    Squirrel Light

Highly recommend Alejandro and Fifth Element Landscape. They have done several projects at our home including most recently lacing out our trees and installing yard lighting. When our gardener broke a sprinkler water pipe by accident, Alejandro came over before his work day started and fixed the pipe. His crew is fast, tidy and very professional. I specifically wanted a "light trim" of our Deodara and it has never looked better. The new lighting looks great too!

    Sprinkler system

Alejandro helped revive my lawn with a new sprinkler system and sod. He also installed a flagstone walkway nearby. He gave lots of helpful input on design and best options for fixing the area, and did it for a reasonable price. Will definitely have him back for my next project!

    During the work

Alejandro and his crew did such a wonderful job. On time, on budget, and beautiful work. He really is an artist with stone work. Job: I wanted a raised flower bed in my front yard made from a river rock wall. Also wanted river rock on the edges of my garden due to the yard being on a slope and the soil eroding out onto the sidewalk and street. Cost: Of the three estimates I got for the work, Alejandro's was right in the middle. Estimate/design appointment: Alejandro immediately understood the aesthetics of what I wanted. He didn't try to talk me into something more modern looking, which is what the other companies did during their estimates. He took into account the type of house (1920's bungalow) and character of the neighborhood when discussing design. Additionally, I initially wanted a wall at the end of my yard to hold in the soil, but Alejandro told me he could do it with just large stones that match the river rock planter, and it would way less expensive and more subtle. I loved his idea and that's what we did. Work: He and his crew did it in four days. They were on time, friendly, and professional. Conclusion: I'm already planning on hiring Alejandro again to do some work in the backyard. Worth every penny.

Before - the hill was sliding down and over the retaining wall, previous owners tried to stop it with random bricks

I was so worried about the mess and the stress of a big project, but they made the whole process so easy. The crew was incredibly polite, they showed up right on time every single day, and they cleaned up after themselves beautifully when they were finished. You can really tell they take pride in their work because the wall looks so sturdy and gorgeous. It gives me such peace of mind knowing it was done right. If you need any work done, do yourself a favor and call them. They are just wonderful!

He was knowledgeable, professional, and conveyed significant industry experience. We were then introduced to the sales team, who described the project as straightforward and estimated that the work could be completed within 6-8 weeks based on plans that had already been approved by the city. Instead, the project extended to approximately seven months and was marked by persistent communication issues, poor coordination among team members, inadequate project management, and a lack of consistent oversight. After the contract was signed, both Matt and our sales representative became largely unavailable. We were assigned a project manager who was unfamiliar with the approved plans and frequently required clarification on basic project details. When we raised concerns with our sales representative, we were told that project-related issues were outside his responsibility, and we were not directed to anyone else who could effectively address them. Partway through the project, the company hired a new Director of Operations who assured us that existing issues would be resolved and the project would be brought back on track. Unfortunately, communication remained inconsistent, calls and messages often went unanswered, and there were periods of multiple weeks when no work was performed on site. A significant issue throughout the project was the apparent lack of communication between departments. Sales, project managers, foremen, office staff, and accounting frequently appeared to be operating independently, resulting in repeated miscommunications, conflicting information, and a constant stream of redundant calls, texts, and emails. As a customer, it often felt as though we were responsible for relaying information between members of their own team. One (of many) examples: we scheduled a walk through prior to making our final payment. A week later the accounting team threatened to put a mechanic's lien on our house because we hadn't paid yet. Apparently no one was talking to each other within their office. The company also relied on a long succession of subcontractors. In our experience, many arrived on site without a clear understanding of the scope of work and without access to the approved plans. This led to confusion, delays, and avoidable mistakes. Most concerning were incidents that appeared to result directly from lack of oversight. Work performed by the team caused significant damage to our sewer line. On another occasion, concrete was scheduled to be poured over exposed electrical lines that had not yet been reconnected, a situation that could have created serious complications had it not been identified beforehand. We made several attempts to speak directly with Matt regarding our concerns about project quality, management, and coordination. However, we were repeatedly told that he was unavailable or booked weeks in advance, and we were never able to have a meaningful discussion about the issues affecting our project. Based on our experience, the company presented a far different level of organization and oversight during the sales process than what was ultimately delivered once construction began.

They always showed up on time everyday and sometimes earlier than expected to do the work. I was really happy with their work ethic. I was going to give a 4-5 star review. However, my interactions with Andrew was not the greatest. He started off very responsive when providing me a quote for the job but the communication started to dwindle once he knew the job had started and his bid was accepted. He never once visited the job to verify and conduct quality control. Good thing he had dependable workers who took ownership of the job. Fast forward to when the job completed and a full payment has been made by me, I requested for a receipt and he's been unresponsive. He responded at first telling me he would send over a receipt but never followed through with his promise. Eventually, he completely started to ignore my calls and texts. It's a simple receipt request for my own records but I received zero reply. I'm glad things worked out so far with my concrete work but it's really concerning that there's been a lack of communication from the owner of the company. Not sure how much accountability anyone has when they collect someone's money and completely ghost them. If I could have gone with another company I would have just for someone who can provide better service all the way through the entire process.

I hired Apex to help me redo and repave my front driveway. After meeting with over a dozen contractors and driveway/pavement professionals, I ultimately chose Andrew due to his communication skills, fair pricing, and flexibility. Andrew and his crew finished the job in a mere 4 days, and the concrete turned out fantastic! Throughout the entire process, I greatly appreciated how easy it was to communicate my questions directly with Andrew via text and phone. Additionally, the guys were incredibly accommodating towards my specific circumstances -- I had construction working around them on the inside of the home and the Apex crew were tidy, professional, and considerate of those other workers.

We got other bids on the project but none compared to the honest, straightforward communication we got with Eddie. We benefitted from his years of experience but also from his long-held contacts in the field. During the building process things came up like needing the footings for the posts of a pergola another contractor was going to build for us on top of the patio but he was out of the country at the time. Not a problem. Eddie had worked with him on previous projects and was able to get the footings and install them for us. Then we needed to make decisions regarding any electrical we wanted on and around the patio which needed to be encased in tubing with all the other underlayment and Eddie's electrician buddy came right away to help us so that our project didn't get delayed. We didn't work with an architect on this project. It was just me laying down a garden hose to visualize what a patio would look like and going over it with my husband. Getting the elevations right was tricky since we didn't want a railing to obstruct our view of the garden. Eddie was so helpful with this but he also has the smartest right-hand-man, I think his name is Manuel, who saved the day for me. I wanted to extend the patio out a certain way and in telling him what I envisioned he improved the design on the spot! He eliminated one of the steps transforming the design making it more seamless and elegant. A small thing and yet it was huge in the scope of things. Don't hesitate to have Monroe Masonry do your job. Your only problem might be that he'll be too booked with work when you call.

Except for the LIEN we got from the concrete pump company he used. This was after the fact of paying Edwin. It was unnecessary stress on my elderly family members. I had to get mad at Edwin for not paying his subcontractor which then affect us and our property. I would suggest to make sure he has current insurances and that all his sub contractors are paid before your final payment to him. So maybe get their phone numbers to verify first? What a terrible expert. The work was decent and is a 5 star. But the business ethic of getting his people paid and affect people's title of their property. Not ok! Zero stars for that. I don't want to hurt his business by giving just one star so I will give 3 of 5.
