The purple haze tasted like cough syrup with orange Popsicles. The nutcracker really gets me wasted fast but it is far from delicious. This was my first visit here to New Apollo restaurant. My friend suggested this place because it was good to him. The decor was very simple, nothing really stood out to me. Not a very large location, they only have about six or seven booth seats. One booth area can hold approximately about six people comfortably. The menu was impressive though, they serve Chinese and Spanish food. There are several combination plates which you can order that are reasonable. The prices are very affordable. The food was very good and I also love the fact that they serve large portions. The drink menu is also very appealing, I guess that $10.00 is reasonable price for a drink depending on the fact that I heard they are pretty good. I would definitely come back to New Apollo again because I truly enjoyed myself with the food and my company. read more

I've had my share of Cuban/Asian cuisine spots...some good, some bad. New Apollo in Williamsburg is definitely one of the good. Attended here a few weeks ago and had a portion of arroz y bistec, also a to-go order of chicken chicharones and a different kind of rice they had there...both were good however I liked my first order of Arroz y bistec better. Also they have a good selection of adult beverages...regulars come in a styrofoam cups ($10) and large in the plastic cups ($20)...I had a margarita and also a pina colada that a co-worker of mine who normally does not drink offered for me to finish. As with the food, both were pretty good, the pina colada was stronger however so of course I like that one more :) . Not my first place to set out for food but definitely will make random trips here more so during the summer for drinks and the occasional bite to eat. read more

My boyfriend claimed this place was great and that the iced tea is amazing and fresh. I tried it taste like powdered ice tea. Nothing special. This time he tried the steak onions and sweet fried plantains. The only thing on the plate that was good was the plantains. The steak wasn't great at all. I tried the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, it was supposed to come with an egg roll, but that was missing. This meal was a waste of money. The chicken was gushy on the inside, I wasn't understanding why. Omg, the sweet and sour sauce was more SOUR and disgusting. I went here around my birthday. Everything was OKAY. The food was okay. The atmosphere was okay. With an exception to the Blue Hawaiian, the drinks were HORRIBLE! Oh-My-Wow! I tried 3 different drinks (not sure what they're called) but they sucked. One tasted like medicine. The other tasted like licorice flavored medicine. The last one, I can't remember. The food at this place is not good but the drinks are the bomb. People seem to love that corner fast food American Chinese food such as pork fried rice with for chicken wings, spare rib tips and such yuck, but then again many don't know real authentic chinese food, when you are used to something and not exposed to the best or authentic chinese food, then this becomes you high standard because it is all you know. Meh. Maybe 2.5 stars. To me, it's kinda just exactly what it appears to be. Do not expect anything gourmet. The best you should hope for is that they happen to prepare one or two specific dishes the way you like it. By chance. And this will only be possible if you happen to prefer (whether or not you're aware of it) that specific something prepared the easiest and most cost efficient way. A significant disappointment for me was discovering that these folks are "rounding" on their receipts. So if you go in there, pay cash for something say for less than $10, you will pay tax and the remainder of the balance UP to the nearest dollar. This is absurd to me. Go ahead, have a tip jar (they also have a tip jar) but don't just assume everyone's change. I don't know. They've got a few items I like truth be told, at reasonable prices, so it balances itself. But it could never become a personal fave and it could never elicit that precious delight of truly appreciating a place and it's staff. So go ahead New Apollo; keep chugging along. But you ain't winning any hearts or popularity contests that's for sure. You're a cold, calculating endeavor; you could just as well be selling car tires in the joint. read more

We used to live in Williamsburg, so this spot was one of our favorites for special occasions. Their drinks are even better! Definitely recommend the Blue Hawaiian with an extra shot! Rice was old and dry, Chicken Chunks were dry and salty and looks like they were refried more then twice, that explains why they were so dry. On top of this over priced horrible meal, They serve on Foam Plates which are toxic. How do you put hot fried food in a foam plate, that melts some of the foam away and make your food toxic? They used to serve that dish in an aluminum round plate with a clear plastic top. Now they charge almost $4.00 more for this dish, and serve dried rice with crispy dry salty chicken chunks, they serve it in Foam? Not classy and show how much of a Cheap A*s Business it has become. Staff could be a little snobby and are starting to behave like some of the Ghetto customers that go their. I guess the staff thinks they are gangsters now? I ordered as a take-out order with my job that brought a lot of business to them since many of us ordered. My order was Half Fried Chicken with Fried Rice Combination plate. Originally, I wanted maduros and they said they had none so I opted for an egg roll. As a restaurant that has Spanish cuisine as well, I would have expected they would be well stocked with yellow plantains, but I guess not. The chicken was so dry and hard to chew. The meat was also old and you could smell that it was. The bone from my leg quarter had been chopped off and the chicken wing had a dark spot on it indicating the meat was bruised or poor condition before it was fried. The fried rice had nothing added to it and was just that...fried rice with no onions or bean sprouts like you see in the photos in Yelp. The egg roll was also off and smelled old. I was extremely disappointed and would never order from here again. I feel like my food was served like this because they knew it was a take out order and couldn't return the food. If I was dining in, it wouldn't have been the hot mess it was. I only took a few bites of my food because I had waited so long till it came, but never again. This review has nothing to do with the food. Why? Because I've never ordered anything to eat at New Apolo (one "l", not two like the theatre in Harlem). And that probably won't ever change. Because my go to Chinese spot in East Williamsburg is Family Garden on the corner of Leonard and Metropolitan. This review will serve as a quick hint for those of you who like to test the limits of your liver and save money in the process. By now, it's a not-so-best kept secret that you can walk into New Apolo and order frozen alcoholic drinks. They even have a drink menu you can look at if you're a first time or need help deciding (which is crazy because it's so lengthy it just makes you more indecisive). A regular size drink will cost you $10. A large will cost you $20. However, there's absolutely no reason to ever buy a large drink. Why, you ask? Because you can request extra shots in your drink for a dollar each. For instance, order a pina colada with a double shot. Only $12. You can get a nice buzz (super quickly) for a lot less than you would trying to wrestle a large. And you can be plenty tipsy after two drinks. Anything more than that and you're flirting with a non-stop flight to Drunkville. So drink responsibly You're welcome. read more

I don't know what the big deal is about this place. Okay I guess it's the drinks but having a bun in the oven I had no choice other than to have food only. While the people I were with enjoyed delicious frozen drinks which they told me were strong and yummy, I opted for the crispy pork with onions and pork fried rice. It was just okay. The rice however was really good. I would have just ate a plate of fried rice and would have been happy. We also ordered the chicken wings which were also good! The chicken and broccoli had a funny taste which I think was the sauce. The place was super packed though. I guess it's a cool spot for quick grub and some good frozen drinks.
