I have been coming to Nepal house for several years now and the food never disappoints. The lunch buffet in particular--very reasonable price for an extensive spread that has not wavered in quality in my experience. Perfect for a work lunch, visiting family or other large groups. There are several Nepalese and Indian restaurants in the area, but what sets Nepal House apart is the hospitality of the hosts. I say hosts and not employees, because I always feel as if I'm entering someone's home while dining here due to the warmth and graciousness of the Nepal House community. Delicious food. Personal favs from the lunch buffet: chicken tikka masala, sweet rice, the mustard greens, yogurt sauce, and the naan. My bf was also a big fan of the lamb curry. Buffets often result in overindulgence, so before you dig in at the Nepal house, I recommend scanning the offerings available. I tried a little bit of everything and figured out what I liked, which was tough because there were so many different curries, soups, and vegetables available. My bf focused on the proteins; the tandoori chicken chunks were rather big, and the fish curry was a miss, but everything else was pretty good. The gulab jamun was extremely sweet; the pastry is basically a sponge that soaks up sugar water, so be prepared. The fruit seems relatively fresh, and the chai tea is sugary but quite good. Overall, we got to try a huge variety of food for only $12/person. An awesome dining experience in the Mount Vernon area. read more

Nepal House is pretty average in my opinion. The interior is quite nice. If you're from Nepal and have a high spice tolerance- don't hold any expectations. My mom ordered an "extra spicy" thali set and it turned out to be sweet! We also waited 40 MINUTES for the thali sets to arrive- by the time we finished the momos we waited an extra 10 minutes until the thali sets arrived. I have been coming back for lunch, dinner and sometimes have even catered from here for large events. Make sure to come hungry because you will definitely be full at the end of your meal. Everything on their dinner menu is absolutely delicious. Their lunch menu probably has the best value. Lunch is a set price for a buffet style. From samosas and tandoori chicken, to curry varieties and grilled vegetables, to sweet masala tea and dessert, everything was palatable. How the handle naan is clutch. I'm a huge fan of this place. I'm also Indian. Game. Set. Match. Mt Vernon has many options for Indian food. However, I think this place is the best. The buffet is always well stocked with a paneer dish and gulab jaman, even in weekdays, which is often not the case elsewhere. They've also significantly upgrade the ambiance and space from mughal garden (the previous restaurant) while maintaining the positive qualities of the food. The staff also works hard. We learnt about this place through a Groupon last year and the existing reviews seemed good so we gave the place a try. Also, the menu had authentic Nepali dishes. There are lots of Nepali-India, India-Nepali places in Baltimore but this is an authentic Nepali restaurant. Nepali and Indian food are similar but there are some differences, for instance, the Chinese influence in momos which are gingery and have skins similar to Chinese soup dumplings. When we dined in, we got papadums as starters, you have to request for them for delivery, take-out. The food was fresh and the sauces are home-made. Not the cheapest Nepali/Indian joint in town but the food is fresh, tastes home-made (not from spice pack) and the service is great too! read more

Have been to Nepal House several times for the lunch buffet and am never disappointed. They have an huge selection of Indian and Nepalese foods that varies depending on the day so you can go 5 times and eat probably 20 different dishes. Was in Baltimore for a few hours and decided to give Yelp the opportunity to surprise me with an authentic and hopefully exquisite lunch experience; Himalayan food sounded about right. Even though restaurant wasn't full when I arrived, I didn't take it as a bad sign. There were a few tables still and the place had more people coming in as I was there. I always look at the ambience as part of my experience and this place looked very authentic starting from the employees and their typical attires. There is also beautiful decoration and a section to buy souvenirs right at the entrance. I took advantage of the buffet just to try a little bit of everything. The variety of the food was outstanding and you can feel the smells of Asian and African spices as you get close to the dishes. I personally liked the different preparations for meats some spicy some not that much. Veggies are also presented in different ways allowing one to experiment diferente flavors with a more healthy approach. Don't know when I will be back in Baltimore but if i do, this place is on my list to visit again. Ops! Almost forgot to mention; I spend less than $20 bucks. Win win read more

We stop at this resturant when we are around Baltimore or passing by. This place is clean with Nepali vibes. The owner and staffs are fabulous. Their food is awesome too. I love their buffet but due to covid they are not doing it right now which is sad. I don't have any complaints so far but just a suggestion - "Thakali thali" nowhere feels like Nepali food. Only "greens" was good in the entire plate. Veg Curry and chicken curry we got were with Indian masala and flavor. Was disappointed because the veg curry was made out of frozen mix vegetables with carrots and corns. I love this place because of their food but I am only disappointed with thakali thali that I got. Although expensive, food is always best here but thakali thali is no where near Nepali taste for the amount we pay. We could have gotten an Indian chicken dish instead for paying for thakali thali. The thali is quite a lot of food with 2 curries, greens, daal, papadan, and rice/grains. The momos were true to form, and the chai was mild but still decent. They have a few tables out front on the sidewalk, sequestered from traffic by pretty and peaceful greenery. Their service is impeccable and the staff were so kind! This is some of the best Indian food I've eaten anywhere, and it's even better because some of the dishes are from the Nepal area with flavors I haven't tasted at other Indian restaurants. The Dal Makhani is the best lentil dish I've ever eaten. The Shimp Chili is a unique (for me) Indo-Chinese dish. Everything else is excellent as well. I've been a dedicated weekend Indian/Nepali buffet-goer for many moons now, so when we were on the prowl for some chutneys and curries and realized that we had never been here... this was an obvious choice for lunch. And after my experience here, I think I can safely say that though this was my first here, it will definitely not be the last! Not only was the interior beautiful, the food options were scrumptious, too. I'm not a vegetarian, but I like to eat as veggie as possible, and their lunch spread made this more than easy. I loved that they had masala dosas (I forgot how much I missed dosas... I guess spending all that time in South Bay really did a number on me!), Gobi 65 (!!!), and a ton of other delicious meatless options, ranging from vegetable curries to spiced legumes and those traditional Indian pickles (OK, I admit: I wasn't totally veggie on my trip here -- I did taste that chicken tikka masala... which was way better than the ones I've tried elsewhere). Oh, and maybe the best part of our meal was the carrot pudding (!) -- I couldn't help but get the kheer and sweetened tea, but that carrot dessert was new to us, and as I said: the highlight of the afternoon. The service was also very friendly and brought over a couple pieces of naan to us since they were out while we were getting our plates from the buffet station... and they never hesitated answering our questions about the cuisine and cultures. Very nice! Plus, the price was right (exactly the same as other lunch buffets in the area, like... across the street). Their delicious Nepali buffet has chicken tikka masala, salad, rice pudding, soup, tea (which tastes like cinnamon and milk), saag paneer, vegetable korma, soft and flavorful naan, masala dosa, samosas, etc. So, SO good. There are spicy sauces, but also non spicy ones (which I prefer). If you're in Baltimore, this is a must, and has great ambiance too. I have only done delivery so no idea what place looks like or the service there. Food is standard Indian fare one gets at every restaurant. It is maybe a little less spicy than average. Do get plenty of rice which considering cost surprisingly get very little at some restaurants. Flavor of meat is good and serving size is okay.
