I grew up in Hawaii and my base for all foods was two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. You then choose your choice of protein on top of those two and you have a classic Hawaiian local plate lunch (or breakfast or dinner or snack, haha). We had Smashed Avo and Les Fruits Deluxe and they were heavenly, perfectly balanced, and absolutely awesome. I mean, I had fruits on waffles before but Nero Waffles somehow made it so much better than anything similar I had before. Our greeter was very friendly and when she saw that my wife and I were discussing our menu options in Korean, she immediately changed her gear and spoke in Korean to us to give us some recommendations! Our waiter was also very friendly and kept checking in on us for the entire duration of our meal. Cappuccino and Americano were wonderful. I ordered the Banella Brûlée which was amazing!! it had the perfect balance of chocolate, whipped cream, and banana flavors. Located in Yaletown. There weren't too many breakfast or brunch places close to our hotel. Every single place had a line out the door with waiting towns at 45 min to over an hour and half. Upon calling around every place was walk in only as well. On a drizzling day it was ideal to wait, but I am so happy we did. Although, salmon swims through Vancouver I choose the waffle Benedict with the cured ham in rosemary. The ham to my surprise was not the typical large cut but instead thinly sliced like prosciutto. My fiancé is a purist, so even though specialty waffles are what they are known for, they were super nice and accommodating when he asked for just two plain waffles with butter and syrup. Friends recommended this place and raved over the airy and crispy Belgium waffles here. I honestly didn't know what to expect still, but it did sound good. When we arrived, the place was already packed. There was outdoor and indoor seating. Didn't take long for us to put our name on the wait list. We were told it would be an hour wait, however, it was more like a 30 minute wait. We waited at a Starbucks near by for a bit and then walked around and shopped around a little bit until we got a text telling us our table was ready. We needed to be there within 10 minutes as we were told. So best to not wander off too far when waiting. We made it just fine and got a table outside. We got the menus and were served water quickly. It was pretty busy before the waiter was able to get to us for our order. So we had a lot of time to decide what we wanted, maybe a bit too much time even. I got myself a Mimosa and the Brussels Benny with the Smoked Salmon. It was a very fine choice given it as my first time coming here. Everything came out at a reasonable time and I was really impressed after taking that first bite. It was the lightest and airiest Belgium waffle I've ever had. Quite wonderful! And the eggs were free ranged and poached well with that dark orange yolk oozing out beautifully after cutting it through. Very satisfying as usual with any well poached egg. The meal was delicious and not heavy. I was content with the portion size. This was overall a great experience that left me pretty at peace and relaxed. It was night time and pouring and they were not taking any more indoor dining due to no more silverware?, only take out and their kitchen closes at 930pm so we lucked out by getting the last order. We thought they were open later than that. I got the banana nutella waffle and my friend got the raspberry lemon one. They have flavored waffles which is different from the nero waffle combos, just don't get confused. Man did we devour it! The waffle was light and airy but crispy, even with all the stuff on top of it. The banana was slightly crunchy with the caramelized sugar and there are two big heaps of nutella whipped cream on each side. The raspberry lemon was the perfect level of tartness and a handful of crushed pistachios added more texture. We tried not to revisit any one place more than once during our visit so that we can try everything. But I would've liked to come here again and enjoy the waffle sitting down. The staff were super friendly, the place is clean and cozy and we lined up before it opened in the morning, so there wasn't much of a wait to get inside. But, once we tasted the food, we knew we wouldn't be back. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and Egg Benny's are one of my most favourite dishes on a breakfast menu, so I decided to try the Brussels Benny. At first I thought....hmmm...smoked salmon on a waffle?...hmmm...I didn't think that went together, but I was intrigued. Maybe It's something new that I have to try and will like...after all, the chef must know it goes well together, right? No. Smoked salmon on a waffle is like putting sour cream in your coffee instead of cream. Also, the amount of hollandaise was so much that it covered both poached eggs entirely, and after a few bites, all I could taste was hollandaise....nothing else. It was just swimming in it. The Triple C I think was also designed poorly. When you're going to a waffle house, you assume that waffles are their forte, so why not demonstrate that on the dish? Everything that was served undermined the actual waffle, which is what the guests are there for. My point is, even with the Triple C as with the Benny, there was so much other stuff stacked on top, that good old Mr. Waffle couldn't even make its way to your taste buds, and that was a real shame. All you could taste with the Triple C was the ice cream. Accompanying those two disappointing dishes was the Americano that was very bitter and for some reason went cold only after a few minutes.
