill even during payment. I've been meaning to post a review for this place for quite sometime now. I've tried a lot of the Chinese places around the Newark area and New Ocean has won me over. I usually come to this place once a week and get the same dish everytime (sesame chicken) so I can't review for anything else.. but that sesame chicken is amazing! Been to this place a few times already so I thought it's time to give them a review. They're always consistent with the quality of the dishes they prepare. Their chicken wonton soup is my daughter's favorite. Their sweet and sour pork isn't heavily drenched in batter. Chicken fried rice and beef chow fun is perfectly seasoned. They also prepare your dish to your liking upon request. I always ask for my salt n pepper shrimp with the shell on and extra jalapeño pepper.
