My wife found New Image Landscaping through Yelp and we made an appointment with them. As scheduled, Bryce showed up and did an initial walkthrough of our frontyard and backyard with us. We discussed what we wanted and he also gave us some helpful opinions on what would look good on our property. We also discussed an appropriate budget for the work that we wanted - straight to the point, very professional, no beating around the bush! Later on, Bryce sent us a detailed quote of the artificial grass that we wanted to put in and the drought tolerant plants that we wanted in the backyard and frontyard. Once we agreed on the scope of work, we signed the contract and scheduled with Bryce when they would start the work. On the first day of work, they sent like 6-8 guys to demo the backyard! They were very punctual and worked really hard! By day 3, they were about 90% done with our project! Throughout the entire process, Bryce did an excellent job with keeping us informed of the progress via text. He was very responsive and answered any questions that we had in a timely fashion. He was also super knowledgeable about plants! At the end of the project, we did a final walkthrough of the frontyard and backyard, and the artificial grass, drought tolerant plants, and pea gravel looked perfect! We also had some drip irrigation installed that worked perfectly! Three-month warranty, dishonest employees, and greedy business owner. - I spent $40K+ with John. New irrigation. 185 hedges. 3 Magnolia all dead, 8 citrus tree, one dead. Artificial turf, 6 sagging areas. Good job John. - The Magnolia died, John would charge me a fee to take the dead trees out, Or buy new trees at a "discounted" price. why? Because I didn't pay for $300 to have them maintaining the yard. But new image did all the irrigation. - The irrigation. Their team broke too many pipes, I believe, and they are tired of fixing them, and replace them all with tubing. They left with leaking sprinkler valve which I found months later. I still have problems getting the tubing system working perfectly. And that's how those Magnolia have died. From John's perspective, they are died, because they weren't supervising them. But if you could get the irrigation done correctly, tested it, no tree would die. Why would I pay someone $3,600 a year to supervise their own work? - There are 6 big sagging areas on the artificial turf. They didn't follow the industry standard, to use class 2 road base, they use cheap dirt They also glue the turf on the ground, and it looks very unnatural. They offer a three-month labor warranty, beyond three months, you are on your own sweetheart. From all the other companies I've heard of so far, they offer anywhere between 1 - 3 years labor warranty, mostly 3 years, and a 10 - 15 years' warranty on material. - At the time I paid John, he said he would do a pressure clean on my house; after the money is paid, I never saw John again. To all of you: John understands how to nibble very well, and he knows how to sell. If you want to be bite, call them now! Don't let some of the good reviews fool you, please. I was fooled by that. To John, I hope you'd change the way you take care of your customers. I could have referred ten more customers, but you got none of them, simply because you want to make a couple of hundred dollars more out of me, and you want to move on and make money from your new customers. Don't be that greedy, and make your warranty reasonable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To respond to your lies: There's one thing I don't tolerate in my life, liars. 1. I wish I had the amazing experience but mine was a disaster. The sprinkler system is not specific by area. Sprinklers in two areas water both shaded areas and sunny areas. Shady areas are always muddy if sunny area watered properly. Sunny areas die if water turned down for shady areas. Additional problems: sprinklers over water in some areas due to improper spacing, main lines run through vegetable garden instead of under grass. Grass recommended was Bermuda. John knew I had dogs. Two problems with Bermuda grass. Dog urination causes brown spots and Bermuda grass does not grow in the shade. I originally ordered St. Augustine. I previously had St. Augustine grass and it grew in shade and was not stained by dog urine. Additionally, the grass seems to be contaminated with an unknown weed. Problems on the job began the first day. 1. They did not show up and rescheduled for the following day. 2. The job was supposed to take 2 - 3 weeks it took 3 months. 3. The walkway in front yard was not installed correctly, due to mismanagement. The walkway had to be removed and redone. John only agreed to do it after I found a similar walkway done the correct way. The lava rocks that lined the walkway were damaged and never replaced. 4. They cut the tap root on my 25-year-old fig tree and killed it. I asked them to remove it and they did not. I had to pay another company to remove it. 5. The gate opening on fence was installed backwards and had to be reinstalled. 6. Agreed to hook up fountain and did not until I requested many times. 7. I was told I needed a new timing device. My old device had nine positions and ten were needed. When they hooked up the stations, they used one station for two areas. They had fruit trees which need deep soaking on the same line as shaded plants. All set for 10 minutes. They insisted there was no way to hook up the 10th station. I insisted it was possible and could be corrected and they finally ran the extra wire needed to hook up station ten. 8. Irrigation lines were kinked. 9. Crawl space was left open. 10. Said the vegetable garden area would be tilled and ready to plant. They sent someone out twice and did not till it deep enough for planting. I had to till it myself. 11. Ran the sprinkler pipes through garden instead of under grass on other side of fence. 12. Left concrete and debris on the street for more than a week. I needed to call code enforcement. 13. Buried a downspout drain. I had reviewed with them multiple times that it needed to be connected. 14. Needed to remind them clean up was not complete: left over concrete, junk left in yard, sledgehammer, rake. 15. Junk left in my wagon. 16. Junk left in driveway planter. 17. Pipe from old sprinkler left in upper planter. 18. Bender board in the front yard was not removed. 19. Crushed a downspout and needed reminder to fix. Still partially crushed. They should have replaced it. 20. Multiple appointments made with John or site manager. The appointments were not kept. 21. Tried to charge me for extra pallet of grass. They miscalculated and ordered way too much. John has not responded to my calls or letters. We are in a drought and the irrigation is not properly installed. The only response I've had is through email from the office, stating I signed off on the job. The problem with the irrigation and grass was not evident until time had passed. read more

I told them if we were happy with this job, we would give them more work through our other apartment buildings we own. When the bid came in for the first building, the quote seemed high. I first contacted John and New Image a little after the 2011 windstorm when our oak tree was left in shambles. I had wanted to get our back yard finished and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity. We had received 3 or 4 quotes and they were all in the same range and based on quite a few factors we chose New Image. As we were about to start our job, our dog needed several surgeries which pretty much eliminated our yard budget, so the project went on hold. No hard feelings from John. He let us know that he would still be there when we were ready again and he was. Nearly a year later we went back to John and he honored the original quote. That didn't matter much though since our idea had changed a lot. In preparing for the project we needed a permit to remove the decrepit oak tree and John walked us through the process step by step. He even went to the Pasadena Permit Department for us a few times. John worked with us as we went through numerous design changes and when we finally settled on what we wanted, he and his team carried out the plan flawlessly.
