    After pour, 4in w/rebar
    Alex T.

Juan did a backyard pour, extremely satisfied. Solid work and wanted to go back to someone you're familiar with. No complaints. However, second time around I requested a quote for a front yard project. Communication was poor, scheduling was off, and didn't really sit right with me. Work is still solid, just unfortunate timing this time for me.

Great experience with this company. I got a number of quotes from different contractors and Torres Concrete and Concrete Pumping provided the best price. Service was great. They did the whole job in one day when we were planning for a two day job. The boss was very friendly and worked along side his employees. Workmanship was great. Very happy with the work and would definitely use them again.

Why bother with the rest if you can hire the best! Torres Concrete has done three jobs for us. Each job came out beautiful. Juan Torres is dependable, honest, skilled, reliable, clean, and timely. For any concrete work, Torres Concrete is the ONLY one to call and hire. Don't waste your time with others!

I reached out to Torres Concrete because I needed bricks fixed on my property. Super responsive and let me know that he could not do the work. He referred me to a Manuel Fernando Perez, who showed up to give me an estimate on the work. He seemed knowledgeable enough. From the beginning, things seemed off. He had one guy show up for three days and then said he wasnt working fast enough so he didnt show up Friday. On Saturday two guys showed up, wearing Torres Concrete shirts, and worked half a day, demanded payment when the work was not completed. The work was never completed. But I was left wondering why Torres Concrete referred me to someone with such terrible business practices. And why the guys that showed up were wearing Torres Concrete shirts. I was charged a lot of money and ended up having to do some of the work myself and hiring a guy to haul the demo bricks and concrete that they just left on my front lawn and backyard. Torres did respond and apologized for the referral, but I was left wondering if there was something else going on because he indicated that Manuel Perez was a former employee and that his men sometimes do side jobs. Such a terrible experience.

Juan and his crew did a great job for me. Not only did he give me great suggestions on proper drainage of the rainwater, but he even added additional concrete in areas we had not discussed, but turned out to be extremely beneficial. The job he did for me was beyond what I expected, and I would not only recommend his business, but hire him for other jobs in the future. Martinez, E

Needed help with creating a back cement stairs to our home, the team was very professional, Juan was a nice guy felt comfortable enough with him and the fair pricing that I didn't bother getting another quote elsewhere, they only do concrete so we needed handle for the stairs as well, he directed me to get one from Home Depot and drilled the holes for me and aided the installation free of charge, very happy with our stairs now

This review is long overdue. Juan and his team completed a unique job needed for the front of our detached garage. We had water issues where our garage is at the end of a sloped driveway which cause rain water to go into the garage. Juan came out to give and estimate and recommendation on what would fix our problem. He was very fair priced, knowledgeable and honest. We ended up contracting his team to demo a concrete slab and add a new step and drain pipe in front of our garage. We were finally able to test the resolution he provided with the recent storm and it held up beautifully! No water in our garage and the job looks great. I would highly recommend Juan and his team. He definitely has a return customer in us!

Concrete work was good, but clean up was poor, a lot of nails, screws, and trash (used food wrapping and drink cups) left behind in grass. Crew was not professional, stayed late, and played music very loud after 6pm. Wooden posts we're not predrilled and split during install. I paid for the crew to purchase and deliver the wooden posts and header for me, they appeared to be splitting and damaged after installation. The crew damaged my wooden fence after work was completed. Julio replaced the damaged fence panel, and made some repairs with wood glue and wood fillers; however, the quality of the header and posts were poor. Overall I am disappointed with he quality of the posts and the cleanup. I do recommend the concrete work, but not any framing work, and I would recommend supervising the crew during clean up.

    Dirt sideyard
    Jim P.

Recently had my sideyard paved to help with some ground drainage issues I was having. Out of everyone I reached out to on Yelp Juan was one of the fastest to respond. He was always responsive with all questions I had and was also able to get me a rough price estimate with pictures and measurements I sent him. I did not have to wait for someone to come out to my house and try and upsell me which was appreciated. I gave him a timeline when my house was going to be ready and he always kept in contact with me. He also was able to be more flexible with the start time. I am definitely going to use Juan again to do some more backyard work, I find it hard to find honest people in construction and glad I came across Juan and his team.

City require permit for side walk repair of water line
    Oink T.

I found Juan on yelp because he was nearby and had decent reviews. I mentioned to him that I need him to help me with permit for city repair concrete sidewalk and asphalt road. He answered my call and question and I text him some pictures, he was able to give me. Quote over the phone and speak to the city inspector and work on a solution with the city for cost effective solution. His price was reasonable and he was very nice and responsive, replied to my text and phone calls promptly and communicated well. THUMBS UP!

We hired Ivan's Masonry for two jobs: driveway renovation and a new stairway with walkway. From onset it was a long journey for us figuring out what material we will be comfortable with. Ivan patiently consulted us on every available material: concrete, stamping, coloring, and many styles from different providers of concrete pavers. None really resonated with our vision. After a month of research we ended up selecting clay pavers for their traditional look and lasting quality. The problem was that no contractor in our area would even consider working with clay pavers. Initially Ivan also refused but with some prodding he actually agreed to install clay pavers and did an amazing job. The team would start consistently punctually at 7 am and worked full days. Ivan, the owner, would work on the job 100%, including operating the equipment and setting the pavers. The site was kept reasonably clean and the process was well organized. We love the results. Our house became the model for the street as a first house with pavers. Many people complimented on the improvements and expressed the desire to contract with Ivan's Masonry. We are wising Ivan to prosper in his business, and for you guys - wishing you to choose your masonry contractor wisely. Go Ivan's Masonry!

He started off very responsive when providing me a quote for the job but the communication started to dwindle once he knew the job had started and his bid was accepted. He never once visited the job to verify and conduct quality control. Good thing he had dependable workers who took ownership of the job. Fast forward to when the job completed and a full payment has been made by me, I requested for a receipt and he's been unresponsive. He responded at first telling me he would send over a receipt but never followed through with his promise. Eventually, he completely started to ignore my calls and texts. It's a simple receipt request for my own records but I received zero reply. I'm glad things worked out so far with my concrete work but it's really concerning that there's been a lack of communication from the owner of the company. Not sure how much accountability anyone has when they collect someone's money and completely ghost them. We got other bids on the project but none compared to the honest, straightforward communication we got with Eddie. We benefitted from his years of experience but also from his long-held contacts in the field. During the building process things came up like needing the footings for the posts of a pergola another contractor was going to build for us on top of the patio but he was out of the country at the time. Not a problem. Eddie had worked with him on previous projects and was able to get the footings and install them for us. Then we needed to make decisions regarding any electrical we wanted on and around the patio which needed to be encased in tubing with all the other underlayment and Eddie's electrician buddy came right away to help us so that our project didn't get delayed. We didn't work with an architect on this project. It was just me laying down a garden hose to visualize what a patio would look like and going over it with my husband. Getting the elevations right was tricky since we didn't want a railing to obstruct our view of the garden. Eddie was so helpful with this but he also has the smartest right-hand-man, I think his name is Manuel, who saved the day for me. I wanted to extend the patio out a certain way and in telling him what I envisioned he improved the design on the spot! He eliminated one of the steps transforming the design making it more seamless and elegant. A small thing and yet it was huge in the scope of things. Don't hesitate to have Monroe Masonry do your job. Your only problem might be that he'll be too booked with work when you call.

Except for the LIEN we got from the concrete pump company he used. This was after the fact of paying Edwin. It was unnecessary stress on my elderly family members. I would suggest to make sure he has current insurances and that all his sub contractors are paid before your final payment to him. So maybe get their phone numbers to verify first? What a terrible experience. The work was decent and is a 5 star. But the business ethic of getting his people paid and affect people's title of their property. Not ok! Zero stars for that. I don't want to hurt his business by giving just one star so I will give 3 of 5. UPDATED. REVIEW. Maybe I should lower the stars though because Edwin is saying he doesn't know anything about this which is now a bold face total lie and I'm gonna post photos of our text messages of him saying he's gonna clear it all up. Don't try to deny it because I can prove it if I open it up it will show your name Edwin. You'd be better off saying yeah you screwed up you're a human you're not perfect and just admit to it but now the people will see you're not honest and if you get the photo taken down since it's a real photo and a real text chain, I'm sure I can get it back up You are the contractor who holds the license who signed the project contract, who agreed to make sure everything runs smoothly and you're the one who carries supposedly Insurance for that You should actually be sued for the situation because you cause two elderly people major stress and compromise their title to the property. They did ultimately come out to make the repairs at no charge. Fast forward to now. We had some lights that burnt out needing to be replaced, we wanted the pavers power washed and resealed, and there were a handful of pavers that needed to be reattached... nothing major. My wife wanted to give Manny another chance as they did the original work. She called him and told him what needed to be done. He said text the address and he will let her know when he can come by to look at it. She did and we never heard back. She contacted him again a few days later and asked what happened, got excuses. A day and time were set. The day comes, and I have taken off work. He texts her in the morning saying he's stuck on a job far away and can't make it. The day is rescheduled. The next scheduled day comes, I take off work again, the time comes and goes and no Manny. After waiting 2 hours, my wife texted him. He read the message a few minutes later and never answered back. You be the judge. I am giving the original work 3.5 and everything since 0, so I am being generous with the 2 rating. To Manny's response... I have the off centered fire place and lines not lining up on the walkway... not my imagination. We also still have your insulting messages from 10 years ago. Finally, you have time to read and give a long response to this review from Mexico, but you don't have time for a quick phone call or text saying an emergency came up and you can't make it. I don't think so. You keep saying "we", but this has all been you personally. Not an employee, not Crown Pavers... you. As for problems during the job 10 years ago, also not true. The problems only started when we called you about the repairs which again the contractor was going to pay for.

One thing we could not do…read moreourselves was replace our circa 1917 old cracked 82 feet long driveway and widen our 7' driveway approach (with a steep angle of approach designed for a model-T) to a new 12' wide City standard driveway approach with less than 8 degrees angle of approach. We would need a licensed contractor who could work within the City of Alhambra's public-right-of-way. We started calling for quotes in early April of 2014 and A.F.R. Masonry, Alex Diaz, gave us our second lowest bid out of 6 bids. Alex was the only contractor who said he would honor his bid longer than 60 days. The City of Alhambra would definitely need more than 60 days to complete the relocation of a water meter that was in the way of a new driveway approach. I liked the fact that Alex said he had his own digger (to break and haul concrete) and he was based locally in El Monte. His bid price was a definite draw (one of our highest bids from another general contractor was more than triple the amount of Alex's). So after the water meter was relocated we called Alex and he said he was available to do our job within two weeks and could complete the job in approximately 6 working days. The job is just finishing up today and I just had to write up this review. I have been waiting a long time to be able to drive into my driveway without hitting my tires on the curb face. The new no frills driveway is so much more pleasant to look at then our old cracked and patched driveway. The only thing that other homeowners might have an issue with would be that during the construction, the job-site (my yard) was left with construction materials overnight. But I am definitely fine with dealing with unsightly construction materials overnight during construction for Alex's bid price. It all gets cleaned-up in the end. The work was done on time and on budget! Alex did not complain about having to deal with the large magnolia tree roots adjacent to the driveway approach. He listened to our concerns and made sure they were addressed. The craftsmanship of the concrete work with proper forms, slopes, and finish was definitely on point. I am very happy with the job well done.
