Isn't it absolutely wonderful when you go to an island and find a place that's SO GOOD you go there twice! Ok maybe it's just me BUT this place is definitely worth a stop. Brunch: smoked salmon Benedict and chicken and waffles, endless supply of their awesome coffee and a great view. PEOPLE this was just utter perfection oozing eggs over flavorful salmon and perfect hollandaise. Then the chicken *pauses for effect* did I mention the caramel maple syrup concoction they make... ok no words just order this Dinner: we did more of the small plates then the entree because everything looked so so good. Duck Mac n cheese that's right DUCK oh and the cheese the melty gooey cheese, let me tell u a lot of places say they have great Mac n cheese uh uh this is the real deal guys. Wagyu slides .... little pieces of heaven! Crab cakes, whoever said that you need to order two of these is right it's just spot on. Seating area was very cute and everything was very tasty- especially for being on a small island where I'm sure supplies are less plentiful. Staff was kind and helpful and the view is great. We only get to experience Orcas Island once a year, so we usually try to broaden our dining experiences as much as possible to get the full effect. And with so many great restaurants, that's usually easy. This year however, we ended up eating here three different times because the food was just that incredible. Big big fan of new leaf cafe. Definitely take advantage of their Yelp Waitlist function because it does seem like it can get busy. We stopped by for brunch before starting our day and our meal was absolutely delicious. They had one of the best bloody marys I've ever had. My eggs benedict was well cooked and my husband's waffles were soo good. The buttermilk syrup that came with it was addictive, I was drinking spoons of it. We also split the truffle fries which was a very good idea. If you sit outside there's nice people watching and a lovely view of Eastsound. Cute atmosphere on a cozy island, with exceptionally fine food. Stopped here with my husband for a romantic dinner after a day of whale watching, and it was the perfect end to the day. Please try the duck confit Mac & cheese- I will be dreaming about it for a while. The other highlight was the filet mignon in a port wine pomegranate demiglaze-- it was a really interesting flavor that worked perfectly. Everything else was delicious too. We had the French onion soup and smoked salmon pasta as well. For dessert, the flourless chocolate cake was too dense for me, but the pomegranate gelato it came with was perfect. The goat cheese cheesecake was delicious & tangy, although personally I would have liked a little less lemon curd on top. There was plenty more on the menu I would have loved to try, so if you're staying in Orcas definitely check it out! read more

Located in the Inn, the New Lead Cafe is probably your best bet for a nice sit down breakfast. Of course there's the Brown Bear bakery just a block away, but if you really want to relax in the morning, you should probably come here. The duck confit waffles were a unique twist on the classic fried chicken and waffle dish you may have had elsewhere, but more sophisticated and unique. The syrup had a little kick--not too much-- and the duck itself could easily have been a dinner entree with how flavorful it was. Getting into the restaurant was pretty easy 30 minutes after opening, and they have a virtual waitlist on Yelp so you can pretty easily add yourself to it and then walk around the area until your table is ready. read more

Been coming to Orcas for the last 8-10 years staying in Deer Harbor condos....we wanted to try a new breakfast place.....cool across the street water views....smaller place , 7-8 window tables and another 5-6 off the windows. This is a "foodie" type breakfast place, so we opted for the 2 eggs and bacon, (was good) and the wife had the 3 egg omelet that was a more "vegan" option with Bria cheese, and truffle butter and country potatoes. This where it went off the rails a bit.....potatoes were very salty and the omelette had a "different" taste, now mind you were not generally healthy eaters as far as food selections...I did order coffee with breakfast and after finishing most of it, set my cup at the edge of the table to indicate a refill, waitress came by 3-4 times ( this is a small place), and didn't refill or even ask "how's breakfast or ??). Wife took 2 bites and didn't finish her meal! To wrap up, we did mention her meal was not to her liking and was removed from the bill making it easier to take a $5 cup of brewed coffee....lol so if looking for a traditional breakfast.... look else where! On a side note, 2 waitress's working and the other with black hair was Very attentive to her customers! And hope ours has a better day ahead..... read more

I've been here before and enjoyed it but was disappointed this time and would not recommend or return. One of our steaks was ordered medium rare and arrived well done. As no one ever arrived to check on us, that member of the party decided to just eat rather than wait. My plate was just average tasting. Nothing I would ever pay for again. Second set of drink orders took forever as well. They did comp the steak and drinks. 5 stars for the location only. I think the other reviewers have vacation bias. read more

My friends and I stopped for a snack here while walking along the water, and we were pleasantly surprised! We went around 4pm, and they gave us a beautiful table on their deck with a view of the water. It was a bit windy, and our server brought us blankets so we could stay cozy and enjoy the view. We had the oysters and the goat cheese salad, which were all mouthwatering. The butter sauce for the oysters was so good that we started eating it with a spoon once we finished the oysters. My husband and I came to Orcas for a week and wanted to end our trip with a nice sit down dinner and the New Leaf Cafe looked like the best option. We made a reservation before just to make sure we could get a table. We're we're seated outside which was great and their outdoor and indoor tables were all spaced out and the staff was adhering to the new COVID/ health standards so we felt totally safe. We ordered the Caesar salad and some bread to start. For the main dishes my husband got the rack of lamb and I got the scallops. The rack of lamb looked great and my husband could attest to the fact that it actually was great (I wasn't able to try since it was medium cooked and I'm pregnant). As for the scallops, they were in this wasabi sauce and served with some grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. I'm usually not a huge wasabi fan but this sauce was excellent as it wasn't overwhelming and was actually a little sweet. It was so good I literally cleaned up every drop of sauce with the bread. I don't think I've ever truly cleaned a plate like I did on that night. Needless to say I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're over on Orcas. Since it was COVID they were only doing dinner service Thursday-Sunday so I look forward to going back and getting to try some their other menus when they bring back their other serving times. read more

Had a lovely meal here with friends. We sat outside and the view was lovely. It was a little chilly and they have blankets available. Got the cauliflower steak as an entree and it was quite good. One of our friends got a vegan version as an appetizer and loved it. They also made her a special vegan pasta which she enjoyed and appreciated. My wife and other friend enjoyed the octopus appetizer and the pork shanks. They also had the two salmon specials. Some of the portions seemed small for the price. Oh, WOW! Thank you Orcas Island! This is now our destination food place in Eastsound. We had dinner. The French Onion soup was divine. The complimentary bread was fresh and obviously local. The clams in a delicate creme/curry sauce with apple cider. The shoestring fries were sea salted and seasoned with truffle oil.....and all menu served at the bar with an attentive and excellent bartender. We earnestly wanted to return for the extremely popular breakfast of Eggs Benedict.......because we knew that the reviewers HAD to be right about it, after our dinner experience! Sadly, travel by boat interfered with our plans, and we were delayed a day. We tied to the nearby County dock and hastened to breakfast, only to find it closed. NOOOOOO! It cannot be! Ironically, my menu pic clearly showed the off-season hours as being closed Tuesday and Wednesday. ‍ Check their website, folks! After reading the reviews, I knew this was going to be the perfect place for our last meal before heading out of the island. As you can tell, it did not disappoint. Conveniently situated right next to the water, the patio view was amazing. We beat he lunch crowd and got seated instantly. service was steady and the waitress checked in pretty often. The food was so great - it's like they have mastered a few solid things and continue to do it well. I love how everything was made fresh in house, including the smoked salmon on my eggs benedict. I usually avoid the smoked salmon in many breakfast places because they end up being overwhelmingly salty, but not this place. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned, as was everything else. Loved the duck confeit hash as well. And did I mention how delicious their raspberry jam was?? Ooooff! I think I can sum it up with what my husband said in the end: "We should have been eating breakfast here every day." Will definitely return and bring back more people to this place! read more

Nice dinner after a full day of hiking on Sucia island. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and we were seated promptly, very courteous staff and positive first impression. Wife got the pan fried scallops in wasabi cream sauce and mashed potatoes, very good especially the wasabi sauce. Scallops could have been bigger and meatier, but they were cooked to perfection. I decided to get two small plates, the wagyu sliders and the sake fried chicken. Both good, but not stellar. Daughter got Mac and cheese and simple fries. They had truffle oil fries in the menu, but we asked for the simple ones. M&C was surprisingly good, above average. The fries were spectacular, super crispy and delicious. My daughter was so upset that we all had some, that she wanted more. We obliged and got one more serving. Really good, she couldn't stop talking about those fries. I finished with the delicious chocolate mousse. If you're in orcas island definitely book for dinner, it's worth it. read more

Some people that we met told us about this wonderful restaurant and I'm glad they did. We started off our dining experience with the crab cakes appetizer $16. That were fantastic. I had the Verjus halibut $36 that was served on top of golden mashed potatoes. The halibut was chared and very moist. This has got to be the best halibut diner ever! My wife had the Scallops $36 that were beautifully prepared consisting of 6 medium sized scallops in a light sauce. Valero, our server took great care of us. Stopped for breakfast on a typical PNW gray morning. I was there when it opened and it filled fast. Quick, friendly service with a nice view of the water. The Crab Cake Benedict was excellent. Although the cakes are fairly small, they are full of sweet crab flavor and pair very well with the hollandaise. At $32 the dish isn't cheap (along with $5 drip coffee), but the ingredients are top shelf and well prepared (with one exception - see below). They also offered a unique local Lopez Island hot sauce made with chilis, cacoa, and goji berries (called Chicaoji). The cider vinegar was too strong when tasted alone but it worked well with the crispy, well seasoned potatoes and sauce. The only issue (and for me, it's a big one when it comes to benedicts) - the eggs were over poached and the yolks were nearly cooked through. Much of the magic of eggs benedict is that rich, runny yolk; it cost them the 5th star on this review. Maybe try ordering yours soft poached to be safe - I wish I had asked just to be sure. Otherwise, enjoy this upscale spot on beautiful Orcas Island. read more
