ok well it has been a while since I have been in here. located south ridge mall area north east corner entrance. prices 16 bucks per person for all you can eat late afternoon. as most folks that know me i am a sushi hand role maki person. not a snob but know when i tie in to the good stuff. ask at the sushi counter for chop sticks well on the sushi this place was right on point! LOL! the rice was favored perfect, a true moment for sure. yea by BIG city standards i ate maybe 100 bucks worth. lol 2 good sized plates worth. yea i needed that! on to the hot food. the egg drop soup was real good best in town so far. nice chicken flavor and perfectly seasoned. ok they had steamed won tons. think dim some. flavored with 5 spice. chicken with broccoli was ok i made the mistake on the Mongolian beef. i did not see it was loaded with HOT peppers. way too hot for me to enjoy. they did have a good looking salad area. and ice cream in cups. inside was Divy but ok lots of folks piling in just as we were checking out. kinda small in side not super large. glad we went in mid after noon 4pm ish. i could see this packed at noon or 5 pm prime times.

Feel the dark aura as you enter the parking lot! See those pot holes? Those are for good luck! While the exterior may seem dark and uninviting, the interior will brighten the most gloomy day! Server was maybe 12 (kidding, he looked super young though). Staff was nice, nice selection of food including your standard Asian style chickens, rice, noodles and sushi. I ate 2 pieces of sushi and said no but the hot plates were quite delicious and the desserts are the Bomb! Price is right on point!

So this place is always consistently great for lunch or dinner. Same food with day to day greatness...Always Hot, Always Clean, and Always Ready for Attacking!! This Mainstay is a Southside Attraction soo Always expect a full house as the Word has Clearly been passed Around...Super Good Buffet with Stir Fry Station and Sushi; Making this place a Definate Bang for your Buck. Extremely unassuming exterior hides the colorful dining space Within...Soo ask for some chopsticks on your way in and prepare yourselves for a Solid Choice in Food variety. Things to look for are the Salad/Dessert bar, Whole Baked Salmon, Stuffed Mushrooms, and my favorite being the Sushi Bar with a Side of Stir Fried Octopus...Leave some for Me as We Will be Back. Hidden Gem soo only tell your Close Friends & Family.

The moment we crossed the threshold, we were utterly struck by the breathtaking grandeur of the space. The décor is an absolute triumph monumental, lavish, and deeply impressive. It possesses that rare, magnetic energy that makes it the quintessential destination for a glamorous, exciting date night out. We were seated elegantly, and our waitress provided a masterclass in bespoke service. She was wonderfully attentive, walking us through the evening's offerings with a grace that made us feel instantly warm and welcomed. For my main, I simply couldn't resist the Chicken Biscuits. The dish arrived in a crisp fifteen minutes, showcasing a beautifully prepared, exceptionally fresh chicken breast alongside the most delicate biscuits. Now, it traditionally comes paired with a signature sauce, but my palate simply cannot tolerate anything spicy. When I requested a modification, our lovely waitress handled it with absolute poise and perfection. Between the stunning, palatial surroundings, the flawless hospitality, and the exquisite cuisine, it was an absolutely thrilling evening. Proudfoot & Bird is a magnificent jewel in Des Moines, and I shall most certainly be returning to grace their dining room again very soon!

The place is small inside though is the only issue for larger parties. The eggs and sausage were good the first day and a co-worker got their sourdough french toast and the slices were cut so thick!! He said that it was some of the best he has EVER had. The second day, I got their Biscuits and Gravy and OMG, this is a dish that you have got to get at least once!!! The biscuits are killer, then they add sausage patties, then sausage gravy (so good) and then the topper that blew me away, poached eggs! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and added so much flavor. Top notch place!!!

I suggested here instead, mainly because none of us had been here before. I'm glad I did. We went on a Friday night. There was snow on the ground and several parking spaces available. We walked in from the lot behind the building and immediately realized how cozy this restaurant actually is. There had to be fewer than 20 tables, and a few spaces at the bar. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait. One of the bartenders struck up a conversation with us while we were waiting for our table. We could tell there were a lot of regulars here because the bartenders greeted most of the folks by name. And most of the folks were also greeting other guests by name. When we weren't talking to the bartender we were watching him pour the drinks. They were clearly not stingy with the alcohol here. In fact, all 3 of us decided to order drinks with our food That's something we don't normally do. For our meals, I ordered the 16-oz New York strip and my wife and stepson both ordered ribeyes. We each got a dinner salad and baked potato to go with the steaks. The salads were a classic, minimal dinner salad with lettuce, cheese, croutons, and a small cup of dressing. The thing is, the dressing was more than adequate to cover my salad. While we waited for our steaks we were mesmerized by how efficiently the wait staff worked the room. Tables are fairly close here, and the waitresses were constantly moving back and forth. The service was great. The atmosphere was great. And we kept noticing all the people coming in were greeted by name by the staff and other guests. Soon after finishing our salads, the steaks arrived. They were cooked perfectly. There was even a sprig of parsley on each plate. I haven't seen garnish on a plate like that in decades. I managed to get a photo of my New York strip, but not either of the ribeyes. We all dug in quickly. My wife soon commented on how good the baked potato was. I wondered how good it could be. There were packages of butter on the table and the potatoes came with sour cream. There had been no mandatory list of questions about add-ons to the potatoes. After eating half my steak I decided it was time to find out. This was one of the best baked potatoes I can remember eating. It wasn't over-done or under-done. It was cooked perfectly. Even after 15 or so minutes of sitting on my pate while I ate steak it was still hot. Everything was cooked perfectly. The drinks were good. You could tell all the guests were enjoying themselves. In the end, I was the only one at my table who didn't take home leftovers. Our waitress promptly arrived with to-go boxes. I'm pretty sure all 3 of us are looking forward to going back. And it's a good thing I didn't drive. I was feeling my one little drink on the way home.

This restaurant has a history that 's over 60 years old with a rich history (think traditional…read more"supper club" style which provides fond memories for many). Yet, it has new owners as of this year but I'll bet nothing much has changed since "the good ol' days". As you can see from my outdoor pics, and my pic of the chairs (red vinyl), it's a throwback to yesteryear. Not to say this is bad, just to get an understanding of what you're walking into. At lunchtime on this week day, there was plenty of parking in the rear (and the restaurant was almost full). The tables were a bit close and it was a bit noisy, but everyone was polite and in good spirits. As you can see from my pic, we started lunch with Onion Rings. These are relatively thinly sliced and breaded with batter that ends up being quite crunchy. There was plenty, and then some. We shared a Garbage Salad (see my pic). This truly has a bit of everything in it. It starts off Greek style with deli meats, artichoke hearts, olives and ends with shrimp: all topped on a bed of lettuce and veggies. It's served with Italian dressing, which had usual, traditional flavors. We finished with Jess's Slow Cooked Ribs (see my pic): this is a staple of theirs highlighting their signature BBQ sauce. There was plenty of meat on the ribs, which fell off the bone with the slightest of tugs. The BBQ smoke was earthy and paired well with the sauce. Their sauce was quite sweet, ample and tasted like it was applied after the ribs were cooked
